Video Transcript for Review of RockyMounts Bike Locks - Cable Lock - RKY10224

Today we're going to take a quick look at the Cable Locks and Hitch Locks for RockyMounts WestSlope 2-Bike Rack. This is going to allow you to secure your bikes to your bike rack.Basically, this is just a cable lock that you're going to run through your bikes and then bring this large washer portion through. There's a little node, a little knob that sticks off of the platform that you'll slide this onto and then pop the lock on the end, and that will lock your cable in place. There's a matching lock that's going to go on the end of your hitch pin that came with the WestSlope too. So, these are both going to be pretty much the same lock cylinder. We'll have our two keys, they're keyed alike so it doesn't really matter which one we put where.

Both keys will work just fine. And it has a nice thick dust cover to go over the top and keep out any dirt or debris from getting in there and damaging our lock cylinder. The cable is going to be a pretty good length. It measures about 36 inches, so about three feet long. It should be about enough length to get through your bikes since you just the two. You just want to make sure that you go through a secure point on your bike rack.

So, typically the frame is a good place to go through, wrap it around. But always keep in mind that a cable is just a deterrent, it's not a guarantee. So, be careful with where you park your bikes and how long you leave them. The lock cores measure about 1-1/2 inches wide by about 1 inch in depth and then about 2 inches long. This is an upgrade kit for our RockyMounts WestSlope. That bike rack is sold separately.

That part number is RKY10222 and that is available right here at etrailer.com.And that's going to do it for our look at the Cable Locks and Hitch Locks for RockyMounts WestSlope 2-Bike Rack.

The cable is thick. The lock, however, can be a little difficult to lock sometimes. I requires pushing it in and out on the lock post a few times to get it to latch. Not a big deal, but it's not 100% fool-proof. As with all braided steel cables, these CAN be cut with a bolt cutter, so don't rely on the lock for high-theft-potential situations.

Review is for the Westside slope 3 bike rack. So far, I really like the rack. Have only used a few times and nothing long distance but seems to be well built. Easy to put together. I like the staggering height design to avoid handle bar interference. I have a cannondale lefty fork with three inch tires and fits well. Although, three inch tires is about the limit for the little ratcheting strap that hold the back tire down (but could easily substitute a small bungee cord). My son’s 20” bike fits well too. I searched around for a lot of different racks at different places and the Rocky Mounts Westside slope seemed to be the best bang for your buck. I also got the lock kit. etrailer.com was also by far the least expensive and shipping was great.

Works great. Length is adequate for both bikes and the lock mechanism has stayed clean and easy functioning. Would recommend for use with the bike rack it is intended for 100 percent.

Works great with the Rocky Mounts WestSlope 2 rack. The locks snap on easily to the pins. One is for the hitch pin and the other snaps onto the bolt on the part of the rack that pivots, locking the circular part of the cable onto the rack.

Ask the Experts about this RockyMounts Bike Locks

  • RockyMounts Monorail 3 vs the Westslope 3 Bike Racks
For your needs the Westslope part # RKY10223 would be the better option since it's a bit lighter weight which makes loading and unloading much easier. These racks do not slide out of the hitch tube as easily as you'd think. If you pulled the pin they would not come crashing out if you were on an incline. You'd need to slightly lift the rear of the hitch to release the tension of it's shank and the hitch opening so that the rack could slide out. The # RKY10224 is long enough for the...

  • Bike And Hitch Locks for RockyMounts RKY10223 WestSlope 3-Bike Rack
The cable and hitch lock that's compatible with the RockyMounts # RKY10223 WestSlope bike rack are available separately as part # RKY10224. The WestSlope bike rack is one of my favorite designs, primarily because the U-shaped rack allows you to step in closer to the rear of the vehicle which makes in easy to load the bikes that are closest to the vehicle. I've linked to description videos for both the bike rack and the lock kit I recommended.

  • Will RockyMounts WestSlope Fit on a 2014 Ford Escape and Allow Cargo Door to Open
The RockyMounts WestSlope 2 Bike Rack # RKY10222 will fit your 2014 Ford Escape and you should have no problems opening the cargo door. I say should because we haven't physically tested this ourselves, but if you check out the product page you can see that we have test fit this on a wide variety of vehicles with hatches and there hasn't been a problem. If you'd like to add locks to this bike rack then you need the kit # RKY10224. If you don't already have a trailer hitch then I recommend...

  • Recommended Light Weight 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4 Hitch on 2019 Toyota C-HR
I have the perfect solution for you in the Saris SuperClamp EX 2 # SA4025F, which will fit in the 1-1/4" hitch receiver in your 2019 Toyota C-HR. This rack weighs in at 35-lbs, so it's one of the lightest racks on the market, and it will tilt away from your rear cargo area, as well as fold up when it's not in use. This rack comes with a hitch lock and locks for the bikes, so everything will always be secure. This is also a wheel mounting rack, so you won't have to worry about using a frame...

  • Recommended Tillt-Away 2-Bike Platform Style Bike Rack for Toyota RAV4
Assuming your bikes don't have fenders and weigh 40 lbs apiece or less, I'd recommend the RockyMounts WestSlope, part # RKY10222. This rack weighs about 35 lbs, so it's not very heavy and is very easy to use. The rack will tilt rearward with the bikes in place and as shown in the linked video when we test fit it on a 2019 Toyota RAV4, there was plenty of clearance for the rear hatch to open. One of the unique features of this rack is the U-shaped frame. This allows you to stand in really...

  • Will the RockyMounts WestSlope Fit in a Class I Hitch on a 2018 Mazda 6
Yes. The RockyMounts WestSlope # RKY10222 is compatible with a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver like the Draw-Tite # 24908 you've got on your 2018 Mazda 6. Since the WestSlope doesn't come with any locks included you may consider adding them with the Cable Lock and Hitch Lock for RockyMounts WestSlope Bike Racks # RKY10224 to provide some added security.

  • Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack for 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
Yes. The etrailer # e98906 will be plenty strong to allow you to carry a bike rack and bikes with a weight of up to 350-lbs total on your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. This hitch has a 2" receiver that will allow you to carry a wide variety of hitch mounted accessories, in addition to a bike rack. If you're looking for a 3 bike rack to use on your new hitch, I recommend using the RockyMounts Westslope # RKY10223 because the platform makes it easy to get bikes on and off, plus this rack tilts...

I am happy to alleviate any clearance concerns about the RockyMounts Westslope 2 bike rack part # RKY10222 on a 2014 Subaru Forester with the Curt Hitch part # C13144. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13144 installed on a 2014 Subaru Forester measures 3-1/2" from the hitch pin hole to outermost part of the bumper. The shank of the bike rack measures 5" from the shank hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded up so you will have about 1-1/2" of clearance from the...

Although the spines for the (discontinued) Yakima StickUp 8002420 and the Yakima HoldUp part # Y02443, or # Y02443-2 look similar, the brackets that the wheel holder trays connect to are different enough that you'll need to change to a HoldUp or similar wheel-mount bike rack to avoid frame contact on your bike(s). Yes, the RockyMounts West Slope 3 # RKY10223 is a great fit for your 2019 Honda Odyssey. The West Slope 3 does have the tilting feature, so it will fold up when not in use but also will tilt away so you can access your rear hatch. I suggest getting a lock for the rack and for the bikes you plan on hauling. There is one made specifically for the WestSlope # RKY10224. While you can carry a trio of bikes on your 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf convertible, there is no way to use a trunk-mounted bike rack on the vehicle, so to carry three bikes you will need to add a trailer hitch receiver and 3-bike rack. For the hitch receiver, there are two options from EcoHitch, with the only difference being the receiver size; one with a 1-1/4" receiver # 306-X7310, or my recommended option, the 2" receiver EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7309.
