Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your van's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your van as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at Roadmaster's Line of Rear Anti-Sway Bars for motorhomes. You want to refer to our fit guide to find the appropriate sway bar for your vehicle. The large size and heavy weight associated with motorhomes can cause drastic amounts of sway when driving down the road. To help create a safer ride, and reduce driver fatigue, we can minimize the sway by adding an additional rear sway bar. So when making basic maneuvers or sharp turns, you'll minimize the risk of a rollover. Also, when driving on windy days, on uneven pavement, you can get a sway affect going back and forth, and you'll have to compensate for that with the steering wheel to maintain and safe, straight path. This additional bar will help reduce that amount of sway, making it easier to maintain control of your vehicle and reduce vehicle fatigue, 'cause you're not having to compensate as much. The Polyurethane Bushings will help dampen road vibrations, and additionally stand up to corrosive road oils, salts, and UV rays. The bar is made up of 4140 chrome steel, where most factory bars are only made of a lower strength, 1020 steel. And to maximize your reduction of sway, Roadmaster recommends you also get a front anti-sway bar. Using our fit guide at etrailer.com you can pick out the appropriate rear and front end anti-sway bars for your motorhome. Now we'll take our anti-sway bars out on our test course.

When we go into our alternating bumps, you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of sway. It's a lot more stable side to side then it was before, making it much easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And then we'll head onto our straight bumps. When we hit those, there's a definite difference in how much forward and back movement than we had before. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than what we had. And again, it's easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And now we'll head onto our slalom where we can really test our the sway capabilities.

So if we have some evasive maneuvers, how our motorhome would react. And it's a massive difference. When turning, there's hardly any sway. I feel much more confidence taking sharp, evasive turns. Our customer David S purchased both front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars, and had this to say."I installed front and rear sway bars on my 2006 Itasca Suncruiser after making a winter trip to Florida from Ohio. We made a return trip this past winter, through the smoky mountains etcetera.

The improvement in handling was so noticeable, my wife noticed it from the passenger seat. I highly recommend both of these products. I have a workhorse w24 chassis. Crosswinds and semi-push was very minimal. One handed driving in most situations in the norm now, and driver fatigue was minimal.

Driving the coach is much more enjoyable."And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of rear anti-sway bars for motorhomes.

Great customer service from purchase to delivery. Kept informed all the way by George with fast shipping. Sway bar was quick and easy to install on my 2018 Windsport, about 1 1/2 hours by myself. Considerably heavier than original, helps reduce sway as advertised. Great experience with company would purchase other items in future. 483047

I received my order, but all the parts wasn't with it. All I got was the bar and the two bushing and brackets that mounts the bushing to the frame. All this came in one long box. According to the picture there are suppose to be more parts. I thought this is an expensive part for no more than I got with it. $ 600.00 for a bar really!! 211264

2017 E-450 Class C RV. I just received the road master front anti-sway bar: RM-1139-176, rear anti-sway bar:RM-1139-147and steering stabilizer: RM-RBK24-RSSC . I unboxed everything and Wow! what a difference compared to the other items. My son and I decided to go ahead and install the steering stabilizer- RM-RBK24-RSSC and it took us right at an hour. we would stop and watch the e-trailer video to make sure we were doing a proper assembly. It is a very helpful tutorial. The only concern I have is how close the tie-rod end of the steering stabilizer is to the radiator hose. It looks like it could come in contact. What we are going to try is to get a old radiator hose and cut a section out of it and wrap around the area where the contact could occur. I will post an update when we get the sway bars installed 346938

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased this kit and the Roadmaster rear anti-sway bar kit for installation on my 2015 Fleetwood Flair, 26-foot. Before purchasing, I called Roadmaster to make sure this kit could be installed on my small RV, as they make smaller kits for smaller RVs. They indicated it could be installed, and I'm glad I went with the heavier kit. The install took maybe an hour, with the only glitch being some difficulty getting the poly bushings and brackets over the new bar. I called Roadmaster, and the tech noted that the brackets DID look to small, but with some jiggling and finesse, the bolts should fit, and they did. My only irritation with this, and the rear anti-sway bar kit, is that the Roadmaster instructions do not provide ANY torque specifications for bolts to be replaced, either Ford F53, or kit specific, so be prepared to make some calls or go on an Internet search to find the right torque specs. 224319

I thank Cathy T great help she gave me. I installed the front and back anti sway bars on my 2016 George Town Motorhome. It has the ford f-53 chassis and a Dana 150 rear end. I use road master RM-1139-145 on the rear and RM-1139-140 on the front. Thanks to Cathy T she set me up with the right parts. I don't have any more body roll and the 18 wheelers bearly push me over now. If not at all. The front bar also cut down on wheel pounding. I have a much smother ride. I also have the road master reflex steering stabilizer Rm-BK9-RSSA. 293767

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

While not the transcendent experience some of the other users had, this did make a noticeable difference. My star rating represents a product doing exactly what it was supposed / advertised to do. I was told the rear anti sway-bar would eliminate 65% of the movement. And that is an accurate description of the improvement. It was most noticeable on uneven roads and highway ramps. When the coach would have rolled 3-4 times, it's now 1 time. And, on long sustained curves the degree of roll is less. I paid to have it installed. After looking at it installed, it would have been easy to do on my own. I recommend the anti sway-bar for anyone looking to reduce body roll. 443092

Installed easily in about 30 minutes. I took it for a test drive in a 35mph crosswind and it seemed to handle great but I am anxious to take it on the freeway. My only suggestion is that Etrailer list measurements with the product description because the front sway bar that my motorhome called for didn't fit and I had to return it and get a different one. 359473

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

We received the product earlier than expected, which was a good thing. After watching the videos on how to install the rear sway bar and front steering stabilizer i'm ready to make this easy install (according to the videos). Now I'm not a gearhead or mechanic but I know my way around tools. The first problem I encountered with both products, which the videos just skim over, is taking out the existing nuts and bolts that are rusted together. This task requires an impact tool connected to a 50 gallon air compressor that will supply a constant 90 psi at the tool. The bottom installation line is, if you're not already geared for this type of work, send it out. The product should have 5 stars but because of the missing info in the instructions I give it a 3. 569765

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Two reviews - 1 for the product. 1 for etrailer. Product: Prior to purchasing this front sway bar, the corresponding rear sway bar, and the reflex steering stabilizer, driving our Thor FE30 was frequently a white knuckle experience. Our journey has frequently taken us on I-40 and I-10. Both roads are subject to high cross winds. Additionally, there is heavy semi-truck traffic on these Interstates. Our RV was difficult to control in both of these situations. Frequently we were pushed outside of our lane. The installation was super easy on all of the components thanks to the etrailer videos. I was concerned about my drill being able to fit into the tight space to drill the holes necessary for the rear sway bar. I bought stubby drill bits and that worked perfectly. I did not even need to lift the RV off the ground for any of the components. So far I have taken the RV on I35 twice. It was quite windy both times. It was like driving a completely different RV. No wandering out of the lane. The steering felt much more in control. etrailer: This is the second purchase that I have made from etrailer. Both experiences have been fantastic. Both times I contacted etrailer to make sure that I was getting the correct parts and all of the necessary components. Christina J helped me with the suspension and did a great job. The product reviews and installation videos are fantastic. I will continue to be an etrailer customer/fan. 475335

I purchased a Roadmaster antisway bar to replace the stock bar on my 2012 Pleasureway Excel Motorhome which is on a Ford E350 chassis. I did the install myself and instructions were very clear and was not too difficult to do. Handling is much improved, I have noticed less body roll when turning or going over bumps. I have included photos to show the difference between the stock bar diameter and the beefier Roadmaster bar. etrailer shipped promptly and customer service was great. 543343

Good anti-sway bar. Installation was made difficult by being unable to easily remove the OEM anti-sway bar. Although this item was intended to go on a near-new 2015 motorhome, the original retaining bolts were very difficult to remove. However, installation of the RM 1139-140 was relatively easy and completed in about an hour by one person. If two people did the task, it could be done in half that time. The only disappointment, and it was significant, is that there was no mention of torque values for the mounting bolts. 223089

Comments

After a year of use over about 8,000 miles, I have to say the improvement they made are moderate at best even considering I put them on the front and back.

Both sway bars made an incredible difference in the handling of my Winnebago Vista 27N. I also purchased a steering stabilizer and no longer have to fight my steering wheel to stay on the road. I am literally able to drive with just a couple fingers on the wheel. The rear stabilizer wasn’t the correct one for my Vista, cause I ordered one for 22,000 pounds, and it didn’t quite fit properly until I made a couple modifications. I did have to order the extended u bolts for the rear axel as well, and the hardest thing for me was removing and reinstalling the nuts on the u bolts. Overall I’m thrilled, makes driving much more pleasurable. 571969

Road master RM-1139-176 and road master RM-1139-147 front and rear sway bars for 2017 Ford econoline 450 - on 26xd Jayco Redhawk. Bought this Class C motorhome brand new. When I test drove it I knew I would have to replace the factory bars. They were way undersized. It was actually dangerous to drive and when we hooked up our flat tow it was really bad. When I installed the road master sway bars front and back it was really unbelievable at the difference it made. It actually made driving this class c enjoyable. Very stable. The bad sway is gone. Pulling my tow is now safe to do. These bars are expensive but I felt if it would help my swaying problem it would be worth it. My dealings with etrailer has been very positive and the videos they produce for installation is spot on. I highly recommend these sway bars. Also it took me working alone in my driveway about 3 hours to install the front and back bars. 464338

The product arrived quickly and complete from etrailer. I had these installed on my 2011 Sprinter 2500 144" about a year ago by a regional tire store. Seems like they charged me an hours labor, maybe a bit more. At first they were a bit tentative about installing someone else's product, but once they saw it, they said no problem. I remember them saying it was really straightforward with no unexpected challenges. Huge improvement. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but I noticed it immediately driving out of the mechanic's parking onto the street. The old rocking after crossing uneven ground is gone, but it's not too abrupt, either. I think it makes highway driving better as well but maybe that's my imagination. I've put on almost 20k miles since, and no complaints. Considering the many modifications and upgrades I've done since buying this Sprinter new, this is probably the best bang for my buck so far. Should have done it earlier, but I appreciate it more now, I suppose... 243777

This is a great product and have used it on my motorhome before, road master sway bar replaces little stock sway bar and mounts in stock sway bar area, unlike hellwig sway bar that uses brackets on axle and slides out of original place, spend a little more and only buy roadmaster sway bars you will not regret it! This was installed along with new rear sway bar. This required a little more effort as it was not exactly a mounting match, it was ordered and was supposed to be but wasn't. The bushing brackets didn't line up to the axle mounting holes, they were offset about 1& 5/8 inch on center and caused the bushing to sit right on the curve of the sway bar. I had to make 2 adapted brackets to allow it to fit the axle mounting holes properly. It wasn't a big deal as I have machine shop and engineering back ground. It along with the rear vastly improved the sway and handling of the RV. 502716

Delivery was prompt. Product was as advertised. Installation was straightforward, despite my aging bones and wimpy arms, and the instructions were adequate to the task. On the road, there was a noticeable improvement in side-to-side motion; not dramatic, but noticeable. This is what I expected and desired. Had I been looking for dramatic, I would have opted for the add-on bar, rather than the replacement. This one did not require drilling the frame, and besides, sometimes dramatic improvements in one aspect of the suspension come at the cost of detriment in other areas. This bar improved the overall handling, especially at low speed, without any detriment to that lovely Mercedes ride that I love so well. The exaggerated side-to-side movements that used to empty the counters every time I turned out of a driveway are gone. I recommend this bar without reservation. 328800

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Excellent product, I installed front sway bar and rear sway bar bushings in less than two hours without using air tools. Working by myself, I put end bushings and saddles on first, put sway bar in both sides then lifted bar and put in the two center bushings. Fit perfect, thank you Roadmaster for a quality product. Wow did it make a difference, really reduced side to side sway and much more comfortable driving. This was installed on a 2000 Winnebago Brave P32 Workhorse chassis. 248584

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I received my front anti sway bar (RM-1139-140) around noon on the day it was promised. The package was undamaged and all parts were contained within. After lunch I installed the bar in less than 30 minutes, which included the removal of the factory bar. I installed it by myself from the ground. Simple install although I did deviate some from the instructions to make it easier for me as the bar is heavy. Instructions say to attach the bar to the axle with the bushings and saddle clamps first, then bolt the endlinks. Instead I bolted the endlinks first then simply swung/rotated the bar to the axle and attached with the saddle clamps. I did not have to lift the heavy bar to the axle as the weight was already supported by the endlinks. Easier if doing the install alone in my opinion. About a week prior I had installed a Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer ( RSSA-RBK9). These 2 items greatly improved the steering and sway problems which were extremely bad in my 2013 Winnebago Vista 26HE. So bad that I considered the drive extremely stressful and dangerous. With these 2 parts added the drive is now 80 to 90 per cent improved. Very happy. 263320

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

After purchasing a 2017 Winnebago Sunova 36 Z, I realized there were several handling issues that needed to be dealt with to make the drive more comfortable. I researched and then asked the experts at etrailer to narrow down part numbers appropriate to my F53 chassis. With their guidance, I purchased "sumo- springs" front and rear, a "Roadmaster" steering stabilizer, and finally the "Roadmaster" rear sway bar. The addition of these parts has made the coach far more comfortable to drive. Not only does e trailer provide great assistance ordering coach-specific parts, but they provide awesome installation videos that are a great help. Thanks etrailer!! 522622

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Shipping was excellent! Product quality was excellent! I installed on a Pleasureway Class B Ford E350 chassis, it fit "like a glove". The chassis had 3/8" holes (short slots) in exactly the position required to bolt on the upper linkage end (after drilling out to 1/2"). The bar center positioned itself perfectly after bolt-up to the area in between the differential cover and the fresh water tank. One feature was the the center portion of the bar angles up from the two linkage ends, the fulcrum being at the axle U-bolt attach regions. Installing this angle up allows the antisway bar center "U" to tuck up and not interfere with access to the differential or reduce ground clearance. This was not addressed in the installation notes and was determined by trial and error. There definitely should be a specific note about installing on the E350 chassis for Pleasure-way RV addressing this. One other comment is that the bar is 1.5" and the vertical linkage bars are maybe 5/8" thick, could they buckle/deform when a strong force is transmitted via the axle given the stiffness of the sway bar? 22610

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased and installed both the front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars for our class C motorhome. It didn't solve all of our issues but it was a huge step in the right direction. Coupled with a larger steering stabilizer, Bilstein shock absorbers & rear helper air springs, the ride has improved by leaps and bounds. We feel much safer driving down the road in the high winds. Roadmaster makes a great product and install was a breeze. I would recommend their products to anyone. 371238

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Two reviews - 1 for the product. 1 for etrailer. Product: Prior to purchasing this rear sway bar, the corresponding front sway bar, and the reflex steering stabilizer, driving our Thor FE30 was frequently a white knuckle experience. 475336

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck! 302774

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

As first time (Class A) motorcoach owners admittedly we had a lot to learn. Our 2004 Monica LaPalma was one of the first generation gassers raised up for more basement storage but without changing out/ updating the original leaf spring design on the Workhorse chassis. Result which was exacerbated by not knowing we should keep speeds below low 60s mph plus driving inexperience resulted in my opinion excessive sway on curves/ needed reactions freeway drivers. As an engineer, did my homework on causes, solutions, companies with proven products to stiffen up handling. Roadmaster kept coming up to the top of the list. We live in a rural area and arranged for a garage that works on commercial trucks to install. Their report to me was that the Roadmaster anti-sway bars was very stout/ well made, instructions were easy to follow... including a non-RV shop. We did our (Md to FL) shakedown trip last Winter (w/o towing a car) and LOVED the solid handling! It was like a new RV! Wife also drove about 1/4 of the drive time. Now we did also (based on every RVer we talked to) limit our speed to no more than 65... most of the time 60-63 mph. With that experience, this Winter we are towing our car and on our 'Western Ho' trip of a lifetime visiting as many Nat'l Parks as we can (currently in NM). Hope I have 'given foreword' a little and that our experience with Roadmaster (and speed control) helps those coming up behind us. 328786
