Note: Roadmaster direct-connect base plates will only work with Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch, such as the Sterling, Blackhawk, Blackhawk 2, Falcon, or Falcon 2. These base plates will not work with tow bars that require a hitch ball.

The drawbars, or front arms, on this base plate kit are supremely easy to mount and remove. Just insert them into the brackets and twist to lock them in place. To remove each arm, simply tug the built-in pull pin to disengage the lock, twist the arm back and pull it out of the bracket. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit Installation - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today on this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster EZ5 Baseplate Kit with Removable Arms, part number RM-521440-5. Here's what your baseplate looks like installed. What many of our customers really like about this baseplate is when they're not towing their vehicle and they have the removable arms removed from the baseplate, it provides a very clean look on the front of their Grand Cherokee. Hardly anything sticks out from it at all. Our safety cable attachment point here doesn't even stick out past our license plate bracket on the front of it so it doesn't add any length to the vehicle. The baseplate itself is very versatile. With it's removable arms, you can quickly and easily attach to your motorhome using virtually any Roadmaster tow bar on the market.

As you notice, when you insert it you have this tab at a horizontal angle, stick it in, push, rotate it 90 degrees and then our spring-loaded pin will lock it into place so it can't rotate out.Another great feature about this baseplate is that it does come with an attachment point for any electrical connection that we may have. So if you want to have a towed vehicle lighting system we can attach that to these prongs here and if we're using a supplemental braking system, which I highly recommend to do, we have several options available on our website, you can mount your break away switch as well. For this particular flat tow set up, we used a Roadmaster EZ5 Baseplate Kit; a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar; the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit for our lighting system; and, for our supplemental braking system, we used the SMI Air Force One for Motor Homes with Air Brakes. Now depending upon your application, you may or may not need to get a high low adapter to ensure that your tow bar's at the proper height between the motor home and your towed vehicle. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we have our hood open. Now we need to remove two clips on the top of our fascia where it connects to our core support.

We'll have one on each corner of it, one right here and the other right here. The way these work is that there's a center section here that you can get underneath with a flathead screwdriver or a trim panel tool. Pop it up and you can go underneath the entire clip and the entire clip will pop out. Now, on each side in our wheel well we'll find two plastic rivets that attach our wheel molding to our fascia. We need to drill out these rivets, so we'll take a small drill bit and go through the center.

With them drilled out, we can now take our trim panel tool and pull out the rivet. We'll do the same process on the other side. With our rivets drilled out we can now remove this 10-millimeter bolt right here. We'll grab our wheel molding here and pull out towards us, just like that. You may have a clip that gets stuck there. Not a problem.

We'll just take a trim panel tool, get behind the clip, remove it, and we'll slide it back inside our molding into the spot where it clips into. Now we're underneath looking up at our wheel well. It's the same on both sides, so just keep in mind everything we do on one side we'll do on the other. We have a plastic fastener here, we'll twist this, pull it out, and then there's a 10-millimeter bolt right here that we'll remove as well. Now underneath where our fascia meets our core support and our splash shield we'll have three 10-millimeter bolts, three twist-style plastic fasteners, and one push plastic fastener to remove. Okay now underneath where our splash shield's bolted to our sub frame, we'll have two 13-millimeter bolts to remove. Pull it down and towards the back and we can set it aside. With an extra set of hands we'll remove our fascia. We'll start by coming over to our corner here where it meets our fender, and pulling back away from the vehicle. As we get to near where our headlight is, we'll pull up where it meets the core support. Once we have it unclipped, we pull it back away from the vehicle, where we'll see our fog lights. Your vehicle may not be equipped with these, but if they are just pull on these two tabs here and wiggle the connector down away from the bulb. With everything disconnected, we'll now set it aside where it won't get damaged. If your vehicle has an auxiliary transmission cooler like this one does, you'll need to take one of the supplied zip ties and connect these two hoses together for gaining clearance. We'll go to the left side of this crimp right here and we will pull the hoses as tight together as possible. Now we'll take our two remaining zip ties, combine them together to make it extra long, we'll go around this bracket on the backside between the two hoses, we'll go through our zip tie here, they go together, and then we'll wrap it together and we'll pull tight.Since our vehicle's not equipped with tow hooks, this install is a little bit different than if yours has tow hooks on it. If you have those tow hooks, you need to follow the instructions for that side. But right now, we need to remove this 13-millimeter bolt right here. It's right above where our bottom of our core support meets the vertical part of it. Now I'll point out two of our attachment points. We have a weld nut here at the front of our frame rail. And then one further to the back. These are where your factory tow hooks would bolt if your vehicle's equipped with them. We'll take the 13-millimeter bolt that we just removed and we'll place some red Loctite on it. We'll be using red Loctite on all of our bolts that we use for our baseplate. We'll take our baseplate, stick it in position, and we'll loosely thread in that 13-millimeter bolt for the time being to help support our baseplate.Where our baseplate's going to bolt to the factory weld nuts in the frame, we'll use these long metric bolts with a lock washer and a flat washer. Place our Loctite on. Put the baseplate in position and then we'll thread it in place. We'll go ahead and snug down all of our hardware now. Now we'll take our wall pipe spacer, we'll slide it between our bumper beam and our baseplate, and this is on the outside edge of it. We'll take one of our half inch bolts, our lock washer, one of our smaller half inch washers, put some Loctite on it, we'll go up through our baseplate. Inside our bumper beam we'll place on one of our larger diameter half inch washers, and we'll thread on a nut. We'll leave this loose for the time being. Now we'll go ahead and snug that bolt down. You'll need to use wrenches to do this because you can't get in there with a socket. Okay, now, the inside edge of our baseplate for the inner hole here, we need to drill center through that up into our bumper beam. We'll start by making a small pilot hole and then we'll enlarge that hole to the appropriate size indicated in the instructions. With our hole drilled now to the final size, we'll now slide our pipe spacer between our baseplate and the bumper beam. Use a screwdriver to line it up. Make sure our bolt goes through the spacer smoothly, and it does. Now we'll take our crosspiece here that our wiring harness can attach to. If you're not installing a towed vehicle lighting system or break away switch or anything, you don't need this piece. But since we are, we're going to be using it. We'll take one of our half inch bolts with a lock washer and a flat washer on it, go through that crosspiece, our baseplate, our pipe spacer and in to the bumper beam. You can see where our bolt comes through our bumper beam now. We'll take our handle nut, we'll still that into our bumper beam, and we'll thread our bolt into that. Now we'll go ahead and tighten that bolt up. We'll repeat the same process for our passenger side. Now we'll torque all of our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Now while we have our fascia off, this is a good opportunity to mount any break away switches we may have for our supplemental braking system, and run any wiring we have for a towed vehicle lighting system. We attached our break away switch to our mounting bracket using the provided hardware with our break away switch, to the mounting hole. And our four pole flat wiring we ran inside the provided wire loom with it, and both of these wires will run behind the fascia and they'll come up through a gap here and then go into our engine compartment where they come up right in this area here. Now we're looking at the inside edge of our fascia. If our vehicle has tow hook, we don't need to worry about this part. But, if you don't, you'll have a cover where your factory tow hooks would go. We can pop these out simply by pressing in on these tabs and they'll pop out the front. We'll do the same on both sides. Now we have our fascia back with an extra set of hands and we will make sure we plug back in our fog lights and we'll reinstall the fascia. With our fascia snapped back into place now, you'll notice that we need to do a little trimming in our grille section here for our break away switch and our electrical connector. We'll just use a pair of side cutters to remove the excess plastic that will interfere with those. Here's what it looks like trimmed out. We'll have plenty of access for our break away switch to work properly and our electrical connector that we'll be using will fit in here nicely and we'll be able to open our door fully without any interference. Now since we drilled out our factory rivets, our baseplate comes with replacement rivets. The way these work, you just insert them in the hole and you'll use a plastic rivet gun which you can find at most autobody supply shops, you stick that over the end of it and then you just work the rivet off. That's riveted in place. That completes our look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster EZ5 Baseplate Kit with Removable Arms, part number RM-521440-5, on this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Well so far the base plate has been received and packaging was excellent as was speed of shipment. I have not yet put it on the Grand Cherokee - a bit too much snow. So as soon I complete that job I'll do a follow up post with some pictures. 351462

Although I haven't installed this item as yet, I want to comment on the service I received from the staff at etrailer. They were without a doubt, the most knowledgeable people I have ever dealt with, not only did they know this product, but they were well versed in its application, and how 2 different parts compared & what was unique to each one. They helped me make my decision, the part was ordered and shipped out the same day. That's the way to get customers coming back. And then on top of that the shipping was free. Wow ! Thank you etrailer, i'll be calling you again. 539793

With the included instructions, installation was easy. Now it takes me only a few minutes to totally hook up my dingy, & Im not filthy dirty, like i used to be, with the car dolly. I also find it easier to tow, since the vehicle profile isnt as wide.

I chose the Roadmaster EZ5 base plate for my 2018 Colorado because its connection height would work better with my motorhome's hitch height. Installation was fairly straightforward but I found the supplied instructions lacking in a few areas. Although it took me far longer than the advertised 3 hours ... I believe the installation went well and should work well. This is my 5th baseplate install and this one went smoothly and the quality of the equipment seems fine. 666098

Product arrived very quick. It is well made and came complete with all hardware and instructions. The only problem was that it has extra mounting plates for each side that doesn't show up on any of the videos. The instructions say if there isn't a hole on the outside of the frame on each side just to drill through from the inside to make the hole on the outside. There is barely enough room to get your hand in there let alone a drill. I lined up the lower holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the frame and marked the upper hole, drilled a pilot hole and checked the inside and adjusted accordingly then drilled the final hole. I like the fact that I can remove the tow arms so they are not shin busters. 518321

The order to delivery time was excellent! 2 days to get to central PA. I just finished installing the RM base plate to my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport. We plan on towing the Jeep behind my motor home. The installation went smoothly and the Jeep looks great. You can barely tell that it is rigged to be towed. 560301

Product was perfect fit and seems very solid in it's construction and the way it mounts. I am completely satisfied with the product as i bought both the bracket kit and a wiring kit. The base plate kit should for this Jeep Liberty 2004 should have included the 6 outer bumper fascia attaching clips because these will break just about every time you take off the front bumper. Also they should supply you with a small tube of Loctite since you will always need it. So for the big price, they should throw this stuff in there but that's just my opinion. All in all great product, great folks to deal with and I will shop here again 474328

This base plate was as described and relatively easy to install. I watched the installation video several times as I was concerned taking the bumper cover and grill off the CR-V. I also watched to installation video for the Blue Ox base plate as it was slightly different and showed taking the off as one piece instead of two. The process was a bit tricky and I did break one clip on the drivers side. Other than snapping my 1/2" drill bit while drilling the hole, the installation was relatively easy and as portrayed in the installation video. I also purchase two metric bolts as my vehicle had neither on the bottom of the bumper cover. 445763

Absolutely great product. Installed as instructed without a problem primarily because of the video provided by etrailer on the website. Could not have done it as quickly and smoothly without that video. Roadmaster baseplate is very sturdy and does NOT require cutting the steel bumper mount flanged as the blue ox version does for my Jeep. Yet I can still use a blue ox tow bar with an inexpensive adapter on the ends. Very sturdy, quality setup. 345648

Product arrived very fast. Packaged well. I installed it as per instructions . Watching a video was a great h Ed lp after reading the instructions. Everything installed as expected. Took about 3 hours. I did drop a nut a nd could not find it so had my buddy run to hardware store to buy a 1/2 " nut and lock washer. I did not have access To a lift, So running the car up on blocks 4"high helped access The underside of the cowling. It was a challenge to get my fat finger holding a nut and washer into 2 tight spots but that is what I expect doing this type of installation. 572466

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Until I received the follow up e-mail from Carrieann at etrailer.com, I had completely forgotten about these Roadmaster EZ5 baseplates on my 2007 Jeep Liberty. That sums up my experience and satisfaction. Once installed, I just want it to work and not cause problems that I have to think about or solve. The RM EZ5 has been easy to use and trouble free. If I were to nit-pick, installation was beyond my capabilities, tools and patience, even with the great eTrailer video. I paid a local shop $200 to install them which included using the proper tool to cut a smooth hole in the bumper cover. With the arms removed, it's hardly noticeable on the Jeep. Attaching the arms is quick and easy and connecting the tow bar is painless compared to other systems I've used in the past. Yes, they're a tad pricey but they cost less than having the towed go "walk-about" while underway. 419984

The product was exactly what I ordered and fit as easily as etrailer's very informative video tutorial showed that it would. The product was delivered before the expected date. And I was able to easily track the shipment. The best part of the etrailer experience was the extremely helpful staff member, Katie. My card had a problem going thru and Katie was as helpful in clearing that up as she was in assisting with the actual order. I will absolutely recommend etrailer to everyone. 253106

I installed this base plate on my 2016 Ford Focus Hatchback Titanium with the help of my friends auto lift. If you have a friend that has a lift it sure makes this job easier on the installer. Once installed it is barely visible while not towing. The two little tubes that stick out for towing are removed when not towing or installed for towing in about 15 seconds. Push in and turn 90 degrees to lock in for towing or reverse for not towing. Once these tubes are removed the front of the car looks normal if you werent looking for the receiver tube insert holes. 503823

The Roadmaster base plate I installed on my 2016 Ford Focus is still working perfectly as is my Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow bar. I also use the Falcon 2 Tow Bar for pulling my Jeep Unlimited 4 door.

The parts arrived way sooner than expected (seems to be a hibit for e-trailer). Don't get me wrong that's excellent. As for the installation it went very smooth except for trying to lock the bolts in. place with the wire and red loctite took a bit of engineering and finding the right tool/screwdriver and a steel plate to keep the nut plate from spinning and got it to lock up tighten. Looks great and looks like part on the Jeep The taillight package was flawless and went in better than I expected... just enough cable between lights and to the front of the Jeep... 302066

Great experience, quick shipping, excellent video and instructional references to go along with the products. I did the installation of the product myself and without the text and instructional video's there is no way I would have been 100% successful. These are the extra value add things that make the difference when shopping with etrailer, I will be a return customer. The base plate is of high quality construction and fit perfectly on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I use this with the Falcon 2 tow bar for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler - 2014 Fleetwood Bounder motorhome combination. 339284

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Roadmaster tow car wiring lights and fuse by-pass, came fine, in original packages. The Roadmaster EZ5 base plate came, but looked like it had gone through a war. Scratched, rubbed and bent at the electrical plug bracket tubes. Some of the hardware washers/bolts loose form the paking bag (had holes in it - shop warn?), and the box (Original Roadmaster box), was so beat up and full of holes that I am greatfullness the loose washers/bolt did not fall out. This part had obviously spent a lot of time, being kicked around some shop, before being taped back up and being sent back to the store. Wear should not affect merchantability. Shipping was very speedy. However, all that being said, it is still a great bargain. Your videos (on web) and instructions are great. 168823

Installation could/should have been great but... Instructions that came with kit were great. The problem was the base plate. When I got ready to lift it into place I checked the alignment of the 2 uprights and found they were not parallel and the unit would not fit around the outside of the frame. Had to do some creative engineering and was able to bend the outside plates so they finally slipped up the outside frame but there was still a lot of friction so getting everything aligned and in place so that the holes could drilled correctly was a major hassle. 202305

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Product construction quality is very good, but it did not slip into place and I had to drill two holes in my stock 2010 Jeep's frame because the holes in the bracket were off by over two inches on both sides of the bracket. I called Roadmaster and they couldn't explain the holes not lining up with the stock frame holes or why it did not fit into place. Their suggestion to drive onto one end of the bracket and then pry on the other end to bend the bracket was not possible due to all the welded on bracket members. I ended up using the tire jack and a short board to apply pressure to widen the bracket the 1/8" needed to fit over my Jeeps frame. Had everything fit as advertised mounting would only take 1-2 hours with simple tools, as it was it took 5 hours with a trip into town to buy drill bits I didn't have in my motorhome's tool box. The bracket is well made and should work well, but taking on this project without a full shop available is risky and could lead you into a situation where your begging a commercial shop to mount your internet purchased bracket. 355229

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

First I'd like to provide a few comments on e-trailer. I'm a return customer, and will continue to be. The price was right, the delivery was really fast, and the kit arrived with all the parts, and in pristine condition. The big, heavy, part of this kit was well-packed, and even the little metal prongs on the front arrived undamaged. I took the time to watch the e-trailer installation video but it appears that the kit they used in the demo had some minor configuration differences from that delivered. That wasn't really an issue, since the directions in the kit were consistent with the configuration of my kit. But now, about the kit. I installed a previous version Roadmaster base plate kit on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport. It took me about an hour. This "new, improved" version... about six hours, spread over two days. Some was my fault, some bad directions, and some just bad luck, but the design of the kit was not user-installation-friendly, or an improvement of any kind over the older design. First, the new kit has both brackets connected by a large, beefy, bar. Great, except trying to get everything to line up is now much harder since the flanges on the kit are barrrrely wide enough to slip over the frame extensions on the Jeep. If you're off even a hair, they bind and you can't line up the bolt holes. And, with the brackets all in one piece, BOTH sides have to be lined up simultaneously. Lining up the bolt holes by tapping alternate sides with a hammer (my solution) works, but it sure is tedious. Oh, and there is a metal tab on the back side of the bar, behind the wiring prongs (not sure why it's there, maybe it serves a purpose on some other vehicle installation?). This tab is located in an EXTREMELY inconvenient location as, in addition to the problems lining up the bolt holes in the tight-fitting flanges on the frame extensions, you have to slide this tab through a little slot that you cut in the air dam. I found it easiest to NOT attach ANY of the air dam fasteners until I had at least one bolt on each side started. I just hung the air dam on this tab, jacked the whole thing into place, fiddled and hammered until I got a couple bolt holes lined up, and THEN fastened the air dam back in place. So far, the installation was just irritating and tedious, but no worse than some other auto repair work one might undertake. Now comes the "bad directions" part. Roadmaster includes some nuts with little wires tacked on so you can hold the nut in place on the blind side of the frame while you run the bolts in to snug them up. I found it useful to run those bolts through the nuts BEFORE doing anything to clear out the paint on the nut threads so they'll start a little easier. The Roadmaster directions supplied with the kit are VERY SPECIFIC (Step 5), stating that the LOWER nut should be put in place first, and then the UPPER. Since the access is through an opening in the UNDERSIDE of the frame, putting the lower bolt in first blocks access to the upper bolt. I followed the instructions on the first side and that is EXACTLY what happened, causing a significant problem. Since my access to the upper bolt was blocked by the installed lower one, I had to twist and fiddle the upper nut into place. When I started to tighten, the little holder wire bent around the lower bolt, and then broke, before nut had not yet snugged down. If you should find yourself in this awkward position, the quickest and simplest solution is to remove the plastic cover from above the frame - right in front of the grill, where a winch would normally mount - and go in from the top with a wrench to grab that spinning nut. When I installed the bolts on the other side, I did the upper one first, and then the lower, and had no such problems. Once you get them snugged down, they'll pretty much hold themselves so you can torque to the proper spec, and you're done. All in all, this install was MANY times more difficult than the original Roadmaster TWO-PIECE base plate kit for the Jeep Wrangler. Additionally, I don't particularly like the new design anyway, beyond the more difficult install. The huge bar that connects the two brackets (that are independent on the older design) sticks down lower, and reduces clearance in the front a bit. The "EZ twist locks" on the brackets themselves ARE easy to install, though because of clearance with the bar in the kit I have, have to be installed upside down compared with the etrailer video demo. While easy to install, the new hitch point brackets offer no obvious positive visual cue that one can quickly look at when you're hitching up to confirm that they're locked. I guess I'll get used to that, but I don't like it. Though I suppose Roadmaster has done the design work, the new "twist lock" brackets also don't look nearly as durable as the old ones, which simply used a hitch pin to secure the bracket to the piece attached to the frame extension. A MUCH harder install, and a less obviously robust attachment system than the previous design leaves me wondering where the improvement is in the new design. I already owned a Roadmaster tow bar (and like it), so I didn't have much choice. I've towed my new 2016 Jeep with the new bracket, and got back with the Jeep still securely attached to the tow vehicle, so it DOES work. 259161

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

From start to finish I probably had an hour thirty in this install. I tried multiple cutting tools for trimming the lower plastic panel. A good razor knife worked the best for me. After I loose fit the bar on my jeep, I took the plastic valance panel loose and let it hang on the tow bar. I was able to access the bottom bolts easier and use my screw driver to hold the inner flat nuts on the side ones easier as well. I had to clean the threads on the bottom flat plates which I wish I had seen before I started the assembly. All in all no biggie. My wiring bracket piping was bent in transit. I was able to bend them back in place and then up slightly to make it easier for me to plug in my motorhome harness. Great engineering. Simple process. I really like the way the tow bar sits under and slightly behind the front of the bumper. Clean set up. 229558

Shipped quickly and arrived in pristine condition. The plate installation was pretty straightforward with all holes lining up perfectly. What I like most is the ease and convenience of adding/removing the arms. We have approx. 17k miles towing a Wrangler Unlimited behind a class A rv and have not had a single issue. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. 572737

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

I did this installation for my mother- and father-in-law. The base plate is VERY heavy duty. It is welded very well and painted adequately. Being shipped in a cardboard box with little packaging, it arrived with paint worn off the little electrical connector mount tubes and other places. The fit was good except for that the top portions of the mounting plates (each end where the base plate is bolted to the car frame), that are bent horizontal for the top-most bolts, are not bent completely to a 90-degree angle--I had to wail on them with a mini-sledge to bend them over enough to be able to get the top bolts into the weld nuts on the car frame. Also, the instructions are vague or lacking in a number of ways. The instructions called out fasteners as "Phillips screw," "10mm (head) bolt" and "plastic fastener." Since I needed to gather tools to take with me for the 12.5 mile trip to my in-laws' place, I had to guess what the "plastic fasteners" were. I found out that the "plastic fasteners" were push rivets-- they are easiest to remove using two straight-blade screwdrivers. And step 7 of the instructions sets up a person to ruin some very expensive parts. Step 7 says to pull hard and straight out to release the grill from the two yellow clips near the headlights (which was OK) and the four yellow clips along the bottom of the grill (which was not OK). Those four yellow clips at the bottom of the grill each have four little retainer legs that clip into all four edges of the holes into which they clip. Instructions for other manufacturers products explain how to carefully unfasten those clips so as not to break anything. But the Roadmaster instructions say to just pull real hard. I found that those four lower clips don't have to be released (the grill does not need to be removed from the fascia) in order to release the two yellow clips shown in Figure M of the instructions--the installer need only pull back on each end of the grill, while it is still fastened to the the fascia by the four lower yellow clips, to be able to insert a flat-blade screwdriver between parts and release those yellow clips--the whole fascia and grill lifts off the vehicle at that point. In between the instructions for pulling the grill off and releasing the two yellow clips in Figure M is an instruction saying to "pull out on corner of the fascia to remove it from the locking strip as indicated by the yellow lines in Figure L..." What is not said in the instructions is that below those yellow lines shown in Figure L are seams between the ends of the fascia and the front fenders. Those seams contain snap-and-hook features molded into the plastic parts which, if just yanked apart, will break (I know this because I broke them on one side). The snap-and-hook features can be released by carefully pulling the fascia away from the fender, to expose the features, and then using a straight blade screwdriver to push each of the three hooks out of their mating snaps--nothing gets broken (I know this because I did it successfully). Other then those things, the installation was pretty straight-forward. I don't know how well the product works because I only did the installation yesterday and my in-laws won't try using it until next week. 229996

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Roadmaster EZ-5 base plate install on 2012 Chevy Sonic. My wife and I completed the install in about 5 hours. The Roadmaster directions are good but skip from step 5 to step 7. There should be a step 6 that describes how to pull the bumper cover away from the fender without ruining the slots on the bumper cover that match tabs on the lower part of the fender. We went to the etrailer install video to see how they removed the bumper cover. We did just what the video showed and ended up tearing the slots so now the bumper cover sticks out a little at the front of the fender. The fit of the EZ-5 base plate was very good. Cutting the lower grill for the tow bar adapters was fairly easy and doesn't look too bad. The kit was missing a couple of the 1/2" washers, otherwise a complete kit. We are happy with our install and saved hundreds of dollars doing the work ourselves. 237199

It arrived in a timely manner was easy to install. My son and I did it in about 2 hours. Perfect fit the plug mounting studs were slightly bent during shipment but easily straightened. The wiring harness took much longer to install but I’m kind of pickie. I was able to feed inside the frame from front to back. Thanks for a great looking product. 476994

I really like the way the couplers that connect to the towbard are removable and easily stowed. Great improvement over the old bar. Installation took me all day but the instructions were clear; the biggest problem I had was putting the pieces of the fender back together. I highly recommend (for a Honda CR-V at least) you get the plastic fender parts since the ones you will take out break. No complaints about the tow bar; worked great. 704735

Review from a similar Roadmaster EZ5 in Base Plates

Excellent attention to detail on my phone order and the shipping was prompt. I have access to an automotive lift and I highly recommend its use. Ford didn't make this an easy task on its Explorer, including installing the universal tail light wiring kit it took me and a willing son-in-law about 8 hours to complete. Only minor grill trimming required for access to arm mount receivers and safety cable eyes. The bolt-up of baseplate was straight forward after drilling the frame and securing the mounting brackets. The weld nuts made a simple task of bolting those brackets. I'm fairly handy with a slightly above-average tool collection but if that is not the case, a professional installation by a garage, RV service center, or body shop would be a good call. Took the rig and Explorer out for a test tow and found everything secure and solid. I'm 65-years old and crawling around under the front bumper is not as easy as it used to be. The bayonette-style removeable arms with the spring-pin locks make connecting and disconnecting to my Falcon2 bar a stand-up pleasure. Well designed and well thought out. Every part/fastener is included. 704351
