Yakima OnRamp E-Bike Platform Rack with Ramp Review - 2016 Ford Explorer

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we are checking out the Yakima OnRamp. I'm gonna be putting it on our 2016 Ford Explorer. The OnRamp's gonna be a platform style bike rack that holds the bike by the frame here, but it's specifically built for the heavier bikes, so it can handle a 66 pound bike per tray, and that's gonna be e-bike focused. So you can see it handles it just fine because there's gonna be more vibration, more weight here, on the bike rack, so it's specially built for that. It even comes with a ramp to help you load up the e-bike, 'cause those can get kind of heavy too.

That's going to serve as an anti squeeze trap to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth and possibly damaging the bikes in front of it. Let's go and take that off and set that aside. With the bike in this position, I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick measurement.

I want to hold onto the bike rack for this. You pull out, like so, and let the bike rack tilt forward, and we have full access to our rear hatch, without having to remove the bikes. To put it back into the originally position, you simply just lift up on the rack, until you hear that click, and it's locked into place.

Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. All right with that done, I'm going to go ahead and give you some measurements now. With the bike rack in this position we've added about 23 inches to the rear of the vehicle.

Today on the 2016 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test-fitting the Kuat Transfer 3-bike platform rack, part number TS03G. Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Ford Explorer

Today on this 2016 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test fitting the Thule T2 Pro 2 bike rack, part #TH9034. As you can see we already have a bike installed on the rack and first I'd like to show you it's most important feature which is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with the bikes still attached. You go up to the front here which has this pull handle, you pull in holding onto the bike rack, let it come forward and you have complete access to your rear hatch. Now to put it back in its original position, you just grab the handle again, lift up until you hear that click and it's locked back into place. Now what's nice about this is the fact that the handle's on the outside here where a lot of other bike racks will have handles more toward the inside, it'd be a little bit harder to get to. Okay, now how the bike is actually attached to the rack, we're going to have 2 points of contact and absolutely no frame contact at all with your back. We'll have a wheel hook up at the front here and wheel strap at the back.

Let's go ahead and take the bike off, set it aside.

Softride Element-Parallelogram Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Ford Explorer

Today on this 2016 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test fitting the Softride element parallelogram tilting bike rack, part number SR26248. Now, as you can see, we already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and show off some of the features. The most important feature about this is that it actually tilts away from the bike rack with the bikes installed, which is pretty unique since this is a hanging bike rack and not a platform. To do that, there's this handle here on the passenger side, right here. Pull that out and it actually tilts away from the vehicle like so, and you can do this with all 4 bikes on it. We have access to our rear hatch, with more than enough room on either side to get what you need.
