Video Transcript for Yakima Bike Racks Cradle and Strap Replacement Review

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna take you through the process of replacing your cradle on your Yakima FullTilt or FullSwing Bike Rack. Now this is the cradle that doesn't have the anti-sway. We've got all the other ones moved outta the way, so I can kind of show you real quick. This would be the cradle with the anti-sway cradle. That's not the one we're gonna be looking at today.

It's actually going to be the one that sits opposite of that, with just the single zip strip. This one comes with everything you need to get it replaced. Except for the tool, which you'll need to provide. It's just a Phillips-head screwdriver. So lets head underneath the bike rack and check out that process.

So we're not quite underneath the whole bike rack, but underneath the arms at each end, we've got our caps with two Phillips-head screws. Just wanna remove those screws, so we can take that cap off and access the cradles. With both of those removed, you can get that cap off. You may have to come up where you've got a little bit more leverage to pop it off. It's pretty easy to just flip the lever to free this up and just slide it out of the arm.

We'll grab our new one and slide it in. As you can see, it's got a sort of T-shape right here, that'll slot into the arm. And we can lock it in using that gray lever, wherever we see fit. You can see here locked in, working just fine. And unlocked and sliding where we need it to.

From there, we can just reattach that cap. Now this is a really easy part to replace, so if you do have one damaged, you can easily do it yourself. And it's nice that it comes with the zip strip too. You may not need this. Or, if you just need the zip strips, get just the zip strips. You don't need the whole cradle assembly. Otherwise, that's gonna do it for our look at this replacement cradle on your Yakima FullTilt or FullSwing Bike Racks. Thanks for watching..

  • Availability of Replacement Anti-Sway Cradles for Yakima FullTilt 4 Bike Rack
Thank you for doing your homework! You have identified the correct replacement anti-sway cradle for your Yakima FullTilt 4 Bike Rack. My contact at Yakima confirmed that their replacement anti-sway cradle for the FullTilt is indeed part # Y8890302. The other cradle you referenced, part # Y8890301, is also a valid fit.

  • Recommended 5 Bike Carrier for 2 Adult and 3 Kids Bikes
Adding the extra cradle to the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Swinging # Y02465 will void the manufacturer's warranty. If you decide to add the cradle anyway, the Replacement Cradle is # Y8890301 but it definitely will crowd the bikes and your weight limit will still remain at the 160 lbs. You may want to consider instead using the Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # TH9026XT which is designed for that 5th bike and has the arms that are 29 inches...
