CTEK MULTI US 0.8 bulk charging time chart

This CTEK charger comes with two battery cables: one with clamp terminals and one with eyelet terminals. The 16-inch-long eyelet-terminal cable can be left attached to the battery, and the clamp-terminal cable is great for temporary connections.

CTEK MULTI US 0.8 Charging Process

A goof-proof design distinguishes CTEK's new-generation chargers from the competition - you don't have to be a mechanical guru to keep your battery working at top efficiency. CTEK's patented charging system monitors your battery, providing exactly the charge it needs during each unique charging stage. Safe, 6-step process uses switch-mode, pulse-maintenance technology.

CTEK MULTI US 0.8 charging process chart

  1. Desulfation stage is the initial charging phase. This stage uses electronic pulses to desulfate batteries by converting lead sulfate crystals back to usable sulfuric acid.
  2. Bulk stage is the main charging phase. This stage accounts for 80 percent of the charging process and uses a constant charge level.
  3. Absorption stage completes the charge (to virtually 100 percent) using diminishing current to prevent battery damage.
  4. Analysis stage kicks in if the pre-set maximum time needed for absorption is exceeded. The unit measures the battery voltage and stops the charging process, automatically triggering an error indicator if the battery is faulty.
  5. Float-maintenance stage maintains a constant voltage of 13.6V during the first 10 days.
  6. Pulse-maintenance stage begins 10 days after the battery is fully charged. During this stage, the charger maintains the battery at the optimum charge level of 95 percent to 100 percent. It recognizes any drop in voltage and sends a corresponding pulse of current to keep the battery properly charged. Pulse maintenance can be continued for months at a time.

Protects the User

Your personal safety is paramount, and CTEK's spark-free, short-circuit-proof design incorporates a feature that prevents reverse polarity, keeping you safe. You simply cannot make a polarity mistake: The charger will not operate if it is attached incorrectly. In addition, the red alarm light on the charger alerts you if there is a reverse-polarity problem.

Protects the Battery

CTEK's patented switch-mode, pulse-maintenance charging system is designed with the most up-to-date technology to safely charge your battery. Using carefully monitored, low-grid voltage, CTEK's patented process differs from competitors' chargers by providing the precise final voltage that your battery needs to maintain the optimum charge level. This sophisticated, interactive device will never overcharge or undercharge your battery. You can leave it attached to the battery for months, making it perfect for seasonal vehicle storage.

Won't Cause Overcharging or Overheating

Overcharging can cause gassing, which can lead to acid concentration and corrosion of the battery's lead plates. It can also cause the battery cells to dry out ("boil dry"), which can allow the battery to overheat and cause a fire.

Won't Cause Undercharging or Sulfation

Undercharging can be just as damaging to your battery as overcharging because chronic undercharging leads to sulfation. Sulfation occurs when the lead and lead dioxide of the battery's plates react with sulfuric battery acid to produce lead sulfate. This in turn is converted back to lead, lead oxide and sulfuric acid. A small, unavoidable amount of sulfation and gassing naturally takes place as a result of the chemical processes occurring in lead-acid batteries. However, extensive undercharging causes extra lead sulfate to accumulate on the lead plates of the battery. Because the crystalline form of the sulfate cannot hold an electrical charge, excessive sulfation greatly diminishes the charging ability of the battery, eventually rendering it unusable.

Provides Desulfation Using a Patented Process

Desulfation is the reversal of sulfation damage. The CTEK charger's unique process not only prevents the undercharging that produces excess sulfation, but it also includes a desulfating step that can often "revive" a lightly sulfated battery. It accomplishes this with carefully monitored electronic pulses of energy that help to break down the lead sulfate crystals, allowing the battery to accept a charge once again.

Ensures Consistent Charging with Low Ripple-Wave Percentage

Ripple-wave percentage is the quantity of disturbances exhibited in current and voltage. Even minor variations in household current can cause undercharging or overcharging, but CTEK's low-ripple design regulates the incoming current before passing it on to your battery, ensuring a consistent charge. This process can cause the charger to be a little slower than linear chargers but results in a healthier, more productive, longer-lasting battery.

Protects the Vehicle and Its Electronics

The charger is also safe for your vehicle. Its sophisticated circuitry is designed to be compatible with today's sensitive electronics and audio equipment. You can confidently charge your battery while it is still in the vehicle: no more hefting heavy batteries or dealing with tiresome system resetting! CTEK's low ripple rate eliminates the danger of damaging electronic devices connected to the battery.

Keeps You Informed

Indicators on the face of the charger light up to show the charging stage.

Video Transcript for CTEK Power Inc Battery Chargers - Battery Charger - CTEK56865 Review

Today, we're going to take a look at the CTEK US 0.8 universal battery charger with pulse maintenance. This is designed for small, 12-volt batteries. Now, this is a powerful, all-weather, six-step charger that uses the patented pulse maintenance system to charge and maintain 12-volt batteries. This one just happens to be designed to charge small batteries like those on motorcycles, snowmobiles, yard maintenance machines and trailer breakaway kits. It is a six-step, fully automatic system that will constantly monitor and maintain your 12-volt battery charge. It won't over charge or undercharge like your typical trickle chargers.

It does switch automatically to the pulse maintenance phase when your full charge has been reached. It does reduce the risk of overheating and sulfation and premature battery failure. It is very easy to use. They use this quick-disconnect system right here. It's a comfort-connect end plugs.

That charger plugs right into either one of these cords right here. They give you two different cords. They give you the clamp terminal cables, which will temporarily clamp to your battery terminals to charge it. You can see on this end is the comfort-connect plug. What you do is just after you've plugged this into your outlet, then you connect it. You just push them together.

Once you push them together, you can see that that orange tab will lock them into place so they won't come disconnected and then you hook your two cables up to your battery. Then, when you're done all you have to do is just push down on this little orange tab and that'll release it. Just like that. A very simple connection. Now, this cable is a fuse protectant.

It includes a 15-Amp fuse in it. Now, the other cable they offer . This is the eyelet terminal cable right here and this is designed to permanently attach to your battery terminals with these eyelets right here. Once you do that, same way; it is fuse protected. Includes the 15-Amp fuse and, again, has the same connector. This one actually happens because it's a permanent connector, they do put a cover on it. You do the same thing; plug it in but then when it's not plugged in you just put your cover back on it and that protects the connections. It has a very safe, versatile design. It's approved for indoor and outdoor use. Does prevent reverse polarity mistakes. They do also sell some convenient accessories that provide additional security and convenience. We do sell those separately on our website. You can actually get an additional battery hookup cable. We sell those separately. If you want to charge multiple vehicles. They also offer an LED indicator battery cable that will let you monitor your battery's charge at a glance. All those accessories are available on our website. We do sell those separately. Now, this does include the 12-volt battery charger. As I mentioned, it includes the set of battery cables with the terminal, battery terminal, clips. These are both 16 inches long and it cables with the M6 6.4 eyelet terminals. Nice owner's manual that describes all your connections and how to make them and a nice, protective case with a drawstring that you can put all this in and carry it around. Again, the specs on this . This is for most starter and deep-cycle, 12-volt, lead-acid batteries, which does include the wet batteries, the MF, the AGM and most gel batteries. It will charge batteries with capacities from 1.2 Amp hours to 30 Amp hours and it'll maintain batteries with capacities up to 100 Amp hours. Again, the charge cycle is a six-step, fully automatic charger with the pulse maintenance. Input voltage on this is 110-Volt AC up to 120-Volt AC. Charging voltage is 14.4 volts. The charging current is only a 0.8 amp and last thing I do is I just want to give you an idea of the size of this. If we measure overall length of it, you're looking at right at about five-and-a-half inches long. Width of it is about two inches wide and overall height, top to bottom, is one-and-a-half inches tall. That should do it for the review on the CTEK US 0.8 Universal Battery Charger with Pulse Maintenance for the small, 12-volt batteries.

  • Parts Needed to Install 7-Way Socket on 2011 Ford Ranger XLT with 4-Pole Connector
  • For your vehicle to be able to send a 12V trickle charge back to your trailer's battery you will need a 7-way type installation which includes this power feed. You do not need a converter box for the truck, just a 7-way socket # 37185 and some additional wire and a circuit breaker. Your existing 4-pole will simply plug in to this 7-way. You'll then need to make only the one 12V power connection using 10-gauge wire like # 10-1-1 and circuit breaker # PK54540. Your trailer will need to...

  • Troubleshooting Camper Breakaway Switch with Pin That Will Not Come Out
  • I am glad you were able to safety return home after your camper's brakes locked up. It sounds like your breakaway switch could be corroded internally. That would explain why the pin would not come out. It is possible that same corrosion caused a short inside the switch that in turn caused the breakaway battery to apply the trailer brakes. We can help you with a complete new breakaway kit like # 50-85-315 or the Tekonsha unit you referenced, part # 20020. We also offer breakaway switches...

  • Trailer Battery Fuse Location on 2017 GMC Sierra Denali 3500
  • I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2017 GMC Sierra Denali 3500. I was able to find that there is a "trailer battery" fuse located in the number 2 position in the fuse block in the engine compartment, which is on the driver's side of the truck. I recommend verifying this information and taking a look at the fuse panel map in your copy of the owner's manual as well.

  • Can Trailer Connector On Truck Charge Trailer Breakaway Battery Once It Is Dead
  • The current from the truck will not charge the battery in the Tekonsha Breakaway Kit, part # 20020 if the battery is completely dead. My contact at Tekonsha told me that it will charge the battery at a very low rate if the charger senses any charge on the battery. The charger in the 20020 will maintain a charge for the breakaway battery once it reaches its full charge. My recommendation is to use a battery charger like part # CTEK56865 to charge the battery when it is not being used....

  • How Are Brake Magnets Affected if Breakaway Cable Has Been Pulled for an Extended Period of Time
  • Breakaway Batteries are supposed to be able to send enough power to activate the trailer brakes for at least 15 minutes, but not for an extended period of time like 2 weeks. Your magnets are not hurt, but your battery is most likely dead. If you use a Battery Charger, like part # CTEK56865, then you might be able to coax your battery back to life. Even though just buying a new battery might be more cost-effective right now, in the long run it might be worthwhile to have a battery charger...
