Simple, Tabless Design

Setting up these tabless base plates for use with your Demco tow bar is fast and easy. Just remove the attachment lugs from the ends of your tow bar arms and replace them with these tabs. Then you can just insert the tow bar arms into the base plate receivers to hook up. There's no need to remove the tabs from your tow bar, so you won't run the risk of misplacing tabs. And because the tabs remain on your tow bar at all times instead of protruding from your vehicle, your car maintains a clean look when it's not being towed.

Easy Hookup and Disconnect

Demco Base Plate Tabless Hookup

Using the Demco Tabless base plates to attach and remove your tow bar couldn't be easier. With the base plate tabs attached to your tow bar arms, simply insert the tabs into the receivers on your vehicle and twist to lock them in place. Insert the included pull pins to add an extra layer of security, ensuring the tabs stay put. To remove each arm, simply tug the pull pin to disengage the lock, twist the tow bar arm, and pull the tab out of the bracket.

Receiver Covers

Demco Base Plate Tabless Pull Ear Cover

Keep dirt and debris out of the base plate receivers with the included covers. These high-density polyethylene covers easily snap into place over each pull point when your tow bar is not attached. Limiting internal corrosion makes it easier to slide the tabs in and out and helps to prevent seizing so that the tabs don't get stuck.

Tow Bar Adapters

If you have a Demco Kwik-Tow tow bar or a tow bar from a different manufacturer, an adapter may be available. Demco makes adapters for use with other tow bars so that you don't have to go through the added hassle and expense of replacing your tow bar when outfitting your new towed car with base plates.

Video Transcript for Review of Demco Base Plates - Removable Drawbars - DM9519318

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at etrailer.com. We just wanted to go over quickly the Demco tabless base plate. This is designed to work with the 18 and 19 Ford expedition, 15 to 19 F150s and 17 to 19 Raptors. Of course, use our fit guide anytime you're getting a custom fit part like this, just to ensure it's going to work for your application. But, what this does is, essentially, it provides us a connection point for our tow bar. This is for a flat tow set up, so you're going to be hauling your F150 or Expedition behind your motor home, and we need a good solid connection point on that F-150 or Expedition so we can haul it safely.

This has been designed to do just that. It's going to give us, what they call, a tabless connection. So this part we're going to connect to the tow bar. That's one of the other components you'll need, and we're going to go over all the five main components, closer to the end of the video. But, we connect this onto our tow bar here, and then, it allows us to, let me get this cap out of the way. This allows us to take the arm of our tow bar, place it in the receiver and rotate it so the holes line up, and then we just slide in our pin.

Our connection, at that point, is made and, with that connected to our motor home, with the rest of our components, again, we'll go over those, we're able to safely tow.Now since this is custom fit, it's designed for the weight of your Expedition or your F150 so you don't have to worry about whether it's strong enough for anything like that. Really, as far as base plates go, this is one of the easier ones that you'll ever install. This is going to take the place of our tow hooks on the front of the vehicle. So, we'll take those out, we place these in, unlike a lot of other tow bars, that are out there that require you to drill a lot of holes. This one requires you to drill one half inch hole on each side.

It's going to be for our rear most hole location here. Let me pop this out. Rear most hole location right here, but this one and this one are already there from the factory, so it's not something you have to worry about. Also, included in the kit, when you take these out, this is going to be connected to your tow bar, so you're not going to misplace these. That's something that happens a lot of times. Roadmaster offers their EZ5, when you just put that in, rotate it and it gives you your connection point but, if you misplace those, you can't make the connection, and it leads you to a problem.

Whereas, with this one, those are going to remain with our tow bar, and then, we've got the caps that are going to plug in the end, keeps these free from debris and also gives us a really nice clean look on the front. We don't have big lugs that are sticking out there that will attach to just going to give you a really nice, clean look when not in use, which is important.Vehicles nowadays are really nice looking and we don't want to add a bunch of stuff to the front to make it less appealing. Also, with the baseplate kit you are going to get your wiring bracket. This is going to mount right up underneath the front there, generally, mounted to the bumper somewhere. Then you can put your wiring in here. Wiring's another important part of the flat tow setup and again we'll talk about that in a minute. It's also going to have your safety chains. Now these are not for connecting from the motor home to the vehicle. These are for giving us extra protection for our base plate connection points, to the frame of the truck or the frame of the Expedition. Basically, these are going to go around the frame connection point right down here that we attach those to, and it just gives us that extra layer of security which, I find it's important. You're hauling a lot of weight behind your motor home and if something we're to fail, you don't want to coming disconnected.Overall, as far as installation goes, like we said, pretty straightforward and pretty easy installation here, as compared to a lot of their base plates. I wouldn't let this scare you and the F150s are very popular. I've set up several F150s for flat towing, and they do a good job at it. There's not a lot of issues with them, not a lot of extra stuff that you need to get. Now when these are installed in your F150, from the center of one to the center of the other one, we're going to be looking at 34 inches and then they're going to be, depending on your truck, this is a rough estimate, but they're going to be about 15 and a half inches to the middle. That's important when you're selecting the items to flat tow with. You want that to be within about three inches of your receiver tube opening. So, if you measure it from the ground to your receiver tube opening, you want those to be pretty close. So, if your receiver tube opening, let's say, we've got plus or minus three inches there, so if your receiver opening on your motor home is at 20 inches, we needed to bring this up about three inches. You'll need a three inch lift or a three inch drop on your motor home to get it down to, more closely, match here. As far as the quality and everything, they've done a great job with these nice, hammered finish, powder coat on it. The tab that you see here is for connecting the safety chains between your motor home and your vehicle, in case you have any kind of accidental disconnection. But, basically when you take your tow hook off, you're going to slide it, slide this right up in its place, reuse your existing factory bolt here, and then you're just adding one more bolt here on the backside. So, really quite easy and quite straightforward, like we've said. These are designed to spread the towing force out evenly from side to side, gives you a nice solid connection point and allows you to tow very safely. Again, it's going to have that nice clean look on the front with covers, when not in use, so you're not really ruining the look of your F150. They make them right here in the United States and they will work with most tow bars. If you go into a Blue Ox tow bar, you go into do a Roadmaster tow bar, we have adapters available for those to help convert it over so it'll work out for you very effectively. Of course, all the instructions and all the hardware that you're going to need are going to be included.I told you we'd talk about some of the other components for flat towing, so let's go over those now. The base plate, which is what we generally call these, this is going to be your first step. The next step is going to be the connection point from this to your motor home. We call that a tow bar, and there's lots of different tow bars out there and they are readily available. You can get them in a wide variety of pricing. A lot of the tow bars, if you'll look, we'll have safety chains included with them and they'll have wiring included with them. I like going that route cause it keeps it nice and clean, keeps everything looking really good, because you do need wiring.Wiring is going to be the connection from your motor home, back to your vehicle. So, the lights on the back of your truck are going to flash just like the lights on your motor home. We want to be sure people behind us know if we're turning left, turning right, braking or just have our running lights on. So, that provides that to the back of the vehicle. Safety chains, we've talked about that connection point here that provides a connection between the truck or Expedition, and the back of our motor home. So, if something here we're to fail, or our tow bar we're to fail, still keeps everything connected properly. Then you need a braking system. It's required just about anywhere you go and that's going to apply the brakes in your vehicle just as you're applying the brakes in your motor home. So, we hit the brakes in the motor home, the vehicles brakes are going to come on, and that just helps everything to stop. With a properly working braking system, you should be able to stop in the exact same distance as you would without your vehicle behind you. So, it makes it really important, gives you a nice safety feature. So baseplate, tow bar, braking system, wiring and safety chains, are all something you're going to need. But as far as the base plate goes, I like this one a lot, as compared to some of the other ones I've seen for the F150. I think you will too. This is going to be something you can definitely do at home. It's not going to take you much longer than, I wouldn't imagine, getting tools out, getting them cleaned up and put away, that it will take you much over an hour, an hour and a half. So again, check our fit guide, put in your year, make and model to ensure this is going to be the right fit for your application, but outside of that, it's going to do a great job. It provides a really good connection point and, when not in use, something important to me is that real clean look.As always, we like to help you out with anything we can here at etrailer. If you have any questions, if you have any concerns, feel free to reach out to us. We're always here. We're always ready to give you an answer and get you exactly what you're going to need, to safely flat tow your Expedition or F150.

The instructions were very clear. The installation was also very straightforward. For this particular base plate you must drill a half inch diameter hole in the frame for each of the two mount points which is no easy task laying on your back under the truck. Ford frames are tough! The whole install probably took two hours for someone who has installed several base base plates but not this particular one. If I had to do another identical one it would probably take an hour. 679167

Easy to install. Straight forward design. Confusing item labeling. Washer or spacer without any type of measurement is confusing. Use #4, spacer. Use #19, washer...no comparison or description of the item besides that. 608267

Still bolted on the Jeep. Doesnt move or come off of the Jeep.

I loved the feature of Removable arms and keeping them on the towbars. It makes connecting so much faster and easier. I also like how the Plate is so much more out of site in my car. It’s all a much cleaner look. 714556

Review from a similar Tabless in Base Plates

Delivery time was outstanding. Watched the installation video several times before beginning. Did a "dry" fit of the base into the bumper and found it would not fit. It required 1/4 inch of excess metal to be ground off of each end. This did not affect the part but certainly increased labor time. Rather than clamp the base to the vehicle for drilling, I suggest bolting it in for a more accurate placement. 613105

Traveled with the TOAD 10k+ miles and had no issues. Everything working very well.

The product itself is great. It fit fine and seems to be designed and built well. Parts of the installation instructions are not correct for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. The front fascia has a couple of additional connection points at the bottom and it also connects to the front fender "flares" differently than the instructions show. If you do not realize the differences, then you can definitely damage your front fascia. 738099

Installed the base plate on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Appears to be very well made. Had one problem with install. The 4 holes where the center bracket mounts to base plate were not even close to lining up. Had to redrill all 4 holes. This could be a result of something being altered on the Jeep. Never the less, it wasn't that big of a problem. 633859
