I searched the internet to put a hitch on my 2016 Chevy Equinox and found an instructional video from eTrailer.com where they installed on my exact car. I decided to go with eTrailer.com because they answered all my questions and because of the video-I support businesses that go the extra mile with these videos. Shipping was quick and well tracked, however, the box was flimsy and the one end of the hitch had come out of the box side and the ball mount could have easily come out of that hole during shipping. If I were eTrailer.com I'd charge an extra couple of bucks for more sturdy boxes-people will still buy as eTrailer is a well-trusted brand and this would overcome a lot of the negative reviews you'll see on their site about this shipping issue in their own reviews :-) I installed the hitch by myself (definitely recommend help as two people holding it up to the frame makes attaching 100% easier) in about 45 minutes total (out of the box, read instructions, review video again and installation complete). All hardware went on with no issues. Great quality hitch! I also bought the lesser expensive wiring assembly because most recent equinox's come hitch ready with pre-wired assembly in the left side compartment-snap and done. Picked up a new trailer at Home Depot within days and drove 5 feet and the clacking was horrible. I had always had a welded hitch before buying a hitch that took a ball mount. I really thought something was wrong and when I searched the internet that night it turns out this is very common. However, all you need is some sort of hitch "silencing" device. The number of options will drive you mad but I went with the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch and it did the trick for much less than most of the other options. If I were eTrailer.com I'd have that as one of the RECOMMENDED add-ons and explanation why its super-worthy when customers are buying a hitch. Would have saved me the time and hassle of dealing with it later and the extra shipping charge for buying after the fact when I got free shipping for the other items the first time :-) All in all, I'm super, super happy with my hitch, wiring assembly, ball mount, ball mount locking pin and the hitch silencer. Buy with confidence from eTrailer.com Paul R., Syracuse, NY 287169

Strong and seems to be well made and well finished. One-inch ball mounting hole. I used this for a Curt hitch mounted on a 2014 Forester and pulls a small Harbor Freight trailer. Perfect height and trailer is level. Warning - don't get their hitch pin, it does not have a hole for a cotter pin, only a weak clip that I would not trust. 108040

Comments

Still going strong. I use it to pull a 4x8 utility trailer. Also sometimes plug a hitch carrier into it when I want to haul a few bags of mulch or a couple of propane cylinders or gas cans.

Fastest delivery I have ever had. Ordered Wednesday at 5PM, arrived Thursday at 3PM. I'm only a couple hundred miles from Wentzville, but still, excellent. The hitch receiver (2008 Pilot) installed quickly and easily. No need to remove spare or lower muffler. I supported the left end on a large cooler and quickly maneuvered the right side above the tail pipes. The mounting holes were right on target. I had to tap mine to remove rust, but that's easy as well. The wiring harness was also a snapto install. Simple to plug into existing fitting and the wiring box tucked away nicely beneath the trim as advertised. There are options about what to do with the wiring tail and trailer connector. I chose the method shown in the video...leave it rubber-banded in the storage well. Others have run it outside through available holes, but I did not want to leave it exposed to road grime. etrailer's videos were very detailed and shown on my specific vehicle for both the hitch and the wiring harness. Good values as well. If I were Draw-Tite (or Curt) I would include a complementary rubber plug with their logo...cheap advertising. 430539

Product as advertised. Wished I'd paid more attention to what was included and not included. Seller web site did a good job indicating other suggestions on what would go with what you were viewing. So much so, I became dependent on it, and over looked the fact that the pin to hold the ball mount was not included in either the receiver or ball mount. I overlooked this and had to go out and buy this somewhere else. Other than that ordering was easy, and I received everything in a timely manner. It's worth noting that their tracking was dead on as well. It's nice tracking the progress of a package you are waiting for so you can plan your installation. And again, they do a nice job of following up letting you know they received, shipped the order and a link to follow it in transit. 147675

Very nice hitch. This is my third hitch purchase from etrailer.com and as usual, delivery was fast and the install went smoothly. The videos and user comments were very helpful. My vehicle is a few years old so the suggestion to chase the 8 mounting nut holes was spot on. There was a lot of mud and dirt which easily came out but would have been a pain to do while mounting the hitch. Also, the suggestion to spray down the rubber exhaust hangers and muffler heat shield bolts with penetrant (WD40) helped as well. The recommended draw bar and 4-wire harness also mounted beautifully. Got to love those factory installed rear wire harnesses which allow plug-in trailer harnesses on the Honda/Acura products. Total install took about 90 minutes which I think will be typical for a DIY'er who sprays down the bolts, chases the holes and without rushing or using air tools. Will buy again from etrailer.com 60422

My order arrived in two days. I am impressed both by the layout and functionality of etrailer website and by the quick, free shipment. The hitch for my 20007 Hyundai Santa Fe is well made, well finished and fit perfectly. The estimated installation time of 30 minutes would probably have been accurate had I not had to clean 3 years worth of rust from the mounting nuts installed by the factory. Once clean (no simple task since reaching them with a 10m/1.25 tap was difficult) mounting the tow bar was simple and made easier with a pair of jackstands. Owing to the design and location of the mounts, reaching them required the use of different ratchet extensions and flexible joints and I'm not certain of the accuracy of any torque reading. In summary, I am pleased with the product and impressed by the follow-up from etrailer. I will recommend them without hesitation. 6436

Purchased a can of BP Blaster penetrating spray the day after I ordered the parts. I sprayed the weld nuts several times while waiting for the parts to arrive and it seemed to help loosen them up. My order arrived on time and I installed the hitch the next morning. I installed the hitch by myself ( I'm 67 years old), and while I admit that an extra set of hands would have been very helpful, the install was easier than I anticipated. I had all the parts I needed, the instructions were easy to follow and the online video was very helpful. I purchased the hitch in order to tow a trailer with a ton of wood pellets, instead of getting 1/2 a ton at a time (the capacity of my truck). Hopefully these products will solve my problem, only time will tell. 392664

I recently purchased a class III Curt hitch, mount, ball, wiring harness and hitch pin for my 2011 Toyota Rav 4. The installation was as described, straight forward and easy. The instructions were easy read and matched the vehicle I have. Everything fit together exactly with no modification needed. Shipping was directly to my door. The unit was undamaged and everything was shipped all in the same box. I have used my hitch several times, and although I an new to towing, I look forward to years of use. I did have to make a quiet clamp for the banging mount with an empty trainer, but from what I understand, this is common to all hitched. 402612

Everything about my eTrailer experience has been absolutely first class, including the follow up emails, 2 of them. Due to a medical problem it's taken me over a year to complete the installation but that's on my end. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in May of 2016. I just now got to running the power wire up to the battery and finishing the job today, 8/2/17. Again, all due to issues on my end. The product, the personal assistance, and the videos made this job as easy as it could be for this 68 year old putting a hitch on a 2012 KIA Sedona by himself. Thanks to eTrailer for running a most excellent company in every regard. 417295

This is actually a replacement to a receive hitch where the hitch ball had rusted on it to the point where I couldn't remove it. The new one works great and is a snap to use. The web site was excellent! I liked the way their cart interface works in that it let's keep shopping away and adding items to your cart without losing your place. They notifed me promptly upon receipt of my order, then notifed me when it was shipped and it promptly arrived a few days later in perfect condition. If I ever need trailer parts again, this is the first place I'll be turning to. 36803

This is a well constructed unit. Being a mechanic helped make the installation easier. The only problem came when I was short one backing nut and one Std nut was the wrong size for the thread. Since I had a proper strength nut available in my shop the delay was short. The instructions were scant but the illustration was sufficient to figure out after careful study. A+ for the unit D for the parts collator. My unit went on a 2005 Ford Escape. The fit was perfect. 1 Hour assembly time plus 1/2 half hour securing missing parts. 28868

The hitch was very easy to install, took about 30 min. It fits perfectly to my 2001 Ford Ranger. The tow bar is very sturdy and is very well made! The delivery was fast, I ordered it on a Monday, and it arrived on Friday. I would most DEFINETLY recommend this to anyone who is considering this for a tow bar. 380775

Purchased a hidden hitch and hitch insert from etrailer. It was very easy to install. The vidios they have on line are very helpful and one person can install the hitch. I have a 2012 Nissan Rouge and I used a hydraulic jack to lift the hitch up while I maunevered it into to place. Which was very easy. The only trouble I had was taking the bolts out of the tow ring because the were in very tight. Other than that the whole process took about 30 min. The delivery was quick and the products were excellent. 35230

I hate the computer (but they do have a super-easy website; I just ran out of time). So I used my preferred method: I called, and was helped quickly, without waiting....by someone who was pleasant and knowledgeable!.....thank you, ROSE, for handling my order. I've never done any towing before- and I expected a complicated hassle, but I was 100% wrong---and I would 100% do business again with etrailer. The moral of the story: I was smart enough to ask my mechanic- who told me about etrailer 381459

The hitch was the correct one for the car, and the cable harness and receiver was correct also. Delivery was extremely fast: ordered on Wednesday, delivered on Friday. All necessary parts were included, including instructions for torquing down the bolts. I installed the hitch, 'without a hitch' on Saturday. It took about an hour, since I don't have any air tools. All in all, I am very satisfied, and would recommend your company. Thank you. 206209

I had a hard time deciding on the amount of drop and the length of the hitch ball. The etrailer website provides sufficient information to allow an educated selection. I found this ball mount to fit easily inside a 2" receiver without too much free play. The hole placement gave just the amount of extension I wanted so that I can walk around the truck without banging my shins yet still have sufficient room to allow the trailer to be hitched easily. 103475

Exactly as etrailer described it on their site. One Drawtite 2923 ballmount. It is a superiorly made product which I have used for hauling my boat around the USA and Canada for many years. I decided to buy a second one so when friends and family borrow one of my trailers I need not take mine off my Pathfinder. etrailer prices were excellent and their shipping very fair priced and quick. I will not hesitate to buy all my trailering needs from them. 6767

Plug - n- Harness.----well it works....I had to dissasemble the whole rear cargo area of the Xterra to get to the connectors. The instructions from the manufacturer are terrible. Definately needs a picture with each step. This should not be attempted by a novice. 20618

Fits loosely into the hitch, along with a loose fitting pin. Thus, your trailer will constantly rattle and clang every 10th of a mile that you drive. It will drive you crazy and insane thinking that your trailer with your $50,000 boat or camper will disconnect and be left along the highway behind you for all semi-trucks to run over and shred to thousands of bits and pieces. 140122

It appeared to be less expensive to buy the hitch, ball mount, and ball all separately. there's not much to say, just get the one with the correct amount of rise/drop for your car and trailer. 2" rise is what I needed for my Grand Caravan and jet ski trailer. 23610

This is my second purchase from eTrailer.com. Their web site is easy to navigate and you are able to order what you need even if you don't know the first thing about trailer hitches. Their deliveries are always fast and accurate as well. Our next vehicle is just about ready for towing. Thanks eTrailer. 147310

Ordered with new hitch and very satisfied with overall fit & finish. Installed a 2" tow ball & the drop/rise looks to be very suitable for the application ('06 Titan). Very happy with the whole etrailer experience. Good products at a fair price & free ground delivery. What more could you ask for? 147413

Be aware that it is very difficult to get the nut on the ball tightened because it's hard to keep the whole thing from turning. Better to look for a receiver that has an indent machined where the base of the ball fits into the machined area to keep the ball from turning when tightening the nut. 97729

Comments

We always use a bench vise for this task. The vise grips the ball by the flats, with the threads up. Slide the ball mount on top, and finally the washer and nut. Ball mounts with pin stops, or add-on ball holders will do the job as well.

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Ball Mounts
Do you have a question about this Ball Mount?

  • How to Eliminate Rattle Between Ball Mount and Receiver While Towing
  • The amount of play or slop you are experiencing between your receiver and ball mount is caused by different manufacturing tolerances between the ball mount and receiver tube that the ball mount slides into. The receiver does not measure exactly 2 inches side to side. A receiver can be a few hundredths of an inch larger or smaller than 2 inches and still be considered within tolerance. The same goes for the shank on the ball mount. The shank is purposely made a bit smaller than 2 inches...

  • Choosing Extended Length Ball Mount to Provide Maximum Clearance Between Trailer and Tow Vehicle
  • If the trailer has an A-frame tongue on it, you should be in good shape unless you need to make a very tight 90 degree turn. We offer several different ball mounts in extended lengths. The longest ball mounts typically have a lower weight capacity. You will be best served getting the longest ball mount you can that has a capacity that exceeds the loaded weight of your trailer plus its load. If the trailer weight is not known, you can use a scale at a truck stop and have it weighed for...

  • What Does GTW and TW Mean and What is Weight Distribution, 2008 BMW X5
  • I can certainly help you out. The TW is the tongue weight. This is the weight of the trailer at the coupler that attaches to the ball mount on the trailer hitch. It should be 10 to 15 percent of the GTW or gross trailer weight. The gross trailer weight is the total weight of the trailer. Weight distribution is a system that installs on the trailer frame and the trailer couples to a special shank on the trailer hitch. The spring bars that come with a weight distribution system take some...

  • Can a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Ball Be Replaced with a 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball on a 2 Inch Hitch Receiver
  • To replace the hitch ball you would simply loosen and remove the hitch ball nut and pull the ball out of the ball mount hole. You may need a large wrench to loosen the nut. The Tow Ready 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19260, would be a great fit for your application, as it features a 1 inch diameter shank that should be compatible with your ball mount. Please note, however, that some ball mounts for 2 inch x 2 inch hitches require a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank. If your current...

Even if the hitch will have a higher weight capacity than your vehicles gross towing weight capacity the towing capacity is determined by the lowest weight capacity in your whole towing setup. • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2013 Ford Edge 3.5L TiVCT
  • According to the owner's manual for your 2013 Ford Edge if it has the 3.5 liter TiVCT and front wheel drive OR 3.5 liter TiVCT all wheel drive the maximum it can tow is 3,500 pounds. All other configurations of the vehicle are rated lower (page 249 in the manual). Even if a trailer hitch is rated higher you are still limited to the lowest rated component, in this case the vehicle, so you would not be able to tow 6,000 pounds.
