Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - C45070 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C45070. This is the Curt ball mount for 2 inch hitches. It's rated at 7500 pounds. The ball mount is where you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. This portion of the mount is going to be called our shank. This is going to slide into the receiver tube of our hitch.

This portion of our ball mount is going to be called the ball platform. This is going to provide the mounting point for your hitch ball. If you don't already have a hitch ball, they are going to be sold separately. The ball hole diameter is going to measure 1 inch. When choosing the hitch ball, you're going to want to make sure the shank of the hitch ball matches up with the ball hole diameter of whatever mount you choose. You can use this in either the drop position, which is this position that I'm showing you now, or you can use it in the rise position which is simply just flipping it over inside your hitch.

You do need to reorient the hitch ball accordingly. Both positions are available to help ensure a nice level tow. This unit is made from a sturdy steel construction. Featuring a corrosion resistant high-gloss black powder coat finish. Once you have your pinholes lined up inside your hitch, you're going to need to secure it with a hitch pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock.

It's going to give us a diameter of 5/8 of an inch. Those units are going to be sold separately. If you don't already have one, you can find a hitch pin and clip with part number C21500 or a hitch lock with part number 7683. This unit's designed for 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. If we take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of hitch ball hole, that's going to give us a measurement of about 9 and 1/4 of an inch. The distance that we have from the back of this brace, measuring at the base of the weld to the center of the hitch pin hole, it looks like it's give us a measurement of about 2 and 7/8 of an inch.

The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank is going to be 2 1/2 inches. The reason why I wanted to give you the measurement from the brace to the hitch pin hole, is because when using the rise position, sometimes, depending on your vehicle, the outermost point of your vehicle can come really close to making contact with this. You can simply go out to your vehicle, take a measurement from the pinhole on your hitch, and measure out to the most rear point of your vehicle. And, just make sure that you have enough clearance for this mount to be used in the rise position. This is an angled brace. The higher up that rearmost point sits, the more that, that measurement I gave you is going to increase. Just something to keep in mind, dkon't want you to get something and it not be able to work the way you want it to. When you have this installed in the drop position, measuring from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform, it's going to give you a drop of 5 and 3/4 of an inch. In this position, your gross towing weight is 7500 pounds and your tongue weight is 750 pounds. Here on the sticker, it says that it gives us a drop of 6 inches. These are rounded off measurements. The measurements I'm giving you are exact. In the rise position, from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform, it's going to give us a rise of 4 and 1/4. The sticker says 4, so it's really close but that 1/4 inch can make a difference. In this position your gross towing weight is now 6000 pounds and your tongue weight is now 600 pounds. Curt is going to cover this with a limited lifetime warranty. Real quick, I just want to go ahead and show you how easily it installs inside of your hitch. Simply take your mount, slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch so your pinholes line up with one another. Again, you'll take your hitch pin and clip or hitch pin and lock. Again, those are sold separately. Secure the unit inside of your hitch. That's going to do it for our review of part number C45070. This is the Curt ball mount for 2 inch hitches. .

The ball arrived quickly and it appears to very strong with good welds. The only issue I have is that it already had two good sized chips in the powder coating when it arrived. Probably from the ball that was also in the box. It could have used better packaging so the two items were not able to bang together. I did not ask for a replacement because it will surely get chipped during usage anyway. 385432

I have been very pleased with this product so far and am extremely pleased with the Customer Service I have received from etrailer. I originally ordered a ball mount with a 8" drop. After receiving it and trying it out I found that I miscalculated and my boat trailer was not sitting level. I contacted etrailer and received an email with a UPS prepaid shipping label the next day. The whole thing could not have been easier on my end. That is how it should be done. Thanks to the etrailer team. Mike 377973

Fits perfectly in the rise position on our ‘84 Dodge B250 Ram van that has a class III Draw-Tite hitch. There is about 1 1/2” clearance between the vertical brace on the front of the ball mount, and the vehicle bumper. Be sure to watch the product video. It gives you all of the measurements you need to see if it will fit your vehicle. 617042

Ask the Experts about this Curt Ball Mounts

  • Availability of Curt Ball Mount # C45070 with Ball
For the Curt Ball Mount (4" Rise and 6" Drop) # C45070 that comes with a hitch ball you can use part # C45065 for a 2-5/16" ball or # C45064 for a 2" ball. Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position. It will require a bit of force to remove the ball so that you can flip the mount but you can certainly do this if needed. Otherwise you can simply order...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation Made by Reese with 6 inches Of Drop
The Curt ball mount, part # C45070, would be the closest thing we offer to what you described. This ball mount is made by the same company as Reese so it is basically a Reese ball mount for all intents and purposes. The ball mount can do 6 inches of drop which is as close as we have to the drop you mentioned. Since typically the rear of a vehicle will sag slightly it's best to go slightly higher when picking out a ball mount than needed if the exact dimension isn't available. I attached...

  • How to Pick Out Rise Ball Mount for 2017 Nissan Pathfinder Hitch
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height...

  • 4 inch Rise Ball Mount Recommendation for a Mazda CX-7
You should have no problem using a ball mount with a total rise of 4 inches on the 2 inch hitch of your Mazda CX-7. The ball mount wouldn't put any undue stress on the hitch. Hitches are designed for use with ball mounts that have varying heights to allow for trailers to be towed level and a 4 inch rise is a very common amount of rise needed. For a ball mount that has a 4 inch rise you would want the part # C45070. I attached a review video for this ball mount for you to check out as well.

It is important to keep the trailer's frame level when towing for better handling. The 4 inch rise ball mount from Curt # C45070 would be a better option if that weight brings your trailer closer to level with a 4 inch rise.
