Note: Roadmaster direct-connect base plates will only work with Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch, such as the Sterling, Blackhawk, Blackhawk 2, Falcon, or Falcon 2. These base plates will not work with tow bars that require a hitch ball.

The drawbars, or front arms, on this base plate kit are supremely easy to mount and remove. Just insert them into the brackets and twist to lock them in place. To remove each arm, simply tug the built-in pull pin to disengage the lock, twist the arm back and pull it out of the bracket. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Installation - 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited

Shane: Hi. I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to help you install Roadmaster's Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms on our 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. It's gonna be one of five main components in a flat tow setup, the other four are gonna be your safety cables, your tow bar, your braking system and your wiring. Our base plate is gonna be attached, directly to the chassis of our Jeep Wrangler. It's gonna give us a solid connection point between our tow bar and our Jeep so we can safely flat tow it behind our RV.As you can see here, with our tabs removed it's gonna maintain a nice clean look on the front of the vehicle when we're not flat towing it. When we're ready to flat tow it, we're gonna take our removable arms, we're gonna slide it in sideways. You're gonna have a spring-loaded pin and I'm gonna twist it 'til it locks into place.

You want to make sure that this tab is on the inside and is on the top, that's how you know which side which arm is on. To take them out, you simply pull the ring, twist it and slide it out.Now when you're ready to flat tow your vehicle, you're ready to hook up with your tow bar, simply insert your tabs, these are gonna be your safety chain loops, these two rods here are gonna be for your wiring accessory or your plug. This base plate is gonna be compatible with Roadmaster tow bars that are motorhome mounted only and what that means is your tow bar is gonna slide into the hitch of the motorhome, it is not gonna be ball mounted. One thing that's gonna set this base plate apart from others, on Jeep Wranglers is our cross tube, it is completely hidden behind our belly pan, some of the other ones that cross beam is gonna be out here and this whole base plate may stick out a little bit farther, so in my opinion, I think this one is gonna help maintain a very nice clean look on the front of the vehicle. It's gonna be a black, powdered coated steel, so it's gonna resist any rust or corrosion. It's gonna be a custom fit base plate, it's not going to require any welding.

It can be done in your garage with some very simple tools.Let's go ahead and install it together. To start our installation, we're gonna have two pushpin fasteners in between our grill and our bumper that we need to remove. These are a little hard to get to, you're gonna need a pretty small screwdriver or a pretty small trim panel tool. We're gonna pry up the center and we want to make sure we get that base out with it. We're gonna do the same thing to the other side. Now we need to remove the plastic belly pan underneath. We're gonna have two screws, one here and one on this side.

We're gonna use an eight millimeter socket to remove those. Then we're going to take a plastic trim panel tool, flat head screwdriver, we're gonna have some fasteners that run right along the edge of our bumper here that we need to remove to get the rest of our panel out. They're gonna look like this. We're just gonna pry in between the two pieces, pry that center up. You want to make sure that you bring the base with it or at least get the base out also. Then we're going to set our panel aside to be reinstalled later on.On your passenger side framer rail, you're gonna make sure you unplug your fog lights.

We're gonna push in and pull out just like that. Then on each side of our frame rail. We're gonna have two nuts here, two nuts on the inside of our frame rail and then on our driver's side we're gonna have two nuts on the inside, two nuts on the outside of our frame rail, which are gonna hold our bumper to the frame rail. We use an 18 millimeter socket to remove this. We'll slide our bumper out, set it aside to be reinstalled later on.On each frame rail, we're gonna have two frame stiffeners we need to remove, which is this bracket here. We're gonna use a 5/16ths or 5/8th socket, we're gonna have a bolt here, we're gonna have one on the inside, we're gonna have that same setup on the other frame rail. Go ahead and remove your bolts and your frame stiffeners, they will not be reinstalled. Now, we're going to take a half inch drill bit, we need to open up this top hole and this hole. We want to make sure that hole is opened up all the way through to the other side. That one's already open. Now on the Sahara model, we're going to have a plate that runs here in the middle. You can see where I have it marked out, we're gonna need to cut this center section off and then we're going to replace this because we're going to have a nut back here that holds our belly pan on. We'll take a 16 millimeter socket, we'll pull that off and then we're going to cut these. I'm gonna take a die cutter or a grinding wheel, we'll cut that out.Once you've got the center section cut out, you're gonna reinstall the remaining pieces. Then we're gonna have two side specific brackets. They're gonna look like this. The driver's side, this long piece is gonna be at the bottom and it's gonna line up with these two holes; the holes that we drilled. It's gonna look like that. We're gonna take a long hex bolt, you wanna make sure you use a lock tight on all of your hardware. I'm gonna slide it through like this and then what I'm gonna do is, on the inside I'm gonna pull it towards flush with the inside of the frame rail. We're gonna do that on both sides. We're gonna take our main receiver base, we're gonna run up like this and we're gonna take our bolts and we'll slide 'em in from each side, that'll hold our receiver brace in place while we start installing our main hardware. We're gonna put on a lock washer and a nut. We're just gonna loosely install it for now. We're gonna do the same thing on the other side. We're gonna have four pipe spacers, that we're gonna fit right in between our frame rail and our brackets. We'll slide it in like this and again, we'll use another one of our long bolts. There. Then we're gonna do the same thing here; lock washer, and then a nut. We're gonna repeat that same process for the other side.Next we're gonna install our crossmember support bracket. It's gonna look like this and it's gonna go, there's a plate here on the back of our main receiver brace and then our crossmember's right here. There's gonna be a large hole in the top and the bottom. We're gonna be running a bolt through this plate, up through the crossmember to a nut plate.First we're going to start with our bracket. We're going to place our bracket on top of our main receiver brace. We're gonna line it up with that hole, make sure we're going over-top of our sway bar. We're gonna take one and a half inch hex bolt, flat washer, lock tight and we're gonna go down through and on the bottom here, we're gonna put on our lock washer and our nut. This is gonna be your nut plate, you want to make sure that the plate is down or sitting down on top of our crossmember. We're gonna be placing it on the top. Three and a half inch bolt and we're gonna put a washer on it. We're gonna be bolting up through into our plate like this. Can't see it, you know where the hole is. We're gonna go up over the top, set it like this and line it up and we're gonna go up through the top and bolt it right to our nut plate.Next, with a 19 millimeter socket, you're gonna tighten all of your hardware. Then we're gonna go through and we're gonna torque all of our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. Now, per our instructions, on the inside of our bumper, the lower side, you need to measure over five inches and from there over an inch and a half and then down an inch and an half. What we need to do is we need to cut that square out. I'm gonna use a Dremel tool with a metal cutting blade and see how it works with this metal.Once you get your two squares cut out, it's a good idea to take a black paint marker, maybe even some spray paint, you might want to cover up these bolts, so when you do it and spray that bare metal just to reduce the risk of rusting later on.Now we'll reinstall our bumper. You have to make sure you have this wire pulled out for your fog lights. Before reinstalling your belly pan, you're gonna have to do some trimming. Per the instructions, they're only guidelines, but what they're gonna tell you to do is cut out from the very top down around like this and then up and across and then up and then cut out a square here or you can do it how I did it and just go a step farther.I like mine to look a little bit cleaner, so I started by having somebody hold it up and I drew a line on the inside to find out where these we're gonna hit, 'cause these stick out the farthest. I cut those out, slid it into place, where these we're kinda pushing on the plastic, I just took a drill bit and drilled right at those spots, where it just made the hole and then once I did that, I pushed it in farther. Where these we're touching, I took a long drill bit and drilled from the back straight through the center and than took a hole saw bit and then made my hole, so it looks a lot cleaner. The thing with this is, if this ever has to come off, these are gonna have to be opened up, 'cause you can't just slide it right off, it has to be kind of forced out. That's gonna do it for a look at and installation on our 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited.

The order to delivery time was excellent! 2 days to get to central PA. I just finished installing the RM base plate to my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport. We plan on towing the Jeep behind my motor home. The installation went smoothly and the Jeep looks great. You can barely tell that it is rigged to be towed. 560301

I installed this base plate on my 2016 Ford Focus Hatchback Titanium with the help of my friends auto lift. If you have a friend that has a lift it sure makes this job easier on the installer. Once installed it is barely visible while not towing. The two little tubes that stick out for towing are removed when not towing or installed for towing in about 15 seconds. Push in and turn 90 degrees to lock in for towing or reverse for not towing. Once these tubes are removed the front of the car looks normal if you werent looking for the receiver tube insert holes. 503823

The Roadmaster base plate I installed on my 2016 Ford Focus is still working perfectly as is my Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow bar. I also use the Falcon 2 Tow Bar for pulling my Jeep Unlimited 4 door.

Product arrived very quick. It is well made and came complete with all hardware and instructions. The only problem was that it has extra mounting plates for each side that doesn't show up on any of the videos. The instructions say if there isn't a hole on the outside of the frame on each side just to drill through from the inside to make the hole on the outside. There is barely enough room to get your hand in there let alone a drill. I lined up the lower holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the frame and marked the upper hole, drilled a pilot hole and checked the inside and adjusted accordingly then drilled the final hole. I like the fact that I can remove the tow arms so they are not shin busters. 518321

Product was perfect fit and seems very solid in it's construction and the way it mounts. I am completely satisfied with the product as i bought both the bracket kit and a wiring kit. The base plate kit should for this Jeep Liberty 2004 should have included the 6 outer bumper fascia attaching clips because these will break just about every time you take off the front bumper. Also they should supply you with a small tube of Loctite since you will always need it. So for the big price, they should throw this stuff in there but that's just my opinion. All in all great product, great folks to deal with and I will shop here again 474328

Although I haven't installed this item as yet, I want to comment on the service I received from the staff at etrailer. They were without a doubt, the most knowledgeable people I have ever dealt with, not only did they know this product, but they were well versed in its application, and how 2 different parts compared & what was unique to each one. They helped me make my decision, the part was ordered and shipped out the same day. That's the way to get customers coming back. And then on top of that the shipping was free. Wow ! Thank you etrailer, i'll be calling you again. 539793

With the included instructions, installation was easy. Now it takes me only a few minutes to totally hook up my dingy, & Im not filthy dirty, like i used to be, with the car dolly. I also find it easier to tow, since the vehicle profile isnt as wide.

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Until I received the follow up e-mail from Carrieann at etrailer.com, I had completely forgotten about these Roadmaster EZ5 baseplates on my 2007 Jeep Liberty. That sums up my experience and satisfaction. Once installed, I just want it to work and not cause problems that I have to think about or solve. The RM EZ5 has been easy to use and trouble free. If I were to nit-pick, installation was beyond my capabilities, tools and patience, even with the great eTrailer video. I paid a local shop $200 to install them which included using the proper tool to cut a smooth hole in the bumper cover. With the arms removed, it's hardly noticeable on the Jeep. Attaching the arms is quick and easy and connecting the tow bar is painless compared to other systems I've used in the past. Yes, they're a tad pricey but they cost less than having the towed go "walk-about" while underway. 419984

Absolutely great product. Installed as instructed without a problem primarily because of the video provided by etrailer on the website. Could not have done it as quickly and smoothly without that video. Roadmaster baseplate is very sturdy and does NOT require cutting the steel bumper mount flanged as the blue ox version does for my Jeep. Yet I can still use a blue ox tow bar with an inexpensive adapter on the ends. Very sturdy, quality setup. 345648

Product arrived very fast. Packaged well. I installed it as per instructions . Watching a video was a great h Ed lp after reading the instructions. Everything installed as expected. Took about 3 hours. I did drop a nut a nd could not find it so had my buddy run to hardware store to buy a 1/2 " nut and lock washer. I did not have access To a lift, So running the car up on blocks 4"high helped access The underside of the cowling. It was a challenge to get my fat finger holding a nut and washer into 2 tight spots but that is what I expect doing this type of installation. 572466

The product was exactly what I ordered and fit as easily as etrailer's very informative video tutorial showed that it would. The product was delivered before the expected date. And I was able to easily track the shipment. The best part of the etrailer experience was the extremely helpful staff member, Katie. My card had a problem going thru and Katie was as helpful in clearing that up as she was in assisting with the actual order. I will absolutely recommend etrailer to everyone. 253106

The parts arrived way sooner than expected (seems to be a hibit for e-trailer). Don't get me wrong that's excellent. As for the installation it went very smooth except for trying to lock the bolts in. place with the wire and red loctite took a bit of engineering and finding the right tool/screwdriver and a steel plate to keep the nut plate from spinning and got it to lock up tighten. Looks great and looks like part on the Jeep The taillight package was flawless and went in better than I expected... just enough cable between lights and to the front of the Jeep... 302066

This base plate was as described and relatively easy to install. I watched the installation video several times as I was concerned taking the bumper cover and grill off the CR-V. I also watched to installation video for the Blue Ox base plate as it was slightly different and showed taking the off as one piece instead of two. The process was a bit tricky and I did break one clip on the drivers side. Other than snapping my 1/2" drill bit while drilling the hole, the installation was relatively easy and as portrayed in the installation video. I also purchase two metric bolts as my vehicle had neither on the bottom of the bumper cover. 445763

Great experience, quick shipping, excellent video and instructional references to go along with the products. I did the installation of the product myself and without the text and instructional video's there is no way I would have been 100% successful. These are the extra value add things that make the difference when shopping with etrailer, I will be a return customer. The base plate is of high quality construction and fit perfectly on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I use this with the Falcon 2 tow bar for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler - 2014 Fleetwood Bounder motorhome combination. 339284

Roadmaster tow car wiring lights and fuse by-pass, came fine, in original packages. The Roadmaster EZ5 base plate came, but looked like it had gone through a war. Scratched, rubbed and bent at the electrical plug bracket tubes. Some of the hardware washers/bolts loose form the paking bag (had holes in it - shop warn?), and the box (Original Roadmaster box), was so beat up and full of holes that I am greatfullness the loose washers/bolt did not fall out. This part had obviously spent a lot of time, being kicked around some shop, before being taped back up and being sent back to the store. Wear should not affect merchantability. Shipping was very speedy. However, all that being said, it is still a great bargain. Your videos (on web) and instructions are great. 168823

Installation could/should have been great but... Instructions that came with kit were great. The problem was the base plate. When I got ready to lift it into place I checked the alignment of the 2 uprights and found they were not parallel and the unit would not fit around the outside of the frame. Had to do some creative engineering and was able to bend the outside plates so they finally slipped up the outside frame but there was still a lot of friction so getting everything aligned and in place so that the holes could drilled correctly was a major hassle. 202305

Product construction quality is very good, but it did not slip into place and I had to drill two holes in my stock 2010 Jeep's frame because the holes in the bracket were off by over two inches on both sides of the bracket. I called Roadmaster and they couldn't explain the holes not lining up with the stock frame holes or why it did not fit into place. Their suggestion to drive onto one end of the bracket and then pry on the other end to bend the bracket was not possible due to all the welded on bracket members. I ended up using the tire jack and a short board to apply pressure to widen the bracket the 1/8" needed to fit over my Jeeps frame. Had everything fit as advertised mounting would only take 1-2 hours with simple tools, as it was it took 5 hours with a trip into town to buy drill bits I didn't have in my motorhome's tool box. The bracket is well made and should work well, but taking on this project without a full shop available is risky and could lead you into a situation where your begging a commercial shop to mount your internet purchased bracket. 355229

Quality products, GREAT INSTRUCTIONS! The video on YouTube helped very much when installing the Road Master base plate on our 2013 Honda CR-V. Tips: The front fog lights can be disconnected much easier after the front bumber fascia is released and tilted forward... same when reinstalling. Also, the bottom clips on the front grill release very easy with the help of a small, curved push tool... I used a curved needle nose plier. Simply apply gentle pressure from the bottom of the opening, right below the clips, into the notches provided for this effort. 177426

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

From start to finish I probably had an hour thirty in this install. I tried multiple cutting tools for trimming the lower plastic panel. A good razor knife worked the best for me. After I loose fit the bar on my jeep, I took the plastic valance panel loose and let it hang on the tow bar. I was able to access the bottom bolts easier and use my screw driver to hold the inner flat nuts on the side ones easier as well. I had to clean the threads on the bottom flat plates which I wish I had seen before I started the assembly. All in all no biggie. My wiring bracket piping was bent in transit. I was able to bend them back in place and then up slightly to make it easier for me to plug in my motorhome harness. Great engineering. Simple process. I really like the way the tow bar sits under and slightly behind the front of the bumper. Clean set up. 229558

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

I did this installation for my mother- and father-in-law. The base plate is VERY heavy duty. It is welded very well and painted adequately. Being shipped in a cardboard box with little packaging, it arrived with paint worn off the little electrical connector mount tubes and other places. The fit was good except for that the top portions of the mounting plates (each end where the base plate is bolted to the car frame), that are bent horizontal for the top-most bolts, are not bent completely to a 90-degree angle--I had to wail on them with a mini-sledge to bend them over enough to be able to get the top bolts into the weld nuts on the car frame. Also, the instructions are vague or lacking in a number of ways. The instructions called out fasteners as "Phillips screw," "10mm (head) bolt" and "plastic fastener." Since I needed to gather tools to take with me for the 12.5 mile trip to my in-laws' place, I had to guess what the "plastic fasteners" were. I found out that the "plastic fasteners" were push rivets-- they are easiest to remove using two straight-blade screwdrivers. And step 7 of the instructions sets up a person to ruin some very expensive parts. Step 7 says to pull hard and straight out to release the grill from the two yellow clips near the headlights (which was OK) and the four yellow clips along the bottom of the grill (which was not OK). Those four yellow clips at the bottom of the grill each have four little retainer legs that clip into all four edges of the holes into which they clip. Instructions for other manufacturers products explain how to carefully unfasten those clips so as not to break anything. But the Roadmaster instructions say to just pull real hard. I found that those four lower clips don't have to be released (the grill does not need to be removed from the fascia) in order to release the two yellow clips shown in Figure M of the instructions--the installer need only pull back on each end of the grill, while it is still fastened to the the fascia by the four lower yellow clips, to be able to insert a flat-blade screwdriver between parts and release those yellow clips--the whole fascia and grill lifts off the vehicle at that point. In between the instructions for pulling the grill off and releasing the two yellow clips in Figure M is an instruction saying to "pull out on corner of the fascia to remove it from the locking strip as indicated by the yellow lines in Figure L..." What is not said in the instructions is that below those yellow lines shown in Figure L are seams between the ends of the fascia and the front fenders. Those seams contain snap-and-hook features molded into the plastic parts which, if just yanked apart, will break (I know this because I broke them on one side). The snap-and-hook features can be released by carefully pulling the fascia away from the fender, to expose the features, and then using a straight blade screwdriver to push each of the three hooks out of their mating snaps--nothing gets broken (I know this because I did it successfully). Other then those things, the installation was pretty straight-forward. I don't know how well the product works because I only did the installation yesterday and my in-laws won't try using it until next week. 229996

It arrived in a timely manner was easy to install. My son and I did it in about 2 hours. Perfect fit the plug mounting studs were slightly bent during shipment but easily straightened. The wiring harness took much longer to install but I’m kind of pickie. I was able to feed inside the frame from front to back. Thanks for a great looking product. 476994

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

First I'd like to provide a few comments on e-trailer. I'm a return customer, and will continue to be. The price was right, the delivery was really fast, and the kit arrived with all the parts, and in pristine condition. The big, heavy, part of this kit was well-packed, and even the little metal prongs on the front arrived undamaged. I took the time to watch the e-trailer installation video but it appears that the kit they used in the demo had some minor configuration differences from that delivered. That wasn't really an issue, since the directions in the kit were consistent with the configuration of my kit. But now, about the kit. I installed a previous version Roadmaster base plate kit on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport. It took me about an hour. This "new, improved" version... about six hours, spread over two days. Some was my fault, some bad directions, and some just bad luck, but the design of the kit was not user-installation-friendly, or an improvement of any kind over the older design. First, the new kit has both brackets connected by a large, beefy, bar. Great, except trying to get everything to line up is now much harder since the flanges on the kit are barrrrely wide enough to slip over the frame extensions on the Jeep. If you're off even a hair, they bind and you can't line up the bolt holes. And, with the brackets all in one piece, BOTH sides have to be lined up simultaneously. Lining up the bolt holes by tapping alternate sides with a hammer (my solution) works, but it sure is tedious. Oh, and there is a metal tab on the back side of the bar, behind the wiring prongs (not sure why it's there, maybe it serves a purpose on some other vehicle installation?). This tab is located in an EXTREMELY inconvenient location as, in addition to the problems lining up the bolt holes in the tight-fitting flanges on the frame extensions, you have to slide this tab through a little slot that you cut in the air dam. I found it easiest to NOT attach ANY of the air dam fasteners until I had at least one bolt on each side started. I just hung the air dam on this tab, jacked the whole thing into place, fiddled and hammered until I got a couple bolt holes lined up, and THEN fastened the air dam back in place. So far, the installation was just irritating and tedious, but no worse than some other auto repair work one might undertake. Now comes the "bad directions" part. Roadmaster includes some nuts with little wires tacked on so you can hold the nut in place on the blind side of the frame while you run the bolts in to snug them up. I found it useful to run those bolts through the nuts BEFORE doing anything to clear out the paint on the nut threads so they'll start a little easier. The Roadmaster directions supplied with the kit are VERY SPECIFIC (Step 5), stating that the LOWER nut should be put in place first, and then the UPPER. Since the access is through an opening in the UNDERSIDE of the frame, putting the lower bolt in first blocks access to the upper bolt. I followed the instructions on the first side and that is EXACTLY what happened, causing a significant problem. Since my access to the upper bolt was blocked by the installed lower one, I had to twist and fiddle the upper nut into place. When I started to tighten, the little holder wire bent around the lower bolt, and then broke, before nut had not yet snugged down. If you should find yourself in this awkward position, the quickest and simplest solution is to remove the plastic cover from above the frame - right in front of the grill, where a winch would normally mount - and go in from the top with a wrench to grab that spinning nut. When I installed the bolts on the other side, I did the upper one first, and then the lower, and had no such problems. Once you get them snugged down, they'll pretty much hold themselves so you can torque to the proper spec, and you're done. All in all, this install was MANY times more difficult than the original Roadmaster TWO-PIECE base plate kit for the Jeep Wrangler. Additionally, I don't particularly like the new design anyway, beyond the more difficult install. The huge bar that connects the two brackets (that are independent on the older design) sticks down lower, and reduces clearance in the front a bit. The "EZ twist locks" on the brackets themselves ARE easy to install, though because of clearance with the bar in the kit I have, have to be installed upside down compared with the etrailer video demo. While easy to install, the new hitch point brackets offer no obvious positive visual cue that one can quickly look at when you're hitching up to confirm that they're locked. I guess I'll get used to that, but I don't like it. Though I suppose Roadmaster has done the design work, the new "twist lock" brackets also don't look nearly as durable as the old ones, which simply used a hitch pin to secure the bracket to the piece attached to the frame extension. A MUCH harder install, and a less obviously robust attachment system than the previous design leaves me wondering where the improvement is in the new design. I already owned a Roadmaster tow bar (and like it), so I didn't have much choice. I've towed my new 2016 Jeep with the new bracket, and got back with the Jeep still securely attached to the tow vehicle, so it DOES work. 259161

Shipped quickly and arrived in pristine condition. The plate installation was pretty straightforward with all holes lining up perfectly. What I like most is the ease and convenience of adding/removing the arms. We have approx. 17k miles towing a Wrangler Unlimited behind a class A rv and have not had a single issue. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. 572737

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

The product was what I expected and the instructions both written and on-line are easy to follow. My only beef is the way it was packaged, one foam fitting pad on each end, the tow bar pins were loose and caused considerable dings and scratches on the base plate during shipping but some black spray paint made quick work of that. My suggestion would be to ship the item with more foam fit pads and wrap and secure the tow bar pins with zip ties or something. 418112

Comments

No problems yet, the installation was easy and they went on without any modifications.

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Roadmaster EZ-5 base plate install on 2012 Chevy Sonic. My wife and I completed the install in about 5 hours. The Roadmaster directions are good but skip from step 5 to step 7. There should be a step 6 that describes how to pull the bumper cover away from the fender without ruining the slots on the bumper cover that match tabs on the lower part of the fender. We went to the etrailer install video to see how they removed the bumper cover. We did just what the video showed and ended up tearing the slots so now the bumper cover sticks out a little at the front of the fender. The fit of the EZ-5 base plate was very good. Cutting the lower grill for the tow bar adapters was fairly easy and doesn't look too bad. The kit was missing a couple of the 1/2" washers, otherwise a complete kit. We are happy with our install and saved hundreds of dollars doing the work ourselves. 237199

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Hi, I purchased a Roadmaster 524438-5 EZ 5 base plate from you. The installation was straight forward except there was a nut welded onto the inside of the driver side frame rail. I couldn't chisel it off so I had to expand the lower and upper bolt holes to accommodate the slightly off kilter angle of the bracket. Hopefully the pictures I provided will show the situation. The end product is very nice looking. Much better than the previous bracket on my '05 PT Cruiser. 409933
