Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford F-150

Today on this 2012 Ford F-150, we're going to be test-fitting the Darby Extend-a-Truck hitch mounted load extender, part number DTA944. We already have it installed on our truck and we have it in the first position. This is going to be in the raised position. Now this can be adjusted for various heights to match up with either your camper shell or your roof rack on your truck, and you can use this to help tie down lumber loads, PVC pipe, or as in this case, roof accessories such as kayak carriers. To tie those down there's going to be two loops up at the top on either side and you can use a wide variety of straps to do so. With it in this position, I'm going to go ahead and give you some measurements now.

MaxxTow Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford F-150

Today on our 2012 Ford F150 we've got the MaxxTow 21" x 48" Aluminum Cargo Carrier and we're test fitting it. Now, this cargo carrier is designed to carry up to 500lb and it's also for use with inches hitches. Part number on it is MT70422. This is a very light weight, easy to handle cargo carrier that's one of my favorite things about it. Mainly aluminum construction and the main steel shank running through middle here give us that great capacity. We've got an aluminum sladed for floors, so you can imagine that's going to allow for a lot of dirt and debris and stuff like that to fall down and out. If you plan on transporting really small items maybe not the best plan. As far as the raised edge around the outside it's going to be about two inches high, so that's going to give us plenty of room for stability.

Stromberg Carlson Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford F-150

Today on our 2012 Ford F-150 we've got out the Stromberg Carlson 23x60 cargo carrier, we're going to test fit it. This carrier is designed to carry up to 500 pounds, and it's going to work great with two inch hitches. Part number on it is CC-100. One of the biggest standout features I think about the carrier is the size of the expanded steel floor. That's larger than what we typically see, so even if we've got larger, chunky mud and stuff it should fall down in through there without building up on top of our carrier. We've also got a small raised edge around the outside, you can see that's about two and three quarters of an inch high, offers this stability and also a lot of nice connection points all the way around so we can get our gear secured once we've got it loaded up. Now all told, got about six and a quarter inches of total thickness, so as we put that up against the wall in our garage if you can imagine, it's not going to take up a lot of room.

Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford F-150

Today, on our 2012 Ford F-150, we are testing the Curt 20x60 folding cargo carrier. This cargo carrier has been designed for use in two inch hitches. It offers a five hundred pound weight capacity. The part number on it is C18151. Now our carrier, as you can see, has a nice raised rail all the way around the outside. I really like that it gives a lot of load support.

Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford F-150

Today on our 2012 Ford F150 we've got out the Curt 20 X 60 cargo carrier and we're testing it. This carrier has been designed for use in 2" hitches and it has a capacity of 500 lbs. Part number on it is C18150. I really like the rail on this carrier. It's a nice high profile, it's going to give us good front to back and side to side stability for our gear. You can see there it measures about 5.5 inches high. The expanded steel that we've got on the floor here, it's going to be along the smaller side so it's going to give up great support for smaller diameter items or something we might be putting on there, but still plenty of room for the dirt and debris to wash down and out.
