Video Transcript for B and W Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - BWBMHD30010 Review

Today we'll be reviewing Part Number BWBMHD30010, this is the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount with a 1 inchrise or2 inchdrop, it's8-1/2 incheslong and weightedat16,000 pounds. This ball mountisgoing to letyou hook upyour trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank will slide into your vehicle's hitch receiver and the ball platform provides a good mounting point for the hitch ball that sold separately. This is made from sturdy steel construction, and the shank you can see onthe back side, is not hollow but solid. This is corrosion-resistant, and it's coated in a high-gloss black powder coated finish. Both thedrop and therise positions areavailable to ensure level towing.

A hitch pin and clip is required or a hitch pin and lock, and those are sold separately, and you can refer to the Ball Mounts product page and look on the right hand side of your screen underneath related products to find those products. This Ball Mount is made in the USA and it's designed to work witha 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. It has a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds and a max total weight of 1,600 pounds. The length from the center of our hitch pin hole to thecenter of our ball hole is going to be 8-1/2 inches. This Ball Mount provides a 1 inch rise or 2 inch drop. Whenit's flipped over in a rise position, we get our measurement from the top edge of our receiver tube, which is also pretty equivalent to our shank, to the top of our ball platform, you see if we take that measurement we are going to have about a 1 inch rise.

If we flipped this over to the drop, we are going to see that it provides a 2 inch drop. Again that measurement is going to befrom the insidetop edge of our receiver tube, which is pretty equivalent to the top of our shankto the top of our ball platform. In measuring that you can see if you just imagine a line coming straight off from the shank over to the ruler it willhit at about the 2 inch mark. Our ball hole diameter is going to measure at about an inch and a quarter, and our pin hole diameter is going to measure at a 5/8. Thatmeans whenweuse our hitch pin we want to make sure that we use a standard 5/8 inch pin and clip.

The shank lengthis 6 inches. Now we are going to throw it into a receiver tube and show you how it looks and how to install it. All we need to do is slide the shank of our ball mount into the opening of our hitch, inaudible 00:03:02our pin holes and insert our pin and clip. This is in thedrop position, to do so in the rise position, we just removed our ball mount, flip it over and re-insert it. Thatwill complete today's review of Part Number BWBMHD30010,the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount with a 1 inch rise or 2 inch drop weighted at 16,000 pounds.

Solid shaft, weighty, but expecting a long life from it. I'll have to hunt around for someone who has the right tool for getting [torque specs] on the ball, but shouldn't be a big problem. Package tracking was excellent and on time. 357779

Ask the Experts about this B and W Ball Mounts

  • What Length Ball Mount Do I Need To Use?
Longer ball mounts are helpful for creating clearance from the rear of the vehicle to allow you to lower your tailgate while towing and not interfere with a tongue mounted jack or install hitch mounted accessories (like bike racks) that may require more clearance from the rear of the vehicle. The length that you'll want to use really comes down to whether or not you really need an extra 1-3/4" between your trailer coupler and your truck. For all intents and purposes, the # BWBMHD30010...

  • Are There Any Made in the U.S.A. Heavy Duty Ball Mounts for 2" Receivers Available?
No. While Curt is an American company and manufactures a great deal of their products in the U.S.A., the Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mounts like the # C45340 is not one of those products. If you're looking for a ball mount that is made in the U.S.A., the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount # BWBMHD30010 has a 16,000-lbs capacity and the same 1" rise/2" drop as the Curt model you were looking at.

Yes, the B and W Heavy Duty trailer hitch part # BWHDRH25132 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 6 foot bed that has either a standard or step bumper. For a heavy duty hitch with as much capacity as this hitch has you really aren't going to find a better deal. • Can the End of a Ball Mount Be Trimmed Down to Fit in a Trailer Hitch on a 1999 GMC Yukon
Part of what gives ball mount # 40330 its capacity is the amount of material inside of the receiver. By trimming it down it makes the capacity unknown and could compromise the structural integrity of the ball mount. Also, it is a solid steel shank so trimming it is no small task! The best option is a new ball mount that is a better fit. I recommend B&W ball mount # BWBMHD30010. To determine the capacity of your 2006 Chevy/GMC Silverado or Sierra 1500 you will want to check the owners manual. Trucks can be configured in so many different ways with different motor and transmission options that the easy way to determine capacity is to check the manual. It is rated for 2,400 pounds of tongue weight and 16,000 pounds gross trailer weight (17,000 when used with weight distribution). This likely exceeds the capacity of the truck but check the owners manual for the trucks capacity and, if lower, go by the lower rating. Since you will be doing some towing I recommend etrailer...
