Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at Roadmaster's Line of Rear Anti-Sway Bars for motorhomes. You want to refer to our fit guide to find the appropriate sway bar for your vehicle. The large size and heavy weight associated with motorhomes can cause drastic amounts of sway when driving down the road. To help create a safer ride, and reduce driver fatigue, we can minimize the sway by adding an additional rear sway bar. So when making basic maneuvers or sharp turns, you'll minimize the risk of a rollover. Also, when driving on windy days, on uneven pavement, you can get a sway affect going back and forth, and you'll have to compensate for that with the steering wheel to maintain and safe, straight path. This additional bar will help reduce that amount of sway, making it easier to maintain control of your vehicle and reduce vehicle fatigue, 'cause you're not having to compensate as much. The Polyurethane Bushings will help dampen road vibrations, and additionally stand up to corrosive road oils, salts, and UV rays. The bar is made up of 4140 chrome steel, where most factory bars are only made of a lower strength, 1020 steel. And to maximize your reduction of sway, Roadmaster recommends you also get a front anti-sway bar. Using our fit guide at etrailer.com you can pick out the appropriate rear and front end anti-sway bars for your motorhome. Now we'll take our anti-sway bars out on our test course.

When we go into our alternating bumps, you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of sway. It's a lot more stable side to side then it was before, making it much easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And then we'll head onto our straight bumps. When we hit those, there's a definite difference in how much forward and back movement than we had before. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than what we had. And again, it's easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And now we'll head onto our slalom where we can really test our the sway capabilities.

So if we have some evasive maneuvers, how our motorhome would react. And it's a massive difference. When turning, there's hardly any sway. I feel much more confidence taking sharp, evasive turns. Our customer David S purchased both front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars, and had this to say."I installed front and rear sway bars on my 2006 Itasca Suncruiser after making a winter trip to Florida from Ohio. We made a return trip this past winter, through the smoky mountains etcetera.

The improvement in handling was so noticeable, my wife noticed it from the passenger seat. I highly recommend both of these products. I have a workhorse w24 chassis. Crosswinds and semi-push was very minimal. One handed driving in most situations in the norm now, and driver fatigue was minimal.

Driving the coach is much more enjoyable."And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of rear anti-sway bars for motorhomes.

I have no more sway on our 2005 Fleetwood Southwind Class A after installing this sway bar. However, I must be honest, When I went to install this sway bar, I found that both of the bushings and one of the brackets that attached the factory sway bar to the chassis were completely missing. I replaced the bushings and bracket at the same time that I installed this Roadmaster HD sway bar. I can't honestly tell whish fix or the combination made the difference. 728746

I purchased a 2000 Itasca 35U on the Ford Chassis last fall. On the 250 mile drive home on the Coquihalla Hwy in BC Canada ( highway thru hell ) I was white knuckled and afraid this was not ever going to be enjoyable or safe drive. Did I waste my money? No. With a little research I found what I hoped would save my dream of hitting the road in this motor home. I found etrailer on line and they had everything I wanted and at the best price I could find anywhere. I purchased the Roadmaster Front and Rear Anti-Sway bars for this Ford chassis and replaced all four shocks. The " Roadmaster Products" transformed the drive better than I could expect or ask for. It feels safe and solid on the road! I am so thankfull. etrailer earned my business and trust. If you are looking to feel safer and more in control in your motorhome, buy this package! I deserved to enjoy a safe and stress free ride and so do you. In conclusion, etrailer and their Roadmaster products are a must for this motorhome. 587694

Great service. Shipped UPS 3 days. Arrived yesterday. Some of the packaging could be better, but overall I'm very happy. Haven't installed yet, I'll post some pictures of them later. Hopefully they will improve the ride/driving in my F53 chassis motorhome as much as Roadmaster claims. 566799

Bought this a year ago. Arrived promptly. Installed with no real problems. I had to get a larger torque wrench to get the bolts tightened to specs. 5000 miles later, I have really enjoyed the improved handling. I also installed the front sway bar. I would highly recommend this to anyone. 390801

I installed the 1-3/4" sway bar kit. I have a 38' coach so wanted all the help I could get. Thus far the improvements to the handling have been very very welcomed. It's now a rarity that that I encounter any sway or push from passing trucks and barely noticeable sway from strong crosswinds. Now I don.t have to fight the coach constantly. Driving is much more relaxed. 360941

What a complete difference this made on my Class A motorhome. At highway speed, I am no longer pushed aside by the big rigs. The coach tracks straight a whole lot better, and body roll is improved. Installed it myself, with help from a buddy? Highly recommend this sway bar! This is my second purchase from etrailer. Both flawless, with quick shipping. 322342

Easy to install, but of questionable value. Reduction in sway was perceptible, but in the end it resulted in only modest improvement. 248522

I bought both front and rear anti-sway bars for my 2015 Forest River Georgetown 364. After over 10K miles, I still say the improvement is only modest. It wasnt until adding Sumo Springs that I saw a significant improvement.

I bought this kit with the intention of installing myself, but a quick review of the instructions convinced me to take it in to a shop instead. The installation is not particularly difficult, but was facilitated by some tools that I simply didn't have. In particular, you'll need a BIG torque wrench to retorque the U-bolts, and on a lesser difficulty level, you'll need a very compact drill and stubby bit to install the frame brackets. I could not get a straight path to the correct location with my drill. It took the shop less than an hour, and was probably much simpler for them since they could put the vehicle on a lift. Otherwise, no surprises. The install could be completed by a home mechanic, but would require at least one somewhat specialized tool - a torque wrench rated to around 400 ft-lbs. The Roadmaster instructions suggest reusing the old U-bolts if they are long enough. I called a different source for new U-bolts, and the tech there suggested that, whether the old bolts fit or not, I should probably purchase new bolts. Apparently suspension U-bolts are threaded in such a manner that they are not intended to be reused. News to me. 224317

Good price , got it fast that = happy customer . The sway control was easy to install drilling the frame takes a good sharp drill bit . The only problem I had was when I install the bar I install it upside down witch make it hit . When I called RoadMaster after a bit they told me to flip the bar over . I told them in the instructions they only say to install bar , no this side up or this side down so I put it with the RoadMaster name up . He said there was a running joke if the label was down it probably was rite . NO JOKE TO ME . 204092

I ordered the sway bar on Thursday 8/15/2013 and received it on Thursday 8/22. That was very quick shipping for something as heavy as the kit. Price was the lowest I could find on the net. The list price is $980.00 found some places charge around $100.00 less then list plus shipping. Saved a lot by buying from etrailer.com. What surprised me was that etrailer.com was able to ship it right away, when I talked to Roadmaster they said the kit was out of stock and would be two to three week before it would be shipped, was told the samething by other's I checked with. Good experience shopping at etreailer.com, will be back. 96569

After over a year the sway bar is still the best investmentupgrade I made to the F53 to eliminate the tailwag of a motorhome with a long overhang. Handles great in side winds and on winding roads. The sway bar is well worth the cost and etrailer has the best price with free shipping.

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

RM-1209-131 delivered a day earlier than promised. Installed on 2018 Winnebago 24V View on 2016 Mercedes 3500 sprinter chassis. Good fit had to modify the exhaust which exits on shotgun side ahead of wheels which was to close to the long links. Drove 20 miles to my indoor storage. Quite a reduction to side to side sway. Handles like a different vehicle (better). Can’t WAITE till our next trip. Tulsa auto spring did the installation. Mikes custom muffler shop did the exhaust modification. Do believe l made the right decision not to tackle the job on my own $250 to install. $120 for exhaust modification. In Tulsa, Ok wouldn’t, go anywhere else to get the job done. 715992

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

It took a little effort on the phone to figure out which sway bar was needed for the motorhome I have. I was skeptical about the right one being sent but it was correct and installation was a couple of hours. It fit perfectly and really dampened the body roll we were having. Worked great, service and delivery was fantastic. This was the first time I have used etrailer.com and am very happy with their product and willingness to help. I'll be using them again and I highly recommend them. 356110

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Product arrived quickly as usual with etrailer. The etrailer video was more handy than the accompanying instructions from Roadmaster. etrailer provided videos for both the early E450 and the later chassis installations. While essentially the same, there was a small difference of enlarging an existing hole on the early frame in my case a 2006 and having to measure to locate the hole on the later. It would be nice if Roadmaster included a parts diagram to help with assembly instead of small not clear pictures. I thought the parts package was short two half inch washers, I supplied them from my stock. The fittings on the Roadmaster bar are much heavier than the stock components. Installation is on a 2007 Coach House, motorhome. Took it for a test drive, big difference in handling. 460014

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

The product is great. The change in handling of my Ford F53 based motorhome is like day and night. The sway ( those of you who have an F 53 know what I’m talking about ) is so much more tolerable and no more white knuckles. The installation was straightforward but wasn’t as easy as it looked in the instructions. The torques were killer and took three of us to get done. The product does what Roadmaster clams it will do and I’m happy with the anti sway bar. 664236

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I have a 2000 dodge van 3500. Roadtrek versatile. The installation of Sway bar 1129-111 was somewhat easy. Except for connection to the Fram rails. Vinyl cover on driver side fram rail and propane lines next to rail on both sides. It would make installation Easter to remove rear tires and support vehicle on Jack stands on level ground. After driving for several miles the sway bar performed well. Would recommend rear sway bar to help stabilize your vehicle. Thank you 386045

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

The Road Master rear sway bar is Great but only because of etrailer with their installation video. The written instructions that come from Road Master are less than vague and incomplete. The only thing of value in the instructions is the torque specifications. Without etrailer‘s video the average mechanically inclined person would not know how to properly install the system 453321

  • Roadmaster Rear Sway Bar and Extended U-Bolt Kit Recommendation for a 2014 Ford F-53
You will need to check the U-bolts you have currently to determine if there is enough thread for the 1/2 inch spacer that comes with the # 1139-144. You would need room for the spacer and still have 3 threads showing on the u-bolt. That is the only confirmed way to know if you will need the long U-bolt kit part # RM-590050-00 as well. Also, you should note that u-bolts should only be torqued once so going with this kit now will allow you to have everything you would need and you would...

  • Rear Sway Bar Recommendation for 2017 Winnebago with Ford F-53 Chassis
We have rear sway bars that are a fit for your 2017 Ford F-53 chassis but you cannot use the front bar you have on the rear. If your RV is less than 34 feet long you would want the part # RM-1139-143 or if longer than that part # 1139-144. Typically a rear sway bar makes a larger impact in ride quality improvement than a front one does. We tend to recommend people start with a rear bar since it makes the biggest difference.

Without being able to test the two together, I wouldn't be able to definitively tell you whether the two parts would conflict or not.
