Video Transcript for MaxxTow Ball Mount Review - 2014 Chevrolet Suburban

Today, on our 2014 Chevy Suburban, we'll be test fitting the Maxxtow Ball Mount with a 2-inch accessory receiver for 2-inch hitches, with a 2-1/4 inch drop rated at 5,000 pounds, part number MT70066. Now, this ball mount allows you to haul a small boat or trailer while also carrying a 2-inch accessory. Before we begin our test fit, we're first going to get the hitch height of our Suburban. The hitch height is the measurement from the ground to the inside top of the receiver tube. We'll get a hitch height of about 24-1/2 inches. Keep in mind this measurement may vary due to tire size, hitch style, or after-market accessories. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the ball mount into the opening of the hitch.

After lining up the pinholes, we'll insert our pin into the pinholes and secure it with the clip on the other side. We'll measure from the ground to the top of the ball platform, getting a measurement of about 22 inches. If your vehicle's hitch height matches ours and your trailer's ride height matches this measurement, this would be an appropriate ball mount for you. That will complete today's test fit of the Maxxtow Ball Mount with a 2-inch accessory receiver, part number MT70066, on our 2014 Chevy Suburban. .

We have always struggled with what to do with our bikes when we were towing our pop-up trailer. Only one hitch! Such a pain strapping the bikes to the trailer or the top of the truck. When I finally found the MaxxTow Ball Mount w/2" accessory receiver, this allows us to bring both the trailer and our bikes via our Thule bike rack. Perfect solution. Great price, super fast shipping! Thanks! 541126

Can I use this dual hitch to raise the clearance in my chrysler 300c ??it will fit the holes to attach it!

You can use it to raise clearance for things like bike racks or cargo carriers, but you cannot use the top receiver tube to tow with. This is provided you have a 2 inch hitch on your 300C. If you need extra height for towing a trailer, a taller ball mount would be a better choice. I've included a link to a Tech Article that will show you how to select the best size ball mount. If you're trying to accomplish something else, let me know.

I received my hitch receiver earlier than the expected date and very well packaged. Unfortunately I will not be able fully review until spring time as it is for our motorhome in effort to carry bicycles while towing our car behind. Should work for what we need. Looks to be well manufactured and welds are done nicely. Thanks again. 747440

This item will be absolutely perfect to add a carrier for our tandem onthe back of our motorhome and between the coach and the toad. Been an etrailer customer for years. Prices are right, shipping has always been "Freaky fast" to borrow from another company. The one time I had a return it was hassle free. I love their free shipping at a certain price point but if you don't get to that level shipping costs seem a little high to me. BUT, here I was buying just this because they have them. 719501

I had purchased a hitch extension with the double receiver. And the day I was going camping discovered that by using the extension I could not connect the electrical or the safety chains. I returned it to the store I purchased it from and checked on etrailer, for a ball mount with a 5 1/4 drop and the receiver for a bike rack, After not finding one in emailed a rep and he explained why I could not find the 5 1/4 inch drop, he was very helpful and got back to me quickly in the emails, so I ordered the product from etrailer. The service was as great. 670738

This was exactly what I needed! I wanted to pull my jet-ski and a mountain bike to the lake, and this is perfect. Added a 2" ball for the trailer and the bike rack slipped right in the top. Thank you so much for making such a great product. I did not even know these cool hitches existed. I had been struggling with how to tow my kayak trailer and my bike rack and saw something similar on the interstate. I quickly looked up etrailer and found this product. This hitch allows me to lock it onto my truck as well as lock the bike rack to this hitch. Now, I do not have to struggle to move different hitches back and forth on my truck. The product is fantastic and it shipped way faster than expected! Thank you for making such a great product that makes my life more convenient! 505651

Sturdy and functions exactly as it should. One thing to note...with a Drawtite hitch on a 2017 Subaru Forester, the back side of the upper mount just comes into contact with the bumper. Over time, it would probably wear on the plastic a bit. Maybe nothing a piece of cloth couldn't solve, but there is definitely contact. 417982

  • Compatibility of Bike Rack Receiver Mount while Towing Pop-Up Camper
The MaxxTow Ball Mount w/ 2" Accessory Receiver - 2" Hitches - 2-1/4" Drop - 5,000 lbs # MT70066 will work as long as you have 6 inches of clearance for the hitch pin hole of your receiver to the edge of the bumper. The Curt # D210 is rated for up to 7,500 lbs and is slightly shorter. You will need 5 inches of clearance between the center of the hitch pin hole and the outermost edge of the bumper to not make contract with the top receiver tube. Your other options are the Stromberg...

  • Carrying Bikes and Towing a Kayak Trailer with a 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
Technically you could use the MaxxTow Ball Mount, # MT70066, with a 1-1/4 to 2 inch hitch adapter, but I would not recommend doing this and I would bet that you would not be happy with this setup. There would be a lot of movement with the bike rack and bikes, even with anti-rattle devices and the use of an adapter will decrease the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by half. This means the weight of the bike rack, bikes and trailer will have to be lower than half the tongue weight...

The MaxxTow # MT70066 and Curt # D210 multipurpose ball mounts differ in towing and tongue weight capacities as you noted and also in some dimensions. Overall they are very similar and both accept a hitch ball with a 1-inch shank like # 63845 but the MaxxTow has 1-5/8-inches of drop on its ball platform whereas the Curt has slightly more at 2-1/4-inches. Also, the Curt # D210 includes a pin and clip while the MaxxTow does not. On each part's page we include measured diagrams with many...

  • Hitch Adapter That Is Compatible With Motorcycle Carrier And Pop Up Camper
MaxxTow Ball Mount w/ 2" Accessory Receiver - 2" Hitches - 1-5/8" Drop - 5,000 lbs # MT70066 will allow you to use a motorcycle carrier and still give you the ability to tow. This ball mount will require a hitch ball like # 63845. I recommend the Detail K2 Motorcycle Carrier - 2" Hitches - Tilting # K2TMC201 for your motorcycle which comes with and anti-tilt device for added stability. This will already max out the tongue weight of this adapter that is rated for 500 lbs. If you choose...

  • What is the Rise on the Maxx Tow Multi-Use Ball Mount # MT70066
I went out to the warehouse and pulled a MaxxTow Ball Mount, # MT70066, to take the measurement for you. From the center of the hitch pin hole on the shank up to the center of the pin hole on the receiver portion is 6 inches. I made a video for you also. A ball mount or adapter that raises the receiver and that you can use for a cargo carrier is not available. You would need to use a ball mount like the Maxx Tow to achieve additional height.

  • Is There A Ball-Mount With Accessory Receiver For 1-1/4 Inch Hitches?
The MaxxTow Ball Mount w/ 2" Accessory Receiver - 2" Hitches - 1-5/8" Drop - 5,000 lbs, # MT70066 does not come in a 1-1/4 inch size. You can use an adapter like # 80303 if you have a Class II hitch and need a 2 inch accessory option, but it will reduce the tongue weight rating of your hitch by 50%. This adapter is not to be used for towing. There is not an towing and accessory combination for a Class I or Class II hitch receiver based on their rated max capacities.

The tongue weight capacity for the MaxxTow Ball Mount With 2 Inch Accessory Receiver, part # MT70066 is 500 lbs.
