Colin: Hey, what's going on guys. It's Colin here at "etrailer". And today we have a 2013 Ford Escape. We've been, test-fitting some Hitch Mounted accessories on it. And right now we have the Thule Hitching Post Pro loaded up. Now let's go through some of the features available to show you kind of how it interacts with your vehicle.



Rhino Rack MountainTrail Roof Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on this 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the rhino racks mountain trail roof top bike carrier. Part number RBC035. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. How the bike is attached to the rack, there's going to be 2 points of contact with no frame contact at all. We're going to have a wheel strap here in the back and towards the front it's going to grip it by the fork mounts of your wheel. This is lockable for additional security as well as this is lockable at the top here so it will secure your bike rack as well as your bike to the roof rack.



Saris Bones Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're doing a test fit of the Saris Bones trunk mount 3-bike rack. That part number is S8801. Now, we already have our bike secured down. We're first going to show you how we do that then we'll go over some features of the rack itself. We have three straps altogether holding our bike into place, two on our frame here and one as our anti-sway strap. We're going to start by releasing our two frame straps first.

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're doing a test fit of the Yakima half back 3 trunk mount bike rack. That part number is Y02635. Now we already have our bike secured in place. We're first going to show you how we do that. We have 2 cradles with 3 straps or zip strips as Yakima calls them. We're going to have the two on the top here and one as our anti-sway in the back. We can remove our bike and set it off to the side. With the bike removed, I always suggest that you replace your zip strips so you don't lose or damage them. Now we can take a few measurements.

We can remove our bike, set it off to the side, and then, with our bike out of the way, I always suggest that you replace your zip strips so you don't lose or damage them. With those re-attached, we'll start off with some measurements here. First is going to be overall what we're adding to our vehicle with our arms hanging out.



Yakima FullTilt Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima FullTilt 4 Bike Rack for 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitches, part number Y02462. To begin our test fit, we'll insert the shank of our rack into the hitch of our vehicle. It helps if you keep your finger on the anti-rattle device. You'll then push it in until the pin clicks into place, and you can tell from the green indicator marker here. Now, we'll go ahead and tighten up the anti-rattle device. This helps to take any play out of the shank of the rack.



Saris Thelma Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Saris Thelma 3-bike platform-style rack for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number SA4239B. To begin our test fit we'll insert the shank of our rack into the hitch of our vehicle. Once that's inserted you'll want to watch for the pinholes to line up. With your pinholes in line we'll go ahead and and take the included threaded anti-rattle hitch bolt and thread that into place. Once we have that hand tight we'll go ahead and take our wrench and tighten down the rest of the way. Doing this helps to remove any extra added movement in the shank.



Saris Freedom SuperClamp Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we are going to be test fitting the Saris Freedom Super Clamp Two Bike platform style rack part number SA4025. We'll begin our test fit by inserting the shank of our rack into our receiver hitch on our vehicle. You want to watch for the pin holes to line up. Once that is in line you can go ahead and take the threaded anti rattle hitch bolt and thread that into place. Once you have that hand tight, you can go ahead and take your wrench and finish it off the rest of the way. Once that is tighten down, you can go ahead and snap your lock onto the other side. We'll go ahead and we'll get a few measurements here.



Saris Axis Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Saris Axis. This is a tilting and folding 2-bike rack designed for us in both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. Part number is SA832. Now to begin the test fit we'll slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. As we do this we're going to line up the threaded hole with the hitch pinhole. With those in line we'll take our anti-rattle bolt, we're going to thread this in from the left to the right. We can then tighten it down with our wrench.



Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

This is a folding platform-style 4-bike rack designed for use in 2" hitches. Its part number is SA4414B. Now to begin our test fit we're going to slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. As we do this we're going to want to line the hole in the rack up with the hitch pinhole. Is the bolt too far With our holes in line we're going to take our anti-rattle bolt and we'll thread it in from the left to the right, and then tighten that down using our wrench. We'll now secure it on the other side here using our provided clip. The rack is going to offer us about 11" worth of ground clearance here at the lower portion of the shank.



Yakima FrontLoader Roof Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Frontloader roof mountain bike rack part number Y02103. I want to have and situated a ladder here, I'm only 5'2 so if you're shorter you might want to have handy as well. That way I can easily handle the side down. Go ahead and start by placing the rack on top of our vehicle. Put this one on kind of clamps. This clamping style clamps together like this so for me it helps to actually make sure the back one is in the right position first.



Swagman Upright Roof Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting this Swagman Upright roof-mounted bike rack, part number S64720. I went ahead and situated a ladder here next to the vehicle. I'm only five two, so I'm pretty short and I need the extra height. We'll start by placing the rack on top of our vehicle over top of our bars. With this particular rack they include for the front mounting point two U-bolts with four wing nuts. So we'll go ahead and take the wing nuts off of one of the U-bolts, thread it underneath of our rack and through the holes. I'll go ahead and get that started.



Saris Porter 4 Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're going to be test fitting the Saris Bike Porter. This is a folding and tilting forward bike rack designed for use in both 1-1/2 and 2-inch hitches. Part number SA404B. To begin our test fit, we're going to slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. As we do this, we want to align the threaded hole up with our hitch-pin hole. With those lined up, we'll take our anti-rattle bolt. We're going to slide that in; we'll thread it in from the left to the right, and we can then tighten it down with a wrench. We'll then secure it here on the other side with the provided clip.



Thule Sprint Roof Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're going to be test fitting the Thule Sprint roof mounted bike rack, part number TH528. We'll begin our test fit by placing the rack on top of our vehicle. We'll go ahead and adjust this forward by sliding it. That way it'll lay on top of the crossbar. We're going to be test fitting this today on the factory roof rack system on our Escape. I'll go ahead and grab a step, that way I have a little bit more room, reach. What we're going to do, once you have it in the right position, is take the T 00:00:43, get it into its correct place on the front there.



Softride Element Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Softride Element Parallelogram. This is a folding and tilting 4-bike rack designed for use in 2" hitches. Its part number is SR26248. To begin our test fit we're going to slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. On the passenger side we've got two threaded holes. We've got one here and one that's already inside the hitch tube there.

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, were going to be test fitting the Saris Axis. This is a folding and tilting 3 bike rack designed for use 1 and 2 inch hitches. Its part number SA843B. Now to begin the test fit well slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. We need to line our threaded hole up with our hitch pin hole. We can then take our anti-rattle bolt.



Kuat NV Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat NV aluminum 2-bike carrier, part number N101. To begin our test fit, we'll take the shank of the bike carrier and slide it into the receiver tube of our hitch. We'll line up the hitch pin hole and then we can put in our pin and clip. Once we have our pin and clip in, we'll move to the back of the bike carrier and tighten the black knob. This engages the anti-rattle device. Now we'll go ahead and go over some clearance measurements.



Yakima StickUp 2 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape well be test fitting the Yakima Stickup two bike carrier, part number Y02420. To begin our test fit well slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch, line up the hitch pin holes, thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and tighten with a wrench. With our bike carrier secure to the vehicle well go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements to see how the bike carrier and this vehicle will fit together. Theres about 12 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the vehicle to the closest part of the carrier is about two and a half inches from the vehicle at the rear bumper. With the platform folded up weve added about 15 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.



Yakima QuickBack 2 Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape well be test fitting the Yakima Quickback II trunk mounted carrier, part number Y02621. To begin our test fit well set the carrier onto the vehicle just below the license plate. Well put the top hook to the top part of the cargo door, the side hooks to the side part of the cargo door just below the taillights and the bottom hooks to the bottom part of the cargo door. You may have to open your cargo door to get the bottom hooks in. Well then tighten down the straps to secure the carrier to the vehicle. We can then secure the excess slack with the included tie down points.



Yakima ForkLift Roof Mounted Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Yakima Forklift Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number y02098. Now to begin our test fit well place the bike carrier on top of our crossbars, making sure that the head of the bike rack is over our front crossbar. Well take our rear mounting point, make sure that the plastic clamp goes underneath the rear crossbar, bring it around, put the T-bolt through the clamp, and secure it with the wing nut. With that, well move back to the head of the bike rack where well put the clamp underneath the crossbar, bring it up and using the T-bolt well secure the front clamp to the front crossbar. After making sure everythings tight well slide the plastic cover forward and run our skewer through. Well then attach the screw on the other side of the skewer in preparation for loading our bike.



Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Yakima Doubledown Ace Four Bike Carrier for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number y02451. Now to begin our test fit, weve already gone ahead and installed the two inch adapter included with the bike rack, so well slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install the attached hitch pin. We can then move to the back of the shank and tighten down the knob securing the anti-rattle device as well as the bike rack to the vehicle. Well now go ahead and give you a few measurements, our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 11-1/4 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle is four and a quarter inches. Well now pull the pin here at the back of the mask which will allow us to tilt the mask down and open the cargo door. As you can see with this bike rack secured to the vehicle we can still gain access to our cargo area.



Thule Vertex 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Thule Vertex Four Bike Carrier, part number th9029. Now to begin our test fit using the included adapter for the two inch hitch, well slide the shank of the bike rack into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With the bolt tight our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. Well now go ahead and give you a few measurements; our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 12 inches and from the closet point of the bike rack here at the mask to the back of the vehicle measures three inches. Well now pull the hitch switch at the bottom of the mask and tilt the mask down out of the way where we can open our cargo door. As you can see with this bike rack secured to the vehicle we can still gain access to the cargo area.



Thule Hitching Post Pro Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Thule Hitching Post Pro Folding and Tilting 4 Bike Carrier with Anti-Sway Cradles, part number TH934XTR. Now to being our test fit, using the included two inch adapter for the two inch hitch, well slide the shank of the bike rack into the hitch, line up the hitch pinhole and install and tighten down the anti-rattle bolt. With the bolt tight our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. Well not go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 11 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle measures 6 and a half inches. Well now pull the pin and lanyard from the base of the mast where we can then tilt the mast down and open our cargo door. As you can see with this bike rack secured to the vehicle, you can still gain access to the cargo area.
