Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. Older models will have the harness located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Newer models have the harness under the dash, above the gas pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Brake Controller 3050-P Review

Today, we're going to review Part Number 3050-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for Draw Tite and Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers. This part is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Infiniti SUVs, Nissan trucks and SUVs, both starting in 2004. It does fit quite a few different vehicles. What I would recommend is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year, model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. This wiring adapter will help ease your installation of electric brake controller.

On this end right here, this is the custom connector. This will usually plug into a built in brake controller port beneath the dash of your vehicle. The other end right here, the black portion that's flat, this will plug into the back of your electric brake controller. This adapter is compatible with time delay brake controllers by Draw Tite and by proportional brake controllers from Tekonsha Electrical Prodigy, Prodigy P2, Prodigy P3, Primus IQ and the Voyager. Basically, when you go to install it, I've got an example here. Here's Prodigy P3 Brake Controller, we do sell this on our website, separately.

If you look at the back there's the plug in. You take the black plug in, push it in, and you can see that it pops right into place, locks in there. On the other end, you have your white custom connector. In this, you just locate your brake controller port on your vehicle, plug this right into this and you're ready to go. When you want to take out your brake controller, you can just pop off, just like that. Remove your wiring harness and you can remove the brake controller.

That should do it for the review on Part Number 3050-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for the Draw Tite and the Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers. .

I had a few questions when I called to order. Hally was extremely familiar with the brake box & helpful answering my questions. I watched the video where the etrailer crew installed the same brake box in the Nissan Frontier. It enabled me to put it in my Frontier just as fast. It really is as easy as the video. Thanks etrailer. 694385

I ordered this with the # 90195 Tekonsha P3 Trailer Brake Controller. This adaptor is perfect, no cutting into wires or using wire taps, just plug and play, that's the way I like doing things looks more like factory install. worked out great for me on my Nissan 2017 Titan. way to go 575476

2008 Nissan Titan

I purchased the 3050-P quick connect wire harness for the ease of installation. My 2008 Nissan Titan has the big tow package and I needed an electric brake system. All I had to do was remove two phillips head screws and the lower dash panel pulls off. Locate the factory brake harness which is taped up at the emergency brake and attach the two together. I routed the harness to the right side of the lower dash because I'm right handed but, there is enough wire to move it to other areas within reason. I also purchased the pod Pro Series 80500 which serves 1 or 2 axel brake systems. I mounted it to my lower dash on the right side within reach and it plugs right into the wire harness. I have not had chance to use the new system yet but, am confident that etrailer has sold me a system that will work for me. 388663

The brake control harness I purchased from etrailer was exactly what I need and was very easy to install; especially with their product video showing step-by-step installation process. The harness works great with my Tekonsha Primus IQ brake control for my 2011 Nissan Frontier. Great product, great process and delivery came in less than a week. 99941

Very easy to install, less than 10 minutes. Adjustable break settings will make pulling my trailer much safer. If it's the heavier utility tractor or lighter yard waste or furniture. 422647

2018 Nissan Titan

Kind of ironic that the controller mfg doesn't have these but etrailer does! Plenty of wire length for routing. I especially like the braiding around the wires. It keeps them together and keeps them from chafing. Connectors match perfectly in form, function and color. The hardest time I had was finding a mounting location for the Controller on my 2018 Nissan Titan. That, and laying on my back in the floor of the truck! LOL The installation instructions on etrailer was a big help in finding the connector on the truck. My connector (on the truck) didn't say it was for the controller but it wasn't attached to anything and the pin-outs and connector matched. I haven't pulled my trailer yet, just installed it a few hours ago but the Controller lights up like it should so everything should be good. Oh, I can't complain about the price either. I think I paid a very fair price to the wiring harness. 571022

2012 Nissan Frontier

Rapid plug and play assembly. It took me less than 30 minutes to install this harness and a P3 brake controller in my 2012 Frontier Pro4X. Beware that, as many have written, the blue (brake control) and black (12 volt feed) wires are incorrect on the factory truck harness and may need to be cut and spliced in the newly added trailer wiring harness to work correctly. I picked up my new camper the next day, plugged it in and couldn't move. The trailer brakes were locked on, that is until I pulled the cord. I left the dealership without the trailer plugged in to the truck and pulled to the side immediately out of the driveway. 5 minutes at the side of the road with a wire stripper and electrical tape and everything worked PERFECTLY. I had come prepared based on the reviews others had left. Great product and service from etrailer.com. I will be back to outfit my next truck. 426581

2015 Nissan Xterra

It was easy to use this short wiring harness to connect a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller to the factory installed under-dash connector on our new 2015 Xterra. ALL 2015 Xterras have that under-dash connector, regardless of trim level or model. Previous years may also, just look for the white 6-conductor connector that is taped to a wire bundle under the dash above the right side of the driver footwell (see my photo). The cable was just the right length to make the connection to the brake controller mounted to the plastic panel just up from the hood release tab (see the other photo). Because the brackets supplied with the controller would have placed the controller about an inch from the dash surface, creating a knee-banger situation, I instead use some industrial quality 3M dual-lock fastener (like velcro on steroids) to mount the controller. The controller is securely mounted right up against the dash panel, but is still is removable, if needed. If you also need a rear 7-way connector harness and the relays that all plug into the factory installed connectors, I highly recommend #118266. It provides everything you will need except for the bracket to mount the 7-way connector to the bottom lip of the rear bumper, see #TM76474. 233600

2017 Nissan Armada

I had a little difficulty making sure that this was the correct adapter for my 2017 Nissan Armada, but it is. They are the same connector as 2015. I also had trouble locating the factory pre-wiring and tgere was nothing in my Nissan owners manual that I could find. If you have a 2017 Armada the pre-wiring is on the right side of the steering column, above the accelerator (see pic). From what I understand, on the previous generation vehicles, the pre-wiring was on the left side near the e-brake. As far as the product itself, it works, fit properly, and the wiring is solid. 336331

Great product and easy to use. Just plugs into existing OEM wiring harness. This is an excellent product. It was simple to install and has worked flawlessly. I have used it for almost a year now, towing over 10,000 miles through 21 states. This has been a priceless tool as we have gone through the Boston Mountains, the Appalachians, the Rockies, the Cascades, and most recently the Pacific Coastal Range. I love the ability to reach down and manually give your trailer brakes some extra grab when in times of long steep declines. We're using this in a 2018 Nissan NV3500 towing a 31' Airstream travel trailer. Would highly recommend and would buy again. 707521

  • For your 2018 Nissan Titan I very strongly recommend going with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 over the Curt Spectrum # C51170, which does use Wiring Adapter # C51382 to connect to your 2018 Nissan Titan. The Redarc Tow-Pro # 331-EBRH-ACCV2, which you can install in your '18 Titan with Wiring Adapter # 3050-S, is by far the superior option because it is not only extremely effective and responsive but its manual control knob makes it simple to use; the Tow-Pro can also be mounted...

I highly recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195, which is a proportional controller, meaning it acts immediately as you use your Frontier's brakes. The P3 has customizable settings, safeguards to prevent battery drain and shorts, as well as an LCD display. It will plug right into the plug you mentioned just by using adapter # 3050-P. In order to choose the best weight...

  • If you have a factory 7-way on your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder, the P2 brake controller # 90885 can easily be installed with the vehicle specific wiring adapter # 3050-P; no other parts are necessary. At this time we don't have a picture available to show the plug in location on the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The # 3050-P that you used on your Frontier is the same that fits the new Pathfinder because they both use the same harness. I have a video linked of the 2013 Pathfinder that shows the...

  • Where is the Brake Controller Plug on a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL
  • The trailer brake controller plug on your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL will be located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. This location is also revealed in the attached install video. If you are looking for a brake controller and plug-in harness then I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3050-P. The P3...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Connection Port Location in 2017 Infiniti QX80
  • Your Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 will install in your 2017 Infiniti QX80 using the same wiring adapter part # 3050-P that was used in your 2014 model year vehicle. The connection port should be in the same general location as in the other vehicle but it will usually be tucked behind and/or taped to other wiring under the dash. It can be tough to spot this at first glance. The port location is typically behind the dash kick plate which is above and to the right of the...

See install video. Now for an install harness for the brake controller all you need is the part # 3050-P. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is...

  • To add a trailer brake controller and the appropriate wiring adapter to your 2014 Nissan Frontier you will need the brake controller itself, such as the Power Trac # 39523 along with the wiring adapter # 3050-P. If you have a 7-way no other parts are needed, but if you do not you will also need 7-way/relay kit # 118266. You can refer to the linked video for illustration of the controller install process. • If the 7-way trailer connector on the rear of your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder was installed from the factory then there is a brake controller adapter port already present. • Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 Showing Constant 12V Power on Blue wire
  • If you are getting 12V of constant power on your brake controller output wire then you need to cut the blue wire from your Voyager about 6" away from the controller and see if it still has constant 12V power. If it does then there is an issue with the wiring to the controller or your Adapter # 3050-P (if you have the factory tow package). If there isn't constant 12V power then there is an issue with the wire from your brake controller to your 7-Way. The only time that your brake controller...

  • Should I Get a Proportional or Time-Delayed Brake Controller
  • The best brake controller option to go with is one that activates the brakes proportionally instead of time delayed. A proportional brake controller will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as the tow vehicle brakes whereas a time delayed brake controller will activate the brakes at a predetermined time and intensity once the brake pedal is pressed in the tow vehicle. This can cause uneven wear of the brakes and tires. Proportional brake controllers...
