Love the way it looks. However there are to many moving parts. the fit of the ball support bracket to the vertical slide shaft is loose and allows to much movement. Because the alluminum is soft I am already seeing wear on the spline. Also was loose fit into my receiver. I had to add a set screw to keep it tight in the sleeve. At this rate I expect I will have to replace it within 5 years. Great product if you don't haul heavier loads or if you do not use it very often. I would not buy it again. 572998

The product I recently purchased from eTrailer, an adjustable aluminum Diversi Tech ball mount, arrived in an amazingly short time and was in perfect condition. This is one gorgeous piece of equipment - the finish is jewel like and the functionality is so elegantly simple, secure and maintenance free, it is well worth the expense in my opinion. It is the last hitch mount you will ever need and the eTrailer folks provide service second to none. 49113

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

Like most of the reviews on this product, a little skeptical on the locking pin in the receiver. Seems like it should extend out a little further when it’s locked in the receiver.... It is well built and looks great. It’s what I wanted and can’t wait to put it to the test! 573983

Have not used product yet, however customer service was excellent. I had received the wrong ball mount and contacted customer service. Dana was understanding and immediately sent out a return label and the correct ball mount. Couldn't ask for any better. Should be picking up new trailer in a few weeks and can't wait to use all the products I have purchased from etrailer.com 223292

I love this product. I have 2 different tow vehicles, and having the option to change the height of the ball is a big advantage. I also like the feature of having 2 different size balls on the same mount. This product has much flexibility and suites my needs perfectly. Plus it looks sharp. 369888

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

I was very confused in trying to determine the type of hitch to use for my just purchased 2019 Ford Superduty truck. The good folks at E-trailer worked with me and I selected a hitch with just the right drop. Years ago I purchased several tires from these folks and they are wonderful to work with. Very professional and (most important) PATIENT!! 706320

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

After about 7 months, the lock that locks and releases the pin to the receiver was completely frozen stuck, and the key to the lock twisted off (pretty flimsy). After re-lubing the pin and lock again, twisted the other key off. i had to mangle the lock to get it off of my truck, and unit is now completely worthless... 404043

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

Great solid hitch but the lock is poor quality. I left it on the truck for several months (with lock protection cap on) and one day I went to remove. Found lock tumbler had shifted and was unable to insert key to remove. Had to drill out lock to get ball mount off the truck. I know have a $80 aluminum paper weight. 591181

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

Serves the purpose needed. Love the fact that it has a 2,000 lb tongue weight and a 14,000 lb tow weight. it gives me that extra safety margin. One big drawback is that I ordered two keyed alike replacement locks because I have another hitch different size but I am not able to remove the set screw following the instructions no matter how hard or what ever I use. So I am presently stuck with using two different keys and with a set of keyed alike locks. 591470

Comments
When its installed, Fastway uses a small amount of thread locker on the set screw, so its designed not to be easy to remove. Try spraying a spray lubricant like PB Blaster or WD-40 in the set screw hole. You might need to repeat this several times for the lubricant to penetrate. If several attempts of this doesnt work, you can use a # 1 extractor to remove the set screw. If that doesnt do the trick, I was told you could send the ball mount to Fastway, and theyd re-key them for a fee.

Still not able to remove the set screw to have two locking ball mounts with one key. i am able to remove the screws in my other two mounts but not this one. This one was put in two tight andor too much loctite.

You may try using some penetrating oil on the set screw to loosen it up a bit. Over time they can become harder to remove. We have a video to show how to swap out the lock cores.

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

I have owned 2 of these hitches. First one lost when I had a hitch pin fall out of a 2 1/2" adapter...fortunately not towing! The hitch is easy to adjust, very durable, looks nice and is well engineered for towing. Finer points that need attention: 1. rubber caps over cylinder locks have a tether to prevent loss that never allows the rubber cap to fit back in place...ever. It's a design flaw. New out the box, the cap won't fit back into place after you remove it the first time. Expect to have to always have to secure the rubber caps or just cut it off. 2. The anti-rattle spring loaded ball bearings are not effective. I have used this hitch in over a dozen vehicles and none have had hitch openings tight enough to allow the anti-rattle bearings to be effective or make contact. The hitch will rattle, always, unless you use some metal shims or tape with duct tape around the draw bar. 3. If you try to adapt the 2" draw bar to a 2 1/2" hitch, it puts the hitch about 3-4" farther back away from the truck. This could be a problem from the standpoint of hitting your shins on the bar, to putting your load farther back, to decreasing your rear clearance. 4. Spending this much money on a hitch, I typically go through 2-4 vehicles with the same hitch and they all have different size hitches. If you buy the 2 1/2" size draw bar with the cylinder lock, it's only good for a 2 1/2" hitch. Not good if you try to back convert to a 2" hitch or use it in one of your buddy's 2" receivers. If you buy the 2" draw bar, you can purchase the $50 adapter to use in either a 2" or 2 1/2" hitch size. 103332

Review from a similar Self-Locking in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

I previously purchased this product for a 2" receiver and was very pleased with it as I formerly kept five hitches in my truck for five trailers - each was a different height and one was a 2 5/16 ball with the others being 2". Consequently, I went from hauling around about 75 pounds of hitches to one at about 15 pounds - plus, being aluminum, it had greater load capacity and looked a lot nicer than the steel hitches. My new truck has a 2 1/2" (class V) receiver and the former hitch cam operated lock pins did not come out far enough to engage the receiver when an adapter was used; hence, the need to buy another one rated for 2 1/2" receivers. The new one arrived and it was a 2" hitch with extended pin lengths and an adapter to make it fit a 2 1/2" receiver. Unfortunately, the adapter was off center and I was unable to insert the unit into the receiver on the truck. There are two screws that affix the adapter to the hitch insert and after about an hour I was able to get the new hitch/adapter to fit my receiver using one of the two screws to get the sleeve and hitch lined up properly and discarding the second screw which would have caused further misalignment. While not very happy about the latter, I am pleased with the result. I would strongly suggest that the manufacturer have some type of quality control as it was very apparent to the naked eye that the sleeve and hitch were not properly aligned. As far as Etrailer, they have always been great to deal with and offer all kinds of support. I have been purchasing equipment from them for many years. 340339

After a year the hitch has worked well. Recently I was in VA with freeing rain then below freezing temperatures. I had to reverse the balls due to what I had to tow. To my surprise the locks had not frozen and worked as designed. Regarding salt exposure, I reside in Florida and after my trip to VA my vehicle was covered with salt. I used Salt Away for boats coupled with a nozzle. The unit is similar to a hose mounted liquid fertilizer applicator and allowed me to thoroughly clean the nooks and crannies including the hitch. It will not damage paint and is supposedly environmentally friendly.

So far, so good. My 2018 Ram 2500 has a high-sitting bed, meaning the hitch sits much higher than my previous F250. The large drop really helped with towing a boat and keeping the weight distributed evenly. It shows no sign of aging or wear. I haven't towed anything other than my boat, so I haven't had to use the built-in scale beyond my initial set up for my boat. I'd buy it again. 845970

Very nice polished aluminum. It looks like it will last much longer than the old rusty metal one I had. In the past, i had bought 2 of those and neither one lasted very long before they were so rusted I was concerned they would spread rust to my very expensive hitch and receiver. 829665

  • Can Fastway Self-Locking Adjustable 3-Ball Mount be Used with 3 Inch Receiver and Reducer Sleeve
I spoke with my contact at Fastway regarding the Self-Locking Adjustable 3-Ball Mount 2.5 Inch # DTALBM6825-3S referenced in your question. He stated that this actually will not work with the 3 inch receiver on your Ford F-350, even when using the Ford provided reducer sleeve. This is because of the design on the self-locking system that is utilized with this particular ball mount. The integrated locking knobs on the shank will do a great job of securing itself to the reducer sleeve, but...

Ball mount drop is measured from the top of the shank of the ball mount to the top of the ball mount platform. See attached picture. If you need 7 inches of drop from a ball mount the Diversi-Tech Ball Mount # DTALBM6825-3S would be adequate as it is adjustable all the way down to a 8 inch drop. • Can Diversi-Tech 2-1/2 Inch Ball Mount, Part # DTALBM6825-3S, Be Used with 2-Inch Hitch Receivers?
The Diversi-Tech Ball Mount, Part # DTALBM6825-3S, is intended for 2-1/2 inch hitch receivers as you noted. The sleeve is press-fit and is not removable. Generally hitch sleeve adapters are produced to allow smaller-size items to be used in larger receivers, for example a 1-1/4 inch hitch mount bike rack in a 2-inch receiver. Whenever any adapter is used the weight bearing capacity of the total system is reduced. Since this adjustable ball mount has a high maximum towing capacity of...

  • Movement of Diversi-Tech Adjustable Ball Mount When Installed in Receiver
Most ball mounts will move around in the receiver to some extent, some worse than others. The reason why is that no receiver tube measures a perfect 2 inches by 2 inches. As long as the dimension is within a certain degree over or under, it's considered to be within tolerance. The shank of the ball mount needs to be slightly under 2 inches by 2 inches in size, otherwise you wouldn't be able to slide it into the receiver. Long story short, if the hitch you have is toward the large end of...

We have not heard of that issue on the Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6825-3S. The issue seems to sometimes to be a result of the more rounded corners on the Ford hitch and the more square corners on many 2-1/2 inch accessories.
