- Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - Toyota

Streamline the installation of your trailer brake controller with this custom adapter. Simply connect the wires of the harness to your brake controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your 's dash.

Features:

  • Pigtail wiring adapter eases installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • Connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
  • Wire end connects to the wires on your brake controller with the included butt connectors
    • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the 5-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To hook this adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the 4 wires of the harness - ground, power, brake switch, and brake power - to the corresponding wires on the brake controller. If your brake controller came with a plug built into its wiring harness, you will have to cut off the plug and connect to the wires themselves.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Brake Controller 3040-S Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Tekonsha Custom Wire and Adapter for trailer brake controllers. This product is going to fit certain years of models of the Toyota 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tundra, and Tacoma. The pigtail wire and adapter is simply going to ease the installation of your electric trailer brake controller. The wiring's going to measure about 30 inches long. The connector end is going to plug into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle, and then the wire end is going to connect to the wires of your brake controller with the included butt connectors. Butt connectors are very easy to use. They're going to give you two different- sized connectors to accommodate the different-sized wiring.

You place the wire in one end, place another wire in the other, crimp the middle down, and that's going to complete the connection between the two wires. The unit is compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Trailer-Mate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha. It's going to feature a nice protective mesh covering the wires, that's going to keep them close together and bundled up. That's going to prevent loose wires from hanging around your feet. The adapter end is going to plug into the 5-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. That connector's going to be located under the dash to the left of the steering column, and it's probably going to be taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

The connectors are going to match up perfectly. They're going to snap into one another, and they're going to create a nice, tight, secure connection. To hook the adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the four wires of the harness to the corresponding wires of the brake controller. This is going to provide functions for ground power brake switch from brake power. If your brake controller came with the plug built into its wiring harness, all you have to do is cut the plug off, expose the wire ends, and connect them together using the included connectors. It's going to come with some detailed instructions; it's going to walk you through the entire process step by step.

That's going to do it for our review of the Tekonsha Custom Wiring and Adapter for trailer brake controllers.

One of the few brake controllers that allows you to "remote mount" the control unit. Allows for a super clean install that looks like its from the factory rather than having to bolt an obnoxious brick somewhere on your dash only to smash your knee into it anytime you get in your truck. And the actual brake control woks great too! The user interface/control knob is easy to use and provides a simple way making adjustments to the controller. I'm able to easily test the trailer brakes with the push of a button and set the brakes how I want them to function. Installed on a 2012 toyota tacoma. 703766

I had great anticipation for the delivery and going over the install instructions it was simple install. My biggest worry was trying to make it look clean, 2012 tundra already had tow package so I purchased the specific wire pigtail, so after removing lower dash removing pop out in dash- thanks Toyota- a little work with a Dremel tool for the redarc brake controller in dash install looks EXCELLENT, total install time for me was about 2 hours 672287

I ordered these items online with the help of etrailer.com tech support and got the right parts the first time for my mechanic to install on a 2003 Sequoia Limited 2WD. Item 3040-S was installed in conjunction with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake and worked perfectly, and out of the way. With the included bracket i’m able to disconnect and remove the controller from the hot vehicle. 665356

If you have a Tundra and need to install a brake controller this is a must. It plugs directly into your factory plug underneath the kick panel so you don’t have to run any wires to the rear of the truck 655311

  • Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring Harness for 2012 Toyota Tundra Console
  • The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Toyota and Lexus # 3040-P is a great option for Tekonsha brake controller wiring in the traditional location. I recommend the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - Toyota # 3040-S along with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 which...

  • Since you will be pulling your trailer full time with your 2013 Toyota Tundra you are definitely going to want something that is effective, easy-to-use and doesn't take up space in your truck's cab. The perfect brake controller for you and the one I strongly recommend is the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 because it meets all of the aforementioned criteria. • We don't have a brake controller that will fit the specific dimensions you gave, but I do have some options you should consider for small brake controllers. My favorite for a small dash is the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # 331-EBRH-ACCV2. This is a small in dash or in console option for a clean look. You can use the harness # 3040-S. To connect this to your 4Runner you just need the adapter # 3040-S. If you live in California you also need the Adapter # 30235-P. • What is the Difference Between Redarc Brake Controllers?
  • The only difference between parts # 331-EBRH-ACCV2,3040-S and # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 is that the former has wiring adapter # 3040-S included, which you would use if your 2012 Toyota Tacoma Sport has a factory 7-way installed. Without it you would need to install a 4-way connector # 118496 and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you all the needed components to add a brake controller to your Tacoma. Does the connector provided by the manufacturer look like the Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter, part # 3040-S. • I spoke with my contact at Tuson regarding the DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller # 335DL-100 and your 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The potential issue with regards to fitment for this controller on trucks prior to 2008 is that not all of them are equipped with the factory 16-pin OBD-II port under the dash that this hooks up to. • If your 2013 Toyota Tacoma came with a factory brake controller port then the rest of the wires you need to hook up to the 7-way (12 volt power and brake output) should already be ran to the rear of the vehicle, under the bumper and near the spare tire. However, we have not yet had the chance to install a 7-way on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma with this same setup so I would not have any exact locations to look for these wires.
