Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its front axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Bottom line - Yes its worth it. Installed on 2018 THOR/Axis 25.5 Night and Day driving. Local shop in Maryland installed for me. (I had already packed my tools/jacks for moving south). Their mechanic was impressed with the size over the OEM. On a related note, got the rear set up as well. Sumo Springs intalled as well.

Comments
Still great and ditto from my front revew - this should be a required OEM item. Now to update the shocks.

The stock sway bars on the Ford E450 cutaway are trash. After replacing both the front and rear sway bars the RV handles like a dream.

2012 Ford Van

I purchased a Roadmaster antisway bar to replace the stock bar on my 2012 Pleasureway Excel Motorhome which is on a Ford E350 chassis. I did the install myself and instructions were very clear and was not too difficult to do. Handling is much improved, I have noticed less body roll when turning or going over bumps. I have included photos to show the difference between the stock bar diameter and the beefier Roadmaster bar. etrailer shipped promptly and customer service was great.

Comments
The roadmaster antisway bar is still working great! As a side note, I also had installed professionally the Roadmaster Active Suspension. Between these two products, my motorhome now drives like it’s on rails. Anyone with the same Pleasure Way model should seriously consider both of these products.

etrailer Rep (Paula S.) was very helpful making sure I got the right Anti- Sway Bar for my R.V. and informed me on future parts I plan to get. Very nice.. Part arrived in a week as promised and is visually the best replacement for my stock Anti-Sway Bar. Good to have a reasonable priced reliable source for my R.V. needs.

2015 Ford E-Series Cutaway

I purchased and installed both the front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars for our class C motorhome. It didn't solve all of our issues but it was a huge step in the right direction. Coupled with a larger steering stabilizer, Bilstein shock absorbers & rear helper air springs, the ride has improved by leaps and bounds. We feel much safer driving down the road in the high winds. Roadmaster makes a great product and install was a breeze. I would recommend their products to anyone.

Received my 2019 E450 front Roadmaster sway bar yesterday and installed it today. Easy install, Instructions sheets was easy to understand. Did a test drive for 10 miles, Boy what a difference. Feels great , nice and tight , now have front and rear sway bars from Etrailer as well as steering stabilizer . makes my Class C handle much easier going down the road. These sway bars are much thicker than the ford standard bars. Etrailer has great videos to show all installs. Thanks Etrailer for all the info.

2019 Forest River Sunseeker Motorhome

I added this and the SumoSprings. Have not driven on the highway yet (that will be in a couple weeks) so I will update this review later. Around our neighborhood in the county the road is really bad and it seemed so much better with less swaying. Oh this is pretty heavy and you WILL need an impact wrench to remove the bushing bolts

by:
2017 Ford E-Series Cutaway

The install was very easy. Followed the steps in the video and except for needing an 18mm wrench not a 17mm. The difference in handling is very noticeable as the wife comment on it as we took a test right after installing it, the wind was 20 to gusts of 30 mph. In a direct crosswind a lot less steering input required and when meeting vehicles no noticeable push anymore. We only went 25 miles so will do a longer test another day. The fit was exceptional and fairly easy to install.

2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway

Overall very happy with purchase of front Anti-Sway bar. Installation required the use of torched heat and a 6 point socket to remove the two front bolts on the original Anti-Sway bar on my 2016 Ford E-450 (Thor Outlaw Class C). After using heat on the frame around the bolts for about 30 seconds, the bolts were easily removed. The new Anti-Sway bar was quite a bit larger than the original and fairly easy to install following supplied instructions. This completes the installation of the front and back Anti-Sway bars and the Loadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer. Final test drive tomorrow.

After a year I did add Sumo Springs and Koni shocks to the front. This completed my front suspension. I will eventually add the Sumo Springs to the rear. Overall very happy with the products I added to my suspension, starting with the Front and rear Anti-Sway bar.

The Front Anti-Sway Bar for my Thor Four Winds (31') on a Ford E-450 chassis came with replacement bushings, grease, loctite and installation instructions. The sway bar was easily installed. The on the road difference between the Ford sway bar and the Roadmaster was apparent immediately during the test drive. It greatly improved the overall handling of the vehicle.

About a year ago I upgraded the front and rear anti-sway bars on my 2017 26A class C Winnebago on a F450 cutaway chassis. This is the simply the best upgrade to date. It eliminated the body roll and awkward handling in a crosswind as well as the snake like movements experienced when passed by semi trucks. The addition of the Roadmaster anti-sway bars has allowed us to travel 70 to 75 mile per hour on the interstates with confidence and has reduced the fatigue of a long days drive.

2015 Ford F-450 Super Duty

I bought this sway bar for my 2015 Itasca Cambria 30J to replace the small factory F450 sway bar. It helped tremendously with my Class C stability and sway. I also upgraded the rear bar. These are more expensive then other brands but I like Roadmaster products and etrailer will price match. Very happy with purchases from etrailer.

The interaction with Noah was great. Was actually sent the wrong on initially but Noah got it corrected and got the correct one the next day. Returns were easy and quick. Found the front sway bar cheaper elsewhere and was given that price and a 10% discount as well. Very satisfied.

2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck!

Dodge Journey

Two reviews - 1 for the product. 1 for etrailer. Product: Prior to purchasing this front sway bar, the corresponding rear sway bar, and the reflex steering stabilizer, driving our Thor FE30 was frequently a white knuckle experience. Our journey has frequently taken us on I-40 and I-10. Both roads are subject to high cross winds. Additionally, there is heavy semi-truck traffic on these Interstates. Our RV was difficult to control in both of these situations. Frequently we were pushed outside of our lane. The installation was super easy on all of the components thanks to the etrailer videos. I was concerned about my drill being able to fit into the tight space to drill the holes necessary for the rear sway bar. I bought stubby drill bits and that worked perfectly. I did not even need to lift the RV off the ground for any of the components. So far I have taken the RV on I35 twice. It was quite windy both times. It was like driving a completely different RV. No wandering out of the lane. The steering felt much more in control. etrailer: This is the second purchase that I have made from etrailer. Both experiences have been fantastic. Both times I contacted etrailer to make sure that I was getting the correct parts and all of the necessary components. Christina J helped me with the suspension and did a great job. The product reviews and installation videos are fantastic. I will continue to be an etrailer customer/fan.

2018 GMC Canyon

Bought a new Class C motorhome on the Ford E450 chassis in Sept 2018. Took it on a 5,000 mile round trip to the Grand Canyon and Utah Natl. Parks. Steering was soft and I had to keep both hands on wheel constantly correcting as vehicle wandered within lane. In turns (ie, exit ramps), vehicle felt like it was plowing and leaning in the front end, not wanting to turn. Ordered the Roadmaster RBK-24-RSSC Reflex Steering Stabilizer and the 1139-176 Anti Sway Bar. Installed it by myself in a couple of hours. Had one question and called etrailer technician who quickly and politely walked me thru an update that wasn't in my instructions. Just got back from a 1200 mile trip to Florida and it drives and rides like my other vehicles. Steering was extremely positive and truck could be driven with one hand easily. Absolutely no swaying and no more plowing in the turns. It made the ride enjoyable and upgrade was more than I expected. Excellent products which I highly recommend.

Fairly easy to install on 24 foot class c. It reduced the left to right away but didn't totally eliminate it. I think it was worth the money and installed it myself. I also replaced the steering stabilizer and the rear anti sway bar. You could see the factory anti sway bars were much lighter duty. Drilling the 2 holes for the rear bar required some thought and we used a small drill bit first them larger and larger until we got to the size we needed we used on the drill bits to reduce wear. I would recommend this to a friend.

Easy install with good directions. Fit was good but I still stripped the threads on one of the re-used bolts. RV drivability greatly improved.

2017 Ford E-Series Cutaway

2017 E-450 Class C RV. I just received the road master front anti-sway bar: RM-1139-176, rear anti-sway bar:RM-1139-147and steering stabilizer: RM-RBK24-RSSC . I unboxed everything and Wow! what a difference compared to the other items. My son and I decided to go ahead and install the steering stabilizer- RM-RBK24-RSSC and it took us right at an hour. we would stop and watch the e-trailer video to make sure we were doing a proper assembly. It is a very helpful tutorial. The only concern I have is how close the tie-rod end of the steering stabilizer is to the radiator hose. It looks like it could come in contact. What we are going to try is to get a old radiator hose and cut a section out of it and wrap around the area where the contact could occur. I will post an update when we get the sway bars installed

  • Use of Roadmaster Front Sway Bar 1139-176 SAF-T-Plus Steering Stabilizer
I checked with my tech contact over at Roadmaster and while they're not familiar with the SAF-T-Plus steering stabilizer you mentioned, he did say that when installing the Roadmaster # RM-1139-176 it's ok to have a slight angle down/up on the sway bar. As long as this is less than 1" or so, you won't have any issues. If you need to use some sort of spacer on the saddle brackets to mount the bar level, you can also do this.

  • Torque Ratings for Front Anti-Sway Bar on 2019 Ford E-Series Van Cutaway Chassis
When Roadmaster refers to a 10 and a 14 mm bolt, they're referring to the diameter of the threaded portion of the bolt, not the size of the bolt head or the size wrench needed to install or remove the bolt. If you measure the diameter of the bolts you found, I'm confident you'll find that the diameters match what's referred to in the instructions, which means you'll want to observe the torque figures mentioned in the instructions. I've linked to a video showing a typical installation.
