Video Transcript for Tekonsha Breakaway Switch Cable and Nylon Pin Replacement Review

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this Breakaway Cable replacement for your Breakaway Switch. This one's from Tekonsha. Let's check it out. 49 inches long. It's gonna have a coating over the braided steel.

What's really important about that is to check the ones that are on your trailer right now to make sure that coating's still on there, 'cause if that coating starts to come off, these can rust really easily, and then they can fail. So they might break, instead of actually pulling this tab out to hit the brakes on the trailer. Looking at the end here, this is gonna be a universal key that fits a lot of different breakaway switches. So just in case you don't have the Tekonsha, it'll still fit on some other ones too. Now, one issue with this style of breakaway cable is that it's one of the longer ones.

So sometimes you might have to loop up some of the extra cable. Or if it's not pulled really tight, it's gonna droop down a little bit, and that can get caught on things. There is other options from Fastway. They have one that has a coil design, so if you plug this in on this, and then hold it out there, connecting this part to the vehicle, you'd see that it's up and tight towards the top of the trailer, less likely to drag on the ground and be caught on anything. Overall, definitely a good idea to go out and check your trailer to make sure you don't have any rust spots in your breakaway cable.

Easy to replace, so there's no excuse not to do it. And you wanna make sure that when this pin's pulled, the brakes are activated on a trailer, because it's an emergency. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helped.

The service from this company has been absolutely the best on every order. Very personable for an online experience. That’s a nice touch too. Makes me wish I had more trailer stuff to buy from them.

Beautifully. Just installed in a friend’s truck. He’s loving it as much as I did.

The emergency brake has not been needed over the last year. The pin has securely remained in place.

The emergency brake still has not been needed. The pin has securely remained in place.

I contacted tech support (Kyle) at etrailer.com to ensure I was ordering the correct replacement break away cable assy for my horse trailer. Tech rep Kyle asked some clarifying questions and told me which part I needed. The break away cable was priced competitively, works perfectly and arrived on schedule. My trailer is now safe again. Thanks for the great help!

This particular nylon pin didn't fit the switch I had on my PJ trailer. The OEM breakaway is part of a Defender system braking system. Somehow the top part of that plastic pin where the breakaway cable attaches had broken off and all I needed was a replacement pin and cable. But as my photo depicts, all pins aren't made the same.

by:

This product was inexpensive and arrived in a short amount of time. I was informed from my 4-star trailer manufacture this breakaway cable and switch would work. However, my trailer is only 4 years old but an updated size had ocurred. I ended up having to buy a new device for the 2010 to work.

by:

Product was delivered two days early. Matched description as noted. Be sure the key matches the controller you are ordering for.

Still going strong after one year. Trailer came loose and pin popped and initiated brakes as intended

by:

Exactly what I needed and couldn’t previously find! Super fast delivery! Now I have a breakaway pin for each of my trailers instead of having to move the only one I had from trailer to trailer. Highly recommend etrailer for all your trailer needs.

by:

I ordered two of the Tekonsha brake release cables. They were shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I would be happy to deal with etrailer again.

by:

Right part for the job. Easy to order, quickly delivered, and fit our trailer brake systems perfectly.

by:

It doesn't really fit with the original Esco brand but I am going to cut the wires and install a whole new assembly. It will work with what you sent to me It seems that the Esco nylon tip has two rails. One at the top and one at the bottom. The boat and trailer I have are a 2009 model and probably doesn't fit with what is available now. Thank you very much for your help and fast shipping and delivery. Great customer service. I will definitely call for any future needs I have!

by:

I was afraid I was going to need to buy a new emergency braking pin and cable. thanks to etrailer, that won't be necessary. kudos!

by:

Part was exactly what I needed. Ordering was easy and checkout was easy from website. Only thing that hindered it was I paid extra for Priority Mail delivery. Delivery date was scheduled for April 12 and it came April 16. No fault of etrailer, but will consider shipping on next order. Overall great exchange with etrailer.com

by:

This is exactly the electric brake cable and pin I needed for my horse trailer. Great price and received super quickly.

by:

Quality part good service

by:

I am pleased either the trailer hitch I purchased from you. It is working well with no problems.

by:

Perfect fit. Only had to look one place for it. etrailer.com is my trailer parts source.

by:

this replacement part fits perfectly in the switch that came with the trailer

Jim I need some help. How do you replace just the cable with nylon pin? I noticed that you commented that this replacement part fits perfect. Do you pull out the cable and nylon pin and just push in the new replacement? thank you ahead of time.vrJose

I just removed the old pin that had fallen out of the switch and put the new pin into the existing switch that came with the trailer

by:

.This is a replacement.my old one was sticking inside the switch and the O-ring was missing.didn't use the cable since I have one from roadmaster that I use on it.

by:

Even though the order was not in stock for a month they stayed on top of it and got to me when they can good job

by:

This is probably a good product. But the pin is too small for my break assembly. I could have returned it but shipping would be more costlier than the product itself. I kept the old pin and will reuse this cable to make a new cable switch assembly.

by:

Great company to deal with. Part was correct, good updates on order process for time ordered to time arrived here. Used them in past and have had no complaints. Thanks etrailer

by:

These were exactly what we were looking for and at a great price and quick shipping.

by:

This replaced one that I broke or that just broke from use and it is doing the job it was meant to do for the past year with no issues at all so I guess I'd have to say that it was a good purchase and I'm still happy with it.

by:

The replacement cable and nylon pin worked great and was fast shipping

by:

etrialer.com is fast and they have the right stuff to keep my construction trailer on the road and making me money. I can't Thank You enough.

  • Replacement Breakaway Pin and Cable
Thanks for the photo! Based on that I can tell you that you were right on - the Replacement Cable and Pin Assembly # 3802350 will work for you as this is the same pin style as yours. I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well.

  • Replacement Breakaway Pin Recommendation for Wesbar Breakaway Kit
While the pins between the Bright Way and the Wesbar are pretty similar they are different enough to make a difference. I recommend you replace the switch with the universal switch by Bright Way Group # 3802348.

  • Easy Solution for Needing Replacement Breakaway Pin for Unknown Breakaway System
I have a much easier solution for you but it's really hard to pick out an exact replacement plunger for a breakaway setup unless you happen to know the exact brand of the breakaway system. But since the entire switch assemblies are completely universal you can just replace the switch and plunger like with # 3802348 and you'll be good to go.

  • Replacement Breakaway Pin for Landa ECOS Trailer
If you can provide me with the brand and model of the breakaway system that is used on your Landa ECOS Trailer then I can go about seeing if we have a replacement breakaway pin for you. However, the breakaway pins are not all universal. Unfortunately, I don't have any information as to what the brand and model is for your trailer. Therefore, the only option we can currently offer you is a new switch and pin for the Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 3802348 for two wire systems or the Hopkins...

  • Easy Solution for Lost Breakaway Pin and Cable on Trailer Setup
The breakaway cables aren't pin box specific. You would need to determine what brand breakaway kit you have to determine what cable would be an exact replacement. Or an easier solution is to just replace the switch and cable with the part # N65113. The cables and pins are specific to the switch they fit, but the switches themselves are universal and all function the same. You basically would just wire the # N65113 in place of your old one and it would work well.

  • Replacement Breakaway Cable for 2016 R-Pod 180
Trailer breakaway kits are not trailer-specific but a replacement part like the pin and cable does need to match your current breakaway setup. We have such items for Hopkins, Tekonsha, Curt and others and you'll see them all on the linked page. Just match the pin and cable by brand. Here are popular examples of this replacement part: Hopkins # HM20051 Tekonsha # 2010-A Bright Way # 3802350 Curt # C52020 You can also just replace the entire switch with # 3802348 if you prefer. • Breakaway Switch Pin is Stuck in the Switch
I think you mean breakaway system. A brake controller would be in the cab of the vehicle and not on the trailer. You might need a new switch if you can't get the pin out. It would not be a bad idea to replace it anyway. They are not expensive and you will have the peace of mind of having a new switch. A switch, such as # HM20010, # 3802348, or # HM20060, basically just completes a circuit once the pin is pulled allowing power to go from the breakaway battery to the trailer brakes. So...

  • Replacement Breakaway Pin for Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System
The replacement breakaway pin for the invisBrake # RM-8700 is actually # RM-200200-20, so this is the one you need. I do not recommend using a different pin, like # 3802350 (replacement cable and pin for Bright Way # 3802308 Breakaway Switch) because of subtle differences amongst pins.
