Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Availability of Curt Ball Mount # C45070 with Ball
For the Curt Ball Mount (4" Rise and 6" Drop) # C45070 that comes with a hitch ball you can use part # C45065 for a 2-5/16" ball or # C45064 for a 2" ball. Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position. It will require a bit of force to remove the ball so that you can flip the mount but you can certainly do this if needed. Otherwise you can simply order...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for Trailer Needing 4 inches of Rise
You are really close to getting the correct rise drop but on the trailer side you measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler lip instead. So you'd most likely have about 21 inches on that side compared to the 18 inches on the vehicle and would need 3 inch of rise. But if you are squatting that much I'd compensate with the ball mount if at all possible. So for that the Curt ball mount part # C45070 is a really great option as it has 4 inches of rise.

  • Torque Specs for 2" Hitch Ball on Curt Ball Mount # C45070
For a 2 inch hitch ball that will work perfectly with the Curt Ball Mount # C45070 you mentioned I recommend the Tow Ready # 63845. When installing the ball it should be torqued down to 250 foot pounds. I have attached a couple short video reviews on these products that you can check out as well.

  • How to Choose a Ball Mount to Correct for Different Hitch and Trailer Heights
When the trailer hitch on the vehicle and the coupler on the trailer have different heights you can use a ball mount with the required amount of rise or drop to allow the hitched trailer to remain level. It is important to keep the trailer's frame level when towing for better handling. Since your trailer's coupler is about 4-1/2-inches taller than your hitch receiver you will want to select a ball mount that has about 4-inches of RISE, to bring the hitch ball up to the height of the...

  • Locating Correct Ball Mount to Connect with Trailer on Mazda CX-5 with Low Ground Clearance
I do have a solution for you, however there is definitely not enough ground clearance at the hitch connection between your Mazda CX-5 and 6x12 utility trailer. Any slight incline or bump in the road is going to cause issues with your current setup. To add clearance while also ensuring that the trailer itself is level when connected (it's a little hard to tell in the picture but it does appear that the tongue/trailer is nose low), you will need a ball mount with a larger rise such as...

  • How to Pick Out Rise Ball Mount for 2017 Nissan Pathfinder Hitch
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation Made by Reese with 6 inches Of Drop
The Curt ball mount, part # C45070, would be the closest thing we offer to what you described. This ball mount is made by the same company as Reese so it is basically a Reese ball mount for all intents and purposes. The ball mount can do 6 inches of drop which is as close as we have to the drop you mentioned. Since typically the rear of a vehicle will sag slightly it's best to go slightly higher when picking out a ball mount than needed if the exact dimension isn't available. I attached...

  • 4 inch Rise Ball Mount Recommendation for a Mazda CX-7
You should have no problem using a ball mount with a total rise of 4 inches on the 2 inch hitch of your Mazda CX-7. The ball mount wouldn't put any undue stress on the hitch. Hitches are designed for use with ball mounts that have varying heights to allow for trailers to be towed level and a 4 inch rise is a very common amount of rise needed. For a ball mount that has a 4 inch rise you would want the part # C45070. I attached a review video for this ball mount for you to check out as well.

  • 6 inch Long Ball Mount Recommendation
Sounds like you are looking for a ball mount with at leas 6 inches from the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. The part # C45030 would work well for this but it's a little bit longer at 7-1/4 inches. Or if you need a 6 inch drop you would want the # C45070 would work as well.

  • Recommended Ball Mount for a 3-1/2 Inch Rise For a Class III Hitch Receiver on 2015 Subaru Crosstrek
If you measured without any cargo weight in the back of your tow vehicle, then you may want to add the load you would normally carry when towing and measure again. The 4 inch rise ball mount from Curt # C45070 would be a better option if that weight brings your trailer closer to level with a 4 inch rise. You will have some compression of your suspension when you add any weight to the tow vehicle and remember you will be adding the tongue weight of your trailer to that. This could cause...

  • Selecting Ball Mount with Correct Drop for Lifted 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic
The best solution for towing your trailer level with a lifted truck is a ball mount that provides the amount of drop you need. This is preferred over using a high/low hitch adapter since it will not cause any loss of hitch capacity, which can occur with adapters. I linked our main page for ball mounts as well as an article that will help you select the correct one to allow your hitched travel trailer to remain level.
