Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at Roadmaster's Line of Rear Anti-Sway Bars for motorhomes. You want to refer to our fit guide to find the appropriate sway bar for your vehicle. The large size and heavy weight associated with motorhomes can cause drastic amounts of sway when driving down the road. To help create a safer ride, and reduce driver fatigue, we can minimize the sway by adding an additional rear sway bar. So when making basic maneuvers or sharp turns, you'll minimize the risk of a rollover. Also, when driving on windy days, on uneven pavement, you can get a sway affect going back and forth, and you'll have to compensate for that with the steering wheel to maintain and safe, straight path. This additional bar will help reduce that amount of sway, making it easier to maintain control of your vehicle and reduce vehicle fatigue, 'cause you're not having to compensate as much. The Polyurethane Bushings will help dampen road vibrations, and additionally stand up to corrosive road oils, salts, and UV rays. The bar is made up of 4140 chrome steel, where most factory bars are only made of a lower strength, 1020 steel. And to maximize your reduction of sway, Roadmaster recommends you also get a front anti-sway bar. Using our fit guide at etrailer.com you can pick out the appropriate rear and front end anti-sway bars for your motorhome. Now we'll take our anti-sway bars out on our test course.

When we go into our alternating bumps, you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of sway. It's a lot more stable side to side then it was before, making it much easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And then we'll head onto our straight bumps. When we hit those, there's a definite difference in how much forward and back movement than we had before. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than what we had. And again, it's easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And now we'll head onto our slalom where we can really test our the sway capabilities.

So if we have some evasive maneuvers, how our motorhome would react. And it's a massive difference. When turning, there's hardly any sway. I feel much more confidence taking sharp, evasive turns. Our customer David S purchased both front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars, and had this to say."I installed front and rear sway bars on my 2006 Itasca Suncruiser after making a winter trip to Florida from Ohio. We made a return trip this past winter, through the smoky mountains etcetera.

The improvement in handling was so noticeable, my wife noticed it from the passenger seat. I highly recommend both of these products. I have a workhorse w24 chassis. Crosswinds and semi-push was very minimal. One handed driving in most situations in the norm now, and driver fatigue was minimal.

Driving the coach is much more enjoyable."And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of rear anti-sway bars for motorhomes.

The item I ordered came quickly and was exactly what I wanted.

I was looking for something that would help keep my motorhome from being so susceptible to semi truck blow by and imperfections in the road , something that would help me drive my motorhome not let my motorhome drive me. The first one was on my 36’ beast i didn’t think much at first but really began to notice the difference on those long stretch drives , I’m not saying it made the driving completely perfect but it really helped , I found that my grip on the wheel didn’t have to be anything like it use to be , there was far less tracking from the texture of the road and way less wandering , it also helped with wind and the dreaded semi truck blow by , pushing you out , then sucking you in as they pass . As far as stabilizers go I would have to say this one is tops in its class. If you use your motorhome you will not be disappointed with this product , this is my second one purchased and the very first thing I put on my new motorhome . etrailer has a home run with this product . No worries on ease of installation , road master has great customer support also as I found out when I had a question about installation on my new motorhome . Thanks etrailer for finding and selling products that really work .

Grate for Towing! But vary stiff if not loaded. Corners like a race Van

by:

I have a 2017 Ford F350 Super Duty SRW, and we haul a heavy truck camper (Lance 1055.) I have Stable Load Uppers and HD airbags, but wanted to add a sway bar to add that extra layer of control, even though my truck has handled the camper well over the last 2 years and 10,000 miles. My truck did not come with an OEM sway bar installed, so I needed this kit that included the End Links too.

The Roadmaster Rear Sway Bar and End Links sold on etrailer are top quality products. They are robust and well made, with quality hardware to match. The product deserves a 5-star, and even unloaded, my truck handling improved right after installation, with improved cornering and no real impact on ride quality in my opinion. I have not yet loaded up our camper or towed our boat, but I have no doubt this sway bar will substantially reduce sway and will improve control and handling when the camper is loaded.

So why 4 stars and not 5?

1. I researched this product and the installation in detail. I planned on installing it myself and expected to find plenty of detail on etrailer's site, or Roadmaster's site, or the internet. My most pressing question was about where to mount the end links, and the orientation of the sway bar arms since I wouldn't be using the OEM end links. That information was no where to be found on the etrailer site, Roadmaster's site, or in any installation manuals. For a product and supplier that has likely sold lots of these to Ford Super Duty owners, I was surprised to find how little info was out there. The installation video on the etrailer site was helpful, but did not include any information for the end links, as they had a 2015 Super Duty and used the OEM end links already installed. I contacted etrailer and they told me to contact Roadmaster for more info on where to locate the end links with this kit.

2. I contacted Roadmaster. They told me they had no instructions and that despite my truck already having the cut-outs for the OEM bracket that attaches the OEM end links to the frame, that none of those holes may work for me. So they suggested I connect the sway bar brackets to the axle first and then see where the arms would line up with the end links. The tech also suggested that it wasn't critical that the end links were perpendicular
to the frame, but that I should try install the end links to allow the arm of the sway bar to hand as close to parallel as possible. No bueno. When I installed this the 14" end links (center hole to center hole) didn't allow for the arms to hang parallel to the frame. And I don't think it matters as the orientation of my sway bar and the arms looks about like every video or picture I could find on the internet of this year/model truck and this sway bar kit. It seems to function fine.

3. Installing it was a bear, especially the way they instructed me to. And I had to make some modifications to fit my truck, as the sway bar arms were rubbing up against my airbag mounting brackets. I got it installed, but the thin instructions turned what should have been a 60 minute job into 2 1/2 hours. A bit frustrating.

All in all, this will do the job intended and will provide me with peace of mind next time we load our camper. I am a bit frustrated that there were zero installation instructions specific to my year/make/model of truck given it did not have an OEM sway bar and the end links had to be installed with a bit of guesswork. You will also note in my pictures that I had to mount the end links to the sway bar arms differently on each side to make the bar fit around my air bag mounts.

by:

Fairly easy install. Drilling the hole in the frame was decent started with a 17/64 pilot hole then the 17/32 final hole. Take your time and let the drill do the work.
Do be aware of the hole placement on the drivers side as there are brake lines and wiring there.

This product arrived on time, and is as described in company literature. I have installed the sway bars and the sumo springs on my 2019 Ford E3 26 foot Thor motorhome. Installation is fairly straightforward. Having said that, I am a retired farmer and I am quite familiar with this type of work. Having the proper tools makes the job go much quicker and easier. Installation of the front sway bar took a little under an hour. The rear sway bar is a bit more complicated to install, but he can be easily accomplished by someone of average mechanical skills, equipped with the proper tools. I strongly recommend removing the rear wheels to facilitate installation of the springs and the sway bar. I have not driven my motorhome yet, but will be taking an extended trip in March. I am looking forward to an improved ride.

All the contents were delivered in the package. The kit fit perfectly as designed. Ordered for a Ford F-350 Super Duty. Truck handles great!

by:

Was told from etrailer that this was going to be a quick plug and play but no this was to be installed on a class c ( no drilling) but no , ustraps had to be adjusted did not fit and struts would not reach had to drill chasis

by:

Solid-built sway bar. Helps stabilize in wind while driving. Using on 2016 Thor Vegas 25.3 RV, notorious for suspension and driving issues. Using front anti-sway bar as well with Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer.

by:

OH My! If you are thinking about getting one for your P32 wide body. Please don’t hesitate. It REALLY Works. Take the white knuckle effect out of driving. EASY installation! Easy Ordering from etrailer. Roger helped me get through the buying process and shipped to my house in 2 days! Thank You!!

by:

First, Eric was a great help throughout the purchasing and installation. I watched the tutorial numerous times and set up my tools. I bought a 3/4 inch torque wrench at Harbor Freight and a 4 ft galvanized pipe at Home Depot. I followed the instructions and the tutorial to the letter. The bar and mounting plates are heavy, so be very careful. This job isn't for a beginner, but if you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you can install it. The 300 Ft. Lbs torque of the 8 nuts took everything out of me. LOL...I adjusted the end links twice, and it leveled out great. Now, I will do a test run and see how it improves the handling of my motorhome. Its a 2022 Entegra Vision 29S.

by:

Very heavy duty sway bar. Using it on a 2016 Thor Vegas 25.3 RV. Much thicker than original and still holding up fine. Helps to stabilize in high winds and passing trucks. Also added the Safe-T-Plus stabilizer to keep wheels from wandering.

by:

I am happy to finally have the rear anti-sway bar installed. Noticed the difference right away. I will order the front anti-sway bar soon. I have the skills to install the anti-sway bar, but did not have the heavy tools to do the job. Paided a local shop 2hrs labour, well worth it.

by:

I watched your video on the installation of the rear sway bar which I found to be helpful. I used an adjustable strap to level the sway bar before aligning and drilling for the links. Looking forward to a road test soon. Thank You

by:

This sway bar is the real deal. Easy to follow instructions but I had it installed because I'm lazy. It took one hour labor

by:

Your installation video was helpful. The front bolts on the the hangers required heating to break them loose. The factory was generous with blue lock tite. I might add the front bolts require a 18mm socket. Looking forward for a road test. Thank You always

by:

Haven't opened the stabilizer bars but I did open the Sumo Springs and the Snap Pads. All seemed to be there in good condition.

by:

The sway bar is good quality and probably does help with the cornering and the wind buffing from the semi trucks on the freeway.
The negative side is the bolts supplied adapter kit were under sized diameter to the point of ratting when you walked back and forth in the camper. To correct the problem I had to drill the poorly punched holes in the shackle to a true 1/2" then purchase new bolts and lock nuts that fit the bushings. After all the labor and expenses the sway bar has worked as intended with no noise. The other thing I had not considered was how much traction you loose on uneven ground but that is the trade off with better highway control.

by:

This should have been original equipment. It ( 1995 Safari Trek) now drives like a completely different vehicle! I added Sumo Springs on the rear .These 2 items together are well the money. I installed both alone by myself (67 years young).

by:

I didn’t realize our motorhome had an OEM sway bar already installed which was left in place. Etrailer selected one for us that was heavier and more appropriate for our unit. Instructions were a bit to be desired but once installed made a world of difference. Their staff is very knowledgeable and didn’t try to sell me more than I needed. Thank you Etrailer.

by:

The antisway bar I purchased was relatively easy to install, and the service department was quick to respond to inquiries. It made a dramatic improvement in driving the motorhome, handling in wind, curves and semi truck winds was quite improved.

by:

This sway bar works great even with an 11-foot truck camper loaded on it.

by:

Replaced the anti-sway bar on our 2019 F350. No special tools or jacks needed for the installation. Now our Lance 850 truck camper doesn’t sway nearly as much as before. Big improvement. Very pleased!

by:

Installed sway using hand tools. Relatively easy install on a Class C Entegra Odyssey that sits on a Ford E-450 chassis. Unloading the rear is not required for install; however, raising the rear gives you more working room. Once installed, I noticed a marked improvement in reduced body lean going around corners. Front Sway Bar is next.

by:

Received the product in a timely manner. The shipping company used I’d give a no star rating. I received the anti-sway bar bare out of a box or wrapper with the installation part box and a cut out piece of cardboard with the shipping label on it taped to the bare bar with about five yards of packing tape. The bar was scuffed, scratched and chipped with the RoadMaster label destroyed. I realize it’s going to be installed under the front of my motorhome but as much as it costed I would like to be the one to scratch and scuff it. If I was a company installing this on a customers vehicle I’d return it. I do not believe it was shipped from etrailer in this condition.

  • Comparing RoadActive Suspension Kit and Sway Bar For 2006 Chevrolet Express Van
For your 2006 Chevrolet Express 12-Passenger Van I recommend the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS2611-V which gives you 2000lbs of load leveling support when you have the van full of cargo and passengers, but also eliminates axle wrap and does a great job of minimizing body roll and sway when you get a side wind. The Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar and Axle Mounting Kit # RM-1109-150-00 would only help with sway while not changing the ride quality of the van,...

  • Anti-Sway Bars For 2008 Fleetwood Jamboree Sport Motorhome
With the extensive sway you are experiencing driving your 2008 Fleetwood Jamboree Sport, the best thing you can do is add an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar because it acts as a brace between the frame of your motorhome, and is constructed with higher-strength, thicker steel than OEM sway bars. This means it has much higher roll stiffness to combat sway - the higher the roll stiffness the better sway control - and its placement at the rear of the vehicle allows for the greatest improvement...
