Video Transcript for Toledo Master Cylinder for Toledo Brake Actuators Installation

On this old flatbed trailer we're going to install the master cylinder for Toledo Brake actuators. Part number 10614. This is what you get with this part number. You have the master cylinder itself, a new rubber boot on this side here and new brass fitting on the other side. We flip it over and we see a new cap that comes with it as well. When your weight of your trailer goes up against the hitch ball, the plunger goes against this side of the master cylinder, that in turns shoves fluid out the other side and then on to your brakes. First up on our install, we'll go ahead and remove preexisting brake line. Next up we'll go ahead and remove two bolts that hold the master cylinder in place.

With the nuts removed we'll go ahead and drive out the bolts out the other side. Next we'll go ahead and work the old master cylinder out, away from the coupler. Now we'll go ahead and put our new master cylinder in to place then we'll go ahead and make sure it seats up against the master cylinder inside the boot. To get the master cylinder lined up with the existing holes, it may be helpful to go ahead and take the coupler end and pull it back out of the way if you need more room. Then we'll go ahead and reinstall the original hardware. With the master cylinder secured into place we will go ahead and reinstall the brake line.

One neat trick we can do with this brass fitting is loosen up the bolt. We can adjust the fitting to make it easier to match up to our brake line. With the line hooked up, all that remains is to go ahead and add fluid to the master cylinder and go ahead and bleed the brakes out. That will finish it for the master cylinder for Toledo Brake actuators, part number 10614.

I have a 1978 boat trailer that the master brake wore out on. That particular brand isn't available anymore, but this is a drop in replacement and the only change was the output fitting threads. For me, this saved a ton of work. I have attached pictures. 399044

Ask the Experts about this Toledo Accessories and Parts

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Replacement Parts for Balcrank 16006 Brake Actuator
  • To replace your surge brakes there are a few things you'll need to know, the first being if you have drum or disc brakes. You can then choose the correct disc or drum brake assembly; you'll need to know your axle capacity and wheel size for either. You will also need to know your bolt flange pattern and drum size if you have drum brakes. You will then need the correct brake actuator and a brake line kit, which is going to be different if you have disc or drum brakes. I have added links...

  • Compatibility of Parts for Military Trailer
  • The parts you listed will need to be compatible with what is on your M101A3 military trailer, rather than the trailer itself. For example, the Master Cylinder # 10614 and Replacement Shock Absorber # 1844-2 are for Toledo brake actuators; if that is what you have on your trailer, then these parts will work. The same is true of the Wheel Cylinder - RH # BP17-020 and LH # BP17-030; they are replacements for 10" and 12" single serve brake assemblies manufactured by Dexter, Bendix, Dico,...

  • Availability of a Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit for a Toledo Trailer Brake Actuator
  • We have a few different parts for Toledo actuators but not a master cylinder rebuild kit. We have the master cylinder that you referenced, # 10614. We also have a replacement shock, # 1844-2, a pivot bushing, # 1745, and a pivot shaft, # 1829. If your master cylinder is bad then going with the replacement master cylinder you referenced would be the way to go.

  • Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit Or Gaskets
  • I believe what you are looking for is the Replacement Gasket for Older Orifice Fitting - Titan Model 10 and Model 20 Brake Actuators, # T0774500. We also have Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 60 and Aero 7500 Brake Actuators - Drum, # T4395100 if you want an entirely new master cylider with gaskets. If there is something more specific you are looking for, please let me know and include your make/model of brake actuator so I can better assist you.

  • How to Test the Toledo Actuator Part # 16006
  • Have you tried to tow the trailer to see if the brakes engage? If this is not an option then you will want to first make sure the master cylinder is full of fluid and then use a wooden plank to compress the actuator and see if that engages the brakes. You can also pull the breakaway to see if that engages the brakes but there is not a manual that I am aware of. If the brakes don't engage then you will want to look for leaks or check for broken pieces. We currently offer the following replacement...
