What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this two amp battery charger and maintainer from Duracell. What this is gonna be good for, is if you leave your vehicle, say you leave your lights on or something like that, and you have a low battery and you wanna get it charged back up, you can hook this up there, leave it up in your garage, and it will slowly charge it back up. Another thing you can use it for is, if you have a lawnmower that sits in the winter, in the garage all winter, you wanna hook these up there to it, it'll maintain that battery. That way, that battery never completely gets dead, it stays nice and usable, that way when it's time to bring it back out it'll fire right up and you won't have any issues. Let's check it out.

We're gonna go in the order you use it. So first up, I'm just gonna plug it into our extension cord we ran here, and come over to the box. You'll see the green power light on, and you know it gets power. Now if you go to connect this to something and it turns red, that means there's an error. So at least it warns you, there's not gonna be feedback issues or anything like that.

It'll warn you about the battery having issues. So let's go ahead and hook it up to the car battery and I'll come back to the box, it'll be flashing, it'll take a couple of seconds for it to figure it out, but it's monitoring the battery, and it'll let us know what kind of charge the battery has. So we'll wait for it to stop blinking, 25%, jumps up to 50%, and it looks like it's gonna hang out there for a while. So our battery is about 50% of a charge, so if we leave it on here, it'll eventually fill all the way up to a 100. Some things we'll look at with it hooked up, we got the green light the whole time, so we knew that the battery was fine, there was no error in the connection.

Another thing is, it auto detects whether you have the 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery. Now you can manually change that. One of the things it says in the instructions is if your battery is super, super low and you'll get up there it might think it's a 6 volt, when it's a 12 volt, so you can manually change that, just by holding that button and it'll switch it over to either one. The charger maintainer works with lead-acid batteries, AGM batteries, and lithium-ion batteries. If you want to switch to lithium-ion mode, you have to hit the button here.

It won't auto detect that, so make sure you switch it to the right mode when you're hooking it up to that kind of power. Now you have two options for connecting it. Right now we're just using the clamps on the battery, and that's good for if you're going to use this on a couple of different vehicles. If you have it on your truck, the lawnmower, maybe a snowmobile or something in your garage, you're gonna be moving the charger around, the clamps are the better way to go, but if you only have your truck, and that's what you're worried about, keeping the battery nice on that, you can use these ring terminal hookups, this is more of the permanent thing. So you'll attach this to your battery, have this hanging out, then all you have to do is plug this in every time when you want to start charging that battery. It doesn't take much to disconnect it. You just pull these two parts of the plug apart. Then, if you want to do the more permanent thing, let's say this was installed in the battery side, you just easily push these two ends together, and it's connected. When it's charged, you can just disconnect this, this part will stay in your vehicle, if it's hooked up to that battery, then you can reattach this. So you can still use it on multiple vehicles, but if you're gonna use it on one mainly, I would just go ahead and attach this to that battery. Another nice thing about this, if you we're to permanently install it, it has a dust cap, so if the cable is just kind of hanging out in here, if it was in the engine bay when not using it, but you pull it out here when you wanna plug it in, you can just put that dust cap on there. That way it just keeps the connection clean. Looking closer at the box, you can see on each corner there's a hole, and it comes with the screws to go in there. That way you can permanently mount it to a workbench. So if you have a garage set up, and you just wanna keep it there because the cable could swing off to the side and you know kind of move that around on your table, you could permanently mount it, that way you just bring the batteries to it. Even if you don't permanently install it, it is pretty small. It will be out of your way in your garage or wherever you want to store it. Overall, I think it's a good thing to have. I think it'll definitely help you out if you have a vehicle that sits over the winter, or that lawnmower, it's gonna help you keep that charged and keep that battery healthy. Now this one is two amps, so if you're looking for more amperes there are other options out there, so see those on our website. I think that about does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

So far so good. I’ve only had it a few weeks, but it’s working well as a battery maintainer to keep my travel trailer deep cycle battery charged over the off-season.

  • Does the Precision Tool 2.5 Watt Solar Charger Work on 6v Batteries
I have a solution for you to keep the 6v battery charger on your tractor maintained, but the # PTW2997 is only designed for 12v batteries. However, you can use the Duracell Battery Charger and Maintainer # DU27FR to keep the battery charged and it would do a great job. This charger uses automatic multi-stage charging to extend battery life, so you'll never have to worry about over-charging. We do not currently offer a solar setup capable of charging a 6v battery.
