Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 5-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

After working with your team, I was able to find my plug on 2023 GMC Sierra. It was cleverly disguised with a fake plug adapter probably to keep it from damage. Once found it was truly a plug and play situation. Your team were amazing. Thank You. Your team is why I continue to work with you.

I haven't had this brake controller installed yet, but it looks like it's fairly straight forward and easy to do, even for someone that's not very mechanically inclined. We'll see how it goes. I received the brake controller device and the wiring device in minimum time, very quick to arrive!!

by:

the controller has great reviews, I got it because my factory controller wasn't working well with the new camper that has electric/hydraulic brakes and I was experiencing a 5 second lag for the trailer brakes to come on. this controller works better with a 2 to 3 second lag, need to try a couple different combos on settings, have the boost at 3 (per recommendations) and gain at 2.5 and under hard braking it locks up the trailer tires. going to try boost on 2 and bump up the gain and see if that works better.

by:

We added the Prodigy 2 as an aftermarket controller to our 2019 Chevy Suburban that we use to tow a climbing wall, kayak trailer and bike trailer. Installation was as simple as can be and it makes the towing experience much nicer. The only hiccup was that there was a hiccup with what adapter the system thought we needed and so we were sent the wrong one. Fortunately, etrailers customer service was top notch and they resolved the issue and made everything right!

I used this wire harness on a 2019 GMC truck to connect a trailer brake controller. After removing the protective cover from the truck's under dash connector I was able to plug in the harness with no issues.

work great for my application

by:

Very easy installation in about twenty minutes. Connected effortlessly to both the brake controller and the truck wiring.

Came with everything I needed. Having videos on site is super helpful. Just need some videos on the newer vehicles to keep everything up to date but overall great site and excellent service.

  • Parts Needed to Install Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller on 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500
It sounds like you have the factory tow package on your 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500. The # RED63RR is a good start since it comes with the Tekonsha Adapter # 331-TPH-017 for the Tow-Pro Elite. The only other thing you will need is the Tekonsha # 3064-P. One end of this wiring harness will connect to the adapter and the other will plug into your factory tow port under the dash. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

  • Brake Controller Installed in 2021 Chevy Silverado Z71 Trail Boss Not Powering Up
Assuming that you've found the correct connector for the # 3064-P brake control harness which is located under the dash to the left of the steering column, I'd wager than you have a fuse missing in the power distribution box in the engine compartment on the passenger side. Check fuse location # 84, and make sure that there's a fuse installed there. If the fuse is missing or blown, you can obtain a replacement from your local auto parts store.

  • Installing Trailer Brake Controller on 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
The Plug-In Wiring Harness # 3064-P that you referenced is the correct brake controller harness for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 and it is actually a brand new product for this generation of GM trucks (it currently only fits the 2019 model Silverado and Sierra 1500s). Based on the picture you attached it looks like you have found the correct port but the cap just hasn't been disconnected from it. This dummy plug can be easily removed by pushing on the release tabs and pulling it off....

  • Does Installing Brake Controller in 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Require Running Wire to Rear of Truck
Hey Patrick, when installing a Prodigy brake controller in your 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 using the install harness part # 3064-P you would only need to run a separate wire to the 7-way if you were replacing an integrated brake controller that Chevy had installed in it from the factory. I had a hard time pulling up a fuse box diagram for your truck but I believe it's position 20 in the fuse box.

The brake controller install harness part # 3064-P is the correct install harness for the Silverado 1500 models but for the 2500/3500 models you'd instead need the part # 3016. Since the two connectors are different I'd assume you have a 1500 model but wanted to mention that just in case. Unlike previous generations of Chevy trucks yours should not require any underhood connections being made. It sounds like your controller has an internal problem based on the display not being fully...
