Today we are taking a look at the Napier Sportz Air Mattresses. These are gonna be a great addition for if you already are getting a Napier tent and you want a mattress to match. Now, this is available in two different sizes, so depending on your vehicle or truck or tent size, you might wanna pick between the two different width options. But this is gonna be a versatile mattress, meaning it's just gonna be a rectangular shape that will fit in all types of different spaces. You also have different methods of inflating it, but spoiler alert, it is a bit of a hassle. So if you're curious of seeing that process and you wanna learn more about this mattress, stick around.
I've gone on plenty spontaneous adventures where I've had sleep in a sleeping bag, in a hammock, on some rocky ground, on top of the roof, inside of the vehicle. So I've got a lot of opinions on camping mattresses. Now, this is something that's definitely gonna be better than just a small, thin sleeping pad or a hammock or a sleeping bag, but it's gonna be a little bit different compared to your home air mattresses that you may be used to. You still get the more premium feel of a home air mattress, meaning you have five inches of height, you have some pretty good stability throughout the mattress, and you have a very soft top, which is very smooth to the feel and adds a little bit to that comfort rating. But when you are talking about camping air mattresses, especially ones that you may be using in your car or in your truck, there's some extra things to it that you might not consider with a home air mattress.
The first question is going to be where are you putting this So this is designed mainly for truck use, but you can put it inside your SUVs. I used to car camp inside a smaller SUV, seats folded down almost flat, and this style of a mattress was perfect for that situation. So for measurements, this will be about 75 inches long and then 42 all the way up to 50 inches wide. So you have those two different options there. Now, technically, when I measured from bottom to top, I got around 73, 72 inches long, and that did change between the different air mattresses from Napier that I tried out.
So there might be a slight discrepancy when it comes to the length, but that might also depend on how you have it inflated, how inflated is it, things like that. So just shoot for the 75 inches of length as the almost standard. The next thing to consider when using a car camping or truck camping mattress is, how cold is it gonna be at the location you're going to And you might think the reason ask that is because, oh, well air is larger or compresses depending on the temperature. And that is true. And if that is the case for you, if you find that, let's say the mattress feels a little low throughout the night, well, you could just flip it on over and pump it a couple times with the hand or foot pump on the bottom and that could fix up.
But the second reason I ask is because when I took a car camping mattress out to West Virginia and was super cold in the night, well, having a mattress filled with air that does not heat up was not the best experience for me. So I had to go and take out my sleeping bag, really bundle up inside of there to make sure that I was warm at night. So if that's something you haven't considered before, well, you should start thinking about that now. The good news is that this mattress does have two different materials. So the bottom material is a more sturdy, outdoor style material. This is the reason why this mattress is also rated for outdoor use. You also have some good sturdy seams all throughout, which should help prevent puncturing of the mattress. And it should be fine in most outdoor situations, though I do recommend putting down a mat whenever possible. On the other side, you have this flocked top. So what that means is this is a much more smooth material, much more comforting to the feel. I personally do not recommend sleeping directly on the mattress, just because that would dirty it up a little bit more quickly. Definitely use sheets or bedding with this. And the flocked top also helps prevent that bedding from sliding around, so that way, even if you twist and turn throughout the night, your sheets should stay on your mattress. If you're trying to decide if your house sheets will fit around this mattress, well, a full size fitted sheet is usually designed for mattresses that are 75 inches by 53 inches, so a full size sheet will fit around this, there'll be a little bit of extra wiggle room, but it will be a better fit compared to a twin size sheet. Here's what it looks like inside of a pretty large SUV. So we have it inside a Jeep Grand Wagoneer L right now, and it fits perfectly. Now, another thing to consider is when you have the height of the mattress, that's gonna decrease from the height you will have with the ceiling. So for vehicles that are a bit lower, you may get a little just claustrophobic. It might feel like you don't have as much space, which is why when you use this with Napier's SUV tents, like the Cove or the Dome-To-Go or the SUV Tent, which expands your hatch area, this might be a little bit more comfortable. This also has a weight capacity of 400 pounds. With that, you might think, okay, great, for two people, we'll just stay within the 400-pound limit. And while that does apply, what I've seen happen a lot too is that people then store their stuff on top of the mattress at night, because the mattress will take up valuable vehicle space. So what I did when I was camping is I would have my bags on my seats, and then at night I take my bags out, inflate the mattress, put it into the SUV, and then put the bags on top, because where else would they go So that's also something to consider with that 400-pound weight limit. And when you do need to store it during the day, this is what the mattress looks like deflated and rolled up. So you're gonna want to roll it into a third, and then you do have a bag included that you can fit (mattress rustling) the mattress into. This bag is very helpful, because there was no way I was fitting this back into the box that it came in. It has a little cinch up top, plenty of room in the bag in case you don't fully deflate it. Now, the pump used to inflate the mattress is also helpful for deflating the mattress. So yeah, you can see that this will be easy to store, great during the day, and then at night you just inflate and go. So if you are curious about that inflation process, well, get ready. You may need to start stretching, because this is gonna be a workout. So the first thing you're gonna do to get this all set up is unfold your mattress, (mattress thudding) lay it out where the soft side is on the bottom towards the floor, and then we're gonna go over to this pump. So to get this all prepped, you need to undo that cap, and then we're going to remove this plug. And that's a very important piece. And then on the side, you're gonna see this black port. You just double check that that is tightened down and sealed. To inflate this, we're gonna do what's pretty much compressions on that pump, and it does take a good amount of time. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to start my timer and I'm also going to count. We're not gonna film the whole thing, but you'll be able to catch up right when we're about done. You ready Set. Timer started. We're now going to make sure that that little port is clear, and start counting. 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 254, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 260, 261, 363, 364, 365, 366. You can see that we're almost fully inflated. 367, 368, 369, 370. So a little bit more. 371, 372, 373, 374, 375, 376, 377, 378, 379, 380. The key thing here is, it's getting kind of tricky to press down on that pump. 383, 384, 385, 386, 387, 388, 389, 390. (patting mattress) We'll go all the way up to 400 if we can. 97, 98, 99, 400. (patting mattress) (Evangeline sighs) That was 400 compressions. Took about seven minutes. (sighs) Don't forget to flip the mattress back over to the soft side facing up. This is also when you would put it inside your vehicle, in your truck bed, inside your tent. I have it just out here in the studio since I'm doing a full review of the mattress and it's easier to see out over here. This is also when, if you want to, you could put sheets on the mattress, put your sleeping bag on it. Either way, enjoy your inflated mattress, because it took a lot of effort to set up. The other two valves are also there to inflate it using alternate methods. So there's this valve over here, that's similar to the one you would find on, let's say, pool inflatables. And technically you can use this one to inflate by mouth. I use it with an electric pump, and you saw how long it took me to inflate this mattress by hand. So I can just imagine how difficult that would be to inflate using my breath. On the other side, you have the other valve. So there's two threads to this one. Technically, this is also the deflate valve, so I try not to use it as much as possible. You can put an electric pump up to this and you can put a hair dryer on a cool setting. So depending on your different fittings for your electric pump, you could use this one. I use that smaller valve, and that's just because I had a ARB compressor and it fit better on the other valve. So you can see here that while the mattress is really helpful and usable and is gonna be a good partner with your other Napier tent products, whether you have the Truck Tent, the SUV Tent, or even your Ground Tent, as its own on an air mattress, it does just okay. It's gonna be a pretty standard mattress, five inches tall. It has a really good feel to the top. But my home air mattress is the same thing. Where it is different is definitely gonna be the method of inflation. My home air mattress plugs right into the 110 outlet. That's not what this does. This has its own hand pump as well as methods for inflating it without plugging into your wall outlet. If you have your own air compressor or electric pump, this will be so much easier to use and inflate. But having the option of potentially just applying compressions to keep this inflated is awesome as well. So with that alone, I think this is a great addition to your car camping, overlanding, truck camping adventures. It's not better than some similarly priced home mattresses, but it does have a lot more versatility. This video was focusing on reviewing our air mattress here today. Again, this is available in two different size. You have your compact, you have your full, both are about 75 inches long. The main difference is gonna be width, so double check your vehicle and make sure this fits within the width of your vehicle. If you have a truck and you prefer something that goes over the wheel wells, well, check out the AirBedz Truck Mat. That one has cutouts on the side so you get more coverage, versus this mattress, which is just a rectangle which fits inside your wheel wells. Now, the AirBedz mattresses are another type of mattress. They make some great, more custom-fit SUV and truck bed mattresses. Not quite as universal as our Napier mattress, but they work great for their own applications. If you're curious about those, check out my review videos here at etrailer just explaining how they work and how they fit inside of other different vehicles. If you're looking for a good universal fit for your outside adventures, when you wanna hang out in your SUV or your truck, this right here was a look at the Napier Air Mattress at etrailer.com. My name's Evangeline, and I hope you enjoyed this journey.
