Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Roadmaster Exact Center steering stabilizer. This is going to help you maintain control of your Jeep and help it to return to center when something like a crosswind or uneven pavement or even a tire blowout causes it to swerve or jolt. This is a tempered steel pneumatic spring that's going to work to return your vehicle to its normal state. So when it compresses, the spring is going to push back to its neutral position, and when it extends, it's going to pull back. So it's going to help keep you centered so you don't have to work as hard to steer.
So it's gonna help to reduce road fatigue. And this will also allow for limited backing up of your RV when you're flat-towing your Jeep. So with most options, you wouldn't be able to back up your RV with your Jeep connected, because it's gonna turn and be hard to control. But since this is going to keep it centered, you'll be able to back up a little bit while you have your Jeep connected. This will attach to the steering mechanism on one end and to the chassis undercarriage on the other.
You will have a nice tight connection between those components to help keep your steering firm and controlled. It only takes about an hour to get this installed. There's no drilling or welding. In most situations, you are going to need custom mounting brackets. There are a few that you won't, but vast majority are gonna require mounting brackets to get this installed.
Those are sold separately, but you can find kits available here at etrailer.com that have this and those brackets. But if you're just needing to replace the steering stabilizer, this will do a good job for that. Or if you have one of those applications where you don't need the brackets, this will be a great option for you as well. This is made here in the USA, so you can trust it is gonna be made of good quality materials, have good craftsmanship and oversight, just like all the other materials or products made here in the U.S. Does come with a limited lifetime warranty as well, so if you we're to have any issues with it you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com.
But overall, I think this can be a great option get mounted onto your Jeep so it's gonna be much more comfortable, take a lot of strain off of you trying to keep your Jeep centered. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Get responsive steering for your Jeep with this gas spring stabilizer. No more wandering or rut tracking. Also lets you back up your rig without disconnecting your tow bar when towing behind your RV. Custom brackets sold separately. This works well and was very easy to in stall
I have been using the exact center steering stabilizer for several months now. The steering stabilizer improved my steering 10 to 15% leaning towards 10 more than 15. It was relatively easy to install but difficult to adjust due to the fact that adjustments require driving on the highway and adjusting by trial and error. The price is slightly elevated for the worthiness of the product in my opinion. I am not against this product at all. It’s definitely better than Ford’s stock stabilizer, but it’s not a magical fix and should be priced lower.
This is absolutely a must for anyone with a Class A gas motorhome and fighting the steering. Steering feels tighter and self-centers quickly. Makes driving my 35' RV much easier and a LOT less fighting with steering when passing big rigs or in wind.
Hey RV'rs.... I upgraded from the Roadmaster stabilizer and the difference was phenomenal... Prince Edward county to Key West with minimal steering correcting
Had this installed by my local truck repair shop shortly after purchase (install was no problem) and have taken my Ford chassis equipped Itasca Class C on several long trips since then. Another review stated that it improved the overall steering experience by about 20%.... I would say my experience was a bit better then that, with a 30 to 40 percent improvement. It definitely helps and I feel much more confident in the handling of my motorhome. Much more relaxed after a day of driving to be sure. A bit pricey and I would have wished for a 80 to 100 percent improvement but overall I have been pleased with my purchase.
I installed the center stablizer today only drove about 20 miles it is great not to have to fight the steering wheel. Go lucky and didn't have to do any adjustments. I would highly recommended the center stablizer. Could not believe how much different the unit handles
Makes my steering harder to turn on curves and makes you overcompensate when a truck passes. Wish I could return it, however the return policy states only uninstalled items may be returned. Not sure how you would know if the product worked unless you installed it. Wish I had ordered it on Amazon, then I could return this expensive "stabilizer". Not sure how it got so many good reviews.
Works as advertised. Steering is much better and more responsive
My friend told me "I wouldn't try testing it!" (Backing up my motorhome with my jeep attached to the back by a tow bar. As told, something you never want to do because it's so very easy to jack knife and cause thousands in damage to tow bar etc.) I told him "I already did it and it worked!" It provides a little peace of mind in case you ever have to back up some.
This is one of the greatest additions to a Motorhome. I had purchased a new motorhome the day before a trip so I hadn't had time to install the stabilizer. After a 1000 mile trip fighting the wheel I had a chance to install it before the return trip. It was easy to install with the tool I had brought while at the campground and made the trip back much easier.
We put this on a 2002 Holiday Rambler pusher with about 70,000 miles. I looked at this system a few years ago but I wasn’t sure it would make much of a difference. Wow was I wrong ! We were leaving for an out west trip and so I thought it would be a good test. First off the coach never handled (bad) it just wasn’t great. I would say that this cleaned up about 80% of the steering wheel (sawing). I literally had to retrain myself not to constantly over steer the coach and let the system recenter me. I found myself giggling as I would start the day’s drive because it made that much difference. My only regret is that I waited 12 years before trying this steering stabilizer. It was simple to install (did it myself) and I didn’t even need to adjust it. I went for a test drive previous to installing and made note of where the steering wheel needed to be when going straight, then set the wheel in that position when I installed the stabilizer. Still amazed something so small could make such a difference.
This it the second Roadmaster stabilizer I have purchased from Etrailer. Other was for our older 2011 motorhome and after having it I did not want to drive without 1. This is different than prior unit- big factor is so much lighter and easy to adjust, so far working perfectly…
For what this cost,I notice no difference in the steering handling from the prior factory set-up. My RV mechanic tells me it's because I have a shorter motor coach at 32 foot. It just gets blown around and handles like a a short wheel base vehicle.
I haven't installed it yet. Buy I will rate it when it's done and road tested. I will be ordering the the spring helpers after I get the stabilizer installed
Kim and the staff at E-trailer are very helpful. Fast and efficient delivery. Looking forward to installing the Steering Stabilizer. With the new sway bars already installed, we should see a big difference in handling of our Fleetwood Bounder. Thanks very much!
Our mechanic told us what we got was not a steering stabilizer but more like a cushion. My husband said it did tighten up the steering somewhat.
Driving our 30 ft. Class C motor homes, is like driving a sports car, haven’t had steering problems with road ruts, no more white nuckle driving, sure help driving between big
rigs. I glad I waited on them during the Covid shortages instead of buying some other product. You need to put ty raps on the end of the boots that’s keeping it in place. Great investment.
I really like the way the vehicle handles after finally getting it centered. I had issues with the rubber boot constantly sliding off one side or the other. This would cause major vehicle pulling one way or the other especially after one heavy rain storm. I placed hose clamps on the boot and clamped it to the steering stabilizer, that fixed the issue.
Tips for installation;
1) Drive and find straight/center with masking tape as described; DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP or rely on if the wheels just look straight.
2) Wire brush (with drill attachment) U-bolts to remove rust.
3) Spray with PB Rust breaker type product and let soak on U-bolts
4) Remove U-bolts with torque wrench to help determine torque setting
5) Follow remainder of etrailer video instructions as they are clear and correct EXCEPT; the black end pieces in which the shock screws into should be set to a thread depth you are comfortable with prior to install to leave room to perform fine adjustments. I reset bracket to make sure the threads had plenty of bite.
The hardest part is the fine tuning. I have only put approx. 10miles on it at this point searching for center as I did not do step #1 at first and had to reset the bracket on the drag-link to ensure proper thread depth.
As far as performance; Not sure how I feel about it yet. Does hold straight but requires more effort during turns and constant effort to maintain the turn. My rig takes a lot of mico adjustments on the steering wheel going down the road to keep straight and I am concerned this will cause more fatigue rather than less. Getting ready for road trip and will report more after.
As far as Etrailer; Excellent communication, quick shipping, good instructional video.
Super easy install on a 2019 Leprechaun 319MB ,Class C RV. Hardest part was taking off the old hardware. Followed the instructions and test drove at 60mph and it drove totally straight and did not have to make any micro adjustments. A very well made product.
Too early to tell. Will install on my motorhome in a few weeks.
The brackets look well made and I really like powder coating. The stabilizer itself looks great and seems almost too stiff ... can't move by hand. Seems like it should have better retainers for the rubber boot.
Will be happy to give a better review once it is installed and I drive it a bit.
Made steering somewhat better. Still has more play than I like
Great product, fast shipping. Follow up as soon as I use stabilizer.
easy to install on my 2011 e450 super duty jayco grayhawk. test drive proved good control. will know more when towing our jeep grand cherokee.
This is a great addition to our motorhome. Fairly easy to install!
