CTEK MULTI US 7002 Charging Process

Superior and safe, this eight-step process (plus Supply Mode) uses switch-mode, pulse-maintenance technology.

  1. Desulfation stage is the initial charging phase. This stage uses electronic pulses to desulfate batteries by converting lead sulfate crystals back to usable sulfuric acid.
  2. Soft-start stage tests the battery to see whether it can be charged. If the battery is unable to hold the initial charge, the unit goes into Error Mode, alerting you that your battery must be replaced.
  3. Bulk stage is the main charging phase. This stage accounts for 80 percent of the charging process and uses a constant charge level.
  4. Absorption stage completes the charge (to virtually 100 percent) using diminishing current to prevent battery damage.
  5. Analysis stage kicks in if the pre-set maximum time needed for absorption is exceeded. The unit measures the battery voltage and stops the charging process, automatically lighting an error indicator if the battery is faulty.
  6. Recond mode is used to recondition a battery that has been severely discharged. After the battery has been charged in Normal Mode and analysis has been completed, the charger reconditions the battery w/ a constant current of 1.5A and a maximum voltage of 15.7V for up to 4 hours.
  7. Float-maintenance stage maintains a constant voltage of 13.6V during the first 10 days.
  8. Pulse-maintenance stage begins after the 10 days of float maintenance. This long-term stage maintains the battery at the optimum charge level of 95 to 100 percent by recognizing any drop in voltage and sending a corresponding pulse of current to keep the battery properly charged. Pulse maintenance can be continued for months at a time.

Supply mode - available only on this CTEK model - provides backup power to your vehicle while the battery is being changed. No more tiresome system resetting after battery changes.

CTEK US 7002 charging process chart

A goof-proof design distinguishes CTEK's new-generation chargers from the competition - you don't have to be a mechanical guru to keep your battery working at top efficiency. CTEK's patented charging system monitors your battery, providing exactly the charge it needs during each unique charging stage!

Protects the User

Your personal safety is paramount, and CTEK's spark-free, short-circuit-proof design incorporates a feature that prevents reverse polarity, keeping you safe. You simply cannot make a polarity mistake: The charger will not operate if it is attached incorrectly. In addition, the red alarm light on the charger alerts you if there is a reverse-polarity problem.

Protects the Battery

CTEK's patented, switch-mode, pulse-maintenance charging system is scientifically engineered to safely charge your battery by employing the most up-to-date technology. Using carefully monitored, low-grid voltage, CTEK's patented process differs from competitors' chargers in its ability to provide the precise final voltage that your battery needs to maintain optimum charge level. This sophisticated, interactive device will never overcharge or undercharge your battery. You may leave it attached to the battery for months, making it perfect for seasonal vehicle storage.

Won't cause overcharging or overheating. These together can cause gassing and excessive acid concentration that shortens the life of the battery by corroding the lead plates. When overcharged, the battery cells become dried out. Electrolytes "boil dry," generating excessive heat that can cause a fire.

Won't cause undercharging or sulfation. Undercharging can be just as damaging to your battery as overcharging because chronic undercharging leads to sulfation. Sulfation occurs when the lead and lead dioxide of the battery's plates react w/ sulfuric battery acid to produce lead sulfate. This in turn is converted back to lead, lead oxide and sulfuric acid. A small, unavoidable amount of sulfation and gassing naturally takes place as a result of the chemical processes occurring in lead-acid batteries. However, extensive undercharging causes extra lead sulfate to accumulate on the lead plates of the battery. Because the crystalline form of the sulfate cannot hold an electrical charge, excessive sulfation greatly diminishes the charging ability of the battery, eventually rendering it unusable.

Provides desulfation w/ a patented process. Desulfation is the reversal of sulfation damage. The CTEK charger's unique process not only prevents the undercharging that produces excess sulfation, it also includes a desulfating step that can often "revive" a lightly sulfated battery. It accomplishes this w/ carefully monitored electronic pulses of energy that help to break down the lead sulfate crystals, allowing the battery to accept charge once again.

Ensures consistent charging w/ low ripple-wave percentage rate. Ripple-wave percentage is the quantity of disturbances exhibited in current and voltage. Even minor variations in household current can cause undercharging or overcharging, but CTEK's low-ripple design regulates the incoming current before passing it on to your battery. This process can cause the charger to be a little slower than linear chargers but results in a healthier, more productive, longer-lasting battery.

Protects the Vehicle and Its Electronics

The charger is also safe for your vehicle. Its sophisticated circuitry is designed to be compatible w/ today's sensitive electronics and audio equipment. You can confidently charge your battery while it is still in the vehicle: no more hefting heavy batteries! CTEK's low ripple rate eliminates the danger of damaging electronic devices connected to the battery, and it prolongs the battery's service life. If you must replace your battery, the Supply Mode provides backup power to your vehicle's systems when you remove or replace the battery, sparing you the hassle of resetting your controls.

Video Transcript for CTEK Multi US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger Review

Today we are going to show you part number CTEK56353 from Ctek. This is the Multi US 7002 charger. And what this charger does is best for a variety of different vehicles. Lets cover the components. First off, you obviously have the charger itself, it has clamps that will clamp onto the battery itself and charge it, and also, it has a permanent mount of two ring terminals here that use this port to connect up to the charger itself. :28

The clamps also have the same type of port to hook up to the charger. Everything can fit in this bag right here that comes supplied with it too. Lets go ahead and cover the charger and a few more details. First of, we have it plugged in, you can see that it is getting power by the indicator light right there. Go ahead and hit the mode button, now thats normal, its going to fit the vast majority of batteries out there. Car, truck, boat batteries. :57

The next one, the snow flake is for deep cycle mode, that is for optima batteries. And also, if you have a regular car battery, and it is below 41 degrees, its really cold out, that type of charge it uses in that mode is a lot easier on the battery when it is in the cold. Next is a supply feature which is really cool, what it does is puts out a constant 13 volts so you can actually hook this up to your vehicle and supply the vehicle with power while you take out the battery or change the battery. It is a neat little system that it has built in there. And finally, it has a reconditioning mode. Basically you want to use that after your battery is fully charged, it really good when you have a battery or a deep cycle battery that has been fully discharged, this actually reconditions the battery again. All right we will go ahead and hook this up to the battery here, show you a more realistic setting. We will demonstrate how to hook up to this battery here. First off, it is gong to be black to negative and red to positive. Then what we will do is this port here will connect to the port of the Ctek charger, just snaps together like so. All right we have it hooked up, finally we will go ahead and plug it to our 1-10 outlet and then this is regular maintenance for your battery. 2:18

So we will go ahead and switch it to normal mode, as you can see here it is blinking. Right now the charger is in desulphation mode. That means that it is getting the battery ready to charge. After that it will do what is called a soft charge, and then it will work its way up to the bolt charge, and then absorption which will top off the battery. And then it will analyze the condition of the battery. What it will do next is go into float mode, and then to top off the battery to maintain it. And then after that, its left in storage leave it on there, you can leave it on there for weeks or months if you need to, it will stay in pulse mode to maintain the voltage in the battery. It is easy to get in a hurry or make a mistake, you can easily put the red to black and black to red, and what happens is the charger is smart enough to know that condition and match it to it. But it does not allow anything to short out, so you are still safe. In a typically application you have to change out the battery, you are going to go ahead and undo your terminals, and then your radio is going to loose all its presets, so then you have to go back and fix all your presets and that stuff. There is a way around that, with your charger in supply mode what we can do is go back and put on our charger, loosen up, this can also go on a different ground on the vehicle also. Go ahead and loosen this one up. There is still a little bit of power going to it, so you want to be careful you do not take your wrench and go to something that is grounded and fry it. This is the idea. 4:16

Move this out of the way and go ahead change the battery and not have to worry about losing our radio settings. You do not have to use the clamps to change out the battery too. Depending on the configuration of the terminals on your vehicle, you can probably use the ring terminals to hook up from the CTEK charger, and go ahead and change out your battery that way. Whichever works out the best for you. With that we have covered all the functions and details of part number CTEK56353 from CTEK.

This charger has worked flawlessly on a set of 4 golf cart batteries paired in series for a 12 volt system used on my RV. It is easy to operate and durable. Instructions are easy to understand. The easy clip exchange between battery clips vs. screw down rings makes it easy to switch over to other batteries, such as for my boat, for a quick charge. 674161

I purchased a C Tek battery charger and it is much more advanced than the Battery Tenders that I have used for years. While the Battery Tenders do a good job of keeping a battery up, the C Tek can in some cases restore a battery that is sulphated. I like it as it is also a power supply if you want to change your battery and not loose the settings in your car. 568609

We have used the C-Tek chargers for many years for vehicle prototype development, and it is the only brand and model that we use. Our normal supplier did not have this item in stock. I searched online for someone who could supply our needs as we were behind on a project. Etrailer had this item in stock. They offered great customer service and fast shipping. We ordered 4 chargers. We will start using Etrailer.com in the future for the C-Tek and other items. 479791

I purchased this same unit about 10 years ago and have had good experience with it. It is still in good working order so when I developed the need for an additional unit I opted for the same mfg. My only concern is ordering from an authorized distributor in order to maintain the mfg warranty. Ordering from etrailer web site was a little confusing at the point of placing the order and I wasn’t sure if the order was actually submitted until I received a confirmation later that day. Delivery time was out the door same day. I would order from this distributor again in the future. 739546

Without a doubt the best charger I have ever owned. I use this charger on all three of my vehicles. Plus my motorcycle and garden tractor. Note: Just wish there was an accessory that allowed me to charge both batteries on my diesel truck at the same time. 730500

- CTEK56353

Excellent product does as advertised. I read a comment from one of the eTrailer experts that this battery charger can provide 12VDC as a power supply. Hooked it up and it does exactly what I need - providing shore power a few lights and fans in my cargo (motorcycle) trailer. 183861

- CTEK56353

Excellent product but Made In China. 167002

- CTEK56353

This is my second purchase for etrailer. The service has been excellent each time, and the quality of the products is also excellent. The CTEK battery charger is easy to use. I have used it on Optima batteries, which don't charge as well on conventional chargers. It works great. Just hook it up, and it stops when it is finished. 16321

  • How to Charge a Trailer Battery for Use with a Bulldog Jack
What you described is actually the best solution! Connecting your battery to 12V Power wire from the 7-Way on your trailer is a great way to provide a maintenance charge on your battery to operate a Bulldog jack like part # BD500199. Mounting a battery inside a box like part # 329-HM300BKS inside your trailer will further help to keep your battery safe from the elements (although battery boxes do a pretty good job at that). In order to wire your exterior hi-mount trailer lights so that they are powered by the reverse light circuit on your Ram but can also be powered by the on board battery, you will just need to use a diode like the Roadmaster # RM-790. The output side of the diode will go to your exterior LED lights, while the input side will go to the center pin on your 7-Way and also to your on board battery via a switch like # PK34308. I also recommend adding a circuit breaker like # 9506P before the battery....

  • Comparing CTEK and NOCO Battery Chargers
We recently added the NOCO product line to our existing range of battery chargers which has long included CTEK products like # CTEK56353. I have owned one of the CTEK chargers for almost 6 years and it has worked perfectly for me in continuous service, always being on either a motorcycle, lawn mower or car battery 100-percent of the time during those 6 years. Based on that performance I can only give it high marks. The NOCO charger # 329-G15000 for example also provides charging and...

  • Best Method For Connecting The CTEK MULTI US 7002 12V Universal Battery Charger To Battery
The CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger w/ Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power, # CTEK56353, is an excellent charger and maintainer. It is maintencence free and utilizes an 8-step system to constantly monitor and maintain 12V battery charge. For connection, I recommend using the quick-disconnect system with the eyelet-terminal cable to permanantly attach to your battery terminals. This will give you the quick plug function and will prevent you from needing to double check...

  • Add Battery/12V System To Existing 120V System In Pop Up Trailer
For the application that you are attempting, you will need to install a battery and wire the trailer to run off that battery instead of running off the shore power at a campsite. If all of your trailer lights and appliances run off of 120V then the 12 volt battery is not going to power them. you will need to add 12 volt accessories and lights to the trailer. If the trailer currently uses a converter from the shore power and the accessories and lighting run on 12 volts then you can run them...

  • Battery Connection for 6V Vehicle and 12V Accessories
If I am understanding correctly you want to run two 6 volt batteries in series to get your 12V output. This will work well and allow you to also run a 12V battery with those two 6V batteries, when you then connect the output power 12V of the two 6V batteries in parallel with your 12V battery. The issue you will have is separating the 6V you need for your kit car. A 12V battery can start a 6V starter with precautions, but the issue would be the constant 12V power going to your light...

  • Can a 12 Volt Accessory Circuit of a 7-Way Charge a Trailer Battery
The 12 volt accessory pin that is on GM 7-ways is better used as an accessory circuit for trailer lights that operate with a switch, but it can help keep a maintenance charge on a trailer battery that is in good shape. It doesn't have the amperage rating to charge a dead battery though. For charging a dead battery you would want to use a shore battery charger like the CTEK battery charger part # CTEK56353. I attached a review video for this charger for you to check out as well.

  • Using 7-Way Trailer Connector 12-Volt Accessory Circuit to Maintain Battery on Dump Trailer
If you have read our previous responses regarding the use of the 12-volt accessory circuit from the 7-way, then you know that the circuit can be used to maintain, but not charge a depleted trailer-mounted battery. We typically recommend using a battery charger like the # CTEK56353 CTEK Universal Battery Charger to recharge a depleted battery. The 12-volt accessory circuit should already be fused (or if the 7-way was installed aftermarket, protected by a 40 amp inline circuit breaker...

  • Can Battery be Charged and Discharged at Same Time
While you can't have a battery being charged and discharged at the same time if you were to charge a battery at 1 amp and have a 3 amp accessory attached to it (like an inverter powering something) basically you'd be discharging the battery at 2 amps instead since the charger would be supplying one of the amps for the accessory.

  • Adding LED Pod Lights to Trailer Rack
Adding LED pod lights to your trailer's rack system will require an auxiliary power source such as a 12 volt battery that you will need to mount on your trailer and wire the lights to. The Vision X Optimus Round Prime Pod Light Kit # XIL-OPR120KIT which has a wide spot beam or the Vision X Optimus Round Prime Pod Light Kit # XIL-OPR110KIT which has a narrow spot beam has the wiring and switch included in the kit. • Solar Charging System for RV with 6V and 12V Batteries
In order to have multiple solar panels provide trickle re-charging to an array of RV batteries you need to have a controller that can manage the output from the panels. My contact at Go Power! said that most 100 watt solar panels output 20 volts and this is simply to much for 12V and 6V batteries even if multiple ones are wired together. A controller like # 34280503 is essential for ensuring the panels' output is stepped down to the appropriate voltage/current to prevent overcharging. I...

  • Can an Electric Trailer Jack be Powered from a 7-Way Trailer Connector
While you could possibly run the power from the 7-Way to the jack, it is not ideal and you could overload the circuit. I recommend adding a battery to the trailer and providing a maintenance charge to the battery from the 7-Way. You will connect the 12 volt circuit from the 7-Way trailer connector to the positive battery terminal. The jack will get its power from the trailer battery this way and not from the vehicle 7-Way. Having the wire to provide a maintenance charge will only maintain...

  • Adding a Second Trailer Battery to Power Trailer Accessory Lights
While you can add a second battery to power lights, this is going to require a second, 12 volt auxiliary battery; this is the same concept you were thinking of but a breakaway system battery isn't going to have the power or amp hours needed for your lights. Doing this is fairly simple as you will just need to start by mounting Battery Box # 329-HM318BKS to your trailer frame with some self-tapping screws and washers, like you can see in the linked video review of this box. Then to charge...

I reached out to the manufacturer and he gave me some tips on troubleshooting for your etrailer 4,500-Watt Portable Generator # 333-0005: 1 - It would be best to get the battery charged at an auto parts store (you can also do this using a charger like part # CTEK56353) 2 - Sometimes when running the propane you need to adjust the choke while starting 3 - You can have them clean the spark plug 4 - Disconnect the regulator from propane tank, reconnect turning the propane valve on slowly 5...

  • Electric Trailer Jack and Landing Gear Recommendations for 3 Different Trailers
It sounds like you have 3 heavy trailers! For the first two trailers I recommend using a landing gear set such as # UF17-943010 rated for 12,000 pounds total. Each jack has its own motor so they can be raised and lowered independently of each other which is great for keep the trailer level. For the third trailer I recommend the Husky Brute # HT87247 which is rated for 4,500 pounds. Since the jack will be mounted towards the front of the trailer it will not have to handle the total weight...
