Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to take a quick look at the Duracell Battery Charger and Maintainer. This is going to be a good way to keep the battery charged on any kind of accessory that you might have, whether that's an ATV, a snowmobile, a small utility vehicle or anything like that, and to make sure that it's ready to go whenever you are. It's going to be this main portion that plugs into your wall and then you've got a couple of different options as far as how you get connected up to your battery. You've got this quick connect and then you've got a couple of little kind of alligator clamps, or you've got a couple of ring terminals for kind of a more permanent mount design. Either way you want to use it, it's totally fine. Both of those connections do have a fuse in line to help protect that so you don't have to worry about any issues.

It's a 10-amp fuse, and I believe that's the same for both. Yep, 10-amp fuse for both of those and the fuse is included, so it's already in there. Now, as far as whether or not this is going to be the right one for you, we do have a couple other options as far as battery chargers and maintainers, all from Duracell. The thing to look at is how many amps the battery that you're trying to charge or maintain has, the amp hours, and compare that with what this is rated for. This is rated for .8-amp, so it's kind of a slower charger or something for a smaller type battery. If you've got time, if you don't really care how long it takes, you just want to have a kind of trickle charge into that battery, this would be a good option.

If you want something, that's going to be a faster charger, especially for a bigger battery, you might want to go with something that's rated a little bit higher. We have a couple other ones that are rated a bit higher than this one. That's just kind of how to make that comparison.Usually, the best way to figure out how long it's going to take is to divide the amp hours of the battery you're trying to charge by the amp rating for the charger, and that'll give you your hours. If you had like an 80-amp rated battery, it would take about 11 hours to charge it with this, because you divide that in there and then add about 10% to get it to top off, going from the battery being completely dead to go into 100%. That's kind of the math to do there.

I used 80 hours just to make it easy math for me. But if you had a 40-amp battery, it would be about six hours to charge that all the way from dead to 100%. As far as that goes, that's the thing to consider.Taking a little closer look at these guys, just to see how they connect together. Again, we'll have our quick connectors, so just take the caps off of these. It's always nice they have caps to make sure that you don't have any rust buildup or any kind of dirt and debris getting caught in there.

Plug it in. Put it to your positive/negative terminal on the battery, clamp it on. Pretty straightforward. They are color coded to make sure that you clamp it onto the right one.It does have overload short circuit and reverse polarity protection as well as low voltage protection so you shouldn't have any issues. Again, since that fuse is there, you shouldn't have to worry about it damaging your battery or the charger itself if you happen to switch them around. And it's going to attach the same way to those ring terminals as well so pretty easy there. This works with 12 volt batteries and it supports lead-acid, AGM and gel type batteries. It does not work with lithium, however, so that is one thing to keep in mind. It does, again, have that max charging amperage of .8-amp. The input voltage can be between 100 and 240 volts AC, and we've got about five feet of wire here. If you we're to pull this all the way out, you have about five feet for this to stretch out to your accessory and weighs less than a pound so it should be pretty easy to transport with you as you need. And that's pretty much all there is to it. There is a little light on here that will help to indicate when the power is going through here and whenever it's done charging versus being charged. Whenever it's fully charged, it'll turn green. Whenever it's still charging, it's going to stay red. That's kind of the quick rundown of this charger. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you. It's always our goal here at etrailer.com to get you the right part the first time. I hope this video was helpful. I'm Ellen with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Review from a similar DBC in Battery Charger

So far so good. I’ve only had it a few weeks, but it’s working well as a battery maintainer to keep my travel trailer deep cycle battery charged over the off-season.

Ask the Experts about this Duracell Battery Charger

  • How To Store AGM Batteries For Cold Winter Months
You cannot put RV batteries, marine batteries, and other deep cycle batteries away and forget about them when you’re not using them in the winter. All batteries can freeze if it gets cold enough, but AGM batteries can work at temperatures well below freezing. Although AGM batteries are maintenance-free and work well in cold weather, they still need to be checked and maintained during the winter months in storage. All batteries have a natural state of self-discharge, and the worst thing...
