Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Ball Mount Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Draw-Tite 4 inch drop or 2 3/4 inch rise ball mount. Part number is 2753. We've got a 4 inch drop where you can rotate it over into a 2 3/4 inch rise to help you cover different bases. This is a hollow shank, so we're not so worried about it being really heavy, and a 3/4 inch wide ball mount platform, and the hole for the ball shank itself, that's going to be 1 inch. The ball mount itself is rated for 750 pounds of tongue weight, so that's the maximum downward force we can put down on top of the ball, and it's 7,500 pound gross trailer weight rating, so that's going to be the total weight of your trailer and anything that you load up. You'll want to go off the 7,500 pounds as a maximum unless your car is rated lower. Check your owner's manual, see what your car's tow rating is, and follow whichever of those numbers would be the lowest. The ball mount will be ideal for lots of different applications, your medium and light duty trucks, SUVs, vans, cars.

The only real requirement you're going to have is a 2 inch x 2 inch receiver tube opening on your hitch. It will line up this pinhole with the pinhole in our hitch, slide through our pin, secure it with the clip. Now we'll be ready to grab whichever ball we need at the time. The materials of the kit, of course, are ball mount. We've got heavy duty steel.

It'll be black powder coat finished. Let's hook up our trailer, and we'll be able to hit the road. That's going to complete our look at the Draw-Tite ball mount, part number 2753.

Working in the sand and grass of my driveway my wife and I installed our new etrailer receiver hitch. Great fit and finish! Went right on as described in the online guide. Hitch required a spacer washer on top back bolt attachment point. Taped it on so it would not move while lifting in place and it stayed right there! Used a car jack to raise up and hold the hitch into the underside of the trunk tighten the bolts and reattached the tail pipe done. Now we can pull our Sunfish Sailboat any where the car will go. 154242

My F150 had an OEM 4 pin trailer plug and hitch. The 118242 - 7 pin connector with wiring harness is the ticket. The hardest part of the install was dropping the spare tire. The plugs connect directly to the factory plugs and the harness length is the correct length. The 3035-P brake controller connector harness was just as easy. Plugs right in to the OEM plug next to the ECM connector and the other end into the brake controller. The PK12711U-26 - 7 pin bracket and hardware kit fastens directly the OEM bracket that is on the hitch. My truck had an OEM 4 pin trailer towing set up with the hitch. The OEM hitch had the bracket welded on it to attach the 7 pin mounting bracket to it. These kits make this install very easy and professional looking. If I have one complaint, the hardware kit to attach the 7 pin connector bracket is set up to fasten the bracket directly to the bumper with 2 - self tapping screws provided in the kit. The kit also includes 4 #12 machine screws with toothed washer nuts to attached the 7 pin connector to the bracket. This is fine if your truck hitch doesn't have an attaching bracket welded to it. The kit should included in it 6 #12 machine screws and nuts along with the 2 self tapping screws. Since my OEM hitch actually had a bracket welded to it to attach the 7 pin bracket to it, I had to use two other #12 screws and nuts to attach the 7 pin bracket to the OEM bracket on the hitch. Not a big deal, just a thought. It took me about 2 hours, start to finish to install the 7 pin connector, trailer controller, and add the two relays in the OEM relay/fuse box under the hood. I highly recommend these kits. 322338

Well made 2 inch drawbar. The only shortcoming is that the 2 inch ball shank has no drilled hole to fit a cotter pin. 730070

It looks like you paired the Curt 2 Inch Ball # 40038
2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter x 2-1/4" Long Shank - Chrome - 12,000 lbs
$11.19
with this ball mount - great option. That hitch ball, and none of our other hitch ball options, feature a hole in the shank to fit a cotter pin. The hitch ball should be installed and torqued to the specifications provided by the manufacturer with the hitch ball.

I chose the Draw tight Max Frame Trailer Hitch for its known quality, i like it comes powder coated to reduce unsightly rust and to keep that fresh look. • When a vehicle like your 2017 Honda CR-V AWD Touring has both `1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches available I always recommend the 2-inch option. The larger hitch does NOT give your car more capacity to tow but the 2-inch hitch size is much more common and you will be able to find more products that fit this hitch size. As you say, it also gives you safety margin or a bit of "insurance". I recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 76128. The hitch will likely block the center-positioned...

Then measure from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver. Also measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler. If the hitch height is greater, you need a ball mount with drop. To measure the coupler height, you will measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler. Do this on level ground with the trailer level. On the truck, you will measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening, again with truck level on level ground. If the truck is taller, then you will need a drop equal to the difference....

  • How Tall is 2 Inch Diameter Hitch Ball Part # 19247
  • The ball measures 2-3/4 inches from the ball mount surface to the top of the ball. I am glad to see that you are making sure you get the proper ball mount for your tow set up. The rule of thumb is to be no more than 2 inches over or under. The easiest way to calculate this is to measure from the ground to the top of the inside of the receiver just like you did, then measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler where it would be about flush with the ball mount. I would...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendations for 2016 Acura RDX
  • Because the support strap you speak of would loop over the spoiler, there is a possibility that the weight applied to the strap could break the spoiler. Curt makes a great hitch, but I can't recommend them for every application because some vehicles aren't suited to using the strap (especially vehicles like your RDX that have the spoiler atop the hatch lid). I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 75784. Unlike the Curt hitch, Draw-Tite doesn't have a warranty stipulation...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring Harness, Transmission Cooler and Suspension Enhancement for 2012 Honda Odyssey
  • Let's begin with the trailer hitch. The Curt Class III trailer hitch, part # C13068 offers the best ground clearance of the available Class III hitches so that's the hitch I'd recommend. For the trailer wiring harness, I'd go with the # 118521 from Tow Ready. You'll also need a ball mount like # 2753 and a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use # 19261 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. In the owner's manual, Honda strongly recommends installing a supplemental transmission cooler, like...

  • How Do I Know How High The Ball Should Sit Above the Ground
  • This will depend on the hitch used and the height of the trailer coupler. You want the trailer to be as level as possible. We have a page on calculating hitch height and coupler height to help you find what ball mount would work best. Most light duty trailers are 16-17 inches in coupler height, so we recommend ball mounts on the hitch pages that will give that particular vehicle 16-17 inches on the ball mount. The ball mount that provides 16-17 inches height for a 2008 Hyundai Entourage...

  • How to Determine Correct Ball Mount Rise or Drop for Towing a Trailer with a 17 Inch Coupler Height
  • Normally trailer coupler height is around 17 inches, from the ground to the bottom of the coupler, and most hitch manufacturers design their hitches to work with a ball mount that will end up very close to this measurement. I am including a link to an instruction page detailing how to measure for the correct ball mount and how to measure the ball mount. With the Curt Trailer Hitch, item # 13555, for your 2008 Honda CRV the recommended ball mount is the Draw-Tite Ball Mount, item # 2753,...
