Video Transcript for Yakima Roof Rack Y04048 Review

Today were going to review part number Y04048. This is the Yakima Rip Cord Multipurpose Locking Straps with rubber coated buckles. These multipurpose straps are perfect for locking up all your gear from surfboards and bicycles to trailers and ladders. These versatile straps have a wide variety of applications. They will protect your surfboard, boats, bikes, motorcycles, ladders, trailers and other gear against stuff and these will work with the Yakima SUP Nose/Tail Tie Downs part number Y04060 which is sold separately and it will help anchor your surfboards to your roof. These locking cargo straps are nylon-coated and steel -reinforced so they do have a stiff feel to them.

The buckles are a rubber-coated aluminum buckle which will safeguard your gear from scratches and abrasions and it resists corrosion for long life. This does use the SKS System which means it will come with the two lock course and the two keys and these can be swapped out to make all your Yakima locks key to like. This part number comes as quantity of two straps. The length is 12-foot per strap; comes with a lifetime warranty. Basically what you would do to install this strap is you take the one end and wrap around whatever youre tying down.

Youll run it through the bottom, it will come out the front and to run it through you do have to depress this red button all the way down to allow the strap to go through, when you let it back up that will lock the strap into place and then if you want to, you can put the key in turn it and thatll keep anybody depressing it to release that strap which will allow everything to be locked unto your vehicle. So, basically, again, if youll depress this button all the way, take the other end, just insert it in there. And as you can see it will pull all the way through, again, holding the red button down. Once let up on it, it will allow you to pull but again you could see it locks it down and you just pull more out to tighten it down and then once you get it all tightened down you could just take your key, turn it to lock it and then nobody can release the cord. Its in the lock position. And that should do itoh, and by the way it does come with a nice storage bag to carry both straps.

And that should do it for part number Y04048. .

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Replacement Straps for the Karrite Voyager Rooftop Cargo Box
  • I have a possible solution for you, however the exact straps for the Karrite Voyager are no longer available. I recommend replacing them with a set of Yakima Ripcords, part # Y04048, which are locking inch wide cables that have integrated locks for added security. Thule also offers a smaller kit that is part # 10169, which you'll need two of to replace the straps.

  • Carrying a Kayak on a 2017 Toyota RAV4 with a Factory Roof Rack
  • You have a great range of options with the 2017 Toyota RAV4's factory roof rack. You'll want to ensure that the weight of the carrier plus the weight of the kayak. My research shows that your RAV4 is rated for 100 pounds on its roof, though you'll want to verify with your owner's manual the exacts of your configuration. For a carrier, I recommend the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. This carrier includes small side ramps to assist with loading the kayak onto the vehicle, and also folds...

  • Canoe Load Stops for a Yakima Jetstream Bar
  • You can use a set of load stops like the Rhino Rack Aero version, part # RRRLH2 to limit the canoe's travel across the bars. These handy stops include a local tie-down point so you can strap the canoe down with cam straps. There's a great locking kit available from Yakima as part # Y04048. Additionally, they easily install and remove from the bars with a clamping mechanism that raises and lowers its T-bolt, letting it lock exactly into position. When I tested the fit onto the Jetstream,...

  • SeaSucker Kayak Carrier
  • SeaSucker doesn't currently produce a dedicated kayak rack, however, if you have a kayak that is less than 45 pounds, you may be able to use the SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806 as a viable alternative. The Surfboard/SUP carrier does include the tiedowns for securing the kayak to the racks, but not a bow or stern kit. For that, I recommend using the Malone Quik-Lash, part # MPG308 attachment points and their Speed-Link system, part # MPG309. This will give you a quick...

  • Using a Darby Extend-A-Truck on a 2017 Honda Ridgeline
  • If you're considering the Darby Extend-A-Truck, part # DTA944-968-924, this includes the rear crossbar that you'd need to carry the kayak safely. You will have to purchase separate tie-downs for the rack, such as the Yakima Ripcord, part # Y04048, to secure the kayak to the rack. An additional foam block, part # DTA924 can improve your overall ride and protect your kayak from damage. The Extend-A-Truck already includes one foam block, and a second will even out the provided protection. Finally,...

  • Carrying a 12 Foot Stand Up Paddleboard with a 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor
  • I have a possible solution for you, but unfortunately at this time there aren't any roof rack fits available for the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor. I would normally recommend a ladder rack, however there are no good fits for your planned tonneau cover addition. Since you're looking for 100% quick removal, your hands down best option is the SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806. This innovative rack mounts using extremely strong vacuum cups to the roof of your vehicle, completely bypassing...

  • Recommendation for Locking a Battery Box to a Trailer Frame
  • The Battery boxes we carry, see links, do not include a locking mechanism, but I came up with a solution that would work great to lock the battery box to a trailer frame or any other area you could get a strap around. The Yakima RipCord Multipurpose Strap Lock, # Y04048, would be a great way to lock a battery box. You might want to modify the length of the strap and figure out a way to secure it to the trailer frame, but it would make locking and unlocking the box simple and would be...

  • Fit of the SeaSucker Talon on a 2018 Audi A5 Sportback
  • The SeaSucker Talon, part # 298-BT1004 will be a compatible fit with the 2018 Audi A5 SportBack, though you may need to mount the rear tire on the rear glass of the vehicle depending on the bike's wheelbase. I recommend adding a few things for use with the SeaSucker Talon for ease of use and added security. For your wheel, you'll want to purchase either the Hogg, part # 298-BA1580 or Flight Deck, part # 298-BV1022. These will let you store a quick release front wheel outside of the...

  • Surfboard Rack for a Partially Open 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
  • There is a solution for your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that will let you keep the front seats uncovered, however you have to have a smooth hard top for it to work. The SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806 is the best potential solution, but requires a smooth, unpatterned top to work. It uses extremely strong vacuum cups to mount to the vehicle temporarily, and can be positioned however you need it to be on your roof. This rack is only able to carry 1 surfboard per rack,...

  • Weight Capacity for a Kayak Carrying Roof Rack System on a 2015 Nissan Rogue
  • Roof rack systems are always limited by the weakest point, be it the rack or the vehicle roof. In your case, 150 pounds is about the same as most roof systems, so you'll have a lot of options with your rack. I tend to recommend aero bars for these applications because they support the weight more evenly than other bar types because of their width. For your vehicle I recommend the Rhino Rack Vortex kit, consisting of: Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, 46 inches, part # RRVA118B-2 Rhino...

  • Security Functions for the Rola Cargo Basket
  • I have a solution for you, but the Rola Cargo Basket doesn't include any integrated security features. If you're looking to secure the basket itself, its highly unlikely that the basket can be stolen easily due to its size and shape, but you can add a security and cargo solution to the basket with the Yakima RipCord, part # Y04048. These straps can be used to secure some cargo types and their locking rubber coated buckles let you quickly and easily secure items in the cargo basket,...

  • Towing an Inflatable Boat with the Yakima Rack n Roll Trailer
  • The Yakima Rack and Roll, part # Y08106 is capable of towing your 14 foot inflatable boat. You will want to purchase longer 78 inch Crossbars, part # Y00411 to better accommodate your boat. You'll need some system to tie down the boat, and I recommend using a simpler cam system like the Yakima RipCord, part # Y04048 in order to secure the boat. A system like this helps avoid over tightening to the boat, and allows for added security by securing the 12 foot straps to the crossbars and...

  • Locking 2 Kayaks to a Roof Rack on a 2004 Toyota Tundra
  • To lock the kayaks to the vehicle I recommend a cable lock like # e98891, that you can put through something on the kayaks and then lock it to the trailer hitch safety chain loops. Another option is the Yakima multipurpose RipCord locks, # Y04048. I have included a link to a video review of these straps for you to view. Make sure that you attach the straps or cable to something that cannot be removed itself, like the hitch for example.

  • Recommended TracRac Ladder System On 2008 Toyota Tacoma For Two 10 Foot Kayaks
  • For your 2008 Toyota Tacoma, the system you are referring to and that I recommend is the T-Rac Pro2 Ladder Rack for 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma - Over-the-Cab Extension - 1,000 lbs # TH37004XT-EX. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and has a max load capacity of 1000 lbs. It has a crossbar length of 65 inches, so you will have no problem carrying two 10 foot kayaks on this rack. This system comes with 4 heavy-duty load stops, but for further security you can use the Tie-Down Loops...

  • Carrying Surfboards on a 2017 Mini Clubman S Model
  • You have two options for the 2017 Mini Clubman S Model for roof mounted surfboard racks. The first option is a targeted, single purpose use rack. For this, I recommend the SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806. This innovative rack series uses vacuum cup mounts to secure a rack temporarily to the roof of your vehicle, and is able to support 1 surf board. It's not recommended to carry two surfboards on one of these carriers as it can cause the mount to fail. That being said,...

  • Using the Erickson Over-The-Cab Ladder Rack to Transport a Canoe
  • The Erickson Over-The-Cab Ladder Rack, part # EM07707 is a good fit for a 146 inch canoe. You will need to verify any overhang laws or ordinances in your state to ensure that you're in compliance. Many of these are just a requirement to have a flag added to the end of the load. You'll also want to get a few cam straps to secure the canoe to the rack, and I recommend Yakima's RipCord, part # Y04048. These locking straps add an additional level of security and are long enough to secure...
