Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bars - RM-RBK5-RSSA

  • Steering Stabilizer
  • Roadmaster
  • Includes Mounting Hardware

The sturdy steel spring on this stabilizer keeps your vehicle in line by constantly working to maintain its position. Mount it between the steering mechanism and the chassis for a tight connection that will minimize wander and correct oversteering.

Features:

  • Compensates for oversteering and returns your vehicle to center
    • Tempered steel spring works to return to its normal state - when compressed, spring pushes back into neutral position; when extended, it pulls back
  • Attaches to the steering mechanism on one end and to the chassis undercarriage on the other
    • Tight connection between these components keeps steering firm and controlled
  • Helps you to maintain control of your vehicle in the event of crosswinds, rut tracking, road edging or a tire blowout
  • Reduces road fatigue - stabilizer keeps you centered so that you don't have to work as hard to steer
  • Installs in approximately 1 hour with no drilling or welding
  • Includes stabilizer, custom mounting brackets, hardware and installation instructions
  • Made in USA
  • Limited lifetime warranty

A variety of things can make your vehicle veer - crosswinds, uneven pavement, tire blowout. The key to a pleasant, and safe, driving experience is learning how to deal with these situations. Roadmaster's Reflex Steering Stabilizer works to return your vehicle to center when something happens that causes it to swerve or jolt. As a result, you won't have to oversteer in an attempt to stay in line, thus minimizing road fatigue.

The stabilizer attaches to your vehicle's tie rod on one end and to the frame on the other. A heavy-duty steel spring runs the length of the rod, constantly working to keep steering controlled. If you steer your vehicle one way and it gets pulled the opposite way, the spring will stretch momentarily and then quickly pull back to its normal state. If you oversteer your vehicle in the same direction it is already moving, the spring will compress for a moment but then push back out to its prior state. No matter how you steer or how the frame is pushed or pulled, your vehicle will always return to center.

Video Transcript for RM Reflex Steering Stabilizer w Mount Brackets for Class C M: The Breakdown

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a looks at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes. You'll want to verify in our fit guide which part number fits your inaudible 00:00:10.Now we're taking a drive without our steering stabilizer installed so we can compare the differences. Right now you can see there, when I hit bumps, you can see the wheel jerk. Once we get our stabilizer installed, that will help minimize those jerks in the steering wheel. What this means for you, is you're going to have more control over your vehicle, as well as it's going to reduce fatigue when driving down the road, because you're not going to have to fight to hold it straight like you we're before. As we head into our test course here, you're going to notice as we go over the various terrains, car's steering wheel's going to react. We're going to start with something that will simulate uneven pavement.

You can really see here how it jerks the wheel. Now you have to fight it to keep it straight. Next, we're going to be going over something that's going to simulate potholes or speed bumps. You can see how it still jerks the wheel, but not as bad as our uneven pavement did. Another think you'll notice is that when you're turning, on some of them back country roads, your steering wheel will return to center, but we'll see how much more our stabilizer's going to make a difference in bringing our vehicle straight for us.

As of right now, it continues to turn left and is not straightening out.Once we get our steering stabilizer installed, we'll show you the difference. You can already tell when we go over our bumps, our steering wheel doesn't move nearly as much as it used to. It's much easier to maintain control. We come around our turns, you see we let go of the wheel and it immediately bring our steering wheel back to center. Unlike before, where our wheel kept at an angle and our RV just went right around in a circle all by itself.

Here we can let go and watch it return. Now, as you can see when we're turning, you'll see our spring expand and contract. It pulls our steering back to center. You can see here as we go over bumps, the dampener bringing our steering back to center right away. What this really means for you, is it's going to help reduce driver fatigue by keeping the steering wheel straight, returning to center, doing a lot of the work for you. It's going to give you an overall more stable ride by keeping that wheel straight.

You're going to feel safer and more confident going down the road. This is what our steering stabilizer's going to look like when it's installed. It's going to mount between your tie rod and your front axle. It's going to help keep your vehicle in a straight line going down the road. This will help reduce driver fatigue, because you won't have to fight that back and forth motion while going down the road. It will also help stabilize your vehicle, making for a safer trip. This works using the large spring installed on the shock. As it expands and contracts, it's going to want to return to its normal position. Since we have it installed with our wheels in a straight line, it's going to try to bring those wheels back to a straight line. The shock inside of it is going to help absorb those impacts in the road, so if you hit any potholes or uneven terrain, that's actually going to help dampen it, making so you don't have so much of a jarring motion up on the steering wheel inside the vehicle. The spring is made of a tempered steel, so it's going to be durable and last a long time. It has a rust resistant coating on it as well to help extend the life. This will help improve the safety of your motor home, especially on those long trips, because of high crosswinds that you may encounter in certain areas, uneven rough terrain, and in the even of a blowout it will help you maintain control so you can safely pull over. It comes with all the hardware you need to get it installed. There's no drilling required and it's a really easy quick install. Our customer William J. Had to say, "Our Winny Brave experienced violent front end oscillation at three different times; after driving over diagonal rail road tracks on two occasions and once again after a pothole I had the front end aligned and it needed it. The shop recommended the steering damper to remedy the oscillation problem. I drove the unit 36 miles without the addition of the damper and handling was improved, but it still drifted and changed directions with road surface changes. I have put another 36 miles on the unit since the damper addition and I can feel the change. The steering feels rock steady with no side to side drift or direction change, even some over some of our local rough roads. We are planning a trip that will take us back over the diagonal railroad tracks and I can't wait to see if the violent oscillation is gone for good. Initial indications are that the problem is cure."William J.'s right. I could tell a major difference just driving around on our test course here and the few moments we had with it. Compared to other suspension enhancements out there, such as sway bars and air bags, none of those are really going to achieve the same level of stability that this is on your steering when going over bumps. Those are going to be great to help prevent sway and other things, but not for that direction of center that this is going to bring back. That complete our look at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes.

Excellent setup, road manners are so much better. I don't have to work to keep the truck straight anymore. Installed in less than an hour with just a few basic tools.

by:
2004 Chevrolet Kodiak

This stabilizer made my truck much safer to drive. When pulling a trailer, the truck was difficult to handle. Any line or imperfection in the pavement would lead the truck around and cause it to sway. It now handles much better.

Had an issue where the top eye rattled loose and the spring parted company. I contacted Roadmaster and they had a brand new complete unit shipped to me no charge the next day.

I didn't think support like that existed anymore.

Stabilizer showed up quick. Easy to install for someone who has some knowledge about the vehicle. You better have 3/4 in drive tools for the U-bolt nuts one truck. Requires a large amount of torque to remove and reinstall them. Only have one test drive on it, but much improvement already. Would recommend this to stop the road wander.

First, I did have to grind off corner of the plate that mounts under leaf spring bolts. It would not lay flush so I tapered one of the edges where it met the axel a little bit till it laid flush. I did buy a 3/4 inch wrench set but with an rv, it's good to have and will possible allow me to get the 22.5 inch wheels off in an emergency. This with a good solid 3' pipe and I was able to fairly easily break the leaf spring bolts free. I used boards to ensure the fronts tires were fairly straight, laying them alongside the tires and eyeballing to see where they lined up with the back tires which are about 4 inches wider than the front outside width. I mounted the steering stabilizer and took it for a test drive and it was good the first time, no additional adjustments needed. Feels good on the road, good around turns, and even at low speeds around the driveway, I did not notice any extra effort to turn the wheel due to the heavy spring on the stabalizer. Put about 75 miles on it and it feels solid and stable though no high winds or passing semi trucks yet. But my 2007 ford f53 22000 lb chassis under a holiday rambler admiral body has always felt pretty good. Just trying to make better, next up is the new koni evo fsd heavy duty shocks coming today.

No issues. Significantly helps steering.

I did the drive to find center on steering wheel which made installation easier. Removing existing steering stabilizer and brackets and installing the new wasn’t difficult at all with just basic tools. Read instructions and watch video at etrailer site. The reflex steering stabilizer is worth the money but should be the last modification done in my opinion. The first thing to install to help the swaying, leaning or just being pushed around by the semi trucks is #1 Roadmaster rear anti-sway bar if the manufacturer left the original small one on. #2 Roadmaster front anti-sway bar. Then #3 Roadmaster Reflex steering stabilizer. I say Roadmaster because the bushings and linkage for all of these are very heavy duty compared to the others that I compared. After doing all three of these upgrades to my 2022 E-450 33 foot class C the driving has gone from seriously gripping the steering wheel to driving relaxed with one hand in high wind or the passing of big rigs and ruff dipping road surfaces. I did this upgrades one at a time in the order I’ve indicated so I actually got to feel how each item help to control my motorhome. I am very pleased with all. Thanks etrailer for the excellent service.

Quality built steering stabilzer. Well packaged and arrived within my expected time frame.

2007 Fleetwood Bounder 35E F53 chassis. What a world of difference driving. No more white knuckle, butt cheeks crunched, wife holding on for dear life driving. It's does what it says. The install was a breeze. I recommend this to any one with a Class A.

by:

Wow what a difference, installed the road master front anti sway bar and steering stabilizer, what a difference no more white knuckle driving, very easy to install.

by:

Installed on an Entegra Odyssey Class C RV that sits on a Ford E-450. Installed after Roadmaster Front and Rear Sway Bars with the hope of receiving more positive steering feel as opposed to the sloppy factory steering. Install was very easy using hand tools and accomplished in about an hour. I noted an improvement in the steering with a more solid feel to steering inputs. Helped with driving Interstates with less wander and a more solid free to steering. Rather than dramatic, I would rate these improvements as more subtle but a definite improvement.

Nick S was GREAT help. He helped me with the right stabilizer for my motor home and had it shipped the very same day. Stabilizer was installed with very little effort and it is making quite a difference in my ability to steer the motor home. I will definitely recommend etrailer to my friends.

by:

I just installed the reflex stabilizer bar this morning and it made a big difference in the way my motorhome drove.

by:

To start off, the folks at etrailer were the most professional and helpful. I cannot remember a company I have dealt with in the past that offers such help in determining the correct product and answering my many questions.

The installation of the RBK22 bracket was flawless. I was very concerned because of the size of my Newmar Country Star 3911 motor home (26,000 GVRW). The U bolt nuts came off without a lot of strain, since I went out an purchased a 3/4" breaker bar. We installed the mounting bracket and re torqued the U bolt nuts to the factory 250 ft. lbs of torque.

Installing the RSSA went smooth as well. Check out the pictures below. We then took the motor home out on the freeway and drove it between 65 - 70 mph. Steering was wonderful! Before, I could only drive 55 mph and had to constantly fight with the steering wheel to keep the motor home straight.

Thank you etrailer and Roadmaster for such a great product!

Part was easy to install. The video shows the worker using a rachet to install all the nuts and bolts on the same model c class motorhome. I could not get my 3/8 rachet on any of the nuts and bolts. I ended up using a wrench. No problems after the install. Camper goes straight down the road. I will be checking out how it handles on the road with trucks and the wind soon.

by:

Installing the steering stabilizer really made a difference. You have to be careful to have your front wheels as straight as possible. I had to make an adjustment after install as it made my motorhome pull to the right. The Ford dealer quickly made the adjustment and it really tracks straight down the highway now. It tightened up my steering as well - I'm very pleased with this product.

by:

Works great on my 1989 E350 Holiday Rambler Imperial class-C motorhome. Holes had to be drilled in the frame or else the angle would be too extreme and would likely bend the tie rod. I would probably like a little more tension on the steering wheel than it currently has but perhaps that can be adjusted? Just drove a few hundred miles through LA traffic in CA and it definitely helped reduce some stress.

by:

What a difference this made. I was on the fence about this for quite a while because of the investment needed. Now that’s it’s on my 2018 Coachman Freelander 28QB sitting on a Ford E450 my only advice is don’t wait any longer, put this on as soon as possible! It took all of that steering wheel shake out. No need to hang on with a death grip anymore. The stabilizer is very easy to put on, it took me about 1 ½ hours to complete including taking the old one off. Just follow the great video and printed instructions from etrailer and you will have no problems at all.

by:

We have driven about 3,400 miles since the Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer install. I can honestly say it has made a significant difference in the handling of our Class C RV. Before installing the Stabilizer the RV steering felt like it wanted to drift one way or the other depending on road conditions. This is no longer the case. Much less work to steer.

by:

Easy install. Better control & less wander going down road. Does increase effort when turning tight radius corners.
Make sure it is centered & tight on steering rod.

by:

Works well, install was a little tough as the video showed mounting bracket instructions different then the bracket I installed . I had to remove the spring u bolt nuts. That was not an easy task. Had to use a breaker bar and my legs to remove them. Install was easy and took about 20 minutes. Steering feels good.Happy with etrailer and the product.

by:

I installed this on my 2003 Chevy Express 3500 Roadtrek Class B motorhome to help with steering wander. It improved the issue by about 75%. A noticeable improvement. The instructions were a little difficult to follow, but with some tech support help, I was able to remedy the issue by reversing the position of the small end bracket (see pic) that attaches to the steering center link. This is basically a shock absorber (dampener with spring) mounted horizontally on the steering Linkage. It worked well.

by:

Installed the roadmaster stabilizer on my 2017 F450 Fleetwood Jamboree and just got back from the test drive. Got the positioning just right on the first try. This with my sumo springs have completely transformed my ride.
Excellent.

by:

Steering feels slightlymore solid than without it but thought it would bring the steering back to center which it does not. Also did expect it to have more impact when being passed by large trucks. Not sure if I would recommend it.
