Video Transcript for Convert-A-Ball Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - AMSC6 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number AMSC6. This is a Convertible Cushioned Ball Mount for a 2" by 2" trailer hitches. It's made from a steel construction and it has a really nice powder coded finish on it, which is really going to help us stand up against rusting and corrosion. On the inside, we have 2 polyurethane cushions, which is really going to help protect the tow vehicle's drive line and hitch assembly as well as your trailer's contents. What that polyurethane interior does is it actually acts as a shock absorber helping to reduce any balance or vibration that you may have when towing. It's a really simple installation. You simply just take your mount and slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch, then line up your pin holes and insert the pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. Those items are sold separately.

You can refer to the bottom of the product page under the related items to review those products or go to our website and type in number PC3 and that will refer you to the pin I'm using today. It's just a standard 5/8" pin and it comes with a clip. The distance that we have from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of our ball hole is going to measure 10 1/4". The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of our ball mount is going to measure about 2 3/4" and then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright portion here that connects to our ball platform is going to measure about 5 1/2". With it installed in the drop position, if it measures from the inside top edge of the receiver tube to the top of our ball platform, it's going to give us a drop of 6". To flip it over to the rise position, we simply just take the mount out, rotate it, and reinsert it. Now, another measurement to be aware of in this position is the location of the angle bar here at the back of the upright assembly.

We measure from that closest point to the center of the hitch pin hole. We have about 4" in between those 2 points. This ball mount has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a time weight capacity of 2,000 pounds. When choosing a hitch ball, you want to make sure that your hitch ball shank does not exceed the ball hole diameter and for this mount today it's going to give us the diameter of right at 1". When we measure the draw bar, which is this portion here, it has a fitness of 1" and a width of right around 2 1/2". That's going to complete today's review of part number AMSC6. That's a convertible Cushioned Ball Mount for the 2" by 2" style fitting for your trailer hitch graded at 10,000 pounds. .

Its was the right drop for the height of my truck, and works as well and maybe even better than my last hitch. I think it might be do to the covert a ball I am using with it which lets me tow different trailer with different size ball's. 248457

The cushioned ball mounts are absolutely wonderful. You never know there is a load behind you, you never feel the trailer behind you slamming or pulling. I have three cushioned ball mounts with 2,4,&6" drops for my trailers. 243256

Awesome product. I tow an 18 enclosed trailer with 4 big Harleys and I never know that trailer is behind me. Cushioned ball mounts are the only type ball mounts to purchase.

Works great and very durable. I have a Silverado with a 6 inch lift on 35's and the 6 inch drop works perfect for my 28 foot boat on a triple axle extreme trailer and the 10 inch drop works perfectly for my dads double axle trailer. I had the aluminum 10 inch adjustable hitch if you guys are familiar with that and it works great but I bought The rock tamers mudflap system and the neck that goes into the receiver is too short. I had to buy new hitches for the rock tamers mudflaps system and I knew my drop size already and these ones are working perfectly. 171100

  • Will The Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC6 Help Reduce Bounce On Coachmen Clipper Trailer
The item you selected, Cushioned Ball Mount, part # AMSC6, will help a bit in any noise or bounce of the drawbar. The recommended rise and drop for a ball mount on your 2011 Volkswagen Routan is 2 inch rise and 4 inch drop. You will need to use Cushioned Ball Mount, part # AMSC4. Another thing that can contribute to the rough ride you are feeling is low tongue weight. The tongue weight on your Coachmen Clipper 1285 SST may be very low. Proper loading of the trailer, with heavier items...

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount, # AMSC6 can be used with the Reese Sway Control Bracket, part # RP26003. The bracket and ball mount are compatible with a trailer ball that has a 1 inch diameter threaded shank. This ball mount can be used in the rise position.

  • How to Determine if the a RockTamers Mudflap System Will Be Compatible with Convert a Ball Mount
Your Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System # ERT00108 requires 1 inch of clearance on the shank of the ball mount to fit like what you see in the picture I attached. That means that you would need to have at most 3 inches from your hitch pin hole on your 2016 Ford F-150 to the end of the hitch opening for the Rocktamer to fit on the AMSC6. I attached a picture for it as well that shows that it has 4 inches from the center of the ball hole to the bracket for the ball mount...

  • Will Curt Hitch Ball 40038 Work with Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC6
The Curt 2" Hitch Ball # 40038 that you referenced will work perfectly with the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC6. This hitch ball features the needed 1" diameter shank and it's plenty long enough for a secure attachment. If you had a level setup with your 5-1/4" drop ball mount this 6" drop # AMSC6 is the better choice over the 4" drop model. This is because the rear of your tow vehicle is going to sag/drop just a bit when the trailer is hooked up, which will bring you closer to that original...

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount for 2 Inch Hitches # AMSC6 that you referenced can be used with a surge coupler for hydraulic brakes, but you may notice a difference in how the trailer tows. We have had customers write reviews on both sides of the issue. Some have had no problems while others noticed it affected the braking of their trailer. • Ball Mount with 6 inch Drop and Interchangeable Ball Set Recommendation
The thickness of the sway control bracket part # RP26003 that you would need is 3/8 of an inch. The ball mount you are interested in part # AMSC6 calls for a shank that is 2-1/8 inches long. So the interchangeable ball set you would need would be the # 900b as it comes with a 2-1/2 inch long shank.

  • Choosing the Right Ball Mount for 2 Different Trailers and a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 w/2-1/2 Inch Hitch
First, I would use a 2-1/2 inch ball mount for the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your 2013 Dodge Ram 2500. Going with the matching size will fit better than using a reducer sleeve. Normally I would say an adjustable ball mount is the way to go except you have reservations about them. If you change your mind I have included a link to the adjustable ball mounts that fit a 2-1/2 inch receiver. For fixed ball mounts you will need to do some measuring to determine the correct rise or drop you will...

  • Recommendation to Help Back and Forth Movement in Trailer Hitch While Towing
To help alleviate the back and forth chucking you are experiencing with your 2 inch receiver there are a couple of things I recommend doing. First is to use a cushioned ball mount, the Convert-A-Ball, which is designed to reduce this type of movement and additional road shock with its polyurethane cushioning interior; if you take a look at the accompanying diagram it displays the cushioned inside of the ball mount. I will list the different rise and drop available for this ball mount below....

I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you'd then want the # 118521 which is a confirmed fit as well and is the most reliable option we have. • Will a Cushioned Ball Mount Work with Surge Trailer Brakes
The cushion inside of the Convert-A-Ball cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 would have only a slight affect on the surge coupler on your trailer. You may not even notice it. The cushion is very dense and the more pressure that is put on it the firmer it gets. It would take more force to compress that cushion than to actuate the surge coupler. Cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 has a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop but there are other options if you need a different rise or drop to tow the trailer...

You can get get a hitch ball with a 1 inch diameter shank that will give you 2 inches of rise with a 2 inch ball # C40034, though that is going to limit your towing capacity to 6,000 lbs. If you needed to stick with a 10,000 lb towing capacity, then you would need a new ball mount, # C45338 for 8 inches of drop, # AMSC6 for 6 inches of drop or if four inches of drop was needed, # AMSC4. I have added links to video reviews of each of these ball mounts for you to take a look at.
