Video Transcript for Brophy Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - EA80 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy aluminum ball mount. Now a ball mount is going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank is going to slide into the receiver tube of your hitch and then the ball platform is going to provide the mounting point for your hitch ball. Your hitch ball is sold separately but if you are in need of one you can find them right here at etrailer.com. The platform thickness is going to measure one inch and the ball hole diameter on the mound is going give us a diameter on one inch so just make sure to keep that in mind when choosing a hitch ball. The unit's made from a heavy-duty aluminum construction, it's very strong and durable, it's light weight.

It's going to be highly resistance to rust and corrosion. Solid one piece design so you don't have to worry about any cuts or welds or joints or anything like that. You can use this in either the drop or rise position, so both positions are available to help ensure level towing. To get it secured in your hitch it is going to require a hitch clip and pin or a hitch lock. Those items are sold separately, if you are in need of one you can find them here at etrailer.com. The pin holes on this ball mount will accept a standard five eighths inch diameter pin.

It is designed for a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. It's going to offer a max gross towing weight of 8,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 800 pounds. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. I'm going to take a look at the overall length, measuring from edge to edge. That looks like it's going to give a measurement of about fifteen and one quarter of an inch, and then if we tale a measurement from the center of the ball hole to the center of the hitch pin hole, that's going to give a measurement of right around eleven and one quarter of an inch. The distance that we have from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank, that's going to measure around two and five eighths of an inch.

Now when using this in the rise position you want to be sure that you have enough clearance from the rear most part of your vehicle to the upright portion here. What we're going to do is we're going to take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the beginning of the bend or the upright portion and the measurement I actually give you is actually going to increase as we go up the mount here. What you can do is you can go out your vehicle, measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear most part of your vehicle and if your measurement is lest then the measurement that I'm going to give you, then this would work for your application without any issues. Measuring from the center of the hitch pin hole to the base of that bend, that's going to give us a measurement, that looks to measure four and one eighths of an inch. Then again that measurement is going to increase the higher up we go so if the rear most part of your vehicle sits significantly higher then your hitch then that four and one eighths measurement is going to increase as we go up. Now when using this in the rise position, that would be this position right here. It's going to give you a maximum rise of seven inches.

That's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of your hitch to the top of the ball platform. When using it in the drop position it will give you a maximum drop of eight inches. It's a very simple installation process, all you have to do is slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch line up you pin hole and then secure it with a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock. The one I'll be using for our demonstration to day is part number PC3, will be found right here at etrailer.com, that's going to be your standard five eighths diameter pin and it's going to come with a clip. That's going to do it for today's look at the Brophy aluminum ball mount.

The Trophy Ball Mount 7" rise, 8" drop has been awesome. I always have had stainless steel and steel ball mounts in the past. I was quite surprised at the capacities and have been extremely happy with how lightweight it is. Due to a vehicle change and different height in hitch, we had to get a larger drop in order for the trailer to be level. I was dreading working with a large steel drop hitch due to the weight, I'm so happy I found this Brophy aluminum one on ETrailer. 381314

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2014 Toyota Sienna to Tow a Boat Trailer Level
  • Since the coupler height on the trailer is 18 inches and the receiver height on the 2014 Toyota Sienna is 11-1/4 inches a ball mount with a 4 inch rise will not be high enough to tow the trailer level. You would need a ball mount with a 6-3/4 inch rise (or something very close) to tow the trailer level. Let's first make sure we measure things the same way. We measure the receiver height the same as you have done; to the top of the receiver opening. On the trailer side, with the trailer...

  • 8 Inch Drop Ball Mount with Longer Shank for Attachment of Towing Bike Rack
  • For a longer 2 inch ball mount that has 8 inches of drop the Brophy part # EA80 would most likely be your best option. This ball mount has 4-1/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the beginning of the bend in the ball mount. Or for a steel ball mount with 4 inches you would want the # AMSC8.

  • Hitch & Ball Mount for 2002 Jeep Wrangler to Clear Spare Tire
  • You can avoid clearance issues between your 2002 Jeep Wrangler's rear-mounted spare tire and your towing ball mount by using a ball mount long enough that will extend past the rear edge of the tire. The 2-inch hitch I suggest for your 2002 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is Curt # 13408. This is a no-drill bolt-on installation. When we installed a Class III hitch on your vehicle we found that the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the spare tire was 6-1/4-inches. Once it is installed...

  • Gooseneck Trailer Compatibility with 1995 Ford F-150
  • The Brophy Ball Mount - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 15-1/4" Long - Aluminum - 8,000 lbs # EA80 is only rated for a tongue weight of 800 lbs which most trailer hitch receivers won't be able to handle but most gooseneck trailers will exceed. Gooseneck trailers typically use the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball like # SC30-C that is also the size used with larger bumper pull trailers, however it is not recommended to tow a gooseneck trailer behind your bumper as they are designed to be towed over the rear axle...
