Today we'll be reviewing part #BD44150WQ317. This is the Bulldog Heavy-Duty Cast Head Coupler with the wedge latch. It is designed to fit 2-5/16 inch hitch balls and it's designed to go into an A-frame trailer with a standard 50-degree trailer tongue. The heavy-duty coupler is ideal for utility, livestock, cargo and construction trailers. It has the wedge style latch that is secure and easy to use. Right here we do have a little hole.
That way we can install a coupler pin or a coupler lock and those are sold separately. When we lift it up, there's a little divot here at the top that exposes those holes. That way we can reinstall that coupler pin or coupler lock and secure the latch up in this position. So to release, we simply just lift up on the, there's a little trigger latch under here and then we can lift up on the latch. I'll flip it over so you can see the mechanism on the inside.
You'll see how that adjusts up and down so in the down position, it's going to secure the ball in place. We release it and move the latch to the up position, it's going to allow it to disengage from the hitch ball. You can see here at the back we do have the cutout for a square utility jack. It also has 3 threaded holes that's going to fit a standard bolt pattern for square trailer jacks. That square is going to measure about 2-1/4 by 2-1/4.
The overall length of our coupler is going to give us a measurement right around 18 inches and this is going to be a weld-on application so once you have this onto the trailer frame, you can just weld around the connection points. The coupler is going to give us a gross weight capacity of 15,000 pounds. So we'll go ahead and open up the trigger latch. We'll take our 2-5/16 inch ball that is sold separately, fit it in there and then we can release the latch back into a secure position. You can see that when we try to pull on the ball, it does not disengage but it does allow it to maneuver around.
That way when you need to maneuver the trailer it will easily do so without coming disengaged. Open up the latch and it easily lets go of the hitch ball allowing us to disengage from the connection. That's going to do it for today's review of part #BD44150WQ317. This is the Bulldog Heavy-Duty Cast Head Coupler for 2-5/16 inch hitch balls. .

Durable cast coupler features the easy-to-use Wedge Latch for simple, quick hookup and has a built-in attachment point for square, A-frame utility jacks.I believe in Bulldog products. This is my first experience with this particular design. I have noticed that the latch mechanism can be fussy about how it works. Not just a matter of throwing a lever and its locked. It does require more focus than other Bulldog couplers I have used.
It arrived faster than expected. I used this to replace another coupler on an aluminum trailer. I used this as a bolt on rather than a weld on since the trailer frame is aluminum and steel can not be welded to aluminum. I had to drill 4 holes to match the existing holes from the old coupler.
Finally able to complete a trailer project Etrailer.com filled the order and shipped promptly.
Bulldog is the correct name! It grabs hold and does not want to let go.
Works good but all the paint fell off within 3 months and completely rusted now
Love it, lots of surface to weld to fra me
Just as advertised. Very impressed with the customer service.
Great shipping and product is very good. Thanks for the fast turn around.
Outstanding support - THANK YOU for all of the assistance!
GREAT COUPLER
I purchased a new trailer that has a v nose. Didn't realize that the 50 degree frame rails are much shorter with the V. I have an existing weight distribution hitch that would not fit due to the short length of the frame rails. This coupler added an extra 4" of length for me to use my hitch. I purchased the weld on model because it had no holes. I transferred the existing holes on the frame rails to the new coupler and mounted up beautifully. I have not pulled with it yet but am completely happy with my purchase. Quick shipping, quality product and a good price. What more do you want?
Doesn't fit well, even though your website said this was the correct hitch for this make and model trailer.
Installed, works fine. The handle sticks a little, hard to open for a 120# woman age 60 but otherwise no issues. Installer painted it without discussing with me and the paint peeled off in one week.
Very good product but was delivered to the wrong adresse i was lucky that the person that received it was honest enough to phone me and i had to go pick it up 10 miles from my home ??????
I have been installing these on our work trailers the last couple years. They work great. I'm using this one to convert my 5th wheel car trailer to a bumper pull trailer
Identical replacement for a bent couple r.
Easy installation, wish it included the grade 8 bolts but otherwise great product fast delivery an extremely satisfied. Installed in minutes.
Helpful people at etrailer. They told me the info they needed to set me up with the correct coupler. I did my homework, got back with them and Angie had my trailer coupler delivered to me the next day. I will definitely call them first always for trailer needs.
Got lazy one day and tried to move my trailer with the tractor and the corner of the implement I had on there and bent the coupler. Being a welded on part I wanted to place it with a quality part. Could of bought local but etrailer is a no hassle outfit. Thx guys

You mentioned that the paint fell off the coupler. I know that it rusted fairly quickly however it can happen since the coupler will become scratched from use and road debris. I recommend using a Brillo type pad to remove the rust and then touch it up with a rust resistant paint like Rustoelum.
