Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - C45220 Review

Today we're going to review part number C45220. This is the Curt Dual-Length Ball Mount for two-inch hitches with a 7500-pound weight capacity. This ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here will slide into your vehicle's two-inch hitch receiver opening and it's secured in place by either a hitch pin and clip through one of the holes, or a hitch lock. The pin and clip and the hitch lock we do sell separately on our website, they are not included with this part. They are listed on this product page as a related product.

Here's an example, I pulled a hitch pin and clip that would fit onto this. The ball platform right here, this will provide a mounting part for the hitch ball. In other words, the hitch ball will go through the hole and tighten into place. The hitch ball again is sold separately, it is not included with the ball mount. You'd have to get the correct one for your application.

Again, they are listed on this product page as a related product. This is called a dual-length ball mount, and the reason that is, is if you'll notice it has two separate pin holes to let you change the length of your shank. When you install this, depending on which hole you put this, it will give a different length to the shank. Also this ball mount has both the drop and the rise positions, which are available to ensure level towing between your trailer and your tow vehicle. It has a sturdy, hollow steel shank, proves maximum strength and durability and has a nice corrosion-resistant, high-gloss black powder coat finish. This part is made in the USA.

Again, the specs on this, the application is designed to fit two-inch by two-inch trailer hitch receivers. Gross towing weight capacity 7500 pounds, ton weight capacity is 750 pounds. On measuring a ball mount, the length of the ball mount is calculated by measuring from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole and since we have two different ones here, we'll have two different lengths to measure. So what I'm going to do is put a ruler on it and go from the center of the ball hole. If you go to the center of the first hole it's going to be seven and a half inches, right here, and the second hole would be ten and a half inches. So the length to this first hitch pin hole is seven and a half, to the second is ten and a half inches. Also, a couple of other measurements that they give you is a rise and a drop.

This would be in the drop position. One thing that I want to let you know that on Curt hitches, they stamp on here the rise and the drop but what they actually do is they round off the rise and the drop measurements. What we're going to do right now is give you the exact measurements. In the drop position, the drop is measured from the top of the shank to the ball mount platform. If we put a ruler on that, the drop's going to be two and three-eighths inches. The rise is when you flip this over and install this in the rise position and again it's measured, top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. If we put a ruler on this, it's going to be right at one inch, to give you a one-inch rise. Another critical measurement is the ball hole diameter, which is this hole right here where the hitch ball attaches to. This is a one-inch diameter. Put that measurement on there. See that's one-inch diameter and that's critical because when you get your hitch ball, here's an example of a hitch ball for this 00:03:12. You want to make sure the shank diameter will match that diameter of the ball hole on your ball mount. You want to get a one-inch shank diameter hitch ball to fit on this. The pin holes' diameter are going to be five-eighths of an inch and that's the size of your hitch pin that will slide through here. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty. What I do want to show you is I've got an example of a two-inch by two-inch hitch receiver opening. If you go to install this in the drop position, like it is there, you just slide it in, line up, we're going to do the furthest hole. You put your pin through there, put your clip in there, and you can see the distance being in the farthest hole right here. If you want to change that, just pull the clip out, pull the pin out, slide the hole further in, line that hole up, line that up, put your pin and clip in, and you can see how it's closer to the tow vehicle. If you want to put it in rise position, you slide it out, flip it over, slide it in, and again choose whichever hole you want it in. Simple as that. That should do it for the review on part number C45220, the Curt Dual-Length Ball Mount for two-inch hitches with the 7500-pound weight capacity. .

This product served me very well. I wanted a longer fit in my receiver than the one I had. This worked great on the inside hole. I did have a problem with the hitch hitting my spare tire at this location which required me to cut about 3/4" off of the back side of the hitch. 655307

Want to thank you for a great product. I needed a product with a longer shank and the two hole shank is a bonus, this is on the back of a Ford F-150 that pulls a boat or Harley trailer. Thanks again 559532

Ask the Experts about this Curt Ball Mounts

Do you have a question about this Ball Mount?

  • Is there a Curt Dual Length Ball Mount with a 2 Inch Drop
  • Getting the right drop (or rise) is important for sure. Curt does have ball mount # C45220 which is a dual length ball mount with a 2-3/8 inch drop. But they do not have one that is exactly 2 inches. The extra 3/8 of an inch is still well within acceptable limits of what is considered level so it is a great option that will work for you. You don't want to drill any holes in a ball mount because doing so will void the warranty and could actually compromise the structural integrity of...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for 2 inch Hitch with Ball Mount with 3/4 inch Shank Diameter
  • The Curt ball mount # C45220 will have a 2-3/8 inch drop and ball hole diameter of 1-inch. Since you have a hitch ball with a 3/4 inch diameter shank you'll need the reducer bushing part # C21100 and you'll be set.

  • Availability of a Ball Mount with a 3-Inch Drop and 3/4 Inch Ball Hole Diameter
  • I have two options for you to consider The Curt ball mount # C45220 will have a 2-3/8 inch drop and ball hole diameter of 1-inch. It's the closest to the 3-inch drop you referenced but currently there isn't any with a 3-inch drop only. The gross towing weight of the Curt ball mount is 7,500 pounds and tongue weight is 750 pounds. You can use a hitch ball bushing # 320000 to reduce the diameter of the hitch ball hole from 1-inch to 3/4 inch. See the picture I included. Another fixed...
