2008 Cadillac Escalade EXT - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms

  • Roadmaster
  • Removable Drawbars
  • Hitch Pin Attachment

Designed for use with motorhome-mounted tow bars, direct-connect brackets eliminate the need for a crossbar on your tow bar. Front arms are easily removable for a streamlined look when not in use. Installs on your Cadillac Escalade EXT's frame.

Features:

  • Direct-connect brackets provide attachment points for your motorhome-mounted tow bar
    • Only compatible with Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch
  • Streamlined design creates supremely clean look
    • No obtrusive quick-disconnect crossbar
    • Hidden brackets sit even farther back than standard brackets
  • Drawbars are easily removable via 2 pins
  • Computer-cut, all-steel construction provides exceptional strength
  • Black powder coat finish is durable and corrosion resistant
  • Simple installation - no welding
    • Custom base plates ensure a perfect fit for your vehicle
  • Instructions and mounting hardware included
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Direct-connect brackets do not require a quick-disconnect crossbar because of the heavy-duty nature of your vehicle's frame. Thus, installation is simplified, the hookup process is faster, and the total appearance is enhanced.

The drawbars, or front arms, on this direct-connect base plate kit are simple to mount and remove, easily securing with pins. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets offer a streamlined look. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Note: The EZ Hook safety cables included with Roadmaster's Sterling tow bars will not work with these direct-connect base plates and require crossbar-style base plates instead.

Video Transcript for Raodmaster MX Base Plates Installation - 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

Today in this 2013 Chevrolet Silverado we're going to install part number 3154-3 from Road Master. First off we're going to have to get underneath the hood. We're going to remove some plastic fasteners attaching the radiator cover to the grill, and of course, sport. We'll go ahead and pull the plastic rivets. We'll just pull up the center with a screw driver. Then pull out the rest of the rivets.

We'll set thee rivets aside, and the cover to be reinstalled at the end. Looking down toward the bumper there are two bolts, one per sides attaching the bumper to the top of the frame rails. We'll have to remove these bolts as well to install our frame brackets. Once the frame brackets are installed these bolts will be installed. Right now go underneath the truck. We need to remove both of the tow hooks.

There will be one bolt and one bolt nut that we have to remove. We'll start on the passenger side then repeat on drivers side. Now go ahead and take the brackets and do a test fit. They fit in the same place where the tow hooks use to be. We'll put it into place, and we'll mark the plastic so we'll know what to trim, and we'll install it.

We'll go ahead and reinstall it one more time and check the bottom edge and well cut as needed. Well go ahead and take the frame bracket and tap it into place. This is a tight fit. Easily tap it in till we get the holes lined up on the inside underneath. Still working on the passenger side we'll install a bolt on the bottom of the frame rail.

We'll thread a 5/8 by two inch bolt lock washer and plate washer through the existing hole in the bottom of the frame, into the existing weld nut at the bottom of the passenger side bracket. One thing to know when installing a fasteners, we're going to leave them finger tight. That'll make sure all our hardware and our pieces stay in the same place. On the interior side we'll install the half inch by five inch long bolts in the black bracket with two holes drilled in it. We'll run through the existing hole on the bracket to be installed with the bolt, we'll want to go ahead and keep it level with the bottom edge of the frame. This is going to locate our hole we're going to drill out. We'll go ahead and mark our center using a half inch drill bit. Follow up with an intermediate drill bit, and then to our final size of a 17 -32nd hole. With that hole drilled out, we'll go ahead and install another five inch long bolt and run it through the other side. On the back side of these bolts, we'll install another spacer block with the two small holes, lock washers and nuts. We're just going to leave them finger tight. Go ahead and bolt the lower brace into the main brace. This lower brace will have two holes that will match up to the holes on the bottom of the main brace. Well loosely install two 3/8 bolts, locks, washers, and nuts. This will go to the main brace. The other half of this part will lay up against the lower frame reinforcement. We'll need to drill a hole in this as well. We'll mark a location about two inches up from the bottom. Then we'll use two and a half square backing plate, and we use that to center our hole left to right. Once youre satisfied with the location of our mark, we'll go ahead and drill out as we did once before. Now go ahead and install another half inch bolt through our lower frame bracket and through the reinforcement. On the back side well get our reinforcement backing plate, lock, washer, and nut. With all of our hardware installed go ahead and repeat the same process over on the driver side. However, one thing will be different is when we drilled out our hole for the five inch bolt on the inside, the driver side, we use an existing hole that's easy to use as a guide for a half inch drill bit. Then we'll install our bolts and backing plates as we did on our passenger side. We do need to use red lock type on our hardware so we'll take them apart one at a time, and install our lock type. Once all our hardwares installed on both brackets we'll go ahead and tighten them down and lock them down and torque them down as specified. With everything torqued down, we go back underneath the hood, and then we can go ahead and reinstall the radiator cover. With instillation complete well go ahead and install the arms that'll be used on our tool bar. Simply slide into place, lock in the receiver, and use the hitch pin and clip to hold together. With that, it will finish up our part number 3154-3 on our 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.

Great product. Fitment on our 2008 Chevy Tahoe was as the instructions suggested. Drilling through the frame was required, and took a little time. The first side I worked on took about 3 hours whereas the 2nd side only took about 1.5 hrs. Very happy with the product. 719311

2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Excellent construction. Arrived well packaged and undamaged. Instructions from manufacturer were thorough though a bit dated for more recent late model vehicles. The instructional videos on eTrailer.com were more up to date regarding newer body fascia/ bumper issues. There is a large bolt on the top of the bumper mount on my 2011 Chevy Avalanche LTZ that had to be either ground down or backed out to allow the insertion of the main frame insert. This was not addressed by anyone. I immediately towed my vehicle that weekend approx. 350 miles and everything stayed tight. Hookup to the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 tow bar was as easy as advertised with no fuss. I do wish the receiver pins were a reduced size to approximate the 1.5 inch size of the removable arms instead of pins that would fit a 2inch receiver. It would be a cleaner look. There is NO perceptible whistle or noise from the empty base plates when driving the vehicle at highway speeds. Having said that, a nice touch would be to include an insert/cover for the empty base plates for appearances. I'm very pleased with the product. There needs to be more information on the product site regarding the selection of the MX baseplate vs. the XL baseplates. It wasn't until I received my products that I understood the differences and the way they attached to the tow bar. 171244

I had the towing brackets installed on my 08 GMC pickup by my mechanic today. The job only took him a bit under 1 1/2 hrs!! They look great and unlike my previous tow system, I will no longer need the quick disconnect tow bar assembly across the front of the tow vehicle. 268799

Review from a similar Roadmaster MX in Base Plates

I have purchased a number of products from etrailer.com. I have always been satisfied with both the product and the transaction. The products have been of the highest quality with a competitive price. They have been shipped and received in a timely manner. The tow bar receivers have been mounted on my Jeep Wrangler and we have pulled it over 1000 miles without problems. I would recommend etrailer.com as a good source for trailer towing equipment. 180236

Excellent product. Easy to install on my 2005 Honda Element. Didn't have to cut anything on the frame or the grill fascia. Went with the Roadmaster over the Blue Ox because it is a less conspicuous baseplate and it wasn't necessary to alter any of the frame/metal on the car. I have a Blue Ox tow bar so I also had to have an adapter kit to hook the two together. Etrailer.com was very helpful getting me the correct parts I needed. Their customer service is A+++. I have attached 'before' and 'after' pictures (I think). I cut the electrical mount and a few tabs off of the baseplate to give it a cleaner look. I will hide the wires behind the grill and bring them out when in use. Also purchased a few plastic caps to cover tubes. 436995

After i changed my order 2 days after the order the packages arrived on the earlier promised date. 204422

Great! We have towed our Equinox all over Texas. All we have to do is take out one 5 amp fuse shift to neutral and go as stated in owners guide.

Review from a similar Roadmaster MX in Base Plates

My experience with etrailer has been excellent, so far. I spoke with a very knowledgeable representative who asked all the right questions and guided me to the produce on the web page. Shipping was prompt and updates appreciated. Now, it seems my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic, being built late in the model year, has a different frame than the one the kit is for. The kit will not fit the front of my frame even with modifications. My local RV Service say that while rare they have seen similar instances. They have a solution for my unit therefore I am returning the product to etrailer. In closing I thank you for your service and, having perused your website and just starting all over with a coach I'm sure we will have opportunities for additional business. 733260

Review from a similar Roadmaster MX in Base Plates

Bought this to be able to flat-tow our 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser which some say can't be done (w/o damage to the tranny) - however - we're a couple thousand mile into the experiment and all seems to be well. The device itself - although a bit awkward to completely remove/reinstall on the vehicle - shows no sign of weakness or operational malfunction. For those of you who may consider doing this same thing with your Toy and are using (or intend to use) Roadmaster's Brakemaster air-actuated brake system, BE ADVISED: you WILL burn up your Cruiser's brakes UNLESS you add their 900002 adjustable pressure reducer to accommodate your "active" braking system. (Bolt hole spacing on the actuator cylinder bracket allows for mounting the reducer right on the unit inside the vehicle ;-) One improvement Roadmaster could/should make to this baseplate setup is to provide mounting points for their Guardian series front-end vehicle protection. It CAN be done! 730728

  • Recommendation For Flat Towing 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 Behind Motorhome
I reviewed the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe owner's manual and it can be flat towed. To flat tow your Tahoe, you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, wiring, a braking system, and maybe a high-low hitch adapter. For your 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4, I recommend the Roadmaster MX Base Plate Kit, Item # 3154-3, because it is designed for your vehicle. It is built with heavy-duty applications in mind. The front arms are easily removable when not in use. The Roadmaster Nighthawk...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 Behind an RV
Yes, you can flat tow a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. Only the 4x4 models can be flat towed with all wheels on the ground. The 2-wheel drive models cannot be flat towed and would have to be put on a trailer. But since you have a 4x4 you don't have to worry about that! There are 5 main parts needed to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For base plates you can use Roadmaster MX base plates # 3154-3. I have linked a video showing...

You are correct that the 2011 GMC Yukon 4x4 with single speed transfer case cannot be flat towed as is. I've attached a photo of the pages from the owners manual to assist. It is logical to think because the 2 speed transfer case models can be flat towed without issue that dropping the drive shaft as you stated would allow you to safely tow your single speed vehicle. Without proper testing, I can't confirm this would be the case, but it is very logical. If you decide to tow it, I recommend...

I am not sure what, if any, modification can be done to make it fit but I advise against doing so as Roadmaster wouldn't have had a chance to test it for safety. The correct MX base plate kit for your 2006 Silverado 1500 will be one of the following (depending on your sub-model): 1500 LD - Z71 - # 199-6 (Front suspension must use torsion bar) 1500 LD - excluding Z71 - # 199-11...
