The X-Treme Gate truck bed extender lets you quickly and easily expand the capacity of your full-size truck bed by up to 10 sq ft. The bed extender slides out and sets up in seconds, and it folds up and stores on your tailgate when not in use. The tough, flexible blend of ABS and polycarbonate stands up to the elements and helps to corral your cargo during transport. And the extender hinges are reinforced with 1/4" diameter stainless steel rods to ensure durability.

Slide-Out Design

xtreme gate tailgate gif

The X-Treme Gate is constructed of 3 honeycomb panels that slide out from a housing cover that is bolted to the tailgate. To set it up, slide the extender out of the housing, fold out the sides, fold it over, and connect the side walls to posts mounted in your truck bed. Spring-loaded latches securely hold the side walls in place.

Permanent Installation to Tailgate

To install, place the extender on the tailgate and secure the housing cover over it using the included hardware.

xtreme gate tailgate lowered

You will also need to install posts on the inside wall of your truck bed. These short posts install above or below the posts that your tailgate latches onto. The side walls of the extender will attach to these posts with spring-loaded latches.

The extender is now a permanent part of your truck. The low-profile housing cover only sticks out 2" into your truck bed so it will not affect your truck's cargo-carrying capacity when the extender is not in use. The extender stores in the housing without changing the look or function of the tailgate, and the housing is tapered at the bottom so that your tailgate will close without interference. It also mounts low enough on the tailgate that it will not interfere with your tonneau cover.

Video Transcript for X-Treme Gate Truck Bed Extender Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the X-Treme Gate Tailgate Bed Extender part number XG-001. The X-Treme Gate Tailgate Bed Extender adds up to 10 extra square feet of truck bed space. It deploys and stows in just seconds. It mounts to your truck's tailgate so it's always with you when you need it. The bolt-in design prevents theft. It's fully compatible with tonneau covers and with drop-in and spray-in bedliners.

It's constructed of an ABS high-strength polycarbonate. It fits all full-sized pickups, 2009 and newer, and any full-sized pickup with a tail gate opening of at least 58 and 3/8 of an inch. Now let's turn things over to our buddy Shane to show you how to get it installed.Shane: We're going to go ahead and open up this hard tonneau cover, as well as the tailgate here on our vehicle. Next we're going to go ahead and place the bottom half here of our tailgate extender. Just slides down into position like this so that you want also the sides to lift up.

Next we'll take the cover that goes over that portion of it, you notice how there's a tapered edge here. This side goes toward the cab of the pickup. It'll set over the top just like that. Now with our two pieces in place, we'll need to go ahead and center it up on the tailgate itself so we want equal distance. Now that we have our tailgate extender centered on our tailgate, we're going to go ahead and take a little bit of tape, just put it here on each side so that if we move it, we know where to center it back up to. Next we're going to need to hold it in place, gently pull outward on the piece that's underneath, so this piece here slides out and then it lifts up like this.

Lift it an upright position, let me just sling out our arms here. Now this front edge right here, we want to line up with the edge of our arm. You can see we're a little bit past it, we're like that on both sides, so we'll take the whole piece and slide it back gently on the tailgate so that we line up even with the edge here. Now that I have the X-Treme Gate in the proper position, go ahead and put a couple more pieces of tape here just for reference marks here just in front of it on the tailgate to make sure that if we move it we can put it back in the same position. Next we're going to need to attach these 2 and a half inch self-tapping screws to the 3 holes here on each side and for the 3 holes that go across the middle here, we'll be using a 2 inch self-tapping screw. Now for the side holes, you want to make sure that you put them in the order as listed per the directions, so we'll be starting with the middle hole on each side.

Go ahead a move over to the middle on the other side. Next we'll move back up here to the forward mounting location here on the driver's side and we go to the rear mounting location on the passenger side. Next we'll move back up here to the forward mounting location. The rear mounting location here on the driver's side. Now if you do not have either a plastic bed liner or a spray on style bed liner like this truck has, after you drill these end holes, you'll want to remove the 6 bolts and install these rubber strips underneath the end blocks underneath this piece here that'll keep this piece from rubbing and possibly damaging the paint on the tailgate. Now that we have the 6 outer screws installed, the 3 on each side, we'll go ahead and fold in the 2 arms, lay it down, we're going to go ahead and slide this back into position. We're then going to need to install the 2-inch self-tapping screws. Now with our bed extender secure, we can go ahead and pull off our pieces of tape that we had marking it. Next we're going to go ahead and take a piece of masking tape inaudible 00:04:59 put here on our bed. Going to need to measure up from the floor of the bed up to our masking tape. Going to measure up 15-inches. Go ahead and put a mark here on our masking tape. Nect we're going to fold the bed extender in a position like this. Going to go ahead and place a piece of wood underneath them so that we don't damage it when we drill out our extra hole. We're then going to need to measure 2-inches from the back, as well as 2-inches down. inaudible 00:05:49 we're going to be in that area first. Just going to put a piece of tape on it so that we can put our mark. Then we're going to be right about there. Right there will be the center of the 3/4-inch hole that we'll need to drill. Now we'll go ahead and take our 3/4-inch bit, we'll drill the holes out. Next we're going to go ahead and take the part of the spring retaining clip, we're going to use it as a template, so we'll line up this curved edge here with the edge of our hole. Again, we've got our piece of scrap wood underneath it so we don't damage anything. Go ahead and get everything lined up how we want it. Just going to take a small little 1/8-inch drill bit to mark our locations. Keep in mind that anything we do to this side here, we'll need to repeat that same process over here on this side. Once we have our 4 holes marked we can go ahead and step up to our 1/4-inch drill bit. Next we're going to go ahead and take the bracket here that'll be bolted to the upright of the bed. We're going to go ahead and stick it through the hole here and line it up with the 2 rear holes that we just drilled, it'll line up with these 2. We'll then bring the arm back up against the bed so that it lines up, then take our drill. We'll go ahead and mark the 2 rear holes. Next we're going to go ahead and use the 4 little black self-tapping screws that come with the kit. We'll need 4 of them to attach this bracket here to the upright of the truck bed. Go ahead and remove this tape as well, we won't need that anymore. Next we're going to need to put the spring-loaded clip together. Here's the 2 pieces as well as it comes with 2 springs. To do that, we'll go ahead and put the piece in there like this. Go ahead and drop the springs into position, so they'll look like that. Now we'll take out assembled piece, go ahead and lay it down here over the opening then take the little flat-head, Phillips head screws, thread them in here from the back side. Now to go ahead and latch it onto our host here that's secure, go ahead and pull the piece back. The spring-loaded piece here locks it in place so that it can't come off. That'll do it for the installation portion, now let's show you how easy it folds up and goes back into it's stored position. Go ahead and pull here on the spring-loaded tab, slide the arm in. Come over to the other side and repeat the same process. Fold it down. Slide it into position, and you're ready to hit the road. Thanks Shane. That will complete our look at the X-treme Gate Tailgate Bed Extender, part number XG-001.

  • Dimensions of UWS Crossover Toolbox for 2019 Ford F-350
  • The UWS Deep Truck Bed Toolbox - Crossover Style - Low Profile Series - 10.8 cu ft - Gloss Black # UWS00376 measures just 17 inches deep at the bottom and 20 inches deep at the lid. I've attached the manufacturer dimensions in a photo to assist. I did a little research on the Ford Superduty box length and it is 98 inches, so if you subtract the 17 inch box depth, you will have 81 inches (or 78 inches from the top of the box). If your Kawasaki Brute Force 750 is longer than that,...

If you measure from the center of the tailgate post rearward 25-3/4 inches you can see how much room you will have for the ramp legs. I have attached a photo of the extender showing...

  • Strength and Heat Resistance of X-Treme Gate Truck Bed Extender XG-001
  • The strength of X-Treme Gate extender # XG-001, in terms of carrying the partial weight of the drywall and lumber, is more than enough to handle that weight. I spoke with the owner of the company though and he did say that it was not designed to have things resting on top of it. Another issue is that the material is so strong it will exceed the capacity of the cables that hold up the tailgate. As far as high temperatures ABS plastic is used on most all vehicles because of its impact resistance,...

  • One does normally need to be careful and in that regard the X-Treme Gate Truck Bed Extender # XG-001 that fits your 2016 Ford F-150 uses rubber gaskets at a number of locations during installation and the extender itself is made out of a patented blend of thermoplastics; there is not going to be a worry about corrosion with this particular extender.

  • Based on my review of photos of the UnderCover SwingCase tool boxes they will not be compatible with the X-Treme Gate Truck Bed Extender # XG-001. The extender when it is stowed takes up only 2-inches of space from the inside of the tailgate but the side brackets appear to use the same mounting points as the swing/hinge mechanism on the SwingCase boxes. Generally a manufacturer will not recommend installing two accessories that overlap at their installation points. A better option...

If you intend to be removing the truck bed extender after use then you will want to use the Fold Down Truck Bed Extender as this can be easily removed whereas the X-Treme Gate Truck Bed Extender has a permanent mount.
