The unique free-backing design, patented by DICO, lets your trailer move in reverse without actuating the brakes. When you begin backing up, the brake shoes are firm against the drum, as in a braking situation. As you continue in reverse, however, the shoes turn with the drum until the lining pressure is released and you are able to back up freely.

These brakes are designed to eliminate friction between the shoes and drum when you are driving in reverse. A trailer breakaway kit will not be effective should your trailer disconnect from your tow vehicle when backing up.

Drum brake assembly provides superior protection from corrosion and lets you reverse without actuating. Designed for use with hydraulic brake actuators that do not include reverse lockouts. Fits most 14-1/2", 15" and 16" wheels.

I replaced the right and left brake assemblies and repacked the wheel bearings on my 1979 EZ Loader trailer on a Saturday afternoon. The entire job was very easy to do. I did have to do some minor re-tapping of the original hydraulic fittings primarily to get it to thread into the assembly fitting with ease, but even that was a snap (my neighbor just happened to have a tap and die set). I pull about 4000 lb of Searay and trailer combined (I weighed them on a public scale), and it was past time to replace the assemblies and actuator which had major corrosion after all those years of good service. If nothing else, I have peace of mind that all is well behind me.

The brakes fit perfectly and have performed flawlessly. The replacement was just routine maintenance to replace worn brakes. They shipped fast, well packed and ready to bolt on.

Buying them fully assembled was far easier than trying to replace the shoes themselves. Besides, if you exposed your trailer to any kind of salt water - you'll definitely want to change ALL parts. The cost is negligible and well worth knowing they will perform when yo need them to. Why chance replacing just a few parts? Yea, you might save some money, but not much.

Fantastic service and parts! I doubt I'll shop elsewhere!

Thank you!

Bolt on in place of the old ones in less time than it takes to try to clean up and repair the rusty old ones. Great price too. The Galphotire coating looks like it will outlast the trailer. Definitely made my job easier. I used these to repair the brakes on an M-1102 military trailer. These don't have the parking brake option like the original brakes, but then I never used the Parking brake. E-trailer also has the assemblies with the parking brake.

replaced 10 yr old brakes on my boat trailer.easy install @ all ss springs etc.only wish backing plate had holes front @ back for fresh water flush. they have a hole for fw flush, but only on one side. other than that, a well made @ coated marine brake.

Ordered both left and right assemblies. These look great and bolted right up. Adjusted easily. Only trouble with these is my brake line fitting would not thread into the wheel cylinder. I had to re-tap the holes on both sides. I first thought it was just some oversight on the first assembly, but when I had to do it on both of them, then that made me start to wonder. If you order these, don't be suprised if you also need a 1/8-27 NPT to run in the wheel cylinder ports. I'm sure I will like these much better than the original rusted steel assemblies that these replaced. Time will tell.

This product is better than buying just wheel cylinders and brake shoes. The price made me skeptical of the quality, but these appear to be the real deal. They come fully assembled down to the contact points being already lubed. The shipping was unbelievably fast and everything was packed carefully and suitably to protect the products from damage in shipping. It is very evident that the employees at care about their products and customers.

I have been very pleased with all the products that i have ordered from etrailer. The delievery has been faster then i had anticipated. I highly recommend anyone that is looking for trailer products, to look around on your web site first.

Very happy with products, seem to be good quality and are exact match for a 15 yr. trailer. Everyone that I talk to is very professional and helpful. Will have no problem doing business with this company again.

Everything checked out pretty well. It all fit as it should and seems to be as same quality as what was removed. looking forward to using etrailer again for parts.

  • Troubleshooting Kodiak 225 Trailer Brake System that Keeps Breaking Calipers In Half
I spoke to my contact at Kodiak about the issue you are having and he said that sometimes if a trailer braking system is doing way too much of the braking the pressure can get too high for the calipers and they can break (not brake). He said that the trailer's brakes are designed as a supplement for the vehicle's braking and they are not intended to do the majority of the braking for the towing setup.

  • Trailer Disc Brake Venting Design
Slotted rotors do a great job dissipating heat on disc brake systems. Trailer brakes do create heat, but the venting between both sides of the rotors is sufficient for dissipating heat for trailers. I attached a page that has all of the disc brake systems we offer for trailers. Typically only performance vehicles come with slotted rotors. Most vehicles that are used for just regular everyday driving use rotors just like the ones in the link I attached.

  • Troubleshooting Brakes Not Working on 1984 Holiday Rambler with Surge Brakes
There are several possibilities that could be causing your brakes to not function properly. Is there a certain reason you believe the issue to be the master cylinder? Poor braking performance may not mean a faulty master cylinder. The first thing you will want to check is the brake adjustment. It could be that the brakes need to be adjusted and so they are not functioning. Another option is to take the hub off to inspect the brake pad to see how much brake pad is left. This is a good...

  • How to Identify Capacity of Axles on 2009 Keystone Sydney 31KFW
The quickest and easiest way to identify your axle capacity is by the wheel bearings. If you can get me the reference numbers from your inner and outer bearings, I should be able to easily determine your axle capacity. The bearing numbers are stamped into the bearing cage as shown in the photo I have edited for you. Once the capacity is known, I can recommend replacement hubs and brake assemblies.

  • Titan Brake assembly 12 x 2 Free Backing for Boat Trailer
Painted drum brake assemblies are not usually recommended for use in marine applications. The Titan Galphorite Free-Backing Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assembly - 12 inch, item # T4489500, right hand and, item # T4489600, left hand are the brakes I would recommend for your boat trailer. These assemblies are complete and ready to bolt on to your trailer brake mounting flange and are galphorite plated to resist the corrosion caused from backing the trailer into the water to launch the boat. • Can 6,000 Pound Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assemblies be Used on a 5,200 Pound Axle
The more pricey Demco Hydraulic Brake Assemblies, like # 42028, are designed for marine applications meaning it uses corrosion resistant materials to minimization or eliminate corrosion. The materials are more expensive which makes the assemblies cost more. For non-marine trailer applications, the Titan Free-Backing Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assembly, # T4489600, and # T4489500, would work just fine. These assemblies are rated for use on up to 6,000 pound axles, so you could use them on...

  • Restoring Damaged Brakes and Lights on 1984 Holiday Rambler Trailer Left Stationary for 15 Years
It is not at all unreasonable that a travel trailer left idle for 15 years will need lots of TLC, including brake and lighting components, plus potentially others. Even in the best storage conditions, 15 years can wear heavily on things like wiring, lights, brake assemblies and other trailer systems like water and sewage. My online research of 1984 Holiday Rambler 32-foot travel trailers reveals that several were offered in the 32-foot length, the Ambassador, Imperial and Presidential...

  • Free-Backing 12 x 2 Drum Brake Drags When Moving Forward on Karavan Boat Trailer
Thank you for providing the photo of the left-hand brake assembly on your boat trailer. The bolt that attaches your actual brake shoe to the shoe lever arm should be tight, but we do not have an actual torque specification. It is intended that the bolt provide a pivot point for movement between those two parts. • Comparing Demco and Titan 12 x 2 Inch Hydraulic Drum Trailer Brakes
The difference in price, besides being from two different manufacturers, is the materials. Demco assembly # 42028 is galvanized steel. Titan assembly # T4489600 is Galphorite plated steel. So you could say that a galvanized material is superior to a plated one though the Galphorite is certainly a fantastic product. It also has a better warranty. The matching Titan right hand side assembly is # T4489500. Other than that there isn't a reason why you couldn't use either one provided they...

  • How to Determine Which Brake Pads Work on my Trailer?
The replacement brake pads you need are determined by the caliper that you have on your trailer. The Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads # K250CP fit any Kodiak caliper with the 250 stamped on them. If you have a different caliper and/or a different sized axle these likely won't fit in your existing calipers. If you can let me know what type of caliper you have or what axle you have on your trailer, I can recommend the correct replacement brake pads for you- pictures also work.

  • How Does Brake Controller Wire to Vehicle and Trailer as Well as Charge Circuit for Trailer
The brake controller needs to be have power and ground ran to it on the black and white wires, the red wire runs to the stoplight circuit that only has voltage when brakes are applied, and blue runs to the 7-way to connect to the trailer brakes. To charge the battery you'd need to run 10 gauge wire to the positive post of the battery like with part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot and then for a circuit breaker part # 9510.
