Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Thule replacement spring hinge. This is going to replace the spring hinge for your Thule SportRack Explorer or Skyline XL cargo boxes. So because this is a direct replacement from Thule, you can trust it is going to fit right in place of the original spring hinge for those cargo boxes. No worries about fit issues or compatibility problems. And this will also fit with the Sears X-Cargo cargo box.
And so if you're needing to replace a hinge for any of those cargo boxes, this is gonna do a great job for you. Just to give you a little reassurance, you can see from our pivot point there out to our attachment point here, we're looking at approximately. five and a half inches there. So, to give you a little bit more confidence that this is gonna be the kind of hinge that you need for your cargo box. So that completes our look for today.

We have an older Sears EXCARGO carrier (purchased in 1989). this came with metal interior hinges and did not have built in locks. Instead it the ability to lock top to bottom with small padlocks. Importantly, the metal interior hinges for this model were much longer than the spring hinges and attached to the opening (front) side of the base and not to the hinged side. In order for these spring hinges to work, the padlocked and hinge hardware of the top needed to be reversed so that the spring hinge attached to the hinged (back) side of the base.
Hope this helps others with an ancient EXCARGO.
First off, etrailer was the only company that gave me any hope of finding a key to fit a Karrite roof box from the early '90s. Thule told me they didn't support the old stuff from a company they acquired, but etrailer responded that there was a good chance the Thule N key of the same number would fit the Karrite lock with a 3 digit code. They were right and I'm back in business. The latches for the explorer box were an exact fit as well. The explorer spring hinges and Adventurer box support plates required some modification to work, but I expected that going in. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is the Thule change key that I added to meet the minimum order for free shipping. The spring hinges are a bit weak for the larger box which likes to distort the lid when it is being opened or closed. They work well at holding the lid open, but I bent one of the arms while closing the lid. At some point I'll reinforce the arms where they are a bit thin near the pivot. Etrailer helped make the old box functional so I didn't have to spend 10x as much for a new one.
I purchased this product and used it on a Sears SPORT 15 CAV. It took a trip to the hardware store to gets nuts and bolts and a little drilling out to remove the other hinges but this replaced the original broken hinge extremely well. The lid stays open even better than the original!
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a broken hinge in the Sears SPORT carriers.
Always a good experience with etrailer. I got these hinges for a Sears xcargo roof top cargo box. Way easy fix.
The lifter hinges were easy to install and I was able to use my existing hardware. I should have purchased these years ago since one of my old lifters was broken. On my last photo you can also see the tools I used. Even if you just need one lifter, I would suggest replacing them both so the carrier lid lines up correctly.

These were exactly what I need for our Sears X-Cargo Carrier. Sears Parts Direct has two listings for this part# (03810). I'm glad I purchased from etrailer.com at half the price. The parts shipped on the same day my order was placed and arrived in great shape. The installation was straight forward and very easy to do.
You did not include the important nut/screw that attaches the unit to the Cargo Box. Now I have to search out that specialty piece. WTF

It was looking around the Net for this part because I didn't want to throw out our Roof Turtle :) Found the part at a great price and it was delivered within 5 days... Not like the weeks it takes for a cheep part coming from China.

After a year of using the hinge for the turtle it is still as good as new!
The hinge I purchased for my turtle top arrived quickly and as described. However, I am a bit disappointment in the craftsmanship of the item. After a week of use, the plastic around the nut cracked quite substantially. I contacted the seller and a new one was sent out immediately. I am very satisfied with the customer service at etrailer, but I am a bit leery concerning the durability of the hinge.
This is the second time I needed a replacement part for my old Sears Xcargo roof top carrier and etrailer came through for me both times. I couldn't believe how easy it was to find on the etrailer web page. The price of the part and the shipping cost were reasonable and it arrived quickly . Etrailer runs a great business.

Ordered this part for our Karrite Voyager carrier top. The spring hinge we purchased worked out perfectly.
Functions as OEM. I ordered a pair so both sides have the same tension. I recommended for X-Cargo replacements. I would suggest etrailer sell them as a pair, with a little discount, since the springs tend to "relax" over time. Thanks and I'm back in business now!
I tried to order the replacement hinge from Sears since it was their car top carrier, and I had no luck with them. I found Etrailer online and they were great. Order was processed quickly and the price was reasonable.
So grateful I was able to find replacement parts for my old whopper topper roof box. Fits great! Easy to install. One draw back, it doesn't come with scews or washers. One on mine was stripped and I had to take apart the broken bars to salvage that one before I could install it. Glad to be able to open the box fully again for easy loading and unloading!
The right part for my cargo carrier. The picture and description was accurate. The part is as good if not better than the original hinge that didn't break on the other side of the carrier. And as always, dealing with etrailer is fast and convenient

What a great company! following up a year later! Unheard of. That is why I use etrailer.com!
I have an old version of the Sears X-Cargo and one of the hinges broke. These replacement hinges did the trick and was fairly easy to replace old with new. My only complaint is that the new hinges don't allow the carrier to open quite as wide as it did before, but they did the trick and I will be able to work around it.
I bought a rooftop carrier for my car and did not realize the hinges had to be attached every time you opened the carrier. (Did not buy the carrier from here). This just did not work for me. These hinges are a life saver and make the carrier useable. I had to drill holes to make them work but it was worth it. I would buy from here again. 5 star in my book.
The hinge sent to me was the perfect fit. Very satisfied with the part and etrailers recommendation. I highly recommend them.

The part is working fine. I will definitely use etrailer again.
Of course, my review is just installing the item. You do have to reuse the nuts, bolts and washers from the hinge you are replacing. I am sure you could order them. Looks to be better quality than the one I replaced and this was a 17 year old carrier. I would recommend and will recommend ordering this part for replacing a broken hinge. Good price.
The hinge worked as good or better than the original part that broke after 15+ years of use.

This item does not include the hardware to install it to a trailer. You will need to locate hardware that would work.
