Product arrived early. I have it installed but haven't tested yet. Bracket came without tapped holes but was able to figure out online that the bolts are self tapping. I'd suggest putting a note in the package the the bolts are self tapping to avoid confusion. 567017

So far so good. No more leaks and works as intended after I was able to properly bleed the brakes.

Good price, fast shipping. Switched my old mounting bracket to the new master cylinder because the new bracket is not tapped to use the original bolts. 299561

Master cylinder was as per the detail. The only difference from original was that the mounting points on the original one were tapped with a thread which saved you having to take the whole surge actuator off the draw bar. It still works and fit perfectly. 278693

Ask the Experts about this Titan Accessories and Parts

  • Do All Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators Have the Return Springs on the Master Cylinder Assembly
The springs on the side of the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators part # T1777405 are designed to pull the bracket and plunger back into position when applying the brakes in your tow vehicle to release the brake fluid. If you have a Titan Model 6 Brake Actuator then the correct master cylinder assembly will have these springs. I think you may be looking at the Master Cylinder for Model 6 Drum Brake Actuators part # T1027100 which is just simply one component...

  • If Model 6 Surge-O-Matic is Leaking Fluid Near Coupler Does Master Cylinder Need to be Replaced
It very well could be the master cylinder assembly. To replace the master cylinder on your Surge-O-Matic Model 6 you would need the part # T1777405. Before replacing the unit though I would try taking your actuator apart to make sure that all of the connections are secure. It could be that the connections aren't quite secure which would result in all of the fluid you are seeing.

  • Purpose of Springs on Titan Master Cylinder Assembly # T1777405
The two springs on the outside of the Titan Master Cylinder Assembly # T1777405 that you referenced are actually pretty integral to its operation. What will happen is that the steel (silver colored) bracket that mounts to the coupler housing will move forward from the main assembly when the trailer is being pulled. The springs will then essentially pull the bracket and plunger back into position when applying the brakes in your tow vehicle to release the brake fluid. With this in mind there...

  • Trailer Disc Brakes not Releasing on Trailer with Titan Model 6 Actuator
I do not think it is the lockout solenoid causing the problem on your model 6 actuator but if it is closing for some reason when braking and moving forward (and then not opening again) that would explain why the brakes won't release. It should have 1 power wire and 1 ground wire. If the ground wire is missing then that could also explain it because it could be a case of the solenoid working intermittently because of that ground. Here is a test you can do with the actuator: With the trailer...

  • Solution for Titan Model 6 Trailer Surge Actuator that Sticks
The springs shouldn't need any adjustment and they should feel pretty tight by hand. Did you replace the shock? That's typically what causes the brakes to stick like you mentioned. For a replacement shock for the Model 6 like what the master cylinder you referenced fits you'd want the part # T1242600.

  • Replacement 10-inch by 1-1/2 inch Trailer Brake Shoes
If you are looking for 10-inch by 1-1/2 inch brake shoes we have one option, # BP04-065. They fit Dexter 2.8K axles. Also, in most cases replacing the brake assemblies will be less expensive than replacing the shoes. If you need grease seals too I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers of your hub. It is usually stamped on the outside of the seal.

  • Master Cylinder to Convert Titan Surge-o-Matic Model 6 Actuator to Disc Brake Operation
You are correct that disc brakes require an actuator with higher psi pressure than what is required by drum brakes. Drum brakes need pressure of 1000-psi but discs need 1500 to 1600-psi. You can convert your Titan Surge-O-Matic Model 6 actuator to disc brake operation by replacing the master cylinder with part # T1777405. This kit includes the master cylinder, mounting plate, hex bolt, push rod assembly and installation hardware. If your brakes locked up this should not be due to the...

It sounds like you might have the master cylinder for the Titan Model 6 Brake Actuator, either part # T1777401 for Drum or # T1777405 for Disc. This particular master cylinder features two springs, one on each side, that assist with pulling the bracket and plunger back into position when applying the brakes. • Does Master Cylinder on Actuator Need to be Changed to Switch From Drum Brakes to Disc Brakes
Yes, you do need to change the master cylinder on your actuator if you are converting from drum brakes to disc brakes. The correct master cylinder will depend on the model of your actuator. - Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 10 and Model 20 Brake Actuators # T4749501042 - Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T4820000 - Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators # T1777405

  • What are the Dimensions of the Mounting holes on the Titan Model 6 Master Cylinder
I went out to our warehouse and took a measurement of the mounting holes of the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # T1777405. The part that you referenced, # T1027100, was out of stock, but the whole replacement assembly we do have in stock. From center to center of the bolt, the measurement was close to 3-3/16 inches. The bolt size that is mounted through that bore holes is 3/8 of an inch.

  • Can the Check Valve on a Titan Drum Brake Actuator be Removed for Use with Disc Brakes
Technically, the check valve on the drum actuator, # T4079200, can be removed. However, it is not recommended to do so because you could end up damaging the master cylinder. It would be best to go with the appropriate actuator, # T4747200. You could also replace the master cylinder in the drum brake actuator using the disc brake master cylinder # T1777405.

  • Comparing The Titan Master Cylinder Assemblies For Model 6 Brake Actuators
The difference between the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Drum # T1777401 and the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Disc # T1777405 is psi compatibility. The master cylinder for disc brakes requires 1600 psi for proper function. Drum brakes only require 1000 psi.

  • Converting Titan Model 6 Drum Brake Actuator for New Disc Brakes
When replacing the master cylinder on your existing Titan Model 6 Actuator, you will want to use a master cylinder for disc brakes like # T1777405. The master cylinder that is currently on your actuator is designed for the lower pressure drum brakes, so changing to one for disc brakes is highly recommended. This master cylinder assembly is designed for Titan Model 6 brake actuators and will include the master cylinder, mounting plate, hex bolt, push rod assembly and installation hardware.

  • Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator Compresses but Does Not Extend
The shock should compress when force is applied but then extended out again when no force is on it. It sounds like you have identified a faulty component. There may also be some debris that is causing it to not extend back out but given that the unit was used it is probably in need of replacement. Chances are that other components are equally as worn so I would look closely at the master cylinder as well. If it is in need of replacement then use # T1777401 for drum brakes or # T1777405...

  • Will Removing Check Valve on Master Cylinder Keep Brakes from Engaging When Backing Up
Removing the check valve from the master cylinder for hydraulic drum brakes, like part # T1777401, enables it to put out a greater psi rating so that it will be compatible with hydraulic disc brakes that require the higher psi rating. If you are mechanically inclined and you carefully reassemble the master cylinder then you can remove the check valve. However, if you are less mechanically inclined then it would be better to replace the drum master cylinder with a disc master cylinder,...
