Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at Roadmaster's Line of Rear Anti-Sway Bars for motorhomes. You want to refer to our fit guide to find the appropriate sway bar for your vehicle. The large size and heavy weight associated with motorhomes can cause drastic amounts of sway when driving down the road. To help create a safer ride, and reduce driver fatigue, we can minimize the sway by adding an additional rear sway bar. So when making basic maneuvers or sharp turns, you'll minimize the risk of a rollover. Also, when driving on windy days, on uneven pavement, you can get a sway affect going back and forth, and you'll have to compensate for that with the steering wheel to maintain and safe, straight path. This additional bar will help reduce that amount of sway, making it easier to maintain control of your vehicle and reduce vehicle fatigue, 'cause you're not having to compensate as much. The Polyurethane Bushings will help dampen road vibrations, and additionally stand up to corrosive road oils, salts, and UV rays. The bar is made up of 4140 chrome steel, where most factory bars are only made of a lower strength, 1020 steel. And to maximize your reduction of sway, Roadmaster recommends you also get a front anti-sway bar. Using our fit guide at etrailer.com you can pick out the appropriate rear and front end anti-sway bars for your motorhome. Now we'll take our anti-sway bars out on our test course.

When we go into our alternating bumps, you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of sway. It's a lot more stable side to side then it was before, making it much easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And then we'll head onto our straight bumps. When we hit those, there's a definite difference in how much forward and back movement than we had before. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than what we had. And again, it's easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And now we'll head onto our slalom where we can really test our the sway capabilities.

So if we have some evasive maneuvers, how our motorhome would react. And it's a massive difference. When turning, there's hardly any sway. I feel much more confidence taking sharp, evasive turns. Our customer David S purchased both front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars, and had this to say."I installed front and rear sway bars on my 2006 Itasca Suncruiser after making a winter trip to Florida from Ohio. We made a return trip this past winter, through the smoky mountains etcetera.

The improvement in handling was so noticeable, my wife noticed it from the passenger seat. I highly recommend both of these products. I have a workhorse w24 chassis. Crosswinds and semi-push was very minimal. One handed driving in most situations in the norm now, and driver fatigue was minimal.

Driving the coach is much more enjoyable."And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of rear anti-sway bars for motorhomes.

This thing changed the handling of my RV significantly. It was like going from a horse and buggy to a sports car! It truly made a huge difference in the wind, rough roads, crossing parking lot aprons and cornering. It's worth the money to make the upgrade and Etrailer did an excellent job on the install! 638776

Installed on MB Sprinter 3500 RV. Corrected sway and yaw when being passed by big rigs. Install directions were confusing. Called Roadmaster, they sent better instructions and talked with installer and solved the issue. 643712

I just received the sway bar today and was delivered very expeditiously. I do want to thank the etrailer staff for providing great service. I want to especially thank Conner L for working with me patiently to expertly advise me what I need to correct a sway issue I'm have with my RV coach. Conner is very well versed in RV technical knowledge and was a great help in suggesting options. My entire experience was very fluid through out the whole process. The assembly arrived quicker than anticipated and the shipping web site kept me informed as to where the shipment was each day. I'm looking forward to the benefits of my sway bar assemble as soon as it is installed. I am also looking forward to my next etrailer purchase. Thank you again. 545192

The package arrived in a timely manner, just as promised. The installation went as described in the instructions and everything fit well. It improved the handling quite a bit. I already had installed “Sumo Springs” last year (worked great) and the sway bar controlles the sway even more. One thing I can add is, get a long 1/2” drill bit (8” long) to help with drilling the front bracket holes. The drill chuck on my drill, hit the link tabs, causing me to drill at a slight angle (horizontal holes). The biggest problem I encountered is that the bar contacts the exhaust pipe (1/4” gap) and makes noise when driving (see photos) . I have a diesel and the exhaust pipe is about 3” in diameter, which doesn’t help. I’m trying to figure out how to resolve this issue. I will update when I do. 508714

Comments

When the anti-sway bar is installed, it is in a set position, but because the exhaust uses rubber isolators that suspend it from the exhaust hangers, the actual position of the exhaust pipe can vary a bit. The good news is that the positioning of the exhaust can be modified a little bit by gently bending the exhaust hangers. If that doesnt work, you can go to a muffler shop and have the exhaust hangers relocated fairly inexpensively.

It should be a factory option. It controls the sway like I hoped it would. No issues one year later.

Winnebago Navion

The Road master sway bar made a remarkable difference in the handling of my 25.5' Winnebago Navion. High winds and passing trucks made handling difficult, and forced me to slow down before this mod. Now I can drive 70 to 80 mph in most conditions and in comfort. Just an amazing difference. I also like that installation does not require removal of the oem sway bar, so I now have double stability. 434462

I just installed the roadmasteranti sway bar 1209-131 on my 2013 Winnebago via.The vehicle is a 2012. it fit well and road test good. I had to shorten the exhaust about 9 inches because it interfered with drivers side arm other than that its good to go. 108043

I am thinking about adding the 1209-131 to my 2011 Winnebago Via 25Q. Which model Via do you have? Im hoping I wont have to modify the exhaust on my Via Q. Thanks.

I put the sway bar on a 2012 25t I did shorten the exhaust about 9 inches I think 2 or 3 inches would have been good. That was easy to do, as new as they are just take exhaust loose at first coupling pass the elbow slide it out and take some off the piece that goes to the inside. Worked well for me. Going from our drive onto the blacktop road in front of our place was all it tuck to decide it was worth the effort. It fit very well. Thanks Mack. PS I am 75 and 240 Made a man door step for drivers door .It works well Love it. Mack

2018 Ram 3500

RM-1209-131 delivered a day earlier than promised. Installed on 2018 Winnebago 24V View on 2016 Mercedes 3500 sprinter chassis. Good fit had to modify the exhaust which exits on shotgun side ahead of wheels which was to close to the long links. Drove 20 miles to my indoor storage. Quite a reduction to side to side sway. Handles like a different vehicle (better). Can’t WAITE till our next trip. Tulsa auto spring did the installation. Mikes custom muffler shop did the exhaust modification. Do believe l made the right decision not to tackle the job on my own $250 to install. $120 for exhaust modification. In Tulsa, Ok wouldn’t, go anywhere else to get the job done. 715992

It took a little effort on the phone to figure out which sway bar was needed for the motorhome I have. I was skeptical about the right one being sent but it was correct and installation was a couple of hours. It fit perfectly and really dampened the body roll we were having. Worked great, service and delivery was fantastic. This was the first time I have used etrailer.com and am very happy with their product and willingness to help. I'll be using them again and I highly recommend them. 356110

I put this on my 2015 Winnebago view. I left the stock swaybar and added this one to the front of the rear axle. It was the single biggest improvement that I did to the suspension. I can't believe Winnebago sells the RV without this upgrade. It improves handling in the wind or turning corners tremendously. 258934

The product is great. The change in handling of my Ford F53 based motorhome is like day and night. The sway ( those of you who have an F 53 know what I’m talking about ) is so much more tolerable and no more white knuckles. The installation was straightforward but wasn’t as easy as it looked in the instructions. The torques were killer and took three of us to get done. The product does what Roadmaster clams it will do and I’m happy with the anti sway bar. 664236

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

This is the first of three pieces I wanted to install on my Rig. (budget permitting) The advice to start with this rear sway bar first was spot on. Since this augments the existing sway bar and doesn't replace it, It really does makes a difference. I chose to have it installed by my local RV Shop, since they had all the equipment and tools to do it right. I paid them $225.00 for the install. The tech reviewed the installation video and was pleased I had all the torque data. I might tackle the front anti-sway bar and the Reflex Steering Stabilizer by myself, but this was more than I cared to tackle on my own. Those existing U-bolts are a beast to deal with for this do it yourselfer and I was glad to let him handle it. 669629

The Road Master rear sway bar is Great but only because of etrailer with their installation video. The written instructions that come from Road Master are less than vague and incomplete. The only thing of value in the instructions is the torque specifications. Without etrailer‘s video the average mechanically inclined person would not know how to properly install the system 453321

Still works well, does have clunk when you hit a bump. Talked with roadmaster and we could not identify cause. Make sure brackets are tight to frame, they will move.

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Because I have an older rig- (97 Fleetwood Jamboree, 31 ft, class C) I wasn't able to find many reviews of the Roadmaster's improvements of this particular generation coach. Install was fairly straightforward, and on my initial short test drive I was very impressed. The rear of the whole rig was tight with way less body rolling, and handling on the highway has improved as well. After my short test drive, it was apparent that I will need to install the front anti- sway bar at some point as well. The rear is tight now, but the front still floats. I considered some other spring upgrades, but I'm happy I choose to start with the Roadmaster anti-sway bar. If the cost was lower, I would order and install the front now. 677752

After purchasing a 2017 Winnebago Sunova 36 Z, I realized there were several handling issues that needed to be dealt with to make the drive more comfortable. I researched and then asked the experts at etrailer to narrow down part numbers appropriate to my F53 chassis. With their guidance, I purchased "sumo- springs" front and rear, a "Roadmaster" steering stabilizer, and finally the "Roadmaster" rear sway bar. The addition of these parts has made the coach far more comfortable to drive. Not only does e trailer provide great assistance ordering coach-specific parts, but they provide awesome installation videos that are a great help. Thanks etrailer!! 522622

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased this kit and the Roadmaster rear anti-sway bar kit for installation on my 2015 Fleetwood Flair, 26-foot. Before purchasing, I called Roadmaster to make sure this kit could be installed on my small RV, as they make smaller kits for smaller RVs. They indicated it could be installed, and I'm glad I went with the heavier kit. The install took maybe an hour, with the only glitch being some difficulty getting the poly bushings and brackets over the new bar. I called Roadmaster, and the tech noted that the brackets DID look to small, but with some jiggling and finesse, the bolts should fit, and they did. My only irritation with this, and the rear anti-sway bar kit, is that the Roadmaster instructions do not provide ANY torque specifications for bolts to be replaced, either Ford F53, or kit specific, so be prepared to make some calls or go on an Internet search to find the right torque specs. 224319

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I recently purchased and installed a rear sway bar for my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 diesel truck.. I searched through several models of bars but wanted one that was similar to the factory bar I had on my 2000 Dodge 2500 4x4. This Roadmaster bar is of excellent quality and bolts to the bottom brackets of the rear differential so the installation is very solid on the axle. The vertical links mount to 2 very sturdy brackets that attach to the frame rails. All the hardware is marked on the heads as graded hardware. The bars, links, urethane bushings and all hardware are excellent quality. This installation made an immediate improvement in my trucks roll stiffness. The factory does not make a rear roll bar for these year trucks for some reason. My previous Dodge had the camper package and came with a nice rear sway bar. This etrailer Roadmaster setup is a good option for anyone looking for something like a factory bar. The folks at etrailer were very knowledgable about their product and very helpful making sure I got the unit I needed. I will definitely recommend them and their products as well as use them in the future for my truck needs. 483372

Product arrived quickly as usual with etrailer. The etrailer video was more handy than the accompanying instructions from Roadmaster. etrailer provided videos for both the early E450 and the later chassis installations. While essentially the same, there was a small difference of enlarging an existing hole on the early frame in my case a 2006 and having to measure to locate the hole on the later. It would be nice if Roadmaster included a parts diagram to help with assembly instead of small not clear pictures. I thought the parts package was short two half inch washers, I supplied them from my stock. The fittings on the Roadmaster bar are much heavier than the stock components. Installation is on a 2007 Coach House, motorhome. Took it for a test drive, big difference in handling. 460014

Would have no problem ordering from this company again. They were also very helpful and patient on the phone. 670674

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck! 302774

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

After installing this front and rear sway bar my RV, it handled much better when in windy conditions and being passed by large trucks. The front sway bar install was very easy. The rear sway bar was much tougher and ultimately I had to have Camping World install that one. It took them about an hour and half to install just the rear sway bar. This was installed on a 2014 Chevy express 4500 frame. 336983

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

2017 E-450 Class C RV. I just received the road master front anti-sway bar: RM-1139-176, rear anti-sway bar:RM-1139-147and steering stabilizer: RM-RBK24-RSSC . I unboxed everything and Wow! what a difference compared to the other items. My son and I decided to go ahead and install the steering stabilizer- RM-RBK24-RSSC and it took us right at an hour. we would stop and watch the e-trailer video to make sure we were doing a proper assembly. It is a very helpful tutorial. The only concern I have is how close the tie-rod end of the steering stabilizer is to the radiator hose. It looks like it could come in contact. What we are going to try is to get a old radiator hose and cut a section out of it and wrap around the area where the contact could occur. I will post an update when we get the sway bars installed 346938

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I received my front anti sway bar (RM-1139-140) around noon on the day it was promised. The package was undamaged and all parts were contained within. After lunch I installed the bar in less than 30 minutes, which included the removal of the factory bar. I installed it by myself from the ground. Simple install although I did deviate some from the instructions to make it easier for me as the bar is heavy. Instructions say to attach the bar to the axle with the bushings and saddle clamps first, then bolt the endlinks. Instead I bolted the endlinks first then simply swung/rotated the bar to the axle and attached with the saddle clamps. I did not have to lift the heavy bar to the axle as the weight was already supported by the endlinks. Easier if doing the install alone in my opinion. About a week prior I had installed a Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer ( RSSA-RBK9). These 2 items greatly improved the steering and sway problems which were extremely bad in my 2013 Winnebago Vista 26HE. So bad that I considered the drive extremely stressful and dangerous. With these 2 parts added the drive is now 80 to 90 per cent improved. Very happy. 263320

I thank Cathy T great help she gave me. I installed the front and back anti sway bars on my 2016 George Town Motorhome. It has the ford f-53 chassis and a Dana 150 rear end. I use road master RM-1139-145 on the rear and RM-1139-140 on the front. Thanks to Cathy T she set me up with the right parts. I don't have any more body roll and the 18 wheelers bearly push me over now. If not at all. The front bar also cut down on wheel pounding. I have a much smother ride. I also have the road master reflex steering stabilizer Rm-BK9-RSSA. 293767

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased a Roadmaster antisway bar to replace the stock bar on my 2012 Pleasureway Excel Motorhome which is on a Ford E350 chassis. I did the install myself and instructions were very clear and was not too difficult to do. Handling is much improved, I have noticed less body roll when turning or going over bumps. I have included photos to show the difference between the stock bar diameter and the beefier Roadmaster bar. etrailer shipped promptly and customer service was great. 543343

The roadmaster antisway bar is still working great! As a side note, I also had installed professionally the Roadmaster Active Suspension. Between these two products, my motorhome now drives like it’s on rails. Anyone with the same Pleasure Way model should seriously consider both of these products.

Winnebago vista 08. I believe this improvement was the least productive in improving my ford F53 chassis. My existing bar was already or close to the new bar diameter. The install was quick. Delivery was quick. Pricing was ok but they exceeded in having all three items for my rig. 406453

Put the Roadmaster Front Anti-Sway Bar (RM-1139-176) and Rear Anti-Sway Bar (RM-1139-147) on my 2018 Class C motorhome and noticed 1000% improvement in the driving and handling. Drove it from Texas to California and back. It handled like a sports car compared to before. My Son and I did the work ourselves. The instructions that came with the parts were helpful and easy to follow. I suggest watching the installation videos before starting the install. 599483

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Good anti-sway bar. Installation was made difficult by being unable to easily remove the OEM anti-sway bar. Although this item was intended to go on a near-new 2015 motorhome, the original retaining bolts were very difficult to remove. However, installation of the RM 1139-140 was relatively easy and completed in about an hour by one person. If two people did the task, it could be done in half that time. The only disappointment, and it was significant, is that there was no mention of torque values for the mounting bolts. 223089

Comments

After a year of use over about 8,000 miles, I have to say the improvement they made are moderate at best even considering I put them on the front and back.
