Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - C45518 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number C45518. This is a Curt Class 2 Draw Bar. Has a nice sturdy steel construction, is corrosion resistant with a black gloss powder coat finish. This also goes through a high quality manufacturing process for strong consistent cuts and welds and a 7 stage washing method that's really going to help deliver a nice, clean, smooth surface. Both the drop and the rise positions are available to help ensure level towing. As shown, it's in the rise position which should offer a rise of 3/4 inch, measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube to the top of the ball platform. When installed in the drop position, it's going to give us a drop of an inch and 1/4 of an inch, perform that same measurement from this point here to this point here. You can see that it is a solid piece of steel. The platform here is connected with welds at the top but the shank is a nice solid shank . The only hallow point is where your hitch pin goes. inaudible 00:01:04 nice solid surface on the back, you're not going to have a lot of dirt given there and build up. This portion here is the portion that slides into the receiver tube of your hitch.

You can line up the pin hole and then insert a pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. These items are sold separately. You can refer to the ball mounts product page under related items to view these products or go to our website and type in part number PC2 inaudible 00:01:28 half in pin that comes with the clip. Now this is designed to work with an 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 trailer hitch receiver because of the weight capacity at 3500 pounds. It does classifies as a class 2 draw bar, but it will also fit into a class 1. Just keep in mind your weight rating and your tow capacity when doing so. Gross towing weight is 3500 pound with a maximum towing weight capacity of 350 pounds. When choosing a hitch ball, you want to make sure that the shank of your hitch ball does not exceed the ball hole diameter which for this mount measures 3/4 of an inch. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole is going to measure 6 3/4 of an inch.

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the weld here or this point is going to be about 2 1/2 inches. From the back of the mount to the center of the hitch pin hole we have about 1 1/2. So that's how much room you're going to have in the back of your receiver tube past the center of your hitch pin hole. It's a really nice little ball mount. Overall, it gives us a length of right around 9 1/2 inches. That's going to complete today's review of part number C45518. This is the Curt Class 2 Draw Bar. Rated at 3500 pounds.

The whole process was as painless as it could possibly be. After reviewing my choices on their website, I ordered the trailer hitch by phone. Cathy was knowledgeable and efficient and everything I need was quickly ordered. Shipping time was short and I was very satisfied with the packaging. The hitch itself looked great. Installation instructions were clear and it is easily a do it yourself project. I had a local garage install mine and it took less than 15 minutes. ($25). The only "problem" I had was that the receiver I ordered came with a lock pin so I did not really need the separate pin I ordered. However, it's always good to have a spare. 290063

Great, well built hitch. Exactly the size we needed, as most other hitches were too long and stuck out behind out Subaru Outback way to far. This one was perfect for our needs, and the towing specifications where perfect for our Outback too! 23784

  • Towing Malone Kayak Trailer With 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
  • I took a look at the owner's manual of a 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the only specification I found about towing was that Toyota does not recommend Highlanders "with SE grade" tow a trailer so you would seem to be fine but the final word rests with the Toyota dealer and I recommend contacting them with your VIN so they can tell you with authority what your vehicle is capable of. Assuming you are fine to tow, in order to use the Malone XtraLight Trailer with V-Style Kayak Carriers # MPG526G-V...

  • Recommended Ball Mount Without Hitch Ball for Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • We have over 100 options of ball mounts without a hitch ball. The short ball mount is where the issue may come in. I assume you want one that is 2 inches from the receiver opening collar and we don't have that specific measurement as different manufacturers have different collars on their hitches and each one is vehicle specific fit. I recommend the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C45030 for a 2 inch receiver or # C45518 for a 1-1/4 inch receiver. I've linked the page to all of your...

  • How to Select the Proper Ball Mount for a 2008 Ford Explorer with 1-1/4 inch Factory Receiver Hitch
  • Your 2008 Ford Explorer with factory 1-1/4 inch hitch should use a Class II draw bar. The factory hitch on your Explorer has a slightly higher receiver so it is important to measure to determine the correct ball mount for your vehicle and the trailer. You can measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the explorer, then with the trailer tongue level measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler where it goes over the ball. If the truck measurement is higher...

Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height...
