Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - C45001 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt tri-ball mount, part number C45001. This tri-ball mount has three different chrome balls. It has a 2-5/16" ball, a 2" ball, and a 1-7/8" ball mounted on a hollow enclosed shank. It has a black powder-coat finish, and it fits in a 2" trailer hitch receiver. The towing capacity of each of the balls: For the 1-7/8" ball it has a gross towing weight capacity of 5,000 lbs.; the 2" ball has a gross towing weight capacity of 7,500 lbs.; and the 2-5/16" ball has a towing weight of 10,000 pounds. We're going to bring out our 2" trailer hitch receiver demonstrator to show you how this would work.

Now if you need to use the 2-5/16", you would simply slide that in there, get your pin and clip. This does not come with the ball hitch; however, you can get this right here on etrailer.com, part number PC3. And you slide that right through there and clip that off. Taking a look at some dimensions. From the center of the ball hole here to the center of the hitch pin here, that is 7".

And if you want to use either the 2" ball or the 1-7/8" ball, and we'll go ahead and use the 1-7/8", you'll again match the hole, put the pin in, and clip that off. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball for both the 1-7/8" ball and the 2" ball is 8-1/2". That should do it for our Curt tri-ball mount, part number C45001.

This item should solve the problem I have had with a stainless 3-way ball when I tried to reverse the position on the ball mount. The threads galled between the hex nut and hitch ball. 80568

Excellent product! With the three different ball sizes, this tri-ball mount gives you a lot of flexibility. Gone are the days of having several different ball mounts to fit different tongues. High quality construction makes this an excellent investment. 46474

The product is what I wanted at a good price, was not real tight fit into the receiver. but for the light towing I do, it is adequate. 41372

Ask the Experts about this Curt Ball Mounts

Do you have a question about this Ball Mount?

  • Why Does Curt Tri-Ball Mount Fit So Loose in Hitch Receiver
  • The shank of accessories such as Curt ball mount # C45001 have to be a little smaller than the receiver opening so they are easy to install and remove. This can cause the fit to be a little looser than some people like. It actually spawned several products to reduce or eliminate movement of accessories in hitches: anti-rattle devices. What I recommend is to use an anti-rattle device such as # BX88224. This device takes out movement vertically and horizontally. I have included a link...

  • Straight Shank Ball Mount Recommendation For a 1/2 Inch Drop
  • In this instance, I recommend using a ball mount with a straight shank, like the Curt Tri-Ball Mount # C45001. Once the trailer is coupled to the ball, the tongue weight of the trailer will pull down a bit on the truck and you will be near the 1/2 inch drop you measured. The # C45001 offers a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, 2 inch hitch ball, and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. The ball mount has a capacity of 10,000 pounds with the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. We do not recommend using washers to raise...

  • Recommended Ball Mount with 1-7/8 Inch Diameter Hitch Ball for 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The 2018 Toyota 4Runner comes with a 2 inch hitch receiver that is commonly referred to as a Class III hitch. There are ball mounts that will allow for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball that will fit your trailer hitch receiver. For the most adjustable option, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10048B which will give you the 3 standard hitch ball sizes and give you the ability to adjust vertically for your trailer coupler height to tow level. It also has a nice stowable feature...

  • Three Ball Ball Mount # C45001 Recommended for 9000 lb Boat and 7500 lb Travel Trailer
  • The triple ball ball mount with the highest capacity we offer is the Curt # C45001. The 1-7/8 inch ball has a 5000 lb capacity, the 2 inch ball can handle 7500 lbs and the 2-5/16 inch ball is rated for 10,000 lbs. Another option you have is a Rapid Hitch Adjustable, Locking, Aluminum Ball Mount Kit, part # AM3400. I am sorry, we do not offer a ball mount manufacturer by the name of Kearns, and I could not find one from the research I conducted.

  • What is the Height of Each of the Three Hitch Balls on Curt Tri Ball Mount
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled the Curt Tri Ball Mount, part # C45001, and took some measurements for you. I measured from the shank to the top of the hitch ball. The 2-5/16" hitch ball measures 2-3/4" tall. The 2" hitch ball measures 2-1/2" tall. The 1-7/8" hitch ball measures 2-3/8" tall. Check out the photo I made of these measurements. I have also included a video review of this tri ball mount for your reference.
