Video Transcript for Review of the Fastway Flash Solid Aluminum Ball Mount

Speaker 1: Today we'll be taking a look at Fastway's line of flash solid aluminum ball mounts. These either come with a 1 inch diameter ball mount shank and various drop and rise configurations or with a 1 1/4 inch ball mount shank and various drop and rise configurations. And just for reference, the one we'll be showing off today is part number DTBM4200.As you can see here, this is what it's going to look like installed on our vehicle. That nice shiny finish really stands out and looks great with our truck in comparison to some other painted steel options. And depending on the height of your vehicle and your trailer, you may need either a drop or rise position. We've currently got it installed in our drop position.

And if your set up required a rise, you can also install it in this position to ensure that your trailer's level inaudible 00:00:52.From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount is going to measure about 8 1/4 inches. The key to successful towing is knowing the tongue weight and gross trailer weight of your trailer. Each ball mount is going to have a specific rating for its tongue weight and the amount of its gross towing capacity. You want to make sure that you match your trailer with your ball mount. When in doubt, always make sure that you go with a heavier duty ball mount so that way you don't have to worry about your trailer becoming disconnected from your ball mount. That should latch onto your trailer.

Just lock it down and you're ready to hit the road. Here we have our aluminum ball mount from Fastway. Now if you compare this with a steel one, you'll instantly notice there's some major differences. First off, appearance. This one's got a polished finish which gives it a real sleek, attractive look. Another on the appearance is that this is a machine surface.

So everything's going to be nice, sleek, and consistent whereas this one is welded together. So you're going to have these ugly welds covered up with paint. And then beyond that, you'll notice here at the end our steel is hollow on the inside and our aluminum is completely solid. Even though this one is completely solid, it still weighs less than this one here. So it's easier to handle. Unless you notice that this is bare aluminum while this one's painted because aluminum is resistant to rust.

So you don't have to worry about rust especially if you're going to be in a salty area or if you take your boat to the dock often. Now before you install any ball mounts in your truck, you want to check out your trailer in your truck to make sure you're getting the appropriate one with the drop or rise to feed it. So we'll start here by measuring and we've got about 20 inches on our truck to the top inside edge of our receiving tube. And after we've leveled out our trailer, it's measuring about 18.5 inches. So we're going to need about a two inch drop. This one here is a two inch drop and uses a one inch shank ball. It does not come with a ball, so you have to get your own ball separately. You can pick one up here at etrailer.com. And you need to make sure you torque it properly. If you don't have the appropriate equipment to torque your ball, you can go to any local trailer distributor and they can likely torque it for you. We're now ready to slide it into our hitch. This is a two inch by two inch shank on our ball mount, so it'll match up to our two inch by two inch hitch. The hole here is for a 5/8 inch hitch pin. It does not come with one, but you can pick one up here at etrailer.com, part number PC3. If you'd like to go with a locking option, Fastway has one available with part number DT30005.And it's as simple as that. We're read to hook up our trailer. And that completes our look at Fastway's line of flash solid aluminum ball mounts.

Love it. Light weight yet 2000lb tounge weight. Just mounted a new ball, perfect fit in 1" hole. Bought the new ball bearing locking pin sprayed a little silicone inside lock before locking my new hitch to truck. All very nice. Will likely buy another to mount a larger ball so i don't have to swap balls. Was concerned the locking pin would be too short but there is 1/4" extra length, just fine. 285888

After about 1.5 - 2 years of of daily use this Ball mount failed big time. I was driving about 35 mph and the ball mount broke at the ball opening. My trailer detached and was dragging behind my truck. ball mount is fine if you don't use it a lot I guess. I will not buy again. 241714

Received the aluminum trailer hitch from e-trailer and it is definitely a work of art. It is highly polished and will look great once I attach the stainless steel ball to it. This hitch has a 1,000 lb. tongue and 14,000 lb. towing capacity. etrailer has been great to deal with and my order was shipped and received quickly! 602838

Ordered the Receiver Hitch, Ball and HitchLock and got free shipping. Order was confirmed immediately by email and shipped the very next day with the UPS tracking number. Order arrived one day early to my surprise. The Hitch appears to be well made and looks sharp, the Ball and Hitch Pin the same. Looking forward to getting the boat out of storage and hauling it with these new products. Great prices, fast and free shipping on quality products. 361284

This is a great replacement for my existing extremely heavy B&W Tow & Stow hitch. this combination weighs about 1/5 of what the B&W weighs. Love the fact it is solid aluminum ball mount with the attached stainless steel convert a ball system. Thanks foe a great product. 202762

After a year, I want to buy another. I have a 2-5/16? ball on this one, and to haul some smaller items, I need a 2: ball. Am going to buy another so I can just swap out tongues.

Bought this product to replace a permanently rusted in receiver. Firs awesome. Very well built. Consider purchasing a locking hitch pin with this product as its appearance seems prone to theft. 155730

The product is very well built and comes highly polished. I expected, as advertised, that there would be the two spring loaded ball bearings on the male end to reduce the rattling but they were not there. Consequently, the fit on the 2012 F-150 receiver is very sloppy and rattles excessively. I tightened the fit by wedging composite shims in the gaps to remove the slop. Don't know how long they will stay in. I would imagine the manufacturer makes it a little undersized to fit more recievers. Well built product/Poor fit. 147859

  • Rust Proof Ball Mount and Hitch Ball Setup Recommendation
First thing you will need to do is determine how much rise/drop you would need from a ball mount to tow your trailer level. For that you will want to check out the help article that I attached that details how to do this. Once you figure out what you would need I attached a page that has all of the aluminum ball mounts we carry. You would want to select the amount of drop you would need from the filters and all of the correct ball mounts will be listed. You would want to use a stainless...

A ball with a medium shank, 2-1/8 inches or longer, will work fine with the Solid Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTBM4200. You will just need to make sure that there are at least 2 threads past the nut when it is properly tightened to the ball mount. • Is Rise Or Drop On Ball Mount Measurement Accurate
The rise or drop for a ball mount is measured from the top of the hitch opening to the base where the ball mounts on the drawbar. We have a few aluminum ball mounts that have a 1-inch rise like part # EA20, part # DTBM4200. These are made with tight tolerances so you can trust they are accurate. The hitch ball hole for both of these ball mounts is 1-inch diameter.

  • Aluminum Ball Mount Selection For 2005 Jeep Liberty
A difference in length of your hitch, or ball mount will effect the clearance from the trailer to the rear of your Jeep Liberty. What you would want to do is measure the clearance needed on your Jeep Liberty. To measure the clearance needed, you will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out 8-1/4 Inches. This will be the location of your hitch ball. Then what you can do is move your trailer and position the coupler to that approximate location to see if there will be any...
