Note: Roadmaster direct-connect base plates will only work with Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch, such as the Sterling, Blackhawk, Blackhawk 2, Falcon, or Falcon 2. These base plates will not work with tow bars that require a hitch ball.
The drawbars, or front arms, on this base plate kit are supremely easy to mount and remove. Just insert them into the brackets and twist to lock them in place. To remove each arm, simply tug the built-in pull pin to disengage the lock, twist the arm back and pull it out of the bracket. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

2015 Chevrolet Traverse
Although I haven't installed this item as yet, I want to comment on the service I received from the staff at etrailer. They were without a doubt, the most knowledgeable people I have ever dealt with, not only did they know this product, but they were well versed in its application, and how 2 different parts compared & what was unique to each one. With the included instructions, installation was easy. Now it takes me only a few minutes to totally hook up my dingy, & Im not filthy dirty, like i used to be, with the car dolly. I also find it easier to tow, since the vehicle profile isnt as wide.

Very easy to install and as usual, always a pleasure to deal with Etrailer. Their videos are a fantastic plus. They explain everything in great detail. The baseplate was exactly what I needed since I already have a similar set up on my Honda CRV. This allows me to tow either vehicle behind my motorhome. I also used diode wiring kit RM-15267 and RM-156-25, the battery charge kit. The videos were extremely helpful. I watched the diode video kit numerous times and took notes, before doing that project. It would have been nice to have a shop and lift, but I had to do with a cold garage and driveway with some blankets to lay on. The battery charge kit wire was really not long enough, so I bought some 14 gauge wire and made a longer wire. My jeep battery is in the rear of the engine compartment on passenger side. Kit may be ok for front battery. I've tested everything except the charging wire and actually towed my Jeep for a few miles to make sure everything works as it should. I was a little disappointed when I saw what the markup on the base plate kit was, but I couldn't have done the installation without the videos, so I ended up saving the money to have it all done. I was pleased that the baseplate fit under my aftermarket EAG winch bumper, which was very reasonable. You can see that the installation is a clean one. Sorry the pics aren't in perfect order.

The roadmaster rm-523193-5 arrived as promised. The box the base plate came is was damage, and a good 5 inch whole was exposed. Good news, was that upon opening the box nothing was damage. The base plate installed as intended, and etrailer videos was so helpful. Very happy with the way it looks on my 2018 Equinox .

Thanks yes we used the base plate in our equinox and it worked great. Towed the car over 2000 miles on a trip this year. Only complaint, and it is small, is the rust appeared already on the front post. But the product is very sound and clear install manual made the job easy.

We have towed our Jeep almost 2,000 miles since installing the recommended parts from etrailer and it has worked perfectly on every connect and disconnect along the way. Tows beautifully, even at 70 mph. Excellent customer service and helpful videos from these folks. Would recommend to anyone needing help with parts and guidance in towing their toad to give them a call.

Our system is still working perfectly a year later. Our Jeep is a 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk and while we’ve seen some RV forums talk about “death wobble”, we have never experienced this using these Roadmaster products towbar & baseplate. We tow the Jeep with our 39’ Class A gasser and hardly know its back there. Even on sharp corners the Jeep follows perfectly and no binding. Connecting or disconnecting takes maybe 5 – 7 minutes. Then check all of our lights, make sure the Jeep is in neutral wbrakes off and we’re on our way. The braking system that we installed purchased from etrailer is the “Stay-n-Play Duo”. I would recommend that to anyone looking for easy operation. The installation time was a bit lengthy and involved but once completed makes all of your towing trips much easier. Just the flip of a switch and the braking system is ready for towing. No portable unit to lug around and adjust each time you tow your vehicle. The etrailer folks made the perfect recommendations for our needs and everything has worked GREAT!

I have a 2019 GMC Denali and this product from Roadmaster is fantastic. Installation was easy with out having to remove the grill or valance or bumper. There was no trimming on the Plastic. The baseplate installed from the rear with a little push and nudge. there was one bolt just a tad long but this was fixed with a washer. If this is your model of vehicle and you don't want to trash the front get this base plate.

Received base plate with absolutely no damage. Had a few problems with the nut plates but Shawn B. did an excellent job in getting it corrected. Very pleased with the looks of this base plate on my Jeep. (2018 JK 2 door) Looking forward to getting hooked up to my motorhome and start traveling.

Installing the 2020 Chevy Equinox base plate was easy. Perfect directions and videos helped a lot. Taking the front end off a brand new car was scary. Only real hard part came when trying to determine which parts of the from grill to cut the openings for the quick connections and the wiring connector protrusions. The cuts have to be made prior to reinstalling the grill and you can't really see where to cut without the grill in the correct configuration on the fender. So you cut and trim to fit. Then get the grill into the fender connector then check and make additional cuts as necessary. Also I installed a Invisibrake inside of the engine bay, not under the back seat. This was my wife's suggestion and she was correct. It fits and you only have to run the little air tube through the firewall. No taking apart of the interior molding except the driver kick panel for the pneumatic cylinder. Very easy.

I purchased this baseplate system for a 2014 Ford Focus. Just finished installing it. Excellent instructions and online video. Make sure you watch it and follow the paper instructions. Let me inform anyone attempting this on your own it is a process. You need to remove the entire front fascia and headlights. The undercarriage plastic air dams also have to come off. This is not difficult if you are a decent mechanic/collision person. If you plan on tackling this yourself allow 3-5 hours if you are a capable individual. If not, take it to a shop you trust. I personally have a shop and all the jacks and tools required. It took me approximately 4-1/2 hours start to finish. But I had a/c, lights, music and my dog kReaping me company. The most frustrating part was drilling the two access hole in the frame. Not sure what that metal alloy is but a dulled my drills and ruined a perfectly good high end hole saw. I ended up using a pnuematic cut off Grinder. I am very satisfied with the end result. Take your time. Don’t let yourself get aggravated and the install should go smooth. Save a bunch installing it yourself. Good Luck. Thanks RoadMaster and etrailer.

Excellent attention to detail on my phone order and the shipping was prompt. I have access to an automotive lift and I highly recommend its use. Ford didn't make this an easy task on its Explorer, including installing the universal tail light wiring kit it took me and a willing son-in-law about 8 hours to complete. Only minor grill trimming required for access to arm mount receivers and safety cable eyes. The bolt-up of baseplate was straight forward after drilling the frame and securing the mounting brackets. The weld nuts made a simple task of bolting those brackets. I'm fairly handy with a slightly above-average tool collection but if that is not the case, a professional installation by a garage, RV service center, or body shop would be a good call. Took the rig and Explorer out for a test tow and found everything secure and solid. I'm 65-years old and crawling around under the front bumper is not as easy as it used to be. The bayonette-style removeable arms with the spring-pin locks make connecting and disconnecting to my Falcon2 bar a stand-up pleasure. Well designed and well thought out. Every part/fastener is included.

Wow this was great . I installed it myself on a 2021 Dodge Ram . I watched the video on you tube specific for a 2019 Ram but mine was the same . It fit great with minimal cutting and the directions were spot on too. There is a long bolt toward the back of the tow hook on a Ram which has a star washer holding it to the inside of frame which you cannot reach . I took a 2x4 and notched it out for the bolt then tapped it from above with a mallet .

Product is well made and fit perfectly and the instructions were very thorough with good pictures for examples, only items I would highlight is the 18MM head bolt when removed without having a tow hook is difficult to remove after loosening due to a star washer holding it in the frame, I had to use a wrench and hammer to pull it all the way out and directions that came with mine said to remove the active air dam after the above step which was possible but removing the air dam as the first step would make things much easier. I noticed afterwards the PDF on the website does have it as the first step. I ended up trimming the plastic took hook pieces for a nice finished look. (See pics) Overall very satisfied and now I can pull my new truck behind the RV and sell my old Durango which is ready for retirement.

I just installed, on my 2015 Honda Fit LX, took me some time with the drilling part, but overall i got it done in about a couple hours plus going to home depot to get a better drill bit. I used dremmel to trim the plastic grill. I didnt see it on the instructions, but i zoomed in the photo to count the areas that needed to be cut.

I ordered this Roadmaster tow plate to flat tow my Jeep Wrangler behind my motorhome. Katherine B at etrailer was very helpful in assuring the tow plate was the part I needed. The tow plate arrived in a few days and I installed it myself. It was an easy installation. The tow plate is sturdy and well built and fits nicely under the front bumper. Thank you etrailer and especially Katherine B. Now I have to decide on the type of braking system for my towed Jeep.

I really like the way the couplers that connect to the towbard are removable and easily stowed. Great improvement over the old bar. Installation took me all day but the instructions were clear; the biggest problem I had was putting the pieces of the fender back together. I highly recommend (for a Honda CR-V at least) you get the plastic fender parts since the ones you will take out break. No complaints about the tow bar; worked great.

This was an easy install for the bracket attaching to my Grand Cherokee. To be fair it took about 10 hours but this is including the wiring for the lights and I was pretty anal about the routings making extra sure of no pinching points, etc. This was my first time ever doing such. Instructions are good and you need to take your time. This is a high quality product that I would recommend to a friend. I used my Armada to do a test tow to make sure everything worked properly. Thumbs up on the test drive.

Product arrived very quick. It is well made and came complete with all hardware and instructions. The only problem was that it has extra mounting plates for each side that doesn't show up on any of the videos. The instructions say if there isn't a hole on the outside of the frame on each side just to drill through from the inside to make the hole on the outside. There is barely enough room to get your hand in there let alone a drill. I lined up the lower holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the frame and marked the upper hole, drilled a pilot hole and checked the inside and adjusted accordingly then drilled the final hole. I like the fact that I can remove the tow arms so they are not shin busters.

I chose the Roadmaster EZ5 base plate for my 2018 Colorado because its connection height would work better with my motorhome's hitch height. Installation was fairly straightforward but I found the supplied instructions lacking in a few areas. Although it took me far longer than the advertised 3 hours ... I believe the installation went well and should work well. This is my 5th baseplate install and this one went smoothly and the quality of the equipment seems fine.

Great product and fitment. I have yet to tow my 14 Cherokee Trailhawk yet but the installation was extremely straight forward and between the detailed written directions and the video, installation was a cinch. Installed base plate, light diode, battery charger, and breakaway in 6 hours. Baseplate required very minimal facia trimming. Bought a dremel for cheap on Craigslist with a metal cutoff bit and trimming tool. Perfect tool for the job. etrailer customer service and shipping is top notch
