Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. Older models will have the harness located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Newer models have the harness under the dash, above the gas pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Brake Controller 3050-P Review

Today, we're going to review Part Number 3050-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for Draw Tite and Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers. This part is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Infiniti SUVs, Nissan trucks and SUVs, both starting in 2004. It does fit quite a few different vehicles. What I would recommend is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year, model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. This wiring adapter will help ease your installation of electric brake controller.

On this end right here, this is the custom connector. This will usually plug into a built in brake controller port beneath the dash of your vehicle. The other end right here, the black portion that's flat, this will plug into the back of your electric brake controller. This adapter is compatible with time delay brake controllers by Draw Tite and by proportional brake controllers from Tekonsha Electrical Prodigy, Prodigy P2, Prodigy P3, Primus IQ and the Voyager. Basically, when you go to install it, I've got an example here. Here's Prodigy P3 Brake Controller, we do sell this on our website, separately.

If you look at the back there's the plug in. You take the black plug in, push it in, and you can see that it pops right into place, locks in there. On the other end, you have your white custom connector. In this, you just locate your brake controller port on your vehicle, plug this right into this and you're ready to go. When you want to take out your brake controller, you can just pop off, just like that. Remove your wiring harness and you can remove the brake controller.

That should do it for the review on Part Number 3050-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for the Draw Tite and the Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers. .

Kind of ironic that the controller mfg doesn't have these but etrailer does! Plenty of wire length for routing. I especially like the braiding around the wires. It keeps them together and keeps them from chafing. Connectors match perfectly in form, function and color. The hardest time I had was finding a mounting location for the Controller on my 2018 Nissan Titan. That, and laying on my back in the floor of the truck! LOL The installation instructions on etrailer was a big help in finding the connector on the truck. My connector (on the truck) didn't say it was for the controller but it wasn't attached to anything and the pin-outs and connector matched. I haven't pulled my trailer yet, just installed it a few hours ago but the Controller lights up like it should so everything should be good. Oh, I can't complain about the price either. I think I paid a very fair price to the wiring harness. 571022

I ordered this with the # 90195 Tekonsha P3 Trailer Brake Controller. This adaptor is perfect, no cutting into wires or using wire taps, just plug and play, that's the way I like doing things looks more like factory install. worked out great for me on my Nissan 2017 Titan. way to go 575476

I mounted a P3 with the plug-n 3050-P on my 2011 Nissan Xterra. Took all of 15 minutes, hooked up my trailer and adjusted the Voltage and all complete within 30-45 minutes. My Xterra had been wired with a 7-pin plug and the cable from the P3 to the vehicle was also a straight plug-in. If the vehicle had not been wired, the installation would have taken much longer--perhaps 2-3 hours for someone not used to such work. 188801

Where exactly under the dash does the jumper harness plug in? My dealership parts department said there is a wire hanging down on the 2014 QX80, same as the QX56, but I sure cant see it.

Usually it will be up above the parking brake pedal. It is not always hanging down though. Some times it will be bundled and taped to another harness. Usually folks find them further up from where they initially look.

Thanks for your inquiry. The installation of my brake controller cable adapter for my Prodigy controller took about two minutes and appeared to work as expected (though I haven't yet tried it with the trailer attached). The quality of the cable assembly is very apparent to the trained eye and isvery much appreciated. etrailer.com will continue to be my go-to supplierfor automotive accessory needs. 99243

Just received my new brake controller, haven't had a chance to install yet, but feel very convenient in the products sold by etrailer. This is my second purchase, and I've been very pleased with the selection, ease of ordering, and immediate customer service. The items ordered have come much faster than I expected, with no issues and follow-up provided by George when order was received and shipped seems to show the first rate customer service etrailer provides. Thanks again, 235513

2013 Nissan Xterra

I bought a Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake controller and the associated wiring adapter for my 2013 Nissan Xterra. They both fit perfectly. The instructions were very good and the products were easy to install. My only complaint (and the reason for only 4 stars) is that the controller vibrates in its bracket (and makes a little noise). I'm pretty sure I can stop the noise with a little duct tape. I haven't tried towing my trailer yet, but will update my comment as appropriate. Right now, I certainly recommend these products. 168870

Rapid plug and play assembly. It took me less than 30 minutes to install this harness and a P3 brake controller in my 2012 Frontier Pro4X. Beware that, as many have written, the blue (brake control) and black (12 volt feed) wires are incorrect on the factory truck harness and may need to be cut and spliced in the newly added trailer wiring harness to work correctly. I picked up my new camper the next day, plugged it in and couldn't move. The trailer brakes were locked on, that is until I pulled the cord. I left the dealership without the trailer plugged in to the truck and pulled to the side immediately out of the driveway. 5 minutes at the side of the road with a wire stripper and electrical tape and everything worked PERFECTLY. I had come prepared based on the reviews others had left. Great product and service from etrailer.com. I will be back to outfit my next truck. 426581

I ordered both a trailer brake and the harness adapter for my 2017 Nissan NV 3500. Cost sbout one third of what the dealer wanted. The installation was a total snap. The hardest part was actually just screwing the bracket to the bottom of my dashboard due to space restrictions. Total installation time took about 15 minutes. Great product and company! 454316

I have not yet had the chance to pull a trailer with my new brake controller yet, so I cannot speak to the functionality of the unit. I can, however, speak to the service I received from etrailer.com. The price of this unit was much cheaper than anywhere else I looked. That low price included the wire that allowed me to just plug the controller right into the wiring on my Nissan Titan. Once my order was placed, the package was sitting on my porch two days later. Super service and super fast shipping. I would recommend this company to my friends and family. 289553

I purchased this cord to install my Tekonsha Prodigy 2 brake controller for towing an RV with my 2015 Nissan Frontier. This cable was shipped promptly and arrived on time. It was well packaged and arrived undamaged. The cord plugs easily into the factory socket under the dash of my Nissan Frontier and the Tekonsha plug for the Prodigy brake controller plugged in easily as well. All connections are of good quality. This definitely beats soldering or wire crimping wires for a brake controller. 246927

Worked perfectly on my 2014 Nissan Frontier. Wanted to place my Tekonsha Prodigy P3 in the center console area and not have to drill a very large hole for the harness to feed thru. Merely removed the 4 wires from the end of one connector, fed thru, and reassembled. 126089

Excellent harness! Just like the factory if not exceeds the OEM. I got the P3 brake controller with the Nissan Harness and it just pluged right in and done. Took me 15 minutes just to mount the controller where I wanted it. Otherwise it is a breeze. No need to have it sent to the dealer or garage to have this installed. Do it yourself!!!! The controller comes with everything you need to install it. I highly recomment getting the wire harness. well worth the money and no aggravation in splicing and running wires. 48618

Now after reading at least 50 reviews which were mostly all bad reviews, I was really skeptical to buy from etrailer. There was some really great reviews also. I decided to give them a chance anyway and ordered a drawtite hitch, wiring harness, and a electronic brake controller. Product came in as promised and nothing damaged. Came with all instructions plus the videos from online. Installation was piece of cake. I didn't know that 4way/7way mounting bracket and adapter harness for brake controller(from vehicle to brake controller) didn't come with the order. I ordered them and etrailer gave me free shipping and arrived really fast. Also customer service experience was good. I recommend etrailer to friends and family! 388978

2014 Nissan Xterra

I recently purchased the Tekonsha P3 brake controller for my 2014 Nissan Xterra. This controller is top of the line, so it didn't bother me spending the extra money. However the price is still acceptable. I researched installation instructions and videos prior to receiving the product. You don't have to, it's just my preference. The installation of my controller took me approximately 5 minutes from start to finish and looks very high quality. It's extremely easy, anyone could do it. I'm very pleased with my purchase and experience with etrailer.com. I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you, Keith S. 218816

2008 Nissan Titan

I purchased the 3050-P quick connect wire harness for the ease of installation. My 2008 Nissan Titan has the big tow package and I needed an electric brake system. All I had to do was remove two phillips head screws and the lower dash panel pulls off. Locate the factory brake harness which is taped up at the emergency brake and attach the two together. I routed the harness to the right side of the lower dash because I'm right handed but, there is enough wire to move it to other areas within reason. I also purchased the pod Pro Series 80500 which serves 1 or 2 axel brake systems. I mounted it to my lower dash on the right side within reach and it plugs right into the wire harness. I have not had chance to use the new system yet but, am confident that etrailer has sold me a system that will work for me. 388663

Received my controller today and it mounted easily in my Nissan Frontier with the adapter that plugged right into my wiring harness. When I got it mounted I found that the light did not come on. I went on line to the question and answer section of etrailer.com and found that it had to be hooked to the trailer for the lights to come on. I drove to the storage facility where my RV toy hauler is parked and when I hooked the light cord up the light on the controller lit right up. When I bought the trailer I had to quotes of more than $250 to install a controller and then I looked further on line and found etrailer.com and saved myself about $200 in the hour it took me to install it and hook it up to the trailer. My experience with etrailer.com was great and I will continue to check them for further needs. 412451

2014 Nissan Frontier

I've not had an opportunity to use it, but i can mention an installation tip. Rather than drill holes in my brand new Nissan Frontier, I mounted a 1X6 inch metal strip to the hood release support, using both screw holes. Then secure a 1 &1/2 inch wooden block cut at an angle on the metal strip to the left of the hood release and attach the plastic sleeve for the controller to the wood. The proper angle and length of the wooden block positions the controller so that it is visible, usable, and out of the way, with no holes at all in the new truck. The wooden block can only be seen from underneath. Using the sleave instead of the metal mount that comes with kit enables the controller to easily be removed from the vehicle. The Prodigy 2 reviews speak for itself. 181848

2015 Nissan Xterra

It was easy to use this short wiring harness to connect a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller to the factory installed under-dash connector on our new 2015 Xterra. ALL 2015 Xterras have that under-dash connector, regardless of trim level or model. Previous years may also, just look for the white 6-conductor connector that is taped to a wire bundle under the dash above the right side of the driver footwell (see my photo). The cable was just the right length to make the connection to the brake controller mounted to the plastic panel just up from the hood release tab (see the other photo). Because the brackets supplied with the controller would have placed the controller about an inch from the dash surface, creating a knee-banger situation, I instead use some industrial quality 3M dual-lock fastener (like velcro on steroids) to mount the controller. The controller is securely mounted right up against the dash panel, but is still is removable, if needed. If you also need a rear 7-way connector harness and the relays that all plug into the factory installed connectors, I highly recommend #118266. It provides everything you will need except for the bracket to mount the 7-way connector to the bottom lip of the rear bumper, see #TM76474. 233600

This brake controller is awesome! SIMPLE to install. I recommend buying the OEM wiring harness for your vehicle. The wiring harness that came with my truck (2012 Titan) was not as good as the aftermarket one I purchased with this controller. I can't help but add that ETrailer has been GREAT to work with. I got my product extremely fast. Ordering was simple and the follow up to make sure I was satisfied was a nice touch. Great job! 211327

2009 Toyota Tacoma

What a fantastic product! I ordered the Tekonsha P3 and the plug-in wiring adaptor for my 2009 Nisan Titan w/ tow package. With factory plugs at both ends, the wiring adaptor made the most difficult part of the project finding the right place to mount my new brake controller. The P3's adjustability allowed me to set the display color to one similar to my truck's instrument lighting creating a "factory" appearance to the installation. I haven't used this product for it's intended purpose yet (towing my to-be-delivered toy hauler), but I have used it to tow my parent's new travel trailer. A wide range of adjustability at a fantastic price make this a product I would recommend. Additionally, I was so impressed with ETrailer that I immediately ordered the Teconsha P3 and a complete wiring harness for my parent's 1999 Toyota Tacoma from them as well. 56132

2017 Nissan Armada

I had a little difficulty making sure that this was the correct adapter for my 2017 Nissan Armada, but it is. They are the same connector as 2015. I also had trouble locating the factory pre-wiring and tgere was nothing in my Nissan owners manual that I could find. If you have a 2017 Armada the pre-wiring is on the right side of the steering column, above the accelerator (see pic). From what I understand, on the previous generation vehicles, the pre-wiring was on the left side near the e-brake. As far as the product itself, it works, fit properly, and the wiring is solid. 336331

Two Phillips head screws to remove lower dash panel, Infiniti had the wires labeled with a huge sticker that said "ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER" I cut the tape to bring down the wires and this thing plugged in perfectly!!! Now we are 1800 miles into our trip with this brake controller and it has been OUTSTANDING!!!! AND I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW EASY THE AFTERNARKET WIRING HARNESS WAS TO INSTALL!!! Soooooo Impressed!!!! I can give this prodigy controller AND THE WIRING HARNESS a review of 6 out of 5 stars!! The dealership wanted $320 to install it for me. Works like it was meant to. Only problem was finding the connection on the vehicle. Observed a you tube on a 2015 it showed the connector taped to a harness on the left side behind the plastic panel. • Locating Brake Controller Connector on 2005 Nissan Titan
  • So what you are saying is that the plug physically will not insert into the connector, is that right? I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha, who tells me that you might be looking at the wrong connector under the dash. He said that the connector you are looking for is actually pretty difficult to find. It is located above the emergency brake pedal, and is easier to see and access if the emergency brake is engaged. The wiring harness should have a tag taped to it that says Electric...

  • Location of Brake Controller Install Plug on a 2017 Nissan Armada
  • Since you have a 2017 Armada the pre-wiring is on the right side of the steering column, above the accelerator (see pic). This is where you'll plug the part # 3050-P into for the Prodigy P3 part # 90195.

  • Factory Brake Controller Port Location on 2017 Nissan Titan
  • To install the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller # 5100 that you referenced to your 2017 Nissan Titan, all you will need is the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3050-P if the truck is equipped with the factory 7-Way. One end of the harness will plug into the brake controller itself, while the other end will connect directly to the factory port on your Nissan Titan. The factory brake controller port should be located behind the dash, on the left hand side by the emergency brake pedal....

  • How to Locate the Vehicle Side Electric Brake Control Harness on a 2012 Nissan Titan
  • I have attached a brake controller installation video on a Nissan Titan for you to check out. It shows exactly where the brake controller harness will be located under the dash. The truck in the video is a 2008 model, but it will be the same for your 2012 model. I have also attached a photo of the under side of the dash that shows where the harness will be located. The harness will be located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal....

  • Recommended Brake Controller for 2018 Nissan Titan With Factory 7-Way
  • For your 2018 Nissan Titan I very strongly recommend going with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 over the Curt Spectrum # C51170, which does use Wiring Adapter # C51382 to connect to your 2018 Nissan Titan. The Redarc Tow-Pro # 331-EBRH-ACCV2, which you can install in your '18 Titan with Wiring Adapter # 3050-S, is by far the superior option because it is not only extremely effective and responsive but its manual control knob makes it simple to use; the Tow-Pro can also be mounted...

  • Best Electric Trailer Brake Controller for 2017 Nissan Titan
  • Electric Brake Controllers are not vehicle specific so they'll work on your 2017 Nissan Titan. What is vehicle specific is the wiring adapter. The # 3050-P adapter is confirmed to fit the 2016 Titans but not the 2017 as of yet because it hasn't been tested. There wasn't a lot of changes for 2017 so there's a good chance it will work. Check under your dash for a harness that has a connector shown in the picture I attached. For a brake controller I suggest the Prodigy P3 # 90195. ...

  • Brake Controller Installation on 2015 Nissan Pathfinder with Tow Package
  • If your tow package includes a built-in port beneath your vehicle dash, I recommend installing the brake controller via this Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers for Nissan vehicles, Item # 3050-P. This adapter is confirmed by our fit guide to fit 2015 Nissan Pathfinders. To install your brake controller with this adapter, simply plug one end of the adapter into the brake controller and the other end into the port beneath your vehicle dash. This makes for a much...

  • 2017 Nissan Titan Electric Brake Controller Plug Location
  • For your 2017 Nissan Titan, the models with the factory 7-way will have the harness under the dash, above the gas pedal. This is a different location from the older models that were found near the emergency brake pedal. If you don't have the harness or controller yet, I recommend the wiring harness # 3050-P and the Prodigy P3 Controller # 90195. At your 7-way the brake controller output is found at the 5 o'clock pin location.

  • How to Complete the Tow Package on a 2011 Nissan Xterra
  • Thank you for submitting your pictures. It looks like your 2011 Nissan Xterra was pre-wired for the factory tow package. The only additional item that you will need to complete the tow package is the Tow Ready Nissan Custom Wiring Harness, # 118266. The gray and black plugs on the harness for the 7-way trailer connector will plug into the black and gray connectors that you found behind your rear bumper. The additional jumper harness will install behind the passenger side kick panel to provide...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Wiring Harness for 2013 Nissan Pathfinder
  • The Tekonsha Brake Controller Wiring Adapter, part # 3050-P is indeed compatible with your 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. The adapter is compatible with Tekonsha Brake Controllers like the Prodigy P2, part # 90885 or the P3, part # 90195. The harness will plug into the connector located near the top of the emergency brake pedal. Look for a wiring harness with a white tag on it that that reads Trailer Brake Connection.

  • Hitch & Brake Controller for 2016 Nissan NV 2500
  • We do offer a 2-inch Class IV hitch for your 2016 Nissan NV 2500, the Curt # C14000. This hitch offers no-drill installation. Installation on an NV 3500 is shown in the linked video. You will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. The linked article will help you determine which ball mount you need. Use a hitch ball of the size and weight rating required by your trailer. For a brake controller to activate the trailer's electric brakes I suggest the reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885. If...

  • Installing a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2006 Nissan Frontier
  • If your 2006 Nissan Frontier came with a factory 7-Way and you are using a Tekonsha brake controller like # 90885 all you will need to install it is wiring harness # 3050-P. If the truck did not come with a trailer connector you will need to first install a 4-Way wiring harness, # 118525, and then install a 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that should help you with installation.

  • Options to Install a Brake Controller and Trailer Hitch on a 2013 Infiniti JX35
  • We can provide you with all of the parts that you will need to install a trailer hitch, 7-way trailer connector and a brake controller on your 2013 Infiniti JX35, however none of the items will work with pre-wired circuits or plug-in ports on your vehicle. I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and they have not guarantee that the Plug-In Wiring Adapter, # 3050-P will work on your vehicle. I also spoke with my local Infiniti dealer and they told me that the JX35 does not come with a port under...

  • Recommended Trailer Harness Wiring For 1996 Ford F-250 To Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • There are a few scenarios here. If you have a factory-installed 4-way connector then that makes a difference down the road when installing a brake controller. There may be a brake controller port under the dash on your F-250 and an adapter can be used with a brake controller. The first thing you want to do is find out if your 4-way connector is operational. If it is working, that may save you some money. You can use a circuit tester like part # 40376 for that. Have someone sit in the...

  • How to Wire in a Brake Controller to a 2014 Nissan Titan with Factory 7-Way
  • The fifth wire you have on your 2014 Nissan Titan that you have found in the brake controller wiring is not needed. This is the illumination circuit that isn't used anymore on modern brake controllers. Since your vehicle came with the tow package all you need to install a brake controller like the P2 part # 90885 is the correct harness part # 3050-P. Simply plug in the harness to the brake controller and the other end into the port on your vehicle and you would be good to go. I attached...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness for a 2017 Nissan Titan with No Tow Package
  • Even though your 2017 Nissan Titan doesn't have the tow package it should still have the standard round connector to install trailer wiring behind the rear bumper. Part # N40975 includes the 7-way and 4-way connector that plugs right into your truck, as well as the relays to installto activate the wiring. I've linked a video that shows the install on a 2010 Titan for you. The process is the same. With a trailer that large it's likely to hve brakes so you need a brake controller. ...

  • Brake Controller Harness Location For 2017 Nissan Pathfinder
  • If you have a factory 7-way on your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder, the P2 brake controller # 90885 can easily be installed with the vehicle specific wiring adapter # 3050-P; no other parts are necessary. At this time we don't have a picture available to show the plug in location on the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The # 3050-P that you used on your Frontier is the same that fits the new Pathfinder because they both use the same harness. I have a video linked of the 2013 Pathfinder that shows the...
