  • There is no specific 'best' rise or length of ball mount for a given vehicle. Since the hitch and coupler height of every vehicle and every trailer is different, you'll need to take some measurements. To determine the rise/drop of ball mount needed, you'd want to measure the distance from the inside top of the hitch receiver tube to the ground. Then with the trailer level, measure the distance from the underside of the trailer coupler to the ground. The difference between the...

  • For a 2 inch ball to use in the ball mount part # 36053 you would want the part # 19258. For a 1-7/8 inch ball you would want the part # 19254. Both of these balls have shank diameters of 3/4 inches. Length of the threaded portion of the shank isn't super important but the two I mentioned are confirmed fits and both have different lengths.

  • When we installed the hitch part # 75579 on a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan we found that the hitch height from the ground to the top of the hitch opening was 12-3/4 inches. To allow a trailer with a 17 inch coupler height to be towed level you would need 5-1/4 inches of rise. So instead for a ball mount you would want the part # 4282. Then for hitch balls part # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

  • The only way to convert your hitch to a standard receiver would be to have one welded on. But the much safer option is to install a different hitch. I recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 36296 for the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan because with it the receiver will be the only part visible and the receiver is tight against the bumper from better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing an example installation of this hitch for you.
