Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - 36053 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 36053. This is the Draw-Tite class II draw bar with a 5/8 inch rise or a 1 1/4 inch drop. This is a kit, so it is going to come with a 1/2 inch pin and clip. This is rated for up to 35,00 pounds of gross trailer weight, and up to to 300 pounds of tongue weight. It's going to use a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter. We know that by taking a measurement of the ball hold diameter, which measures 3/4 inch. This draw bar is designed to fit 1 1/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch class II hitches. The measurement from the center of the hitch pin hold to the center of the ball hold is going to give us a measurement of 9 3/4 inches.

With it installed in the rise position, it's going to give us a rise of 5/8 inch from the top of the shank to the ball platform. If we install this in the drop position, and do that same measurement, it's going to give us a drop of 1 1/4 inch. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear of the shank is going to measure 2 inches, and the platform here is going to give us a measurement of 2 inches by 5 1/4 inches. It does feature a nice solid shank. The way this works is you just slide the shank into the receiver 00:01:19 tube of your hitch, line up your pin holes, and insert the included 1/2 inch pin and clip. With everything secured, you'll be all set to go. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 36053.

This is the Draw-Tite class II draw bar with a 5/8 inch rise or a 1 1/4 inch drop. .

I believe my choice, with the help of etrailer, of this Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, along with a few other items to go with it, such as the drawbar, hitch ball and wiring harness, was a good one for my 2017 Subaru Forester. I also have to compliment etrailer for their excellent video on how to install it. All together, it really made the purchase very easy and smooth. Thanks etrailer. 323643

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Ball Mounts
Do you have a question about this Ball Mount?

  • Compare the Class III Draw-Tite and Curt Class II Hitch for the 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • Both of the hitches you mentioned are good quality hitches, are easy to install and require no drilling or welding for installation. They have very similar towing cacities: 4000 lb for the Draw-Tite and 3500 lb for the Curt. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Hitch, # 75560 for you 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon. This hitch provides you with a 2" receiver, which is why I believe it is the most popular hitch for your Outback Wagon. More trailers and hitch accessories (like bike racks and...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2018 Nissan Rogue Compatible with Tailgate Lift Assist
  • For your 2018 Nissan Rogue SL, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36542. This is a class II hitch receiver rated for up to 300 lbs tongue weight and well over the towing capacity of your vehicle at 3500 lbs. The ECU is not something we carry as most liftgates work just fine when you add an aftermarket hitch. The sensor that is often covered up at the hitch location just won't sense the movement, but either side of the hitch tube will work fine. If you have issues, then...

  • Class II Ball Mount Does Not Fit in a Class I Receiver Hitch
  • Class I and class II hitches both have an 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inch receiver openings. However, a class I hitch has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs and a tongue weight of 200 lbs, a class II hitch has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 300 lbs. Because of the differences in capacity, the hitch manufacturer designs the receiver shank depth in different sizes. The class I hitch is not as deep as a class II hitch, as you have discovered. You should not need to trim anything, but the installation instructions specify that a 1/2 inch diameter hole needs to be drilled in the rear of the passenger-side frame member. The best ball mount will depend on the coupler height of the trailer you're planning on using. I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to determine what rise/drop ball mount you'll need. • Draw-Tite Hitch Recommendation for Ground Clearance on a 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • Since the CURT Trailer Hitch # C12270 will sit below the rear bumper of your 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon it will reduce the ground clearance on your vehicle. However, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36284 will give you a little more ground clearance as the area that goes around the exhaust tip will go above the tip on the Draw-Tite hitch. Whereas, it goes below the tip on the CURT hitch. Check out the picture I attached that shows both of these hitches installed on a similar vehicle as...

So yes, you could trim the heat shield if you wanted to on your 2015 Subaru Forester. If you go with this Curt hitch and you will be using it for a bike rack or a cargo carrier then Curt requires the use of stabilization strap # 18050.
