Video Transcript for Tow Ready Trailer Mounted 6 and 7-Way Connector Holder Review

Today on our utility trailer we're going to be modelling the tow ready 6 and 7-way connector holder for 6 and 7-way connectors. Part number 118152. Now here we are at our utility trailer we're going to be installing a holder to hold this 7-way plug when it's not in use. Now when your 7-way plug is secured here in the holder on a trailer jack, it will keep the wiring up and out of the way as well as off the ground so it won't be damaged when your trailer is in storage. When you're ready to use your 7-way plug you just simply slide it out of the holder, go ahead and then plug it into your vehicle. When you're done using the trailer and the 7-way plug you just simply slide the back into the holder here, pushing down so that it sits down in it, in this way it keeps it out of the dirt, keeps dirt and debris from getting in the end of the connector and damaging it.

By also being pointed downward it also keeps water out of the connector which could have corrode up the connections points causing certain functions of your trailer not to work properly. Here's the items that come with your tow ready trailer mounted 6 and 7-way connector holder. You get the bracket, a piece of 2-sided tape, a couple of large zip tights as well as a couple of self tapping screws of flat washers. Depending on your particular application, you may or may not use all the items. We're going to be mounting the holder to the jack of the trailer so we're not going to be using a self tapping screws of the flat washers because we don't want to drill into the self jack itself. You can mount this holder on other areas beside a trailer jack depending on your application and trailer will depend on what mounting method you'll use.

We'll go ahead and put it right here the base of your trailer jack, we're going to go ahead and use some rubbing alcohol to clean the surface of the trailer jack and where our two-sided tape will stick to it. Go ahead and clean the base of the trailer jack and make sure if there's any grease or oil or anything, that if it's cleaned off go ahead and also clean the back side of out holder. Go ahead and let it dry for a moment, then we'll peel one side of the two-sided tape off and then put it to the back side of the holder. Go ahead and put that here on the back side, peel the other half off. We'll line it up on the trailer jack where we want it, then we'll push it on tight. Next we'll take a zip tight and go around the bottom here and go ahead and tighten it down.

We'll take our other zip tight and go around the top, we'll tighten up that one as well. Go on nice and tight, make sure that the plug fits in if okay. As you can see here it slides in just fine. Once we're sure everything lines up we can go ahead and clip off the ends of the zip tight. That's all there is to installing the tow ready trailer mounted 6-way and 7-way connector holder part number 118152 on our utility trailer.

Tow Ready Trailer Mounted 6-Way and 7-Way Connector Holder by Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch and Reese - 118152

Connector holder mounts on your trailer to store your 6-way or 7-way trailer connector and makes it easy to always find your connector. Also helps keep out dust and dirt.

Initially, I thought that the installation would be a breeze. The kit by itself is fine. The problem is positioning the unit to take into account the stiffness of the cord, the connector's raised slot, and the full protective cover I have for the jack under which will be the connector holder. Took a while but got in place. I think it will work out fine.

Makes trailer harness easy to keep out of the dirt

This trailer was built from scratch using only the metal frame. I purchased some items from etrailer an was very satisfied with the products.

Looks pretty good. What type of wood did you use for the frame? What dimensions for the frame?
-- comment by: Ron J - 08/10/2014
I used poplar hardwood for the frame material and the dimensions were copied from the trailer that I took apart.
-- comment by: wayne m - 08/12/2014
It continues to work great.

I've purchased four of these over that last 10-12 years. They work great for keeping your pigtail from dragging on the ground, falling into the dirt, mud & rain when the trailer is parked, etc. If they were made out of a softer rubber compound, they would be less susceptible to cracking or braking. I've had two of the four break. That's a 50% failure rate! Based purely on the failure rate, they should get a negative review, but they're cheap & useful, so I'll probably keep using them. I'm currently building a 40' x 60' shop, in which, I will store my trailers. Hopefully, the slight change in storage temperature will lead to less failures of this product.

This little add on is easy to attach and use. It saves the plug and wiring from just being wrapped around or pulled loose and have to be replaced. The connector stays securely in the holder and looks like you take pride in your `equipment too. Highly recommend this product.

Great products, knowledgeable people, and prompt shipping.

So far so good. It's a tight fit that's good but first few times have to force it in . Mounted mine with hose clamps to jack. Keep's the plug out if the way and safe. It's Worth it to order if buying with other items.

looks great i have wait install our 2022 jayco is at the dealer with door issues

You know how when you let your neighbor borrow your trailer and they return it with your brand new 7 way wiring harness scarred from being dragged on the ground because they don't have a 7 way plug on their truck. Well no more. This would have saved my plug to begin with. The fit is snug but that is good. It should hold the plug securely at any speed and any terrain. I haven't installed it yet, but I do wish the mounting base was flat instead of concave. Maybe that won't be an issue though. etrailer is great. Do yourself a favor and buy this before your 'friend' tears up your $30 plug.

Update: Installed on the trailer. The included self tapping screws are not long enough to install the holder on a flat surface. Easy solution, got some longer ones and put the others in my toolbox.

I use this to store the trailer adapter in our RV and it works ok for that. It's made to mount on something round, but I screwed it to a compartment wall. It's heavy and well made. There are ribs inside it that prevent the adapter from being completely inserted. I don't know why there are ribs inside, but it still works.

The connector holder is one of those set it and forget it items, but is worthwhile. It securely holds the connector, and keeps it out of the way so its not rattling around in the storage compartment. I would recommend it.

I'm building a permanent ice shack and needed a way to keep the trailer light cord out if the ice and slush when the frame sits on the ice. This should do the trick. Installed today and keeps the cord connector in a safe place.

It’s a holder. Kept the plug out of the snow and ice in the lake. Keeps the cord away from the lawnmower all summer long.

I wanted this electric cord holder for my 5th wheel camper. I wanted easy access to my cord while hooking without leaning over my tailgate. This came in and I was skeptical of the curved shape at the mounting side. I shouldn't have worried as the mount flattened to my surface nicely. Now I can reach my cord from the side of the pickup right in the area my inner box plug-in is. I did buy a couple new screws to mount this as I thought the screws that came with it would be a tad short. Overall very pleased and as always the shipping and quickness of receiving my order was outstanding.

Works how it should after a full year.

They work great, it keeps your plug secure and dry when the weather is bad ,for little they cost their worth every penny.

Good Quality Product.
Excellent Communication
from Fast delivery!

We ve used the product extensively. It is very durable and serviceable. Highly recommended!

Quick delivery. Item works as advertised. Every trailer should have one of these attached to the hitch.

Best light made, every trailer should have one on each side.
Les F - 10/18/2017

Perfect holder for the fifth wheel cable. Connector slides in and out with ease.

Still a great holder and still looks like new.
MLP - 11/30/2018

Product was as advertised, shipped and arrived quickly. About 30 minutes from the time I unboxed it until it was completely installed. The video clips show exactly how the install should go, which saved me a lot of time when I fit it in around the muffler. Bridget in Customer Service was very helpful, and provided great follow-up. This was my second purchase from etrailer, and the experience was the same both times. Great products, and great service. Thank you!

Easily mounted right on the jack post and keeps the connector protected and out of the way. It's a nice snug fit, so the connector won't fall out. You get three mounting options included, screws, zip ties & dual sided adhesive tape. I used both the zip ties & tape and it's pretty secure.

Does the job, but the zip ties were a little stiff, hard to get tight.

Works good to keep plug clean and off the ground

Much better to have cable in this holder attached to jack shaft, well above the ground instead of drooping from tongue. Holder is as advertised, easy to install.

Great item....I installed one on both My keeps the electrical connector from falling on the ground and corroding.

Not sure why the back is concave but makes installing on flat surface less stable

am completely satisfied with the products and would order again.

Jut A "little Item", But Very Handy To Use, It Holds The 7 Pin Connecter To Trailer Frame At Such An Angle That Water Never Gets In The Plug Causing Rust + Such. Very Neat Item. Excellent Service From E-Trailer, Great Follow Up + Fast Delivery, Will Buy From Again. Rich

  • Mounting Bracket to Hold 7-Way on Trailer
Wee have the 7-way holder part # 118152 which is probably the closest thing we offer to what you need. It mounts to a round tube like a trailer jack and then allows a 7-way to store in it face down. Face down means that the pins won't be susceptible to water and dirt as easily. Storing a connector inside a box sounds good but in reality it's impossible to make the box waterproof and if water were to make it into the box it would corrode easier.

  • Mounting Options for the Tow Ready Trailer Mounted 6-Way and 7-Way Connector Holder
For this Tow Ready Trailer Mounted 6-Way and 7-Way Connector Holder # 118152, you would want to use the included zip-ties for installing it onto a tongue jack, and then use the self-tapping screws for installing onto the frame. You could also use the zip-ties to install it onto the trailer frame if needed, but I would not recommend drilling the screws into the side of the jack as it might damage internal components.

  • 7-Way Plug Mount for Trailer to Secure Connector When Not in Use
Sounds like you are looking for a clip/mount for your trailer to put the 7-way when not connected to the tow vehicle. For that we have the part # 118152 which would work well for this. Normally people zip tie this around the trailer jack tube and set the connector in it.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Wiring Adapter Retains Use of Rear 7-Way for 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty
There is a specific wiring harness for your 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty that is a better fit than the 20023 wiring harness. You will need Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # 20110. For this harness, your vehicle will have to have a factory tow package, which you have indicated that your truck does. The harness plugs in between the the OEM wiring harness and the factory 7-Way connector. You will still be able to use the factory 7-Way with this harness installed. I have included...

There is a fifth-wheel and gooseneck wiring harness for your 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup. You will want a Hopkins fifth-wheel and gooseneck wiring harness, part # HM42137, for your Ram. I have attached an installation video for this product on a very similar truck for you to check out. • 6-Way Recommendation for Trailer and Tow Vehicle
For the trailer side 6-way you would want the part # PK11604 and then for the matching socket you would want the part # PK11609. We don't carry any grommets for the vehicle side 6-way that you referenced and the part # 118152 would be a great choice for storing the 6-way.
