Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator T4835800183 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan zinc-plated solenoid shield for the Titan model 60 trailer-brake actuators. This is a nice corrosion-resistant cover that'll bolt on to the rear of your Titan model 60 actuator, to protect the electric reverse lockout valve. The zinc plating will help resist corrosion. Just to show you where this will attach, I happened to pull a Titan model 60 actuator. You can see this one already has the solenoid valve attached to it. Basically you can see it ...

now this one I've added to it, it didn't come with the solenoid vale, but I just added it. You want to protect it so nobody steps on it or breaks it. All you have to do is remove the 2 screws right here, and then remove this cover that comes on the actuator. Then this solenoid shield, basically what you will do is you will need to remove the 2 screws up on the top here. Just bolt those 2 on there, then you just bend it down till those 2 screws line up. Once you have that, that'll give you protection of the solenoid valve so it doesn't get damaged.

It's well worth adding this onto if you have a solenoid valve at the back of your actuator. That should do it for the review on the Titan zinc-plated solenoid shield for the Titan model 60 brake actuators.

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Comparing Demco and Titan Disc Brake Actuators with Electric Lockouts
  • That is a tough question to answer as both are excellent manufacturers with their respective pros/cons. In regards to brake actuators, they both make and manufacture them here in the U.S.A. and they both come with a one year warranty. In regards to differences, Demco makes a wide range of different trailer and towing products whereas Titan specializes more in trailer brakes. WIth that being said we have had more positive feedback from Titan products in regards to trailer brakes, actuator...

  • Recommended Replacement Brake Actuating Surge Coupler for Atwood 85778
  • Thanks for the photo. That is a great help for getting you the correct replacement. I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator - Drum Brakes - Zinc Plated - 2" Ball - 6,000 lbs # 8605001 for a nickel plated option. This coupler does not have the reverse lockout, so you will need to add it using the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # T4748800 and the shield # T4835800183. We don't have any Atwood replacement master cylinders...

  • Adding Electric Lockout and 5-Way to Trailer with Titan Model 60 Actuator
  • To add an electric lockout to your Titan Model 60 actuator only requires the part # T4748800 and then if you wanted to add a shroud to protect the lock out you'd also need the part # T4835800183. To activate the electric lock out you need a reverse light circuit carried to it. Typically a 5-way is needed for this to carry the extra circuit. For a 5-way you'd then want the part # W002290 which you can replace your 4-way with. For a 7-way to a 5-way adapter then you'd want the part #...

  • Do I Need To Install A Brake Controller To Activate Or Deactivate Surge Trailer Brakes In Reverse?
  • Great question. Let me cover brake activation first. If you wish to have active braking on a hydraulic system when backing up, you would need to have Electric over Hydraulic brakes and not a surge brake coupler. Surge brake couplers do not allow active braking when in reverse. To add the electric over hydraulic system, it will require a brake controller like # 39523 and an electric over hydraulic brake actuator like the HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc...

  • Can a Reverse Lockout Solenoid Be Added to an Actuator That Does Not Have a Lockout Solenoid
  • Yes, you can add a solenoid valve to your brake actuator on your trailer to prevent the brakes from locking up when in reverse as long as you have the standard 3/16 inch brake lines on your trailer. You will need a Replacement Solenoid Valve # T4748800. This valve will attach between the master cylinder and your brake line and it will wire into the reverse light circuit on your trailer. Once your vehicle is put in reverse the solenoid valve closes and prevents pressure from reaching...

  • Titan Model 60 Drum Brake Actuator with Electric Lockout
  • The Titan model 60 drum brake actuator # T4339720 does feature an electric lockout and the multi-fit type ball coupler rather than a lever lock style. You can simply add an electric lockout to the existing coupler. This will save you time and money. My contact at Titan confirmed this is a good way to go. You can use parts # T4748800 and # T4835800183.

  • How to Wire Titan # T4748800 Reverse Lock-Out Solenoid Valve
  • The Titan Replacement Reverse Lockout Solenoid you mentioned is extremely easy to wire. The solenoid has two wires exiting it. One wire grounds to the trailer tongue, the other would connect to the reverse light circuit on the tow vehicle. Once wired, the solenoid will close when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse, preventing the trailer brakes from applying when the trailer is backed. Since it sounds like both your vehicle and trailer have a 4-pole connector, you'll need to install...

  • Orientation of Roller Assemblies when Reassembling Titan Model 60 Brake Actuator
  • When assembling the roller assembly, the rollers should be installed so that the beveled edges face the outside of the tongue, away from the shock absorber. I have confirmed this with my contact in the Technical Services department at Titan.

  • Is a Reverse Electric Lockout Needed on a Boat Trailer with Titan Model 60 Actuator
  • The issue is that with the way a surge coupler works when backing up, normally up hill, the trailer is pushing the other way which will cause the actuator to compress in sending fluid back to engage the brakes. This makes it very difficult or impossible sometimes to back the trailer up. There are 2 kinds of lock outs to prevent this, a manual which is built into an actuator and prevents the coupler from pushing in, and there is the electric type. It will energize when the vehicle is...

Couplers are available with either electric or manual lockout, or no lockout. This particular Titan coupler does not offer this function. If you wish you can install additional components to provide this function in your coupler. You will need Titan Solenoid Valve, part # T4748800, and Titan Solenoid Shield, part # T4835800183. All that is missing is an electric lockout solenoid which can be purchased separately, part # T4748800. • The reverse lockout solenoid you recently purchased, part # T4748800, is intended for use in a number of actuators from Titan and Dico, including newer production of the Titan Model 10 Drum Brake Actuator. In these applications the valve, with its 1/8-27 fine pipe threads, should be a direct fit. • The Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator, # T43329007K, that you referenced does not include a lockout system for backing your trailer, but an electric lockout solenoid, # T4748800, can be added to allow you to back the trailer. At this time we do not have a 7,000 lb coupler with a reverse lockout factory installed. I'd suggest getting a matching connector for your trailer like # PK11893 or # HM47900 and hardwiring the reverse wire directly to your battery and run a ground wire to the negative battery terminal from the connector. We have learned that in order to attach this solenoid to the master cylinder, the fitting that is currently on the master cylinder will need to be removed and the solenoid threaded directly on in its place. The Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators, is # T4748800. It fits Titan Model 6, Model 60, Aero 7500, Model 10, and Model 20 actuators. I could not find any information on a Model 66.
