  • Vehicle Specific

Streamline the installation of your trailer brake controller with this custom adapter. Simply connect the wires of the harness to your brake controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your vehicle's dash.

Features:

  • Pigtail wiring adapter eases installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • Connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
  • Wire end connects to the wires on your brake controller with the included butt connectors
    • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the 5-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To hook this adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the 4 wires of the harness - ground, power, brake switch, and brake power - to the corresponding wires on the brake controller. If your brake controller came with a plug built into its wiring harness, you will have to cut off the plug and connect to the wires themselves.

I wanted to follow up and thank you for your help! I was able to install the Redarc brake controller with no problem! Thanks for your assistance and recommendations. One note...There are not a lot of late model Land Cruisers on the road. Toyota only sells about 3-4,000 a year so finding videos and guides for installation is a bit of a challenge. I found some FAQ's on etrailer.com but the information seemed inaccurate or at least not very helpful. I know the LC comes with a two package and is prewired but it takes some doing to locate it. I remember directions and I found some install help on another site and that helped. In any event, I appreciate your help. I have attached a photo of the installed Redarc!

Great product, had it in the truck for almost a year now. Plug and play, with no splicing into the Tundra harness. As shown in photo, a bit of careful drilling and dremelling, I used one of the blank switch locations to locate the controller knob and be able to show the indicator light.

My dealings with etrailer have been a very positive experience. It started with a direct conversation with one of etrailer's sales reps over the phone. He was knowledgeable and respectful. I ordered the product per his recommendation. When the product arrived, I was able to simply plug it into the existing wire harness in my 2003 4x4 Tundra. I followed the instructions on how to install the unit and adjust it to the proper settings without a problem. I have an Iron Bull 5'x10' dump trailer I use all the time and the bake control I purchased from etrailer has actually exceeded my expectations. I'm up and down the Feather River Canyon weekly and I can easily adjust the control unit using the thumb wheel to address the different load weights I happen to be pulling. For the record I so appreciate the fact etrailer allowed me to actually use the product for a year before asking for my feedback. That's how it should be if the seller (provider) wants valid and reliable feedback. Great job etrailer.

Did not include the adapter for the Redarc controller so required ordering that after delivery. Harness fit the Tundra but was really a generic Toyota harness. Slight disappointment but still made for a clean installation.

by:

Yes, it's just a wiring harness, but this one is built exceptionally well and is easy to crimp onto thanks to the fact that the wires at the end have already been stripped.

Product arrived on time. Made the installation on my ‘14 Tundra 1794 super easy. Crimped the connectors, installed the Red Arc Tow Pro Elite on the left side by the e-brake pedal. Mounted the dial on the same side under my truck be light switch. Very simple installation thanks to this harness.

One of the few brake controllers that allows you to "remote mount" the control unit. Allows for a super clean install that looks like its from the factory rather than having to bolt an obnoxious brick somewhere on your dash only to smash your knee into it anytime you get in your truck. And the actual brake control woks great too! The user interface/control knob is easy to use and provides a simple way making adjustments to the controller. I'm able to easily test the trailer brakes with the push of a button and set the brakes how I want them to function. Installed on a 2012 toyota tacoma.

2012 Toyota Tundra

I had great anticipation for the delivery and going over the install instructions it was simple install. My biggest worry was trying to make it look clean, 2012 tundra already had tow package so I purchased the specific wire pigtail, so after removing lower dash removing pop out in dash- thanks Toyota- a little work with a Dremel tool for the redarc brake controller in dash install looks EXCELLENT, total install time for me was about 2 hours

I ordered these items online with the help of etrailer.com tech support and got the right parts the first time for my mechanic to install on a 2003 Sequoia Limited 2WD. Item 3040-S was installed in conjunction with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake and worked perfectly, and out of the way. With the included bracket i’m able to disconnect and remove the controller from the hot vehicle.

If you have a Tundra and need to install a brake controller this is a must. It plugs directly into your factory plug underneath the kick panel so you don’t have to run any wires to the rear of the truck

We use our Redarc tow pro setup every time we take our offroad trailer camping. The trailer is not heavy but when we are offroad and navigating technical trails it is so nice to have a little more control of the trailer and how it handles. Having the dial makes it so easy to adjust as we are traversing a trail and the 3 axis controller always performs properly even on off camber situations

I spoke with my contact at Tuson regarding the DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller # 335DL-100 and your 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The potential issue with regards to fitment for this controller on trucks prior to 2008 is that not all of them are equipped with the factory 16-pin OBD-II port under the dash that this hooks up to.
