Whenever you're going on trips, you got a lot of stuff, and we really wanna max out our cargo carrier, but sometimes when we do max it out , gets a little tall and we block our tail lights. So the eTrailer tail light kit for your cargo carriers is gonna solve that. It's gonna keep you legal on the road, make sure everybody knows that you're stopping when you're stopping, and just keep you a lot more safe so you can get your destination safely. It's gonna work with multiple different cargo carriers. The one we're using right now is the eTrailer cargo carrier. All you're gonna need is a screwdriver and a forward pole on your vehicle to get these bad boys installed.
It has an incandescent bulb. So we do have some other options on our website that are LEDs. So just know you have options with eTrailer. It is gonna add a little bit of length to our carrier. So, it's about two and a quarter inches added onto the back of our carrier.
Just to see if your carrier's gonna be the best for it. It's about an inch and three eighths wide, which is gonna be this little bracket here from there to the other side. And then the thickness is about three eighths of an inch. So, right now it's a little smaller on the carrier we're using, but we could maybe wrap the pole right here with some electrical tape or whatever to get it nice and tight on there. I really just don't even like this design, meaning I just don't like how it sticks out.
It's not as clean. So definitely go and check out the LED options that we have on our site for your cargo carriers. They just basically just fit right here with a little bracket. But all in all, I just wanna make sure that people can see when I'm stopping and turning when I have a large load on here, and it's gonna get the job done. It took me maybe about five minutes to put on.
So it's really not a long and install it all, but we'll run you through those steps right now. First thing we wanna do is take our light. And it's gonna go on this upright here. I think this one's probably gonna be the better one. You can make it a little bit wider if you want, but it's gonna be at the end of the carrier. So it doesn't really matter, but this upright post is what we're gonna want. And then just want the plug, we want it to be on the outside of the carrier 'cause that's where we're gonna route all of our wires. So here's our little plug, this thick covering it. Already has grease on it. So, based at the outside, and then we're gonna have this little bracket here. We're gonna put in place. And then we're gonna have some little screws right here. So what I did last time is I kind of just hold it into place and I put it in like this, kind of line it up with the hole, and just get started there and then kind of screw this in. Not all the way, just enough to get it caught. So it'll sit there and support itself. Then we can put the remaining two screws in there as well. There's gonna be a series of wires that come with the kit, and you just need a four pole connector to make your lights work. So plug that in to your four pole, and then you can route your wires depending on what you think looks the best. I think running 'em through the middle's gonna be the best, but one side's gonna be a little bit longer. So we will have some excess wire we'll have to take care of. There are some zip ties in the kit as well. So what we wanna do is on the passenger side, we want the green wire to go on the passenger side, and then the yellow wire to go on the driver's side. So now we'll take this and we'll plug it in. It's only gonna be able to go one way. So you can't really hook it up wrong. There's already electric grease in there. Let's go and just make sure that they work. We wanna give power to the four pole then we'll check our blinkers. We got a right blinker and we got left blinker as well. And that's pretty much it, it didn't take a whole lot of time to install, and it's a very simple upgrade for your cargo carrier just to stay legal on the road, so everybody sees you stopping when you're stopping, turning when you're turning. And again, this was the eTrailer light kit for your cargo carriers. And I'm Matt with eTrailer..

This bolt on cargo carrier light kit is designed specifically for an easy installation on the carrier models 52018 and 52017. The simple bolt on design installs quickly and will get you on the road quickly. The old lights broke and this kit was the exact match, so I just had to switch out the old lights with the new. Working excellently.
Fast Shipping, very secured packing, Cargo Carrier Light Kit For 52017 and 52018 arrived in perfect conditions, Thank You.
Purchased the 52014 kit to be installed on a Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier - C18153.
As mentioned by previous buyers, it was an easy install on the carrier.
- Remove the screws from the light.
- Drill two holes into each side of the cargo carrier.
- Secure the screws back on the lights with a little gorilla glue to strengthen the hold.
- Wrap the exposed wires in split loom tubing wire conduit.
- Test the unit, and then secure conduit with cable ties and wrap all exposed joints with electrical tape for good measure.
Based on others' feedback that the wires were too short, I purchased WHCETR1B (thinking the wires were slightly longer). It turned out the wires were the same length as the kit (I kept it as a back up). It also turned out that it wasn't necessary because the kit fit perfectly on the carrier secured to my Honda Pilot.
The lights are bright. We'll see how well it performs over long-term.
When I noticed the cargo blocked the car's lights, I found myself in a pinch get this this ordered, delivered and installed in four days leading up to vacation. eTrailer shipped the product immediately, it came in good condition, installed in 30-45 minutes, and it worked!
This kit works, but not in the configuration delivered. If you purchase this, be prepared to find an alternate method to mount the lights. You will likely need to modify the cargo carrier to make this work.
The lights are sealed units that are normally flush mounted on larger trailers. Mounts have been added with self-tapping screws that easily strip out of the housing and the mounts fall off the lights. The screws in the kit were smaller in diameter than the holes in the mounts, both front and back, making them useless. I tried attaching the lights using zip ties and just the mount on the light portion, but that failed when the mount screws stripped out of the lights. I did not have the issue with the wiring being too short like other reviewers. My wiring was actually a little too long.
To actually install this kit reliably, here what you need:
- Silicone
- Super Glue
- Screwdriver (Flat or Phillips Depending on Screw Choice)
- Wire Cutters (To Cut the Ends off of Anchors)
- 9/32" Drill Bit
- 4x #6x1.5" Machine Screw
- 4x #6x0.75" Anchors
How I installed mine:
1. Remove the plastic bracket supplied with the light. Fill the holes with silicone so that the lights are sealed again. Check in a couple minutes to ensure that the silicone didn't drip through. Add more as needed until the hole is filled.
2. Trim the ends off of your anchors so that they fit in the two plastic circles on the back of the lights. Just a little bit will do. Test fit them to make sure they go all the way in. Once you're sure they fit, super glue just the bevel at the top to the light. This is to prevent them from turning in the hole because the plastic on the light is really smooth.
3. Drill two 9/32" holes in the rear upright bars of the carrier. Make the holes 1/4" from the edge so you can still connect the wiring. Space the holes at 2 5/16". The holes need to go through the front and back of the uprights.
4. Put the screws through the back holes pointing outwards. Once the super glue has dried, screw the screws into the anchors.
5. Connect the wiring per the supplied instructions.
Great with some modifications. We are using this on a bike rack and a cargo carrier. Bikes blocked our lights on the new vehicle we got so it was unsafe. We Used Velcro to put it on the bike rack so it is removes me. Got some plastic tubing to keep the wires safer and contain the extra length. Works great. Bright. Feel much safer.
Only complaint is the back mounting plate is not connected by two screws in the middle like in the photo. It’s put on with 4 screws on the two sides…. which may seem ok but then they are not long enough to connect to the other mounting plate. Easy fix, get longer screws. But if you live far from a hardware store that would be really annoying. We were able to modify the mounting plate to work with our bike rack. Will get longer screws or mod it for the cargo rack when that time comes.
Works well, fit snug, but the plastic cap that goes over the lock broke off.
Used these on the Curt cargo carrier 24×60, just drilled a couple of holes to mount them to the carrier and also bought the HM47065, Coiled 7 pin to 4 because like the other reviews said the wire they give you isn't long enough. These were perfect for what I needed. Also, really great company, great customer service and very fast shipping, had all my orders 3 days after I ordered.
5 stars per usual for etrailer efficiency and quick turn around. This time though I have to give about
3-1/2 stars to the product. The good part: lights are bright and the wiring was correct. With some adjustments they now reside on our rack. The not so good part: the lights are pretty fragile. They included screws that were a smaller diameter than the holes so I used stainless self-tapping. They included extra parts( brackets) which show me they had a packaging screw-up. Chinese weren't on top of their game this go around...
All in all, they work and they provide me with some lights on our luggage rack.
I'll keep ordering from etrailer because I like how they operate. Bud

Its still going...lights work fine add a little safety item to the back of your vehicle when your using the cargo rack.
Well made product. The light kit is on a rear carrier for my rv. Large lights to boot!
Try another light system. The product arrived and one light would not function. A replacement was sent but it stopped working after the fourth use.

I just needed a cheap light kit for a cargo carrier, these work well. Did't get five stars because one of the lights had self-tapping sheet metal screws holding (or attempting to hold) the black bracket to the light assembly. The screws were too short, not a big deal, I had some screws at hand to replace them. The other light had the proper screws installed.
I bought this light kit because it was purpose-made to go on the Surco model 52018F cargo carrier without having to drill or modify the carrier. Upon receipt, I immediately noticed how cheaply made this item is. The brackets used to attach the lights to the carrier are cheap plastic but the real problem is the the way the brackets attach to the light fixtures. They are attached using 2 self-tapping screws that are too short for the purpose. The screws attempt, and fail, to attach a flat bracket to the rounded plastic back of the light fixture. During first use (approximately 10 mile drive on paved roads) the self-tapping screws stripped through the plastic back of the left light and left it dangling from the wiring harness. I solved the problem with the use of a hot glue gun to seal and support the plastic brackets to the light fixtures. It's my own fault. This was an inexpensive item and, at my age, I should know that you get what you pay for : (
We bought this kit to add to our Hollywood Ebike rack. I had read about how when using the bike covers they were covering up the brake lights. Hubby make brackets and added to the lights. We have not used the rack with lights yet, but it looks like it will be a good fix for added brake light safety.
You guys have great products, and the support and "how to videos" made it easy for the install of my etrailer Tow Bar,Cargo Carrier & Light Kit.
Complete instal took about 1 hour.
Just got back from a 400 mile trip to Myrtle Beach and the etrailer products were GREAT.

First off I would like to recommend etrailer. Very professional...The carrier light kit was not so much. Others had mentioned the harness was too short.. not for me.. Very good fit.. The mounting system, while a great concept, was very poor.. I was very careful trying to tighten down the sandwich mount but the mounts came off the
light so another method was needed.. I followed another customers advice and used
anchors in the fixtures and drilled holes into my carrier.. I bought this kit for the mounting function but that didn't pay off.. If I had to do it over, and I still might, I would have bought mounting brackets and the 6.5 inch lights with harness...A little more work but a proven method of installing lights..
As others have said, cable is too short - get the 12" extension (or make your own). It's the driver side light wire - it needs to be about 18" longer. It would be the perfect length then. As it is, even with the 12" extension, it doesn't attach to the receiver bar, just dangles from the zip tie on the rack to the socket on the truck.
Also, do yourself a favor and buy a bag of black 4" zip ties locally to do the job neatly. Kit only includes eight zip ties and they are large.
As another noted, the screws do strip out of the light housing where the mounting bracket attaches to them. The bracket on one of mine was loose in the box while the other was attached. All I did was go in my parts drawer of machine screws, find four (two each light) that were about the same coarse thread and about 1/2" to 5/8" long and re-attach the mounting bracket.
Once done, the lights are bright enough, look professionally done, and should be fine.
A wish list:
- As another noted was that these be LED, but that's minor.
- Change the mounts so they can be mounted within the frame or easily removed for storage. You naturally want to set the cargo rack with the hitch up, but that would place these on the concrete supporting the weight of the rack. As it is, you need to remove 4 screws from the plastic bracket and unplug them.
Well I will have to say I like the concept . But there are a few things that need to be corrected first of all the screws that are given to you to use her all wrong and I do mean all of them . the screws that are used for the brackets actually started breaking up the plastic , after trying two I stopped and found some better thinner more appropriate screws . After getting it all together I realize the lights were loose took it apart and found that the self tapping screws for the bracket to the light are two short found screws same size same length but with the threads all the way to the end and it seems to be holding OK .
The customer service was fantastic, I placed the order over the phone and Katie was so nice and helpful. The order came in quickly and the kit was easy to install.
The product is a good concept. The mounting of the lights was the problem. The plastic mounts and the screws were incompatible, so I had to drill holes in my cargo carrier and screw directly through the holes into the back of the light fixture. Perhaps a redesign to use zip ties would work better.
This Light Kit was very easy to install on my cargo carrier. I only have one complaint. I have the 24 x 60 cargo carrier with the folding arm extension. Wth the folding arm, the 4 wire flat connector was too short to connect to my Jeep. I had to purchase a 12 inch 4 wire extension. Once hooked up to my jeep, the lights worked great. The lights are big and very bright.
Needed Addition to BasketThis is a perfect and much needed addition to the Cargo Basket. Taller items in the cargo basket can block the regular lights. One note: the wiring harness is too short if you use the Folding Basket Adapter. You will need a 12" extender found at larger auto-parts stores.
Great ProductGot this for the Surco 24x60 folding cargo carrier for use on a 2005-CR-V. Easy installation and is a great safety addition to the carrier which extends back about 3 ft from the rear door. If I had to wish for something different, it would be nice to be a LED kit rather than incandescent, but not a major issue. Very pleased so far. Thanks!
Easy to attach. Only problem was the wire for the driver side light was too short. I had to order a 12 inch "4 pin loop" which is basically an extension cord. Customer service was very helpful.
Does the job. Only (small) complaint is my inability to conceal or fully secure the wiring harness.
The light set is poorly made. The bracket is screwed on to a plastic housing. Was loose right out of the box. Needed it the next day so epoxied it. My advice go to a local store and pick up an LED set for same price better quality.
